Thanks again for reading.
Chapter One Hundred and Ten
Is This Really a Good Idea?
Matt and Gabby were finally outside, after being delayed by their children; the children that were far too adorable for them to not say goodbye to them, again. But while they were saying goodbye, something that he most definitely didn't like happened; and that would be that his brother-in-law grabbed his keys, the keys to his new Tesla Model X. And just where did Matt find his brother-in-law sitting? Well, that would be in the driver's seat. Taking a breath as he saw that, Matt shook his head; meanwhile, Gabby turned to look at Matt. "Matt, just let him drive. We both know that he's been desperate to drive the car." Matt sighed as he heard Gabby say that, as he knew that was the case; but he just couldn't do it, because of his anxiety. Yes, Matt has Anxiety; and it's been something that he's been dealing with much more of late, ever since he was officially diagnosed with PTSD (which was the only way that Matt could get Andy). And his anxiety was the exact reason why Matt wasn't going to let Antonio drive, as he needs to do it right now…for Gabby.
Stepping close to Gabby as he put his hand on Gabby's side, Matt took a breath as he looked at the woman he loves; he then looked down at Gabby and sighed. "I can't Gabby, I can't let him drive." Gabby was confused as she heard Matt say that, before looking up at him. "Why not baby? Why can't you let him drive?" Putting his hand on Gabby's stomach, Matt just looked down and took a breath; because that was the reason, their baby. Because there was something that Matt hasn't been able to say much, and that's the fact that he's been having more anxiety that this will happen to them again; that she'll have to give birth prematurely again, to their baby girl. And that most definitely isn't something that he wants, as it's too soon for her to give birth; and that means that their daughter won't survive. Rather, their daughter will die immediately. Taking a breath as he looked at the woman he loves, Matt spoke to her. "Gabby, I need you to let me explain." However, Gabby didn't need him to explain. Him putting his hand on her stomach was enough.
It made her understand that this wasn't just something related to his ego, or the fact that the Tesla Model X is his car; rather, it's related to the fact that she's pregnant right now. And it's also related to the fact that Alex just gave birth prematurely, and it reminds him so much of the fact that she also gave birth prematurely; and that was to their twins, Matteo, and Noah. And she also knew (better than anybody) that it was part of his PTSD, which was why Gabby was going to stand by her man; and she's going to make sure that Antonio lets Matt drive. "Do you want me to talk to him? Or are you going to talk to him?" Matt took a breath, before walking over to the car with Gabby. "Can you talk to him? I'll get Andy to go to the washroom before we leave, that way we don't mess up the car." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, since that was a good idea; wrapping her arm around his back, Gabby smiled as she got close to the man she loves (who also wrapped his arm around her back this morning). And god, it was a really nice feeling.
But it will never be as good as the feeling of his lips on hers, as that's exactly what she's getting right now. Bending down to kiss his beautiful wife, Matt smiled as he took things nice and slow with her. "I'll make sure that Andy goes, then we can leave. Just take it easy with your brother okay?" Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, well aware that they need to take it easy. "I promise baby." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, before looking at Andy. "C'mon Andy, let's go to the washroom." Barking, Andy agreed with Matt before walking away; at the same time, Gabby took a breath while walking over to her brother. That way, they can talk and she can make sure that he knows that he's not driving. "What was all that whispering about?" Gabby shook her head. "It was about how Matt doesn't want you to drive." Antonio was shocked as he heard his sister say that and was also quite offended. "Seriously? Does he not trust me to not crash his car? It was once in Hawaii." Gabby sighed, as she knew that this was going to happen.
She's known her brother her entire life after all, because this is something that she's dealt with in the past; but right now, she's not going to deal with it again. Taking a breath, Gabby turned her head to look at her loving husband; after which, she turned her head and turned her attention back to the conversation that she was in the midst of having with her brother. "It's related to what's going on right now." Antonio was confused when he heard Gabby say that, as he didn't understand what Alex giving birth prematurely had to do with him not driving the Tesla. "Okay, you're really going to have to explain that to me; because if that's Matt's excuse to drive, then…" Gabby shook her head as she heard Antonio say that, as that isn't an excuse. "It's not an excuse Antonio, it's a real reason. Antonio, he's been having a bit more PTSD recently." Antonio was confused. "Why? Wait, is it the anniversary of something?" Gabby sighed. "No, it's not an anniversary; it's a situation that he's dealing with right now, because it's a bit hard." Antonio sighed.
"Okay, more specifics please." Gabby just put her hands on her stomach, sighing. "Antonio, how can you not see it? How Matt's been different of late? Ever since Alex gave birth?" Antonio then thought about what his sister just said, before turning his head to look at Matt; and that was when it hit him, he was thinking about when Gabby gave birth to the twins prematurely…because of him. "Oh god." Gabby sighed. "Antonio, I hate to say this but…he still deals with that every day, and he always worries about it; and the effect that it could have on the boys in the future, because their pediatrician still can't tell us what they might have to deal with in the future when it comes to mental health. And now that he has PTSD, he's been really interested in making sure that we monitor their mental health. And if we notice something that happens, then we don't want anything else to happen." Antonio took a breath as he heard his sister say that, as that most definitely is not something that he wishes on anybody, especially his sister, and nephews.
"And this is actually something that he's been dealing with during my entire pregnancy this time around." Confused once again, Antonio looked at his sister to ask her what she meant by that statement. "Okay, what are you talking about there Gabby? Because that most definitely is something that you need to explain to me too." Gabby sighed. "Antonio, this pregnancy is already a high-risk pregnancy, due to the fact that it happened so shortly after we had the boys. And I tried to keep him away from the list of possibilities that comes with getting pregnant so soon after giving birth, Matt ended up reading the list; the list that you know about." Antonio took a breath. "Oh god." Gabby nodded. "And now, he has that list in his head constantly. The possibility of low birth weight, mental health problems, learning disabilities, physical disabilities…" Antonio then put his hand up, well aware of all of those risks. "Okay, I know that list Gabby." Gabby agreed with Antonio as he said that, before smiling as she went ahead and hugged her brother. "In the future."
Antonio agreed with Gabby when she said that, before smiling as he kissed the top of her head. "Listen, I'm going to go give Matt the keys and make sure that he knows that I understand; that way, we can just get out of here." Gabby agreed with her brother when he said that. "Sit on my side, I'll make sure that I give you enough leg room." Antonio agreed with Gabby as she said that, before going to walk away to talk to his brother-in-law; at the same time, Gabby watched as he did that. Just taking a breath as she watched her brother walk away so that he can give Matt the keys. And the truth is, Gabby's glad that he's going to let him drive; and that's due to the fact that she doesn't want Matt to stress out right now, especially when she already knows what he's scared to even go to the hospital right now. And that's actually why Gabby already asked her mom to take care of the boys again tonight, as she had this feeling; she just knew in her heart, that this visit was going to be something hard on her loving husband. And he needed to do this.
He needed to drive them to the hospital, and he needs to just feel safe as they drive.
Antonio's POV:
As I walked up to my brother-in-law to give him the keys, I took a breath due to the fact that I knew that he had a lot on his mind right now; and that's not something that I want him to deal with, and that's why I'm going to just let him drive (which is something he needs to do). Taking a breath as I walked up to him, I smiled when I saw that he was also playing with Andy. "Okay Andy, remember to calm down because we're getting in a car; and that means that you can't be too excited in there." I just laughed a bit when I heard Matt say that, as that most definitely isn't something that he can really control. "I hate to tell you this Matt, but I don't think that you can really control that." Turning to look at me, Matt seemed to be a bit confused. "You need to talk to me?" I sighed when Matt asked me that, before going to put the keys out. Seeing them, Matt smiled when he saw that I was giving him the kids. "Thank you." He then went to grab the keys from me, before going to just put them in his pocket; however, I still needed to talk to him before I walked away.
"Listen, before we leave to go to the hospital; I just want to talk to you about something, if that's okay?" Turning to look at me. "Did Gabby already approve of this? Or do I need to…" I agreed with Matt. "She knows that we're going to talk for a bit, and she's already in the car; sitting in the front seat, right next to you." Matt smiled when I said that. "Also known as, right where she belongs." I agreed with Matt when he said that, before looking at him. "Listen, I want to talk to you quick okay? I want to talk to you about what Gabby told me, and why I now understand why you need to drive us to the hospital." Matt took a breath when I said that, probably well aware of the fact that Gabby spoke to me. "Gabby?" I nodded. "Yeah. Matt, I didn't even think about all of that. I am so sorry that I even objected." Matt sighed as he looked at me. "I've just been dealing with a lot, and I don't like to share that." I was confused when I said that. "What do you mean by that?" Matt sighed as I asked him that. "I feel a bit selfish when I feel this way."
Looking at Matt, I was really confused. "Okay, why exactly are you feeling selfish?" Turning to face me, Matt sighed. "Because this is something that should be causing Jay to have PTSD, not me. Why am I being affected by this? When it's not my problem to deal with. This is Jay's problem to deal with." I just looked at him when he said that, taking a breath. "Hey, take a breath and just relax man. Listen to me okay?" Matt agreed with me as I said that, well aware that he needed to listen. "We all know that PTSD is unpredictable, and you need to deal with it. Matt, I have training on how to deal with PTSD; and I know how to deal with it." Matt was confused when I said that. "You're trained on PTSD?" I nodded. "Matt, I'm a cop. I need to know how to talk to witnesses, and victims with PTSD." Matt thought about it and agreed with me. "Right." I just snickered a bit when Matt say that, before looking at him. "Matt, I promise; I understand why you need to drive." Matt sighed as he looked at me, before taking a breath. "It's just the risk that we're taking."
I nodded when Matt said that. "The low-birth-weight stuff?" Matt nodded. "Listen, can you promise that you don't tell Gabby this?" I nodded. "Of course." Matt sighed. "Listen, I am not going to say that I don't want this; because I do, especially since it's a girl." I agreed with Matt when he said that, seeing the pure joy that was in his eyes. "And I am so happy that's the case, but that means that I am doing everything I can to make sure that I do whatever I can to make sure that I keep Gabby safe; especially since this is the only pregnancy where I have been here from the start. I am doing what a husband has to do, and that's protect his wife; and I am scared every single day that she's going to give birth prematurely, because I am scared of having to go through that again. And that's only been the case ever since we learned that we were having a daughter." I agreed with him when he said that, well aware that was the case. I then took a breath and thought about something. "Listen, I hate to even ask this Matt. But is this a good idea?"
Taking a breath, I then continued. "Do you really think it's a good idea for us to go to the hospital, when this is what you're scared of?" Matt sighed when I asked him that, clearly well aware of the fact that this might be hard. I then saw him start to get worried, which is always something that I hate to see in him. That's when I proceeded to get close to him, and just hugged him. Wrapping his arms around me, Matt sighed. "I need to do this; I need to see them this small, I need to do it just in case this is a…" I shook my head when I heard Matt say that, before hugging him; after which, I felt Matt tear up and just got scared. I could tell that was the case, and that he wasn't okay; so much so, that he was starting to get embarrassed….and then ran away so that he could go be alone. "Matt…" Watching as he ran away, I could just tell that my brother-in-law was not okay. That's when I turned to look at the Tesla, looking at my sister; getting out shortly afterwards, Gabby looked at me and was clearly furious…as she thought that I did something.
Walking up to her brother after her husband ran inside (and Andy ran in behind him), Gabby was furious; she was furious, because she thought that Antonio said something in a fight. "What the hell was that Antonio! What did you fight about?" Turning to look at his sister, Antonio went to make sure that she breathed; as that was something that she had to do right now, she had to breathe for the sake of her daughter. "Okay, take a breath first…" Gabby then looked at me. "Oh, don't you dare say that; you made my husband mad!" Antonio then got close to his sister. "No, he's not mad; he's overwhelmed." Gabby was a bit taken aback when she heard her brother say that, as she didn't understand what he was trying to tell her. Why was he overwhelmed right now. "What?" Antonio sighed as he looked at his sister, before going to explain what he meant. "He's worried because he's been reading the possibilities of complications….that come with you having gotten pregnant so shortly after giving birth to the twins." Gabby took a breath.
"And he confessed something to me, that you need to know." Gabby agreed with Antonio when he said that. "And what might that be?" Antonio sighed. "It's about the real reason why he wanted to go to the hospital today, why he wanted to go see the Halstead twins." Gabby just listened to her brother when he said that, as he didn't know that. "Gabby, told me that he wanted to be reminded of what the boys looked like in the incubators; he wanted to get used to seeing that again, in case that's what has to happen when you give birth to your daughter." Gabby then looked at her brother, before turning her head to look at the house. "So Gabby, he didn't run inside because he's mad at me. He ran inside because…" Gabby then proceeded to finish his sentence. "Because he's overwhelmed, and scared." Antonio took a breath when he heard his sister say that. "God, what am I thinking? I knew this was the wrong idea. I should've gotten an abortion…" Antonio stopped his sister when she said that. "Hey, look at me." Gabby then did just that.
"Gabriela, you have wanted this your entire life. You wanted your husband to be there with you from the start. And now, that's what you've gotten. You've gotten the chance to be with him from the start of a pregnancy, which is exactly what you need. And this is just something that Matt thought he could do, but he's not ready; he got scared, and that meant that he got overwhelmed." Gabby agreed with Antonio when he said that, before starting to feel really bad. "God, I'm such an idiot." Antonio was shocked when he heard his sister say that, as that was the last thing that he wanted to hear. "Hey, I don't want to hear you say that." Gabby turned her head, and looked at her brother. "What are you talking about?" Antonio smiled. "Gabby, you wanted to have a baby with your husband; and that's all that matters at the end of the day. You love your husband, and you want to have a big family with him. So, that's what you're doing." Gabby agreed with her brother when he said that, glad that he was in the midst of calming her down right now.
"But right now, your husband needs you Gabby; he needs you to relax with him, and he needs you to do what he always does for you." Gabby agreed with Antonio when he said that, well aware that was the case. "I know. Thanks Antonio." Antonio smiled as he heard Gabby say that, well aware that was something that she appreciated. "Hey, you have nothing to thank me about Gabby. I promise that everything is okay. You're going to get through this, and you're going to be okay." Gabby agreed with Antonio when he said that, before going to hug him. "Can you keep taking care of my boys? Oh, and no driving me while I'm pregnant." Antonio snickered as he heard that. "Oh, I got that message loud and clear from your husband." Gabby agreed. "Okay, now I need to go take care of my husband." Antonio agreed with Gabby when she said that, before smiling as he watched her walk back inside so that she can comfort Matt.
