Chapter Three Hundred and Forty-Eight
Switching it Up
Casey Living Room – The groceries were unpacked, Andy was taken care of, and they were alone; and that was all thanks to his mother, who decided to go spend a couple days at his sister's place so that he and Gabby could get some time with each other. Time that they've been craving and have just been wanting to enjoy since they moved home to Chicago; and that's exactly what they're in the midst of doing right now, they're enjoying the quality alone time that they're getting with each other. But they aren't spending it in their bedroom but are instead going to spend it in the living room; and that's so that it's easier for Matt to let Andy out to go to the bathroom, as he won't have to go as far. Rather, he'll just have to walk over to the door in his boxers; just like he's in the midst of doing at the moment, as he made his way over to the couch with some drinks for him and Gabby. And let's just say that Gabby loved it.
I mean, what's better than the sight of your husband walking over to you in his boxers; while also bringing you some drinks, which is very sexy. But it's not as sexy as what's going to happen for the rest of the day, and that would be them just holding each other close as they cuddle; heck, Gabby doesn't even know whether they're going to take a bath. But that'll all depend on just how comfortable she gets here with Matt. Because if she gets too comfortable, she may ask him to risk his back just so that they can stay here; and the truth was, Matt was okay with that due to the fact that it was a nice change. And even better, they only have her phone with them; something that they told her mother, that way she knows which phone to call in case they need to reach them about the kids. "No phone, right?" Matt laughed as he walked up to the woman he loves with her drink, only to extend his hand to give it to her.
"I promise, I am not the one that's going to have a phone; because I don't want to work, when I am getting time with my wife."
Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, as that most certainly is something that she's grateful for. "You want to lay down under me?" Matt smiled as he looked at his beautiful wife, before leaning over and kissing her softly. "Maybe in a minute. First, I need to drink this; then I can lay down. How about we just sit down, and we can talk about how nice it was to run into our friends." Gabby agreed with Matt as he asked her that, before watching him sit down and feeling him wrap his arm around her; and boy was that comfortable as she held her glass up. "To some quality husband-and-wife time ahead of your birth." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that. "Now, that's something that I can toast to." Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that, smiling as she proceeded to turn her head and kissed him as they toasted to the quality time that they were going to enjoy with each other in the living room.
Yet at the same time, she couldn't help but wonder just what he gave her as a drink. "What did you pour for us?" Matt smiled as he looked at Gabby. "I got us some wine. You need some in you, so that you can relax for a bit babe." Gabby sighed as she heard her husband say that, before looking at him. "I wish it were that easy." Matt agreed with Gabby, as he knew it better than anybody just how stressed she is at the time; so much so, that he decided to turn his head and kiss her forehead softly. "I hope you know that you can always talk to me babe." Gabby agreed with Matt, well aware that she can talk to her husband. "Heck, are you sure that you want to sit down here Gabby? If you want to lay down in bed instead, we can do that. After all, we both know that you're always more relaxed in there." Gabby took a breath as Matt asked her that question. "Can we stay here for a bit? Just switch it up." Matt agreed.
After all, he's more than okay with the two of them holding each other close if it means that he can take it easy with the woman he loves. "I like that idea, and I can see that you have something on your mind that you need to talk to me about; something that you want to talk to me about, somewhere other than in bed." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that. "I think it'd just be easier to keep the stressful conversations out here." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that. "You stressed right now?" Gabby took a breath, due to the fact that she did feel a little bit of stress (unfortunately). She's just surprised that she's being so open, and honest about the entire thing. "Yeah, I guess I am. I just…" Matt then proceeded to grab the back of Gabby's head, before bringing her lips to his and kissing her softly. "Hey, no need to explain. Let's just drink our wine, and then we can hold each other close." Gabby agreed with Matt.
After all, that's exactly what she wants to do. She wants to enjoy her wine, and then she wants to just hold him as they talk; while they also cuddle up to each other here on the couch, one of her favorite things to do.
Walking into the living room for the second time, Matt smiled as he came in to see Gabby looking very sexy as she stood at the couch; yet at the same time, he couldn't help but wonder if she was just wearing something even sexier for him. More specifically, just some underwear and one of his dress shirts as that was what it looked like she was wearing at the moment. It looked like she was just wearing one of his dress shirts, as well as her underwear. And boy was that a turn on, as that most certainly was what he hoped that Gabby was wearing for him at the moment; but he needs to make sure by asking her. "That one of my dress shirts?" Looking down, Gabby smirked as it was one of his dress shirts. "Oh, I guess it is." Matt smiled as he heard Gabby say that, loving that it was his shirt. Especially when it looks really sexy on her, extremely sexy; so much so, that he doesn't even want to call it his shirt anymore.
"I'm not sure whether I want to call that my shirt anymore then."
Gabby as confused as Matt said that, while also watching him walk up to her. "What are you talking about baby?" Matt smirked as he looked at Gabby. "You look really sexy as you wear this shirt, so maybe you should be the one that wears it all the time." Gabby smiled as she heard Matt say that, while also watching as he walked up to her; after which, he put his hands on her hips and held her close to him. Meanwhile, she put her hands on his chest and smirked as she leaned up and kissed the man she loves more than anything in the entire world. "God, you are such a tease." Matt agreed with Gabby as he proceeded to kiss her softly once more. "I think you're the real tease at the moment baby." Gabby agreed with Matt, clearly able to see that he was quite turned on due to the fact that she was wearing one of his shirts. "Do you like it?" Matt agreed with Gabby, as he most certainly does love what she was wearing right now.
But still, there is something sexier that he would much rather have. "As much as I like it, I think I want to have something else instead." Gabby agreed with Matt as she stepped close to the man she loves and put her hands on his chest; after which, she leaned up and kissed the man she loves more than anything in the entire world. "Well, I think that can happen with your help." Matt smirked as he went ahead and proceeded to grab the buttons on his shirt so that he can undo it for Gabby, as that was exactly what they both wanted to have happen right now; Gabby wanted him to grab the buttons and undo the shirt, so that it could be on the ground. And frankly, that's exactly where it belongs at the moment. That way, the two of them can get very comfortable with each other on the couch; because at the end of the day, that's where they both want to be at the moment. Comfortable on the couch together.
They just want to hold each other and cuddle up to one another in the best way possible, which would be for them both to be topless, and just holding each other. "Listen, I'm going to wait here. Can you make sure that the fireplace is on?" Matt agreed with Gabby as she asked him to go check that the fireplace is on, before walking away to go do just that; while at the same time, Gabby slapped his ass and went ahead and smirked. Meanwhile, Matt turned around and looked at his girl. "You owe me for that later." Gabby agreed with Matt as she went ahead and proceeded to sit on the couch in a way that was very sexy, while Matt went to turn on the fireplace as he wanted to have it running during their time here in the living room; and that soon made him realize that maybe he can do something else, which would be to turn off the lights in here. That way, it's much more romantic than anybody can know.
Walking back over to the couch after dimming the lights, Matt smirked as he walked over to Gabby and looked down at her; after all, that was exactly what she wanted him to do. She wants to have her husband walk over to her, and just give her something that they both wanted. And that would be for him to kiss her. And if that's what Gabby wanted, then Matt most certainly was going to do just that; he was going to kiss the woman he loves, now that he was standing in front of her and leaning over her. Meanwhile, Gabby put her hands on his face as she took things nice and slow with the man she loves more than anything in the entire world. "I love you." Matt agreed with Gabby as she told him that she loves him, which is something that he most certainly already knew. "I already knew that, but for what it's worth; I love you too." Gabby agreed with Matt, kissing the man she loves more than anything.
"Lay down, please."
Matt agreed with Gabby. "Okay, you need to move a bit then." Gabby agreed with Matt, doing just that for him; after which, she watched as he laid down on the couch ahead of the two of them cuddling up to each other. (Which was something that Matt was ready to do the moment he laid down on the couch). And he showed her that, by extending his hand and motioning for Gabby to join him on his chest; and he wanted it to happen without a delay, because she is looking so sexy as she just sits there topless. "Oh, you like the fact that I'm topless; don't you my handsome husband?" Matt smiled as Gabby asked him that, as he most certainly does like the fact that she's topless. "Best delayed Valentine's Day ever." Gabby agreed with Matt as she came to lay down in his arms, which is exactly what Matt wanted her to do; he wanted her to lay down on his chest and cuddle up to him here on the couch.
So much so, that he was already ready for everything that he needed to do the moment she laid down; because it wasn't long before the blankets covered them both here on the couch, not that Gabby could really complain as this is exactly what they both want to do at the moment. They want to hold each other close, as they cuddle on the couch of their Chicago living room. And she was just made even more comfortable as she felt Matt wrap his arm around her back and press his lips to her forehead. "Now this is comfortable." Matt agreed with Gabby, as he was comfortable too; he'll always be comfortable as long as he has Gabby in his arms. "Oh, I know what you mean. Plus, I love the feeling of your topless body on my chest." Turning her head to look up at Matt, Gabby smiled as she knew that was the case. "Oh, I most certainly do know that. Do you really think that I don't already know that baby?" Matt agreed.
I mean, how could she not know how to tease him. "I mean, you do really know how to tease me." Gabby smirked, agreeing with Matt as she most certainly does know how to tease her husband. "And you have to admit, I'm pretty good at teasing you." Matt nodded as he felt Gabby lay her head down on his chest once more, which then led him to wrap his arm around her back; putting his hand up afterwards, Matt smiled as he waited for her to grab his hand (which she did the woman she could). After which, they both intertwined their fingers as they both just laid there and held each other close. "God, now this is perfect. Just the two of us, holding each other in our new Chicago home." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, before nuzzling her head into the crook of his neck, which then led to Matt realizing something, which is just how much more relaxed Gabby feels right now.
Well, at least in comparison to when they're out in the city. "Ok. I am going to ask you a question, and I want a real answer." Turning her head to look up at Matt, Gabby was confused. "What's that baby?" Matt sighed as he looked at his wife. "Is there a reason why you're much less tense here at home, compared to when we're out in the city? Or is it just COVID?" Taking a breath, Gabby sighed as she was hoping that Matt didn't notice…but she also should've known that he would notice, because this is Matt after all. He notices everything, and there was no way that he wouldn't realize that she was much more relaxed here at home, compared to when they're out in public. "I guess, it's due to the fact that I'm always worried that we're going to run into her." Matt sighed as he looked down at Gabby, as he hated that was her reality; that she was worrying about running into Sylvie every time that she goes out in public.
"I wish there was something that I could do so that you didn't have to feel that way baby."
Gabby sighed, because there was one; but it wasn't something that she wanted to talk about…because of what it might make her husband think, and that would be that she's jealous; but Matt also knew that there was something that he could do, but she just wasn't telling her. So that means that he needs to get it out of her. "Okay, there's something that I can do for you; you just don't want to tell me, so how about you spare us the silence baby?" Gabby sighed as Matt said that, as that's exactly what she wants to do. She wants to spare them the silence and tell him everything. Yet at the same time, she also knows that this is going to be awkward. "I just don't want you to feel like I don't trust you, or that you're going to be faithful to me." Matt sighed as he looked down at his wife, because that will always be the truth. "That will always be a fact Gabby." Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that.
"And that was why I prefaced this with that statement, because this isn't how I wanted you to feel."
Matt agreed with his beautiful wife as she said that, before kissing her forehead again. "But one thing that I would like, is if we go out together here in Chicago." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, before running his hand up and down her back; and the truth was, that was something that he can do for Gabby. He can promise her that they'll go out in Chicago together, rather than have him go out in public without her; well, only to a certain extent. "Okay, I can only promise you that for like errands and stuff. I can't promise you that when it comes to official work, as I am trying to figure something out with the City." Gabby was confused as she heard Matt say that. "You are?" Matt agreed. "They want to do a ceremony where I ceremonially hand them the keys to the ambulances, and they thank me…and I actually just got news." Gabby was confused as she heard Matt say that, while also stroking his chest.
"And what might that be?"
Matt smiled as he ran his hand up and down her back, before kissing the top of her head. "They want to give me the key to the city." Gabby was surprised as she heard Matt say that. "What? Baby…" Matt sighed. "I don't know what I'm going to do." Looking up at her husband, Gabby smiled. "Baby, you're going to accept it." Matt bit his lip. "I just don't think it's the right time, not when we don't even know if the ambulances are going to work yet. I want to just give it time." Gabby thought about it and agreed with her husband. "Well, at least they aren't doing it entirely with our fleet, and they have some of the originals." Matt agreed. "Ambulance 61 is only our ambulance, and they have put the other one in storage as a spare if ours fails." Gabby shook her head. "It's not going to fail baby, I promise that it's going to do a great job; we both know that, as it looks really good in the videos we have." Matt agreed with Gabby.
After which, he turned his head and kissed the top of her head (while also seeing Andy get up and make his way over to them); which then led to Matt putting his hand on top of Andy's head and stroking it with his thumb. "Hi buddy, you happy to be home? Yeah, I think you are." Gabby smiled as she proceeded to tug the little blankets up on top of the both of them, as they both enjoyed some quiet time with each other; yet at the same time, Matt could just tell that there was something else that Gabby wanted to do. And that would be to head up to their room. "You sure you want to stay here baby? I can just see you tugging the covers up. You okay?" Gabby agreed with Matt as she finished adjusting the covers, while also feeling Matt wrap his arm around her back; meanwhile, she put her hand on his arm once more. "Yeah, just getting cozy with my man right now." Matt smiled, agreeing with Gabby.
After which, he turned his head and proceeded to kiss her forehead softly. "You know, as worried as I was in coming home to Chicago; I think that things are really turning out a lot better than I originally expected they would turn out, and I'm glad that's the case." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, as that's exactly how she's feeling when it comes to it. "I feel the same way, and I am so glad that we're on the same page." Turning his head, Matt looked down at his wife. "Hey, that's something you never need to worry about Gabby. For the rest of our lives, that's how we're going to make decisions. We're going to make them together, as a team." Gabby agreed with Matt as he told her that, well aware that was the case. "Well, as much as we can. We both know that can't always be the case." Matt agreed with his wife. "Yeah, like on the big stuff." Gabby smiled again, especially as he kissed her forehead softly.
But there was still one thing that didn't make her smile, and that was the sound of her phone. "Can you check who it is?" Reaching over, Matt smiled as he went to see it was a text from Herrmann.
'It was nice seeing you guys today. Stay safe, and just know you can always call us if you need anything. We can drop it off.'
Smiling as he read the text message, he went ahead and set Gabby's phone back down. "What was it?" Matt then went to tell Gabby just what it was, as he wrapped his arm around her back and turned his head to kiss her forehead once more. "Herrmann. He just texted saying that it was nice to see us today and told us to stay safe; and he also said that we can always call if we need anything, and that they can drop it off." Gabby smiled, as that most certainly something that she liked the idea of. "Well, I am not going to deny that I love that idea." Matt smiled as he turned his head and kissed her forehead softly once more. "Well, I think we both know that our friends will all help us." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, before thinking about something. "By the way, I've been meaning to ask you about something." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that. "And what might that be?" Gabby sighed.
After all, this might not be a question that Matt wants to answer; but she still feels like it's her job to ask him the question, just so that he can talk to her about it if he needs to. "I just want to know what you're thinking about Severide leaving the company, and just what you're really thinking about. I know that you said that you aren't mad that he decided to leave, but…" Matt sighed as Gabby said that. "Yeah, I do have a bunch more mixed feelings than you think." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, before going ahead with asking him what he means. "Want to tell me what you mean by that?" Matt agreed with Gabby, as he most certainly does want to tell her. "I guess…I like the fact that our friendship is going to be better, and the business won't come in between us." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that. "I'm happy that the same is the case for us." Turning his head, Matt looked at the woman he's crazy for.
After which, he proceeded to tell her something that she needs to remember. "Gabby, this business is nothing compared to what we have. What we have is forever, and much more important to me; and the same goes for the money, because this is the life that I want to live. A life with you, as your husband, and the kids' daddy." Gabby smiled as she heard Matt say that and boy did she love the sound of how Matt said that; it just made her heart skip a beat, and how he said that was absolutely perfect. "God, you really do know how to make a girl blush…and want to have sex with her husband." Matt laughed as he heard Gabby say that, unaware that was what he was in the midst of doing. "I didn't know that was what I was doing right now." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, well aware that was the case. "Well, it is. And I love that you can flirt with me, without even knowing that you're flirting with me." Matt smiled.
After all, this is what he wants to do right now; he wants to hold his wife close to him, and just concentrate on her. "God, I am so glad that this is what we're in the midst of doing. This is just what I want to do right now." Gabby nodded as Matt said that, well aware that was the case. "I know, and that's why we're doing it right now. But back to the topic that we were on. I just…I want to know what you're thinking when it comes to Severide leaving the company." Matt agreed. "Well, that's where the complicated part comes in." Gabby was a bit confused, so she decided to ask him to explain. "Can you explain?" Matt sighed. "Well, here's the thing. As a CEO, I think that it was the best thing for our organization; as it reduces the conflict that happens between me and my Deputy CEO, and I'm just happy that happened." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, understanding what he was saying as it made sense.
But then, there was the part that made him feel conflicted. "What's the other part baby?" Matt sighed. "I guess, at the same time; I worry, due to the fact that Kelly is already diagnosed with PTSD. And I know that he says he's fine….and I know that he'll be able to deal with it, but…" Gabby already understood where Matt was coming from. "You're worried that he's going to go into a hole, and just not talk to anybody about it if things get too bad." Matt agreed with Gabby as he turned his head and kissed the top of her head. "And listen, I know that I'm no longer the Captain there. But for almost two decades those were my men. I was a leader at the house for a decade, and that's something that I still see myself as; a self-appointed leader." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, well aware that was the case. "And I guess, that's where my head is at. I mean, don't get me wrong; I want to support him." Gabby agreed.
After all, she knows that's what he wants to do for him each and every day. "But at the same time, he's in a different mindset now…" Moving his hand to Gabby's arm, Matt rubbed it. "Before, the two of us just put the bad dreams as that; bad dreams, of bad fires which have just come with the job. If you're a firefighter, you get those dreams." Gabby agreed with Matt, while cuddling up to him some more. "But now, we both know that it's not just bad dreams; rather, it's something more. It's something that can easily escalate, and I have no clue whether he's really told Boden that he has PTSD. I mean, I know that Boden is aware of the fact that I have PTSD; that was how I was able to get my benefits early, including my lifetime healthcare." Gabby agreed with her husband, well aware that was the case. "But my question is whether Kelly told Boden that he has PTSD." Gabby then started to get worried as he said that.
And that's when she just had a feeling as to where this conversation was headed. "And that's why I've been thinking lately, whether I have a duty to tell Boden that Kelly has PTSD? Or do I leave that to Kelly to tell him? I mean, this is something that's really been on my mind lately. Whether I uphold my oath to the City of Chicago and protect it from potential dangers; or whether I put my friendship with Kelly first and protect his privacy…which is something that people with PTSD appreciate, especially with all the trauma that comes along with it." Gabby agreed with Matt, seeing the predicament that he finds himself in.
"Can I ask you in which direction you're leaning?"
