Hi Readers: I hope you guys liked the chapter that I just wrote for you guys, introducing the Jacobs to you. Now, I'm not sure what role the couple is going to play in the story going into the future; but I at least wanted to have them in the story, for when I need them. But now, I'm back with our favorite couple; Matt and Gabby, as they grieve together. But that doesn't mean that they can't go outside.
Chapter One Hundred and Seventy-Six
Noah's Crawling
Casey Kitchen – The moment that Matt learned the news that he and Gabby miscarried, he vowed that he would do everything he possibly could to give her as much of his undivided attention as he possibly could; and thanks to her mom, that's exactly what he has the ability to do as they don't have to take care of the boys right now. And that also means that Matt and Gabby have a chance to do some things that they usually wouldn't be able to do, things that are romantic; but still, not too romantic. After all, they are still grieving for the loss of their baby boy; the baby boy that they're never going to get a chance to meet, but Matt still wants to do something for his wife. And that would include starting a certain week of celebrations, because that's something that's going to make Gabby feel better. But just what are the couple going to celebrate? Well, that would be their anniversary. The anniversary that they are going to be celebrating all week, with Camila's assistance; and as of an hour earlier, Ramon (who just got here from his place).
Walking over to the kitchen this afternoon, Ramon walked in to see his son-in-law standing there while he made him and Gabby some supper; well, more like getting a package out so that he can start supper. And just what might he be making? That would be a lasagna, which is the second part of their supper; as there's something else that they're going to be having first, which is the whole romantic part of this supper. The romantic part would be the thing that Matt decided to make Gabby one of her favorite appetizers, a blueberry pie; and even better, it was made with fresh blueberries that he's bought recently. And let's just say that Ramon was quite impressed with the fact that he was making something special for his daughter, as that's what he expects his son-in-law to do; he expects him to take care of his baby girl and give her exactly what she needs. And he especially likes the fact that he took some time off, because he could tell (based on how Gabby was when he just saw her right now); she was going to need him here, taking care of her.
And that's something that Ramon plans on telling his son-in-law, just as soon as he was in the kitchen with Matt. "I have to say Matthew, I'm quite impressed when it comes to how you're taking care of Gabriela." Turning to look at Ramon, Matt was a bit confused when it comes to why he would even say that; I mean, why wouldn't he take care of his wife…especially when he's grieving. "Ramon, I hate to even think of what you're trying to imply." He then started to get a bit irritated, putting his hand on the counter. "Matt, I didn't mean to imply that…" Matt then proceeded to tell him what he meant to imply. "That I wouldn't take care of my wife, after she miscarried OUR child; while we're BOTH grieving for the second child that we lost together?" Ramon just looked at his son-in-law as he said that, well aware that he was starting to push his buttons; and that's why Camila just came into the kitchen so that she could save Matt from what her idiot of an ex-husband was saying. "Ramon?" Turning around, Ramon just looked at his ex-wife.
"How about you shut your mouth, and go to the living room to take care of our grandsons? And I'll take care of helping Matt." Ramon then went to looked at Camila. "Last time I checked, you aren't my wife anymore Camila." Matt then went to back Camila up. "And whose fault was that? Heck, you think that you're the one that divorced her? Bub, be lucky that she even puts up with you; if I were her, I wouldn't be anywhere near you after what you did to her Ramon. So, shut up and go take care of your grandsons." Ramon was about to say something, but just shut up and went to do what he was told to do; at the same time, Camila turned to look at Matt. "Where did that come from?" Matt snickered. "That time where he lived with us, still hate that time. I blame him for you guys not getting grandkids sooner than you did. I'm positive that we would've at least had one kid, had he not moved in when he did." Camila agreed with Matt as he said that, well aware that was the case. "Oh, I can see that happening. He always ruins things anyways."
Matt snickered as he heard Camila say that, before going back to concentrating on the salad that he was in the midst of making for supper; after which, he turned to look at Camila. "I hope you guys know that this supper isn't just for me and Gabby, I forgot to ask if you guys were okay with having Lasagna." Camila smiled as Matt asked her whether she was okay with them having lasagna. "Of course, we're okay with having lasagna Matt, I could've even made it for you." Matt shook his head. "No, I needed to get out of the room for a bit; just take a minute to breathe, so that I could relax." Camila looked at Matt when he said that, clearly able to see that something was bothering him. "Have you spoken to your mom lately?" Looking at Camila, Matt was confused. "What do you mean?" Camila sighed. "I just remember how you were last year, and that you were…" Matt then understood what she was trying to ask him, as she was thinking that his mom was currently MIA again; but that's not the case. "No, she's still with us. She's fine, and safe."
Camila agreed with Matt as he said that, glad that was the case. "Good, because I'm not ready to go all on the prototypes alone again." Matt laughed. "Believe me Camila, we aren't doing prototypes for a while; I actually think that Gabby is just going to be taking it easy for a while, as she just needs to relax and not concentrate on work right now. She just needs to take it easy, and she needs to remember that everything's okay." Camila agreed with Matt as he told her that, as that most definitely was the case; and she's just glad that she has such a great son-in-law who loves his wife more than anything in the entire world. "I hope Gabby lets you know each and every day how lucky she is to have you as her husband, because I most certainly whish I could've had a man like you as a husband." Camila said, throwing shade at Ramon. "Hey!" Camila then turned to look at Ramon. "You turned my anniversary party, into a divorce announcement. Be lucky I didn't come go for your pension!" Matt then went to stop the fighting in between them.
"HEY! Stop it you two! Ahora mismo, sois los abuelos de los chicos." Camila just looked at Matt when he said that, shocked that he knew that Spanish sentence. "You know what that means right?" Matt agreed. "Yes, I know what it means; I've heard Gabby say the sentence may times towards the both of you, and I asked her what it meant. It translates to 'right now, you're the boys' grandparents'. I swear, it's like you guys don't think that I know some Spanish; you have to remember that I'm a former alderman in a multicultural city, which a part of my then-ward was part-Hispanic. Also, I'm starting to practice my Spanish ahead of us having daughters; lord help me when I have two daughters who are like their mother." And let's just say that Ramon was not the biggest fan of that sentence, especially when it deals with his daughter; and he most certainly doesn't like it when her own husband puts her down, so he decided to defend her. "HEY! Watch what you're saying about my daughter." Matt then turned to look at Ramon, a big offended.
"Says the man who didn't even show up to our vow renewal last year, even though we sent you an invitation." Ramon then shut up when he heard Matt say that, well aware that was the case. "Exactly." Camila then went to look at her son-in-law, smiling at him. "I have to say, I am quite impressed when it comes to you being able to shut him up." Matt snickered as he heard Camila say that, before going back to concentrating on the salad that he's making for him and Gabby. "May I remind you that I have to deal with your son on a regular basis as well? By the way, what's it like having to deal with Antonio's new girlfriend at his place Ramon? I heard that they live together now." Looking up at Matt as he said that, Ramon was a bit surprised. "How did you know about that?" Matt laughed. "May I remind you that my wife is literally taking it easy in bed most of the time, which means that she takes in a lot of gossip?" Ramon and Camila both agreed with Matt as he said that, while Matt turned to look at Camila. "By the way, how was your scan last week?"
Camila just looked at Matt when he said that, surprised that he even knew about that. "How did you know about that?" Matt laughed a bit. "Because I know that Gabby wanted to know the results, and whether or not her mother has cancer." Camila smiled and was about to tell him the results until Ramon spoke up. "You have cancer Camila?" Turning to look at her ex-husband, Camila sighed. "Not that it concerns you, but no I don't have cancer; it's just a regular screening that I have to do, and you would know that if you ever remembered to go to yours….or tell your doctor that we're divorced, because he keeps calling me from Chicago!" Matt just looked at Ramon after hearing Camila say that, as he knew that was something that was wrong. "Seriously Ramon? C'mon, I'm a CEO, have two sons, and a pregnant wife; and I'm pretty sure that I would find time to do that. You should really do…" That's when Matt saw something that he didn't expect, stopping him in his tracks. "No way." Looking down, he just smiled at the sight.
The sight of his baby boy trying to crawl. "Oh my god, Noah…" He then made his way into the living room so that he could look at his little guy as he did a milestone, that he was currently crawling, which most definitely is something that he didn't expect to see while he was still down here. Bending down when he was at the door to the living room, Matt smiled as he crouched down. "C'mon here Noah! Come to daddy." Noah then went ahead and started to do just that, ready to get close to his daddy; just like he wants him to do, and so that he can stop looking so ridiculous (and speaking in that high pitch voice of his). Just smiling the entire time, Matt couldn't help but want to pick his little guy up in his arms (and celebrate the milestone that is him starting to crawl this afternoon). But first, Matt decided to bend down so that Noah could get close to him; after all, he didn't want him to stop crawling just because he was going to pick him up. He wanted Noah to do it on his own, he wanted him to crawl over to him, which he most certainly did.
Picking Noah up in his arms shortly after watching him crawl over to him, Matt smiled as he held him close and just wrapped his arms around him. "Noah, that was amazing." He then moved Noah close to his chest, kissing his cheek softly as he celebrated the fact that his little boy just crawled for the first time. He then smiled at his little guy and then went to tickle him. "What was that little guy? Did you really just crawl for daddy today?" Hearing Matt say that shortly after coming downstairs from her nap, Gabby was shocked.
"Sorry, but did you just say that I missed Noah crawl for the first time?"
She thought that she was hearing things, it couldn't be that she just missed Noah crawling for the first time; there's no way that could be the case, because then that would be crazy. But it turns out that was the truth, which meant that she missed out on her chance to see him crawl for the first time. Just looking at Noah as she stood close to Matt, Gabby smiled as she kissed the side of his head and looked at him. "Hey, when did you get down here?" Gabby smiled as Matt asked her when she got down here, because she just got down here. "I just got down here right now, just wish I got here like two minutes sooner." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, well aware that was the case; and he knew why that was the case. But at least she's down here because it means that she can see somebody. "Well, at least you're down here. Want to stay down here for a bit now that you're out? You need a bit of exercise." Gabby thought about it, until she heard her dad's voice. "Or can you at least let me give you a hug sweetheart?"
Turning her head, Gabby saw her dad; after which, she looked at Matt and smiled at the man she loves. "Maybe we can at least stay down here until after supper? My dad's here baby." Matt agreed with Gabby as she mentioned that her dad's here, as he was well aware that was the case; plus, he had a feeling that was going to happen. "Here, do you want Noah?" Gabby agreed with Matt as she reached for Noah, ready to go pick him up. "Maybe you can do me a favor and get me a bottle of milk for him?" Grabbing Noah from Matt's arms, Gabby cuddled up to him before kissing his forehead softly. "Who's mommy's big boy, that's crawling now? Well, you're going to need to slow down when it comes to growing up mister; because I'm not sure if I'm ready to have you crawling all around the house." Gabby then realized something, and turned to look at Matt. "Walk around the house and go count the number of doorways for me?" Matt was confused as he heard Gabby say that. "What are you talking…" Matt then realized. "Oh, shit."
Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, smiling at him; at the same time, Matt got close to Gabby and wrapped his arms around her (before kissing the side of her head, and whispering to her). "Can I maybe pull you aside for a minute, and we can talk for a minute?" Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that. "Let me just go bring Noah into the living room, and then we can go out back?" Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, before watching as she walked away to go bring Noah into the living room; at the same time, he took a breath and walked over to Camila so that he could talk to her. "It's a nice surprise to see both you, as well as Gabby downstairs." Matt agreed with Camila as she said that, as it really was a surprise. "Yeah." Turning to look at her yerno (son-in-law) after hearing him speak to her, Camila could already tell that something was wrong with him. "Is everything okay Matt?" Matt sighed. "I want to take Gabby to a side for a minute. I haven't spoken to her since before her nap, and…" Camila then understood what he was saying.
"You want to just take her aside for a minute, and check on her?" Matt agreed with Camila as she asked him whether that was what he wanted to do, as that was exactly what he wanted to do; he wanted to pull Gabby aside and talk to her in private. "I promise that we're going to stay down here for supper, but I do still want to just do my job and check on Gabby. I know that she's really hurting, and I just…" Going to grab Matt's hand, Camila already understood what was going on through his head. "Matt, you don't have to explain it all; just take a breath and relax mi Hijo. I know that you're concerned for Gabby, as am I; and I know that you need to do check ins with her, especially after she just woke up. So, I am not going to stop you. Matt, please do just that." Matt agreed with Camila as she told him that, glad that was the case; after all, that's exactly what he wants to do right now. He wants to go talk to Gabby, and just check on her…because he knows that she may still be putting a brave face on, because that's the last thing he wants her to do.
Casey Backyard - Holding Gabby's hand as the two of them walked in their backyard, Matt took a breath as he intertwine their fingers as he thought about how he wants to start this conversation with her. But luckily, he didn't have to start it; because Gabby decided to start the conversation, by talking about a topic that they both were going to enjoy talking about. "So, Noah's crawling now." Matt laughed a bit, while stroking her hand. "Yeah, I guess he is. Honestly, it's still all fresh." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, laying her head down on his arm. "Honestly, it's been such a ride over the last eighteen months; from where we were last May, to where we are now…" Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, well aware of what he was talking about. "You mean, how I didn't even think that we'd still be married; heck, that we'd even be having a baby, let alone four of them." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, as that definitely was something that neither of them expected to have. "Four children, it's still crazy." Gabby agreed. "Could've been five."
Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, before deciding to turn and face her; wanting to stop their walk so that they can hold each other close, and just concentrate on each other for a minute. And the truth was, that was something that they needed to do. "I know that you're going to say that until after we have the kids, but I promise that I'm right here for you; and I'm always going to be here for you, that's something you can count on." Getting close to Matt, Gabby agreed with him as she put her hands on his chest; after all, that was something that she already knew…that she could count on him, especially since he's been there for her every step of the way. "Want to go sit down on the little bench there for a minute? I think we're far enough away from the house." Matt smiled as he heard Gabby ask him that, as that was the entire reason that they were coming this far into the backyard. "Yeah, that's actually why we're back here; so that we can talk for a minute, without any nosy parents coming to check on us." Gabby agreed with Matt.
Making her way over to the bench with him, Gabby couldn't help but smile a bit as she has a great husband; and that's just something that she's happy about, as they come up on their third anniversary. Sure, she's not in the mood to celebrate; but they are going to at least acknowledge it, and she's just glad that Matt decided to make some lasagna. At least, she thinks he was the one who picked the mean; she's going to ask them about that, just as soon as they're sitting down with each other on the bench, which is actually what they're doing right now. Sitting down after walking up to the bench, Gabby smiled as she looked up at Matt; at the same time, Matt leaned over her and then bent down to kiss her softly. Moving her hand to Matt's neck, Gabby smiled as she took things nice and slow with the man she loves more than anything. "I love you." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, as he loves her too. "I love you too Gabby." Sitting down next to her shortly afterwards, Matt wrapped his arm around her and got nice and close to his wife.
At the same time, he put his hand out and reached for Gabby's hand; shortly afterwards, Gabby grabbed his hand as they held each other close. "I have to say, I do like sitting out here to talk." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that. "I had a feeling that you would, which is why I thought we could go out here for a moment; then, we'd be able to share a moment alone with each other…and just concentrate on each other, because that is something I'm still committed to doing." Looking at Matt as he said that, Gabby agreed; at the same time, she smiled at him to give him reassurance that she already knew that. "Matt, you have no need to tell me that; because I already know that you're here for me, you've always been here for me…and I feel so lucky to have you be my husband." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, before smiling at her. "I just want to make sure that you're okay, because I know that you're still dealing with a lot; some of that being related to the fact that you uhm…" Gabby then felt him move his hand to her stomach.
And she knew exactly what he was talking about right away, since it was quite obvious. "I know, that's something that's worrying you…isn't it baby?" Matt took a breath as he heard Gabby mention that he's worried about (because it is). "I hate that it's something that I even need to worry about, but I just want to make sure that you're okay; and I'm going to do it for the rest of the pregnancy. And I hope you know that I won't hold it against you if you think it'll be too much to do it, for that long." Gabby was shocked as she heard Matt say that, especially due to what he was implying; he was implying that she wanted to terminate the pregnancy, just because they lost one of the triplets (who was still inside of her). "Hey, are you implying that I would want to end this pregnancy because I'm carrying Jackson?" Matt sighed as Gabby said that, as he didn't want to think that way; but it was something that crossed his mind, while they were taking a nap earlier. "You know what, it was stupid." Gabby shook her head, looking at her husband.
"Hey, don't say that it's stupid; I want you to be honest with me…is that why you came downstairs baby?" Matt sighed as he let go of Gabby's hand and moved his hand to her stomach; after which, he stroked it with his thumb so that they could just take it easy and hold each other close. "Does it make me a horrible father that I even wanted to think that way?" Turning her head, Gabby looked up at the man she loves; after which, she shook her head and just stared into his eyes. "Hey, I never want you to call yourself a horrible father; because that's the last thing that you are Matt, you're an incredible father. And you love Matteo and Noah more than anything in the entire world, you cherish them…and you cherish me with your love every single day, and that's just something that makes me smile each and every day. I hope you know that baby, that you make me smile every day." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, well aware that was the case; after which, he leaned in and just smiled as he started to take things nice and slow with the woman he loves.
"I love you, and I'm sorry that I even thought this way." Gabby shook her head as Matt apologized, because that was something that he didn't need to do; especially not when they're still dealing with all of this. "Hey, I know that you're still struggling with all of this Matt; and I know that you have a lot on your mind, and that's why we're in this together baby. We're going to concentrate on making sure that we get through this together, right Matt?" Matt agreed with Gabby as she asked him that question, as that most definitely is exactly what he wants to do with the woman he loves; he wants to make sure that they work this out together, and he wants to make sure that they work together. "I promise, we're always going to work through all of this together." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, just smiling at him. "But hey, before we go inside; no bad dreams while I was gone right? Everything was okay, right?" Gabby took a breath as Matt asked her whether she had bad dreams. "Just one." Matt looked at Gabby. "What was it about?" Gabby bit her lip, as she was scared to say; but she also knew that she had to tell Matt the truth, or else it'd hurt her more. So, she just said it.
"In my dream, I lost all of the babies."
