A/N: This story is back after a brief hiatus, and I thank you all for being patient with me. This chapter is really short, but it is full of cuteness in my opinion. Now that Banna's little boy is here, let's see them bond a little as a family, shall we?
Chapter Seven
Simon had been settling in nicely with John and Anna for his first four months in this world. He was a good sleeper– if he was in his parents' arms or wrapped in a cloth carrier on Anna's chest. It worked out because she liked having him close by while she did chores or watched television, and he loved snuggling his mummy.
One evening as she was nursing her baby boy on the couch, she felt her heart swell and contract at the realization of how much he had grown already and would continue to grow. One day he wouldn't need her to feed him. One day he wouldn't be able to fit his whole hand around her finger. One day he would be taller than her. And even though she knew that day was far away, she couldn't help but feel a little sad. She was glad he would grow and become independent, but she also wanted to savor the moments she had like this: a quiet nursing session where nothing else mattered other than the bond between mother and child. It was a moment to be cherished and remembered always.
She decided to have some skin-to-skin with him, to treasure the moment while she still could. When John came over with the bowl of popcorn he had made in preparation for their weekly Outlander episode, he couldn't help but fall in the sight before him. His wife truly looked like she was the epitome of contentment as she held her son on her chest, placing occasional soft kisses on his head while he slept peacefully in his mother's embrace.
"What are you looking at?" Anna asked when she realized her husband was there. "Turn on the show."
"Am I not allowed to look at my beautiful wife and child?" he asked in mock offense.
"You can, but I wanna watch the show while you watch us," she teased back.
"Alright alright," he said, reluctantly turning on the television and sitting down beside his wife. "Is that better?" he teased, placing a kiss on Anna's nose.
"Much," she said with a smile before placing a hand on John's cheek and planting a soft peck on his lips. "Thank you."
"What my bride wants, my bride gets," he proclaimed.
"In that case, can your bride get some popcorn?"
"Of course, madam," he said, placing the bowl in between them on the couch so she could reach. "You're welcome," he prompted when she had taken a few pieces and popped them into her mouth.
"Thank you," she said with a wink. "And, John, can you do one more thing for us?"
"Depends on what it is," he teased.
"Can you place his blanket over us? I think he's getting cold."
"He is or you are?" he teased as he got up to retrieve the baby blanket with cars on it.
"We both are," she admitted as she looked down at her baby boy and stroked his cheek lightly with her finger. "Daddy likes teasing us," she said.
"I tease you because I love you," he said, placing the blanket gently over the two of them and pressing a kiss to Anna's forehead and then sitting down beside her once more.
"Well, it's a good job I love you too, isn't it then?" she teased.
"It certainly is," he agreed, wrapping his arm around her as she cuddled into him and they turned their attention to the opening credits of their favorite show.
