A.N. — Today begins back-to-back days of first-year female students at UA. For once, 1-B gets the top billing, as this mysterious character has her birthday a day before a much more approachable fan favorite. Happy birthday, Reiko Yanagi!

Reiko viewed her hero name Emily as accomplishing two goals: it made her Poltergeist quirk seem less intimidating (and more obfuscated) to outsiders, and it also disguised her timid nature with a cute moniker. Sure, it might be a bit of false advertising, but wasn't the horror genre all about deception? Reiko knew all the tropes and could play to them, but subverting them made her unpredictable. A good jump scare could always come in handy. But Emily was also an homage, for those in the know. Anyone who recognized its source was someone Reiko knew she'd come to like.
