Note: Written for the Thirty Days of Prodigy prompt of "coffee."
They'd all tried it, of course.
Dal hated it.
Rok learned to like it. Gwyn could take it or leave it.
Murf and Zero just absorbed it to no effect.
But Jankom? Jankom loved it.
Which is how the rest of the crew found themselves outside engineering late one ship's night, everyone eyeing everyone else and no one saying anything until finally, Gwyn broke the silence.
"You're the captain," she said, gesturing to Dal.
"So I should delegate, right? Rok, you do it," he said, with a nod toward the Brikar.
Rok shook her head vigorously. "No way. I'm not going in there."
Murf trilled in agreement, and Zero just slowly floated backward until Dal sighed.
"Fine," he said, "but when you have to find a new captain, it's not on me."
Dal then strode into engineering with far more confidence than he felt as the others crowded into the hatchway to watch.
It really was a pity they hadn't brought snacks.
Because seeing Dal try to convince Jankom that a solid thirty hours of fiddling with the warp core wasn't doing him any good and he really should lay off the coffee turned out to be quite the show.
