Lessons
The classroom was set up and Minerva stood at the front, tapping her foot impatiently. Allen, Lenalee, and Timothy sat politely before turning at the sound of voices and footsteps.
"Dammit Alma. This is why you don't read books until the early morning!" Kanda's voice echoed from the staircase as Alma's mournful,
"I'm sorry" warbled into the classroom. The door was forcefully kicked open and Kanda threw the smaller man inside before composing himself and bowing to the professor,
"Sorry for our tardiness. Someone refused to get up" he glared at Alma who quietly took his seat. Minerva sighed,
"No matter. Now that you're here, we'll begin the lesson. Did you all read the chapter that I asked?" she turned back to the small class. Most nodded but Tim's eyes widened slightly.
Minerva twitched slightly, there was always one.
"Right so, what we will be practicing today is -"
The lesson continued for a couple of hours and finished with instructions to practice the spells taught and to actually complete the correct readings.
Timothy collapsed onto the sofa.
"I'm beat" he whined. Alma sat next to him and picked up the Transfiguration textbook, rereading that days lesson.
"Really? I want to practice more. This is really fun" he flicked his wand at the cup and frowned when it merely shrank rather than transforming and tried again. Timothy watched him for a moment before sitting up in his chair and placing his own mug on the table, copying his brother. Lenalee smiled at the scene before placing a kettle on the stove.
"Kanda, Allen, you two want coffee?" she asked the men who were currently flicking through their textbooks. Receiving two confirmations, she grabbed three mugs from the cupboard and began making the drink.
"Why don't we get coffee?" Tim asked, leaning over the back of the sofa and Alma looked up, also curious.
"Hell will freeze over the day I let either of you ingest caffeine" Kanda growled. Allen chuckled at the two pouts and accepted the mug off Lenalee.
The group jumped slightly as a loud pop announced the presence of lunch.
"Food!" Allen and Timothy raced to the kitchenette and each grabbed a bowl of soup from the side. Kanda rolled his eyes and approached the food at a much calmer pace, passing a second bowl to Alma, Lenalee taking hers.
"Thanks. We have Lupin this afternoon right?" Alma asked, taking the food from Kanda who nodded.
"For an hour." He confirmed.
"Tim, did you do the reading?" Lenalee asked the boy who nodded,
"Yeah, pixies sound more annoying than dangerous though"
They all looked surprised when Allen froze mid spoon before racing upstairs with his bowl. Lenalee laughed,
"I think someone forgot about homework"
"That's a surprise" Alma said, spoon in mouth and Kanda agreed.
Not long after they had finished their food, there was a knock at the entrance. Lenalee rushed over to open it,
"Professor Lupin. Come in. They're already in the classroom" she told him and he glanced around the room and saw Allen speed reading the chapter he had set as pre lesson homework. He shrugged, there was always one.
"Today we will be learning about creatures that, though not considered dangerous on their own, can become such in larger numbers. Such as pixies. If you could turn to page 5, we will begin with a demonstration"
After the hour was up, five slightly sweaty apprentices collapsed onto the sofas.
"Who knew 'huff' that pixies were so hard to hit,'' Alma panted. They had been trying out the immobulus charm but it was a struggle to hit any of the winged creatures and so they had spent a chunk of time chasing the pests.
"Good work today. You're actually all pretty quick to pick this stuff up. Keep up the good work. And remember to read the chapter on ghouls for Thursday" Lupin told them as Allen walked him to the door.
"Thank you for the lesson professor, it was fun" he told the man who smiled,
"I'm glad. See you later" and he wandered down the corridor, to his next lesson. Allen closed the door and collapsed onto the sofa next to a drowsy Lenalee, Alma and Tim softly snoring on the next couch. He looked across and noticed Kanda reading intently, making him smile. Kanda may not be the smartest, but he made up for it with his desire to not be left behind. Allen quietly padded to the kitchen and started up the hob.
Kanda looked up at the sound of china on wood and noticed the mug of coffee placed on the table in front of him and then at the man who had placed it there,
"Thanks Moyashi" he said quietly, not wanting to disturb those napping beside him. Allen nodded before heading back to his seat, his own cup of coffee in hand. And a donut. Kanda frowned wondering where the snack had come from before shrugging and going back to his textbook. He had a lot of reading to do if he wanted to keep up with lessons. He had no desire to fall behind his younger siblings - it wasn't a competition, he just had to set an example as the eldest. At least, that's what he told himself. He looked down as a weight settled itself on his feet and noticed that Mugen had decided to join him in his studies. He picked the cat up and settled him on his lap, which was more comfortable for both of them, before returning to his textbook.
