Chapter 1: A chance at a dream

A little broccoli haired boy was rushing into the kitchen where a woman was cleaning dishes. She rushed to her side wanting her to turn on the computer so he could see a specific video.

"Mama mama, come on!" he said, "Its computer time!"

"Already time is it?" she asked.

The little boy rushed into the computer room with his mom and dad following closely behind. Inko turned on the computer so the video could turn on.

"That boy has a lot of energy," Toshinori said.

Izuku rushed to the computer and sat down at his chair and started headbanging with excitement while holding his All Might figurine.

"Honestly Izuku! You probably added one million views to this video by yourself! Mommy's not sure why you like it so much, I think it's scary," Inko said smiling, but shivering at the memory of when this happened.

Izuku stared at the screen watching All Might save all those people from a burning building. Helping him was Green Magnet as she pulled objects away in order for people to escape. He knew that his mother was the Green Magnet, but the secret of All Might was still a mystery.

"Those two are the coolest in the universe!" Izuku said

Toshinori and Inko looked at their alien son who was staring at the screen waiting for the video to start like an excited puppy. Ever since the day they introduced him to heroes, he became intrigued and obsessed with them, especially All Might.

"Well, you might be in their footsteps one day," Toshinori said, "You know what today is don't you?"

"I actually don't. What is today Papa!?" Izuku said, wanting to know who's already excited as all get out.

"We're going to see what kind of quirk you have!" Toshinori said excitedly.

Izuku flared even more with excitement and his hair stood up for a split second causing Toshinori and Inko to look at him with wide eyes.

Toshinori then saw the worry on Izuku's face behind his seemingly excited smile.

"Is there something wrong Izuku?" He asked.

Izuku looked up to his father.

"I'm just a little nervous," Izuku said, "What if my quirk isn't as cool or as powerful as Kaachan's, or even worse…. What if I don't get a quirk at all?"

"Young man. Even if you don't have a quirk, I still believe you can be a hero, and if you don't get a quirk as flashy as... well... Bakugo's, you can always train with it. Look at your Mother's quirk for example. Her quirk couldn't pick anything up that was heavier than a dinner plate, but look at her now!" Toshinori said.

"Yea!" Izuku said.

Later on during the day, the family of three went to the quirk doctor. They went to Toshinori's doctor, seeing how the two were good friends in the past. They did a few test to see what kind of quirk the young boy would have.

"Ah, Yagi! How have you been?" The doctor said.

"I've been well Watanabe. So... do you have the results of our sons quirk?" Toshinori asked.

"Ah yes, yes. Give me a minute." Watanabe said as he put his cane down and sat down facing Izuku. "Well... the bad news is... he's quirkless."

The news shocked the family of three, especially Izuku. Watanabe looked at the boy who looked sad. He knew he had to cheer the boy up somehow.

"May I speak with your son in private?" he asked.

The boy reluctantly followed him. Toshinori looked at Izuku with worry in his eyes. Inko noticed it.

"Toshi?" Inko asked.

"I don't want him going through the saame stuff I went through as a kid," he said, "Discovering I was quirkless was a nightmare until… I met 'her'."

Watanabe was taking Izuku into his own personal library which was in his doctor's office.

"Where are we sir?" Izuku asked, "Am I even allowed back here?"

"This is my personal library. The thing is, I was waiting for a quirkless child for years. The thing about quirks, they're distracted by what truly makes a hero." Watanabe said.

"But I don't understand," Izuku said, "Don't I need a quirk in order to be a hero?"

"That's the thing," Watanabe said, "Quirks are nothing more than an extension of our bodies. It takes more than just a quirk in order to be a hero. To be a hero, people need more than just brute strength or some power they just so happen to be born with, they need smarts, determination and will."

He was looking through his books trying to find a specific book for young Izuku.

"Well I have smarts," Izuku said with a smile.

"Well, then this should be no problem for you." Watanabe said as he found the book he was looking for covered in dust.

"What is it?" Izuku asked.

"Well let me get all this dust out of the way." Watanabe said as he swiped the dust away. After he did that, the dust flied everywhere causing Watanabe to start coughing. "That was a mistake!"

Izuku giggled.

"This is a book about a very special element that existed longer than quirks. This element is Ki," Watanabe said, "Many people used this to protect people and be heroes. However it was said to be outlawed by a man by the name of Texas Chainsaw. But that was just a myth. Actually, those with specific quirks can use Ki to boost their physical abilities as well as their quirks."

Izuku looked up to the man with amazement in his eyes as he explained how Ki works.

"And one more thing. I'd like to help you with this book right now but I can't," he said, "I'd like to tell you about some pro heroes that are familiar with ki like Gran Torino but I can't. I also do not advise you to start studying martial arts with a pro. I would not expect anyone to help."

Izuku wrote everything down.

"I'd like to help but there's nothing I can do at the moment" he sAid

"Thank you," Izuku said

"Shh shh," wats mane said, "IM SORRY KID. I know you're upset!"

He turned to izuku, "pretend to be upset."

Izuku nodded and put back his shocked face. He went back to his parents and they left to go back home. The drive back home was silent. Inko and Toshinori were very worried for their son. As soon as they got home, Izuku ran up to his room, and spent hours up there looking at the book.

There was a knock on the door.

"Izuku, can I come in?" Toshinori asked.

"Oh hey Papa..." Izuku said, "I'm sorry you have such a disappointment of a son."

Toshimori then hugged the poor boy.

"My son, you aren't a disappointment, and you very well can be a hero if you train hard enough." He said before noticing a book on the bed, "What's that m'boy?"

"Huh…. oh this," Izuku said pulling the book, "I guess my fake tears weren't enough. Mr. Watanabe gave me a book about this special thing called Ki. He said if I train hard enough I might be able to use it to be a hero!"

Toshinori skimmed a few pages of the book. From what he read about it, he was nothing short of amazed. It had fighting styles, and everything a person could ask for that wanted to learn about Ki. Izuku looked up to his dad.

"Papa?" Izuku asked, "Are you ok?"

"Izuku this is…. Amazing!" Toshinori said, "Starting tomorrow, I'll help you learn as much as you can from this book so you can be a hero!"

"Yeah!" Izuku said

Later on, he went downstairs to see Inko.

"Toshi?" Inko asked, "Is everything ok?"

"I think our son is gonna be fine," Toshinori said with a smile.
