Chapter Three Hundred and Nineteen
The Start of COVID with the Choi Family
March 10th – Casey Headquarters, 23rd Floor: Home of Dr. & Ms. Choi
He was finally home after a long 48-hour shift, as that's how long shifts are now at the Kapiolani-Tripler AMC. And that's all due to one thing, COVID. They need more doctors and nurses, which is why they are doing 48-hour shifts rather than 24-hour shifts in the ER. And he was okay with that, as it just meant that he got 72-hours off. And he most certainly was going to enjoy it, as it meant that he was going to get a chance to spend seventy-two uninterrupted hours with his beautiful wife and son. Yes, you just heard that right, his son. But let me explain that. You see, Ethan's sister recently gave birth to a son named Vincent; but before the birth, she realized that she wasn't going to be able to raise the baby on her own. And there was a reason for that, because the father is married.
And not to his sister, but to another woman; whom he also has two other children with, and a third on the way. And his sister was not having that, so she decided that she was not going to put up with him; but at the same time, she knew that she couldn't raise the baby. So, she asked her loving older brother if he could do something for her. And that would be to adopt his nephew, and raise him as his own, which he gladly agreed to, as he knew what it meant. It meant that his sister would be able to see the little boy whenever she wants to, but there were some rules; most notably, it was that she was not going to be the one who is called her mother. That role will go to his new wife. And no, you didn't hear that wrong; Ethan is married to the beautiful April Choi…and he already loves this life.
The life that they're creating with each other, as well as their new son here in Hawaii; but right now, Ethan needs to do something else. He needs to finish getting ready to get in bed with his wife, while trying to do it as quietly as possibly as to not wake Vincent up; but first, he decided to take his morning medication. The medication which April oh so neatly puts out for him each and every morning, and also dispenses when he goes to shift. And that's just one of the many reasons why Ethan truly does love his wife, because she is exactly what he needs in life. She completes him, and she completes their family; and at the same time, she also makes him feel alive and relaxed. Well, not just that; she makes him feel sexy too, which is exactly what she's in the midst of doing right now.
And just how is she doing that? Well, she just walked up behind Ethan in her robe and went to rub his back. "Someone tried to sneak in without telling me they were here." Turning around to face his wife, Ethan smiled at her; especially when he noticed that somebody else was awake, which would be his little Vincent. "Hi bud." But before he could do anything else, he had to take his medicine, which was exactly what he did, before taking a sip of the water that he was just filling up. After which, he carried the glass over to the sink and set it down. "I'm surprised to see you awake." April agreed with her husband as he said that, well aware that was the case. "Vincent didn't sleep the best last night." Turning to face April, Ethan got concerned. "What happened?" April sighed.
After which, she turned to look at Vincent. "He just didn't want to sleep. I tried everything. Formula, nursery rhymes, he even just laid down on my chest; but nothing worked." Ethan sighed as he heard April say that, feeling horrible that his wife had to deal with that on her own. "I'm sorry that you had to deal with that last night, on your own April." April took a breath and agreed with Ethan as he said that; after which, she watched as he washed his hands again. "Maybe you holding him can help." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, having just thought the same way. "I was just thinking the same thing. Let me just wash my hands, then I'll grab him, and you can go back to bed. Want any coffee or anything?" April sighed. "I might just head back to bed." Ethan agreed with April.
After which, he grabbed the towel and smiled as he dried his hands. "Honestly, I was going to do the same thing. Maybe we can put him in his cot or something? See whether hehe'll sleep like that." April agreed with Ethan as he said that, while watching as he made his way over to her; after which, he grabbed his handsome son from his beautiful wife. "Hi you…." Bringing Vincent close to his chest, Ethan smiled as he grabbed the back of her head and kissed her forehead. "Does someone not want to sleep for mommy? Well, we can't have that. Vincent needs to sleep for mommy." Smiling as she heard her husband say that, April agreed with Ethan as that was exactly what she wanted to hear. "Listen, I'm going to put his crib on your side of the bed." Ethan agreed with April and smiled.
But first, he wanted something; so, he extended his hand, and reached out for his wife. "Come here first." April agreed with Ethan as he said that, before getting close to him. At the same time, Ethan grabbed the back of her head and leaned in to kiss her softly. He then took things nice and slow with April, really happy that they decided to get married. "I'm happy we decided to get married." April agreed with Ethan as he said that, as she felt the same way. "As am I. Now, I am going to go get things set up in our room. You maybe hum to her or something, whatever you do so that you can get her back to sleep." Ethan snickered, as he knew exactly what April was talking about; there's just something about the way he rocks Vincent that makes her sleep much more than how April does.
And he can't help but wonder whether April is worried about that. "Want to talk about that when I'm in bed? I can see that you have something on your mind." April sighed, as she did have something on her mind. "Do you mind?" Shaking his head, Ethan smiled at April as he doesn't mind whatsoever. "I don't mind at all. Just go take it easy, and get the crib set up; I'll be there soon." April agreed with Ethan as he said that, loving the fact that they are husband-and-wife; while also being parents to Vincent, as it's just brought an entire new side of Ethan out. Something that just makes her smile even more, and which makes them both happier. And that's something that Ethan knew, as he went to grab his coffee to take a sip; all the while, he held his son close to him today.
"April, I might sit in the living room for a bit. Maybe he can fall asleep there, and then I'll put him in the crib. Just get in bed."
April agreed with Ethan as he said that, as she thought that was a good idea. "Sounds like a good idea. I'll see you soon." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, continuing to smile at his gorgeous wife as she walked away to their room this morning; while at the same time, he made his way over to the living room where he was going to sit with Vincent. But little did he know that he was going to end up falling asleep there for a bit; but not long enough for him to not be able to sneak into bed with April, as he plans on doing just that.
Walking into his and April's room shortly after spending a bit of time with Vincent on the couch, he couldn't help but smile at the sight in front of him; the sight of his beautiful wife all comfortable in their bed, and just looking extremely beautiful there as she sleeps in their room. And luckily for her, she's going to be able to keep sleeping for a while as Vincent is still fast asleep, which truly is a blessing, as he wants her to sleep for a while. He wants his baby boy to sleep, so that he and April can take it easy and just hold each other for a while. But first, he has to do something for Vincent; and that would be to set him down in his crib, where he can sleep and take it easy. And that's exactly what the proud father did, as he walked up to the side of his crib and grabbed her little blanket for hm.
Picking it up, he smiled as he went ahead and laid Vincent down this morning before covering her up once more; after which, he smiled as he looked at the handsome little boy who was his son. And honestly, it was so nice to be able to call him his son; because he loves her to pieces, even though he isn't his biological father. Yes, they are related due to the fact that he's his uncle (his mother is his sister). But the truth is, he doesn't care; he just loves that someday, this little boy is going to call him 'dad' and that's going to be a title which he cherishes for the best of his life. And he can't wait for Will to experience it, due to the fact that he and Natalie are due in two months, which is something that they spoke about, while they were on shift over the past forty-eight hours.
But right now, that's not what's important; rather, that would be for him to get in bed with April as quietly as possible. But maybe first, he can just take a minute and admire his gorgeous wife; the woman he's proud to call the woman he loves, and the woman he plans on spending the rest of his life loving. But still, he does know that he needs to get in bed so that he doesn't wake her up. Because if he does wake her up, then he knows that it may be a long day; then again, he really doubts that April is really asleep. And that's due to the fact that she's moving a bit more than she normally would, if she were asleep at the moment; instead, she's squirming in bed and may actually just be waiting for him to get in bed with her so that they can hold each other as they fall asleep this morning.
And if that was what April wanted, then Ethan was not going to disappoint; rather, he was going to get in bed with her (as she wants) so that he can hold her in his arms and just take it easy with her. Because at the end of the day, he wants to make sure that she sleeps as much as she can; that's just something that a husband does for his wife after all, and he's really proud that he ahs the ability to call April his wife. She's extremely beautiful, and very smart; and he truly thinks that's one of the main reasons why he was attracted to her in the first place, due to the fact that she's a genius. But right now, he needs to calm down and take it easy; especially since Vincent is sleeping in her crib now, and he doesn't want to wake her up. Nor does he want to wake April up, as she looks very happy here.
But he knows that he will wake her up, as April is not the heaviest of sleepers; so, he's just going to take it as it comes. Whether he wakes his wife up or not, he knows that he doesn't have any control in it. So, he just did what he had to do; and that would be get in bed, so that he can get all comfortable and hold the woman he loves as they sleep in each other's arms tonight.
She could easily feel him join her in bed, that was not something that was hard to do. After all, her husband does make the bed move as he gets in; and he always tugs on the covers, which makes sure that she gets uncovered a bit. Not that she really would ever complain, due to the fact that it's what she wants. She wants to be woken up when Ethan gets in bed, for the simple reason that it allows her to do what she always wants to do with her husband when they're in bed with each other; and that would be to cuddle up to him and hold him close. So, she went ahead and did just that. She crawled into Ethan's arms and laid down on his chest, while Ethan let out a big smile and wrapped his arm around her. "I can only assume that I woke you up when I got in bed?" April agreed.
But as she just said, she doesn't care, because she would much rather be in bed and sleeping in Ethan's arms than be anywhere else. "Oh, I don't care about that Ethan; and you know that." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, smiling as he wrapped his arm around her naked back and then turned his head to look down at the woman he loves; after which, he bent down and smirked as he started to take things nice and slow with the woman he loves. The woman he's proud to call his wife, and the love of his life. "I'm just happy to finally be home with my girls." April smiled as she put her hand on Ethan's chest, before stroking it with her thumb; at the same time, Ethan stroked her back with his thumb and kissed her forehead softly. Something that they both enjoyed as he did it.
"I hope you know that I love it when you do that."
Ethan agreed with April, well aware that his beautiful wife loves it when he kisses her forehead. "I love kissing you all over your body, and I hope you know that too." April agreed with Ethan as he told her that, as she most certainly does know that. After which, she wrapped her arm around him and smirked as she cuddled up to him. But at the same time, she just looked at him before turning her head and looking at Vincent. "You got tested right?" Running his hand up and down April's back, Ethan agreed as he kissed her forehead; after which, he nodded. "Always. I want to protect you and Vincent. By the way, thanks for stepping back to take care of our girl." April agreed with Ethan as he said that, as that was something that she would always do; she will always protect their son, forever.
"Ethan, you have no need to thank me for that. I'm Vincent's mom. And part of being a mom is protecting your child."
Ethan smiled, agreeing with April as he leaned his forehead against hers; after which, he leaned in and kissed the woman he loves once more. The only woman he ever plans on being married to, as he loves the life that they have with each other. "How was shift? You didn't call me around supper time yesterday." Ethan sighed as he ran his fingers up and down her back. "I was in the COVID ward. It's how I could leave so early, because you can only do a certain number of hours; and I ended my hours at 3 AM." April agreed with her husband as he said that. "What time is it anyways?" Ethan smiled as he turned his head and looked at the time. "5:30. I just gave Vincent a bottle." April agreed with her husband as he said that, smiling as she rubbed his chest. After all, she was comfortable.
"Me and Vincent don't deserve you."
Ethan snickered as he heard April say that. "I think it's the other way around my dear, as I am the lucky one here; because my gorgeous wife agreed to take in my nephew-turned-son without any questions." April smiled, while also agreeing with Ethan as she leaned in to kiss him again. "And I would do it all over again, because I love you Ethan." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, madly in love with her as well. "And I love you, forever." Leaning in, April took things nice and slow with the man of her dreams before cuddling up to him again and just laying her head down in the crook of his neck. "I love this feeling of us in bed together." April agreed with Ethan as he told her that, as she felt the same way. "Listen, how about we go to bed? I'm tired still." Ethan agreed, before kissing her forehead.
Choi Primary Bathroom – He ended up sleeping for another couple hours, hours that were very much needed after such a long shift at the hospital; but now, he's awake…but that didn't mean that Ethan woke up on his own. Rather, he woke up to the sound of the shower this morning; and when he opened his eyes, he realized that he wasn't dreaming as April was no longer in his arms. Rather, she was in the shower this morning; meanwhile, Vincent was still fast asleep in his crib. And he was really happy about that, as it meant that his father could do something, which may very well lead to his little guy having a baby brother someday, which is something that Ethan wants more than anything. He wants to have a child with April, a child of his own; but not yet, maybe.
After all, they are not going to say no if they are blessed with a child; they're just going to take it in stride, just like he and his wife are going to take a shower with each other right now ahead of Vincent waking up. After all, this husband wants to spend some quality time with his wife. Quality time that he can only get with her, if they take a sweet shower with each other; and that's exactly what Ethan is about to do, as he set a fresh pair of boxers down on the counter and turned to look at his wife as she ran her fingers through her hair. While at the same time, he made his way over to the shower and proceeded to take off his towel so that he could do exactly what they both want him to do right now, which would be for him to join April in the shower, ahead of Vincent waking up today.
I mean, this father does like to spend time with his wife; and that's exactly what he's going to do, now that the shower is open. He just hopes that April is open to it, which she seems to be based on the smile that he sees on her face. "Oh, so somebody wants something?" Ethan agreed with April as she asked him that, while also walking over to her in the shower; after which, he wrapped his arms around her and smiled as they both held each other close. Meanwhile, April put her hands on Ethan's chest and leaned in to kiss him softly. "I love you." Ethan agreed with April, because he loves her more than anything. "I love you too, and I am so happy to be here with you." April smiled as she heard Ethan say that, before wrapping her arms around his back and cuddling up to him.
At the same time, she leaned in and kissed her dreamy husband softly. "So, he was still asleep right?" Ethan agreed with April as she asked him whether Vincent was still asleep, as he was. He slept right through him getting up, and coming to join her in the shower. "April, take a breather and relax. He's asleep. This father made sure that he was still asleep as he didn't want to be disturbed while he gave his wife some pleasure in the shower." Smirking as she heard Ethan say that, April loved the idea of him giving her some pleasure. "Well, I most certainly am not going to stop you from giving me some pleasure." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, well aware that was the case. After all, April always loves it when they're in the shower with each other; it always happens, and she's happy.
However, it also gives her some time to talk to him without Vincent; time where they can truly concentrate on each other, which is exactly what she wants to do at the moment. "So, Emily texted me yesterday." Ethan was a bit surprised as he heard April say that, as it's very rare that they hear anything from Emily. "Ok?" April sighed. "She asked how things were, and how Vincent was. I told her he was safe, and that he was fine; then she asked me for a picture, and I just wasn't sure what you wanted." Ethan sighed as he heard April say that. "I think we should send her a picture of her nephew. Did she call him her son though?" April shook her head. "No, she called him her nephew. It think that's why it took so long for her to reach out, as she had to come to terms." Ethan agreed.
After all, it is a big change. "I understand. I mean, she did carry him for nine months." April agreed with her loving husband as he said that, while wrapping her arms around his back; meanwhile, Ethan wrapped his arms around her and smiled as he leaned in and kissed the Woman he loves. "I think we need to do it, and we just need to figure out a relationship that works between all of us." April agreed with Ethan, as that was right. "I'll follow your lead." Ethan shook his head as he heard April say that, as that's not what she's going to do; she has equal say here, as his wife and Vincent's mom. "You're my wife, and Vince's mom. Biological or not, you're his mom. We're his parents, and we're in this together." April agreed with Ethan as he said that, before leaning in and kissing the man she loves.
After which, she smiled as she felt him get nice and close to her; while at the same time, he also pushed her against the wall. That was, until they heard Vince call out for them. "Seriously, now?" April laughed as she put her hands on Ethan's face. "I got him." Ethan agreed with his wife as she said that, before leaning in and kissing her softly. "I shouldn't be long, I already showered earlier." April agreed with Ethan as he said that, before leaning in and kissing him softly one last time. "I love you." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, madly in love with his wife as well. "I love you too." Backing up afterwards, Ethan smiled as he went ahead and let his wife leave so that she could go take care of their little guy; meanwhile, Ethan proceeded to finish up in the shower this morning.
Walking out of the washroom this morning after finishing in the shower, Ethan smiled as he found himself looking at April in bed as she sat there with Vince while breastfeeding him. And yes, you heard that right; April is breastfeeding him, as he's their son. She is his one and only mother, and she wanted to have the bond that a mother has with her son; so, she found a way to breastfeed him, and they both love it. Especially him, as he gets to watch his wife hold their son and feed him with her own body. But at times, April does find it creepy. "You know, it is quite stalkerish when you do that." Ethan smiled as he heard April say that, while also walking over to his dresser; after which, he proceeded to hang up his towel and look at his family. "So, what are we doing today?" April sighed.
"Honestly, I just have so much on my mind. I am still trying to figure out what I want to do."
Ethan got a bit concerned as he heard his wife say that, before sighing. "You mean when it comes to work?" April agreed, as that was exactly what she was talking about. "Ethan, you can't really expect me not to do anything. I feel like I would be abusing Matt and Gabby's generosity." Ethan agreed with April as she said that, as that's something that he loves about her, her big heart. And that's something that he plans on telling her, as he walked up to her and then sat down on the edge of the bed. "And that's one of the many reasons that I fell in love with you in the first place." Turning his head, Ethan smiled as he put his hand on the back of Vince's head and then proceeded to kiss his forehead. "Hi Vincent. You enjoying that?" Smiling as she heard her husband say that, April looked at him.
After which, Ethan turned his head and smiled as he leaned in and kissed April softly. "I love you. To the moon and back." April smiled as she heard Ethan say that, as she loves him just as much; if not more, due to the fact that he's the bravest man she's ever known. I mean her husband is a real-life hero as a war veteran. "I love you too, forever. After all, mommy does love a veteran." Ethan then went to play with her. "And who might this veteran be? I'll set him straight that you already have a veteran husband." April laughed as she heard Ethan say that, before putting her hand on his face; after which, she kissed him softly and just took things nice and slow with him. "See you when you have breakfast for me." Ethan agreed with his wife as she said that, while getting up to go do just that.
To go out to the kitchen, and make him and April some breakfast, which is something that another father (and fellow veteran) just started doing this morning.
