Hi Readers: I hope you guys liked the last chapter that I wrote for you guys, but I think it's time to go back to the hospital. But that doesn't mean that I'm going right back to Matt and Gabby. Rather, I am going to do something a bit different. But before we begin, I know that this chapter is going to be more Grey's Anatomy than Chicago Med; but still, I like the idea of me doing this right now.
Chapter Two Hundred and Sixty-Three
On Call…But Not on my (Extended) Leave of Absence
Back at the hospital, April, and Ethan both currently in the midst of laying down in the on-call room together; the engaged couple having decided to work over a fight that they had earlier this morning here in their private on-call room. But after they made up through talking, they decided to have a bit of make-up sex. And god, it was hot; and April was really happy that they took a moment to work things out and just calm things down. Plus, the fight was stupid; and not really something that they had to talk about, as they weren't even planning their wedding yet. Yet, April told him that she wanted to have a four-course meal; at the same time, Ethan wanted a buffet meal. And that was what their fight was about. The type of food service they're going to have at their wedding (which they've yet to set a date for). But now, they're in a better place. At least, April thinks they are. She still wants to talk to Ethan about it for a bit, before they have to get up soon; and that was something that Ethan already knew as he turned his head this morning. Kissing her forehead softly, Ethan smiled as he looked down at his beautiful fiancé. "We have to get up soon." April agreed with Ethan.
"I know, but I am just comfortable; and I don't think I'm ready to get up yet, not when we were just in a fight." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, before turning his head and pressing his lips to her forehead once again. "April, we can do what you want. At the end of the day, it's your dream day." April looking up at Ethan as he said that. "It's your wedding too Ethan." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, before leaning his forehead against hers. "My wedding will be the happiest day of my life, if by the end of that night; you are my wife, my Ms. Choi." April smiled as she heard Ethan say that. "And if I'm like this in your bed." Ethan laughed as he heard April say that, before bending down and kissing her once more. And god, did April really like that. "So, one last thing before you get up." Ethan laughed. "I think I need to put my boxers on at least, okay April?" April agreed with her fiancé as he said that, before smiling as she rolled off of his chest; after which, she laid down next to her man. Meanwhile, Ethan sat up and just went to stretch a bit.
Meanwhile, April put her hand on his back and rubbed it. "Can you get my underwear for me Ethan?" Bending down to grab his boxers, Ethan smiled as he proceeded to put them on; after which, he got up and looked at his beautiful fiancé. And let's just say that April really liked the sight of that, her man putting his boxers on as he stands in front of her. "I have to say, that's pretty hot." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, before moving to grab her underwear, which he then threw over to her, just like she wanted. "Not that you don't like playing with me like this." April agreed with Ethan as he said that, before smiling as she went to put her underwear on. She then looked around for her bra and found it under the bed. "I swear, this better not get us in trouble." Ethan agreed with his beautiful fiancé as she said that, before looking at her as she put her bra on. After which, he walked up behind her and put his hands on her sides. "Here, let me help you." Agreeing with her future husband, April turned around in his arms so that he could help her.
At the same time, Ethan went to help April with her bra and just went ahead and did it up for her. And let's just say that April loved that feeling. "I have to say, I really like that feeling." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, before moving his hands to her hips; turning her around in his arms in short order, Ethan smiled as he stepped close to her. "Listen, I'm sorry that we fought…and I hope you know that I hate it." April agreed with Ethan as he said that, before putting her hands on his chest; she then leaned in and kissed the man she loves softly. "I know Ethan, and I promise that it's all good. We can figure things out." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, and smiled at his future wife; after which, he stepped close to her and brought her body against his. "I want you to have the wedding of your dreams, so I promise to give you that; I can get the party." April agreed with Ethan as he said that, before smiling as she put her hands on his chest. After which, she went to check the time and saw that they only had a few minutes left on break.
"Unfortunately, we're back at work in a couple minutes." Turning around to look at the clock, Ethan agreed with April as she said that; after which, he leaned in and proceeded to take things nice and slow with her. "I love you." April agreed with Ethan as she said that, as she loves him too. "I love you too Ethan." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, well aware that was the case. "Now, we really need to get dressed." April smiled as she looked at him. "So listen, I was going to go check on the Caseys while we're up on this floor." Taking a breath as she heard Ethan say that, April went to go check her pager. "I'm actually needed in the ED again." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, while putting his pants on; after which, he went ahead and grabbed his shirt. "I understand." Grabbing her pants, April put them on while turning to look at her man. "I had to say though, this was a lot of fun." Ethan agreed with April as she said that. "Oh, it most definitely was and I'm definitely not going to complain if we decide to do it again in the future." April snickered and agreed.
At the same time, Ethan finished getting ready and decided to wait for April to finish getting ready before they left. "What are you waiting for? Go, leave ahead of me." Ethan shook his head. "I want one more kiss before I leave." Laughing a bit as she held her shirt in her hand, April made her way over to the man of her dreams; after which, she put her hands on his chest and smiled as she kissed Ethan softly. "I love you. Now, you really need to calm down Dr. Choi." Ethan smiled. "It's actually Lieutenant Choi here." April shook her head. "For me, it's Ethan or Dr. Choi. I am not ready to think of you going back to war." Ethan agreed with April as she said that. "Let me guess, the whole Trump-Kim Jong Un stuff is still on your mind." April sighed. "I am always worried if my fiancé is going back to war, but not as much now." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, before looking at her. "Listen, I'm going to get out of here." April agreed. "Okay. Say hi to Matt and Gabby for me." Ethan was a bit taken aback as he heard April say that. "How did you…"
April looked at Ethan as he said that. "Ethan, we're in the on-call room right down the hallway from the NICU. I had a feeling that you wanted to go say hi." Ethan sighed as he heard April say that. "Me and Natalie agreed to keep in touch with each other, even when she's off. I mean, we know them…and I want to make sure that he's okay, since he's our friend and we both have PTSD." Adjusting her shirt and pants, April agreed with Ethan as he said that before walking over to him; after which, she wrapped her arms around his neck and smiled at her man. Meanwhile, Ethan moved his hands to her back and smiled as he stared into her eyes and then leaned in to kiss her softly. "You are so sweet, and a real gentleman." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, before smiling at him. "I'm your man first." April smirked as she leaned in and kissed him softly. "Say hi to Matt and Gabby for me, okay?" Ethan agreed with April as she said that, before giving her one last kiss; after which, he walked out of the on-call room so that he could go see Matt and Gabby.
Casey NICU Suite – Walking into the Casey NICU suite this morning, Ethan smiled as he knocked on the door to see Matt sitting in the living room area of the suite while using his laptop; and that was when he realized that Matt didn't actually hear him, because he had his headphones in. "Mr. Casey?" Hearing Ethan's voice at least, Matt turned his head and snickered as he heard him call him Mr. Casey. "What did I tell you Ethan? You can call me Matt." Ethan smiled as he heard Matt say that. "You told me that as my CEO, not as a patient here in the hospital." Matt agreed with Ethan as he said that, before getting up so that he could get up and make his way over to his Chicago friend. "How are you?" Walking over to him, Matt smiled as he went to hug him; but at the same time, he got to smell him. And boy, did Ethan smell like sex. "You smell like sex." Ethan just looked at Matt when he said that, before going to smell his shirt. "Oh shit." Matt just looked at Ethan, before smirking. "On call room?" Ethan laughed, until he realized who he was talking to.
"Wait, how do you know about that. I swear, it's not like what you se…" Matt smiled. "On TV, I know. Much less romantic." Ethan was confused as he heard Matt say that. "You've done it before?" Matt nodded, smirking. "Ethan, I used to be engaged to a Doctor; remember?" Ethan then remembered that. "By the way, where's April? I thought she would be here with you." Ethan agreed. "Oh, we were just together. But she got paged down to the ED." Matt agreed with Ethan as he said that, before making his way over to the door and going to check on Gabby (as she was still asleep). "Sorry about my improper attire here." Ethan shook his head, as he looked at Matt; and he soon realized just what he was talking about, he was talking about the fact that he was just wearing some sweats. "Matt don't even worry about that. We want you to be comfortable here." Matt smiled as he heard Ethan say that, before walking back over to the couch; after which, he sat down in his sweats so that he could be comfortable (just like Ethan said that he should be).
"Here, how about you sit down?" Ethan agreed with Matt as he got invited to sit down, but not before Andy got off the couch and walked over to Ethan. "Hi Andy." Ethan then looked up at Matt, hoping that he could pet him. "Do you…" Matt shook his head. "I'd rather you not, because I'm trying to get him trained again. He just jumped up on a nurse. I think he's gotten too used to being a family pet, and less of a service dog." Ethan agreed with Matt as he said that, so he stood up and moved his hands behind his back; that way, the doctor could tell the service dog that he had to go lay down. And luckily, that worked. "Wait, how did…" Ethan smiled. "I'm a Doctor Matt, I know how to treat service dogs; and I know about some that are still in training, and how to help the handlers." Matt agreed with Ethan as he said that. "I appreciate that. So, you just need a break away from the ED, or are you in trouble with April and hiding?" Ethan just looked at Matt as he said that, before finally going to sit down. "Last time I checked, I…" Matt then remembered.
"Right, no need to talk about that." Ethan laughed as he heard Matt say that, well aware that was the case; after which, Matt decided to sit up and look at him. "So, how long do I have you for? I would really like to just talk to you for a bit." Ethan smiled. "I have a bit of time. I can always write it off as consulting with a patient for PTSD." Matt agreed with Ethan as he said that, liking that idea. "So, I've been meaning to talk to you. I saw that you signed your contract." Ethan agreed with Matt. "I thought I could just do that for you, get one less thing off your mind." Matt agreed. "I still hate that I couldn't be there to properly welcome you to the company, so this is me doing that." Matt then put his hand out, while Ethan went to shake it. "Thanks Matt. And I promise, I'll give you a heads up for when I need time off for wedding stuff." Matt agreed. "Actually, you're going to give Mr. Solano a heads up. I'm actually going to be taking an extended leave of absence." Ethan was a bit taken aback as he heard his boss say that. "Really?" Matt agreed. "Here sit."
To say that the doctor was a bit taken aback when he heard that his boss was going to be taking an extended leave of absence, that would be an understatement; then again, he can't really judge him. Both because he's not in a place to understand, nor can he question his boss. Well, maybe he can question his friend; just see what's happening, and whether he needs to talk. "Is everything okay Matt?" Matt sighed as he looked at his friend, before looking at him. "I don't want you to be worried, because I'm fine." Ethan agreed with Matt as he said that, glad that was the case. "Good, because I was a bit worried there." Matt nodded. "But what's going on with the extended leave of absence, might I ask?" Matt sighed. "I am going to be stepping back from the company a bit…" Matt then turned his head and looked at Gabby. "Right now, those girls over there are my priority. Heck, we aren't even going to be in the office for a while." Ethan just agreed with Matt as he said that. "You want to concentrate on all of your kids instead?" Matt agreed with Ethan as he asked him whether he wants to concentrate on all of their kids instead, as that's exactly what he wants to do right now.
"That's exactly what I want to do right now. I want to concentrate on Matteo, Noah, Bella, and Sofia….and Gabby, of course." Ethan smiled as he heard Matt say that, before agreeing with him. "Well, I think that's a great idea; especially since it will bring down the stress for a while." Matt agreed. "Especially since me and Gabby are going to be here until right before my birthday." Ethan was confused as he heard Matt say that. "When's your birthday?" Matt smiled. "March 24th. We get out of the hospital two weeks before that." Ethan gulped as he heard Matt say that, not really liking the sound of that. "I'm so sorry Matt, you must hate that." Matt agreed with Ethan as he said that. "But I'd rather have my girls, than not have them." Ethan agreed with Matt as he said that, as he could clearly see that's the case. However, it wasn't long before Matt started to hear Gabby stir in bed. "Matt? Mat…" Getting up, Matt took a breath as he looked at Ethan. "She okay?" Matt sighed. "She's been having bad dreams of late." Ethan agreed as Matt got up.
After which, Matt start to make his way into his and Gabby's room so that he could calm Gabby down; after all, that's what he needs to do for her right now. "Matt, do you want me to leave?" Taking a breath, Matt agreed with Ethan. "Unfortunately, I think that might be a good idea. Maybe send me an e-mail with those questions you have for me? I will work it out with everybody." Ethan agreed with Matt as he said that. "Door?" Matt agreed with Ethan as he said that. "Please, and make sure that Andy stays in here for me." Ethan agreed with Matt as he said that, before going to leave the hospital room; at the same time, he also made sure that Andy stayed in there. Meanwhile, Matt proceeded to make his way into his and Gabby's room so that he could be with the woman he loves; after all, that seems to be where he needs to be at the moment. He needs to be with her right now and giving her the comfort that she needs from him. And he could only imagine one reason why she needs him: she's having a bad dream at the moment.
"Matt? Mat…" Those were the one words that Matt needed to hear her say to make him come be with her right now, which is exactly where her loving husband is now as he sat down on their bed with her and held her hand with their fingers intertwined. "Hey, it's okay. I'm right here." Starting to snap out of it, Gabby looked at Matt. "Hey, where did you just go?" Gabby took a breath as she looked at her husband this morning, still a bit scared right now. "I guess…" Matt could clearly see that she was scared right now. "Scared?" Gabby took a breath, before agreeing with Matt. "Yeah." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, before leaning over the woman he loves; after which, he moved his hand to her neck and proceeded to bend down and kiss the woman he loves softly. Pulling away from the kiss, Matt smiled at Gabby before leaning his forehead against hers; after which, he whispered to her. "Baby, I'm right here. And I'm always going to be here when you take a nap, because you need me here." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that.
She then put her hand on his face and leaned her forehead against his. "Thank you." Matt shook his head as he heard Gabby thank him for being here, because that isn't something that he needs to be thanked for; it's something that she should expect him to do, because it's his job to be here for her right now. She's his wife, and there's nowhere else that he needs to be right now; other than right here, with his girls. "I promise Gabby, you don't need to worry about me not being here; because this is the only place I want to be right now. Here, at the hospital; with you and our girls." Gabby smiled as she heard Matt say that. "And you don't want to be with the boys?" Matt shook his head before moving his hand to the side of her face again, after which he bent down and kissed his beautiful wife softly. "No, because I want to be where I'm needed. And right now, I need to be here with the woman I love." Gabby agreed with Matt as he told her that, before putting her hand on his arm; after which, she stroked it and just stared into his eyes.
"You truly are the best husband in the entire world." Matt smiled as he heard Gabby say that, before bending down and proceeding to kiss her softly; after which, Matt smiled as he leaned his forehead against hers once more. "What do you say I get in bed with you? That way, I can cuddle up to you and hold you close. You clearly had a bad dream, and you need me to hold you." Gabby agreed with Matt as he asked her whether he can get in bed so that he can hold her, because that's exactly what she wants from her man. "I'd really appreciate that." Matt smiled as he heard Gabby say that, before going to grab her hand. "Then how about you let me in bed? Then, I can hold you and we can just take it easy with each other; just like you want to do right now." Gabby agreed with Matt. "Another thing I want, is for you not to work." Matt sighed. "I had to do the financials ahead of Friday's paycheck release." Looking at her husband as he said that, Gabby understood. "Okay." Matt was a bit taken aback when he heard Gabby say that. "Really?"
Moving over in bed, Gabby smiled as she wanted Matt to lay down in bed; then, she would talk to him about it. "Come lay down." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, before going to grab his pillow; after which, he adjusted it so that he could get in bed (which he soon did the moment his pillow was ready). After all, he wants to get in bed with Gabby as soon as he can; that way, he can hold her close and make her feel better. Because at the end of the day, that's what he wants to do. He wants to hold the woman he loves in his arms, and he wants to make her feel comfortable. And when he holds her in his arms, that most certainly is exactly how Gabby feels; she feels extremely comfortable, and really happy to be in Matt's arms…because he's the best pillow in the entire world. Yes, you just heard that right; Gabby just called her husband a pillow, because that's how he acts for her…as a pillow. And boy is he a comfortable pillow, especially since he's extremely muscular; and god, is that really sexy. The way his arms feel around her…so hot.
But Matt's more than okay with that, as it means that Gabby is comfortable in his arms; and that's what he wants at the end of the day. For his gorgeous wife to be comfortable, as she lays down in his arms and just gets all cozy with him. Plus, what's better than the feeling of his wife's head on her heart. And that's exactly what he's about to get, the moment he's in bed; both due to the fact that Matt wants it, and due to the fact that Gabby wants it as well. And now that he was all cozy in bed, it's something that they now have rather than want. And boy is this nice: the sight of Gabby crawling into Matt's arms and laying down so that she can just cuddle up to her dreamy husband; at the same time, Matt turned his head and kissed the top of her head. "So, listen, I want to apologize for what I did back there." Looking up at Matt as he said that. "I know that's not what you wanted, but I still did it." Gabby sighed and looked at her husband (while also wrapping her arms around Matt's torso some more). "Hey, look down at me for a second baby."
Moving to grab the covers as he looked down at Gabby, Matt tugged them up on top of the both of them; after which, he wrapped his arm around Gabby's lower back and put his hand on her arm. And boy, did Gabby love his feeling; especially when Matt bends down and kisses her softly. "God, so sexy." Matt smiled as he kissed Gabby again, before feeling her lay her head down on his chest; after which, Matt turned his head and kissed her forehead softly. "So, like I was saying…I'm sorry that I…" Gabby shook her head. "No, Matt don't apologize for that. You were releasing funds ahead of the paychecks. And that means that you needed to do a bit of work." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, before looking down into Gabby's eyes. "I'm sorry that it has to be this way at times. I wish I could just delegate it to someone else." Gabby agreed with Matt. "Because you want to concentrate on me and the girls right now?" Matt agreed with Gabby, as that's exactly what he wants to be doing right now. He wants to concentrate on his girls right now.
"Yeah, I want to concentrate on you and the girls; because that's what I should be doing right now, concentrating on you, Bella, and Sofia." Gabby smiled as she heard Matt say their daughters' names. "I have to say, I really like the names we chose for the girls." Turning his head, Matt smiled as he looked at Bella and Sofia. "I can't wait to hold them in my arms." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, just smiling as she thought about that. "I can't wait to see you do it, with you shirtless." Looking down at Gabby as she said that, Matt smirked as he knew what she was thinking about. "You remember when I did it with the boys?" Gabby smiled as she looked up at Matt, before agreeing with him; after which, Matt bent down and proceeded to kiss Gabby softly (but only after she asked him a question). "You take him out recently?" Matt agreed. "I just got back from doing that, before I started to check on work a bit." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, glad that was the case; and she was also happy that he just started to give her a back rub.
"Oh, now that's something that I love the feeling of." Looking down at Gabby, Matt smiled as he knew exactly what she was talking about. "You talking about the back massage that I'm in the midst of giving you, with my thumb?" Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that. "I am telling you right now…I don't care if we get out of here right before your birthday, I am going to the spa and getting a deep tissue massage. I need it so bad." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that. "Hey, of course you can do that Gabby. But can we not think about that right now? I would rather not think too far into the future when it comes to our family, because I already have to do it every day when it comes to the business." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, before feeling him kiss the side of her head. "By the way, what were you reaming about?" Gabby sighed. "I was thinking about what happened again." Matt agreed with Gabby as she told him that. "I'm sorry that's the case baby." Gabby agreed with Matt as he told her that, well aware that's the case.
"I know you are. But there's nothing we can do about it, and we just need to breathe and take it easy. But I can tell you this. I just got a text from your mom, and she told me that the boys are all good at the big house; they're officially living there now, and they're waiting for us to come home there." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, loving that idea. "I like the sound of that." Matt smiled. "And when we are homme, you're going to get me for three months." Gabby looked up at Matt when he said that. "What?" Matt smiled as he looked at Gabby as she asked him whet he meant (indirectly). "Once we're out of the hospital, I decided that I'm going to take a three-month paternity leave; no work, no nothing. I am going to concentrate on nothing but out family." Gabby smiled as she heard Matt say that. "I have to say, I really like that idea." Matt agreed with her, before kissing her forehead too. "I want to do it right this time. I don't want to rush back to work, and I want to concentrate on the boys." Gabby agreed with Matt, before sighing.
"Hey, I recognize that sigh. What's going on Gabby?" Turning her head, Gabby looked up at the man she loves. "Do you think we're doing the right thing in just having it be us and the girls here?"
