Chapter Three Hundred and Thirty-One
Matt's Ongoing Mental Health Challenges Resurface, Part 2
Casey Primary Suite – He was currently in the midst of walking around their room in his tight boxers that he was wearing under his wet suit, as he was now in the midst of once again rejoining the woman he loves. But first, he had to put his wet suit outside to dry. And that was exactly where he was headed, until he overheard Gabby speaking to her mom in the washroom. "I hope you know just how much I appreciate this mom, you watching the boys really helps us; especially right now." Not wanting to interrupt their conversation, Matt thought about just walking past; at least, until he heard what Gabby said next. "I just feel like me and Matt need to really talk, especially since I've been a bit missing a few signs." Doing her daughter's hair, Camila Vergel Dawson was a bit perplexed.
After all, she had no idea what her daughter was talking about; but that didn't mean that she wasn't going to find out, as she was going to do just that. "Gabby, what are you talking about?" Taking a breath, Gabby sighed as she turned to look up at her mom. "It's Matt's mental health. I think he's been keeping things from me." Camila got worried when she heard Gabby say that. "Gabby, why didn't you tell me? I would've spoken to him and be the go between for you guys." Gabby sighed. "Mom, it's already hard enough as it is for him to talk to me about it; do you really think that I want to expose him to even more trauma, of having to re-explain everything in detail so that you can help him? He has a lot of…" And that was when Matt decided to interject the right word. "Trauma?"
Turning their heads when they heard Matt, Gabby took a breath as she was not proud that Matt overheard all of that. "I think the right word that you were looking for is trauma, as I've dealt with a lot of traumatic experiences in my past." Gabby sighed, but ultimately agreed with her husband as that's the right word. But at the same time, she hates the fact that he caught her talking to her mom about it as she doesn't know how much he wants to share with her. "Matt, I'm sorry if you didn't want to share much with my mom." Shaking his head, Matt smiled as he went ahead and leaned against the entry to their bathroom. "It's okay Gabby, it really is. I know that you need someone to talk to as well, and I'm glad you chose your mom." Gabby was a bit confused as she heard Matt say that.
After which, she turned to look at him; and that's due to the fact that she would've thought that he would instead want her to talk to his mom. "Are you sure? I mean, maybe I can talk to your mom instead?" Matt shook his head as Gabby asked him that, before making his way over to her. He then put his hands on her shoulders and went to give her a massage; after which, he bent down and kissed the top of her head. "Listen, I'm going to go lay down and check on the girls. How about you talk to your mom…and we can talk when you're in bed with me." Looking up at Matt as he said that, Gabby smiled as she truly does love her husband more than anything in the entire world. "I hope you know just how much I love you, and how much I want to help you." Matt agreed with Gabby, as he did.
He knew it better than anybody that she loves him, and that she wants to support him in whatever way she can. "Gabby, of course I know that. And you never need to believe otherwise, not when you're the best wife and mother in the entire world; I love you, and I am so proud to call you my wife. But you really just need to take it easy and relax." Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that, well aware that was the case as she proceeded to grab his hand; meanwhile, Matt turned to look at Camila. "Did anybody feed the girls while I was at the beach?" Gabby smiled. "I fed and played with them for a bit before going to the beach, but they're still tired from the hospital. Baby, I got everything under control; the only thing you need to do, is go lay down in bed." Matt agreed.
After which, he bent down and kissed the top of her head once more (while also whispering to her). "I love you. Just take a breath and relax. Come see me in bed so that we can talk, I promise that we'll be okay." Putting her hand on top of Matt's, Gabby smiled as she's happy right now; happy to have him as her husband, and just happy in general. "No sports." Matt sighed. "They cancelled games for a bit, remember babe?" Gabby agreed with Matt, remembering that now as he proceeded to walk out of the washroom; after which, Camila looked at her daughter…whom she could tell was still quite worried about her husband. "Gabby, you know that you can always talk to me; just like Matt said, you need to do whatever you can for your health." Gabby agreed with her mom and took a breath.
After which, she just thought of something. "I guess what worries me, is that he had to go up a dose mom." Camila was confused as she went to brush her hair. "What are you talking about sweetie?" Gabby just looked at her mom. "He had to go up a dose in his medication." Camila then understood what her daughter meant, and agreed with her; after all, that is a significant change that they have to deal with now. "And have you seen a change?" Gabby sighed as she heard her mom ask her that. "I haven't been paying attention enough, and I hate that; I feel like I may have missed the signs again, just like I did when he was first dealing with this. It's like how he was when we first had the boys, and when he first got the diagnosis." Camila agreed with her daughter, before signing.
After all, she hates to see her daughter in such a state of despair; because that last thing that she wants for her and Matt is more challenges, which just seems to be exactly what they continue to be dealt with. But at the same time, they had to expect this; because mental health is an evolving thing, and you can't just tell something to stop changing just due to the fact that you're already dealing with a lot. "Gabby, you need to just keep doing your best; Matt doesn't expect you to know everything, and he most certainly doesn't want you to overdo it. Just remember that you're there to support him, not to solve it." Gabby agreed with her mom as she said that, well aware that was the case. "That doesn't mean that I don't wish I could solve it, because I would if I could." Camila agreed.
After all, she would love that for Matt; she doesn't want to see her son-in-law to have to deal with mental health issues. But unfortunately, that's exactly what he has to deal with in his life; and it's all related to his previous life, the life that he had before the money. "Honestly, I can't believe that I'm going to say this but…money really has changed him." Turning around to look at her mom, Gabby was shocked. "MOM! How can you say that? Matt is still the same man that I fell in love with years ago, and you know that." Camila sighed as she looked at her daughter. "I mean for the better Gabby. I mean, imagine how much more PTSD he could have if he were still in those stressful situations; if he were still fighting fires, and you had four kids." Gabby thought about it and agreed.
After all, him still being a firefighter would without a doubt make his PTSD worse each and every day. "I know what you mean now, and I'm sorry for snapping." Camila shook her head as she heard Gabby say that, as she has no reason to apologize. "Gabby, I should apologize for saying it wrong; the way I said it was really insensitive, and I need to remember that. But at the same time, you have to remember that the last thing I want to do is insult Matt; nor would I ever insult him, when I have a son dealing with mental health as well." Gabby agreed with her mom, as that is something that Matt and Antonio share; other than their mutual love for her of course, they share that they are both dealing with mental health issues. And the truth is, her brother has been a big help to her husband.
And she's truly grateful for that. "Mom, I hope you know that me and Matt will always be forever grateful for all the help you've given us, right?" Camila agreed with her daughter as she asked her that, as that was something that she already knew; she knew that they were grateful for all the help that she's given them and will always be grateful for it. "Gabby, of course I know that. I mean, not that I can really complain; as I have this life with you now." Gabby snickered as she heard her mom say that, as that most certainly is the truth. "You most certainly do have a cozy life, now that we have a cozy life." Camila agreed with her daughter and smiled at her. "And I get to do everything that I want, which is to take care of my beautiful grandchildren." Gabby snickered and agreed with her.
After all, she and Matt most certainly do make beautiful babies. "Me and Matt do make beautiful babies." Camila shook her head as Gabby said that, before going to brush her hair some more; after which, she looked at her in the mirror. "Be lucky that I love you so much, that I don't threaten to go live with your brother rather than stay here so that I can take care of the boys for you." Gabby laughed and shook her head as she heard her mom say that, well aware that she'd never do that. "Mom, we both know that you'd never do that, because you would rather be here with the boys and our girls any day." Camila snickered as she heard her daughter say that, as that most certainly is the truth. "Oh, that most certainly is the truth." Gabby smiled as she heard her mom say that.
While at the same time, she also wants to take a moment to thank her. "By the way, thanks for playing nice with dad. I know things are still rough between you guys, for what he did to you when he announced your divorce; but I really do like how you put that aside for the kids." Camila agreed with her daughter, as that wasn't something that she had to worry about. "Gabby, me, and your father will always come together for the things that matter; and those things are our children, our son-in-law, and our grandchildren. Regardless of what happened between us, we know that we need to support our children when their family is in a rough time." Gabby smiled as she heard her mom say that, as she really has stepped up and she really appreciates it; her entire family has really stepped up.
When they needed them the most, they stepped up; and they made sure that everything was okay, and that she was protected from the outside world. And unfortunately, that still needs to happen right now during COVID. "I'm glad that you decided to live with me and Matt, because I really don't know what I'd do without you being here mom." Camila smiled as she heard Gabby say that. "You'd be in the same position that you find yourself in right now. A successful businesswoman, and an even better wife and mother; I hope you know that's what you are Gabby." Gabby agreed with her mom as she said that, as that most certainly is exactly what she wants to be. "And that's the life that I love to live with my husband, and our four kids." Camila agreed with her daughter, smiling at her.
After which, she returned to the task at hand; and that would be to finish helping her daughter with her hair, which she really thinks is just for her to get some stress out. But at the same time, she's going to have to ask Gabby a question. "Would you trust me to cut your hair?" Turning her head, Gabby smiled as she looked at her mom. "Maybe in the future, I definitely would. Mom, I trust you more than anybody." Matt then went to yell out. "EXCUSE ME!" Gabby snickered as she went to yell back. "IT'S A FIGURE OF SPEECH!" Matt agreed with his wife, while Camila looked down at her daughter; after which, she went ahead and kissed the top of her head to help her relax. That way, she can breathe ahead of joining Matt in bed where they're going to talk for a while.
Closing the door to their room behind her shortly after letting her mom out, Gabby took a breath as he looked at the man she loves; the man who basically just yelled at her and her mom while she was going her hair, and that was something that she didn't appreciate. She's allowed to talk to her mom, and it wasn't at all related to what he was saying. "Okay, first of all; you are going to shut up and listen to me if you want to touch me in what I'm wearing…" (Gabby is currently just wearing a robe from when she was with her mom). "…because if not, I will keep my robe on." Matt snickered as he heard Gabby say that, while also looking at the woman he loves. "Sure, because you don't want to take that off and cuddle up to me in your lingerie instead." Gabby smiled, as she really did.
And that was why she was going to take off her robe, regardless of what she just said. It's due to the fact that she loves it when they cuddle up to each other, but first she needs to get in bed; especially after what she just revealed to Matt, as she walked over to her side of the bed. "WOAH." Smirking as she looked at Matt, Gabby agreed as she went ahead and proceeded to hang her robe up. "Now you can see why I was wearing a robe with my mom, as I was not going to show this off to her." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, well aware that was the case. "I'm glad you didn't, because then she might not have approved." Gabby smiled. "Last time I checked, we didn't care if she approved; we only care if my brother approves, as that's who you asked for the blessing." Matt nodded.
After which, he snickered as he thought of the reason why he specifically asked her brother's blessing. "What are you laughing about baby?" Matt smiled. "Just why I asked your brother, rather than asking your dad." Gabby agreed with him as he said that, before opening the covers on her side of the bed; after which, she climbed in and just smiled at her man as she was glad that they were going to talk about this. Especially since it's always been a topic that's been on her mind, something that she's wanted to talk to Matt about. "Do you mind if I ask why you asked Antonio instead of my dad?" Matt agreed, as he extended his hand and smiled at the woman he loves. "It's due to the fact that Antonio was the one that knew me the best, and because he scares me the most." Gabby laughed.
After all, that was funny. "I'm serious. I'm more scared of your brother, than your father." Gabby nodded. "Yeah." Matt just looked at his wife. "Your brother is a silver gloves boxer." Gabby then realized what he was talking about. "Why do you think I asked your brother of talking care of Severide sometimes?" Gabby smiled as she heard Matt say that, while getting close and close to him in their bed; after which, she wrapped her arms around him and cuddled up to him in bed. Meanwhile, Matt put his hand on her arm and slipped his own arm under her head. "God, I am so glad that we're back in bed with each other." Gabby agreed with Matt as she put both of her hands on his face, while Matt wrapped his arms around her and smiled as they both held each other close today.
And honestly, this is exactly what the couple want to do; they want to hold each other close, and just cuddle up to each other in bed. It's the most comfortable thing in the entire world, and they are both extremely happy when it comes to what they're doing right now. Just holding each other close, as they relax in bed together; but at the same time, he also knows that they need to talk. "So listen, I want to apologize." Gabby was a bit confused as she heard Matt say that, unsure of what her husband needs to apologize for. "Hey, what do you need to apologize for?" Matt sighed. "I left you in the middle of your nap to go surfing, without a note." Gabby shook her head as she proceeded to wrap her arms around his neck, while also slipping her legs in between his legs this afternoon.
At the same time, Matt wrapped his arm around her back and put his hand on it. "Matt, you told me where you were going; you left a note, and you also told my mom where you went." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that before smiling as he ran his hand up and down her back, which then prompted him to kiss the woman he loves more than anything in the entire world. "I hope you know that I love you more than anything, and the last thing I wanted you to feel was that I couldn't talk to you." Gabby shook her head as she heard Matt say that, as that was not how she felt. "Hey, I will never feel that way baby; I know that you always feel like you can talk to me, and I am so glad that's the case. Because I want you to talk to me whenever you feel like you need to talk to me." Matt agreed.
After which, he tugged her body against his and just ran his hand up and down her body; which is something that they both wanted him to do, as it is very sexy. So sexy, that it led to Gabby kissing the love of her life. "I love you Matt." Matt agreed with Gabby, as he loves her too; but at the same time, he also knew that they had to talk. "I know that we need to talk." Gabby agreed with Matt, as they do need to talk. "And I think we should start, because I want to help you baby." Matt agreed with Gabby, as that was exactly what she's already doing. "You're already helping me, simply by holding me like this." Gabby agreed with Matt, and smiled as she heard him say that. "Now, are you going to talk to me?" Matt agreed with Gabby, before taking a breath as he rolled over onto his back.
While at the same time, he brought Gabby with him as he wanted her on his chest; he wanted her to cuddle up to him, and just hold him for a while. And that most certainly is exactly what Gabby did the moment she was on Matt's chest, as she was really happy; after which, Matt grabbed the sheets and proceeded to tug them up on top of the both of them so that they were comfortable. "There, now this is perfect." Gabby snickered as she felt Matt move his hand to her leg. But first, she decided to sit up and move to take off his dress shirt; which she was only wearing around her mom, when she would much rather be topless. And that's exactly what she is now, she's topless and laying down on Matt's toned chest. "Oh, now I can approve of this." Gabby smirked and agreed with him.
After which, she bent down and kissed the man she loves once more. "I love you." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, well aware that was the case as he moved his hand to her neck; after which, he started to take things nice and slow with the woman he loves more than anything in the entire world. "I love you Gabby." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, as she loves him too. "I look you too Matt, and we need to talk now." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, running his hand up and down her back. "I want to say this first. I am not getting my meds changed again." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, already well aware that was the case; plus, he just changed them and she feels like they need to give this dosage a chance anyways.
"We need to give this dosage a chance anyways, as we haven't really had a chance to see if it works for you baby."
Matt agreed with Gabby, as that most certainly is exactly what they need to do; they need to make sure that this is the right dosage, even though he already thinks it is. "I just wish it worked faster." Gabby agreed. "You were also at the hospital, where there was less on your mind I found. You were just thinking about me and the girls. Now, we have all of the kids and the health crisis." Matt agreed with Gabby as he ran his hand up and own her back, before taking a breath as he turned his head and kissed her forehead softly. After all, that was exactly what they both wanted right now. They both wanted him to kiss her forehead, and just hold her in his arms. It's the best feeling in the entire world, and they are both incredibly happy in the moment; especially when Andy just joined them.
And of course, it's not like Matt could just ignore that he joined them on the bed; so, he moved his hand to the top of Andy's head and proceeded to rub it (just like he wanted him to do). And boy did that make him a happy dog, as he laid down on their bed. "You know, I didn't hear Andy bark. Did he bark while I was sleeping?" Matt agreed with Gabby as he wrapped his arm around her, before pressing his lips to her forehead softly. "He did it quietly, as I have been working with a trainer to change that." Gabby shook her head. "He should wake me up too, as I want to help you. And I mean that Matt, we're in this together." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, well aware that was the case. "I know we are, and I appreciate that more than anything baby." Gabby smiled and agreed.
After which, she slipped up his chest some more and proceeded to kiss him softly. "I love you also know that I will always make sure that you take it easy and relax. I want you to deal with this with me baby, and I don't want you to leave me in the dark; remember when you did that at the start of your journey? How hard it was on you, and our marriage?" Matt sighed, and agreed with Gabby as he did remember that. "I just didn't want to have it put too much stress on you, when I was already dealing with a lot." Gabby agreed with Matt, appreciating that he did that for her. "I really appreciate that Matt, I really do; and I am not going to talk about it more. Not when you need to talk to me baby, please let me in so that I can help you." Matt sighed as he ran his hand up and down her back.
That's when he decided to tell Gabby what's been happening lately, how he feels like he always gets better a bit; and then goes back. "Okay, I just don't want you to feel offended when I say this." Gabby laughed. "Well, that's a great way to start." Matt sighed as he turned his head and looked into Gabby's eyes; and that's when she knew that he was serious. "Here, I'm going to lay down next to you." Matt agreed, while watching as Gabby rolled over onto her side; after which, he did the same thing and got close to her. Wrapping his arm around her, Matt smiled as he brought her against his chest and kissed her softly. "So, here's the thing. You remember how I changed my meds?" Gabby agreed with Matt. "Well, the truth is, this wasn't the first time." Gabby was shocked.
"Excuse me?"
Matt nodded. "Uhm…I went down a dose before we had the girls."
