He snuck out of his room, his feet tapped lightly on the wooden floor, careful not to wake anyone. As he approached the end of the hall he looked out onto the deck of their boat to see if anyone was awake. At first he saw no one, cautiously turning back before hearing a faint sigh. He thought it was in his head at first and curiously looked around as he quietly walked into the kitchen.

He opened the closet, pulling out bread and a unopened tub of cream before moving to the fridge, digging in for ham and cheese. Moving to the counter he grabbed a plate, setting a few slices of bread, cautiously grabbing a knife spreading then with cream and slapping quiet a few slices of ham on it. Finally adding the cheese he staked it all into a sandwich with 4 slices of bread all covered in cream, over 10 slices of ham, and enough cheese to match it.

He gleefully held it with both hands, about to bite it while before hearing faint footsteps. He turned, standing still and silent. Was that in my head? He asked himself, instead of turning back to his sandwich he tip toed toward the kitchen door, sticking his head out he heard more footsteps coming from the deck. His suspicions confirmed, seeing a shadow move across the wooden floorboards, only visible from the moon light. In an instant he scarfed down his sandwich, chewing throughly before walking back toward the end of the hall.

He perked out again but this time saw someone, they leaned over the railing, their hair a bit frayed, but too long for any of the male crew members. She was mumbling something, wearing some, one piece pajama suit, very baggy, with a hood hanging down her back from the neck. He saw her stand back up straight and watch her murmur as she paced back to the other side of the boat. Obviously curious as to why she talking to herself he stepped out.

"Nami?"

He called out her name, she stopped where she stood and turned her head to him.

"L-Luffy?"

He looked around over sides of the boat.

"Did you see something? Is… everything ok?"

He asked kindly, tucking his hands into his pockets. She turned her head away and, a lot more slower than her paces, walked back to the railing she was leaning over. She gave a heavy sigh before turning to sit against the railing with crossed arms.

"What are you doing up?"

He paused, walking over to the railing he thought of an excuse. Knowing she'd be pissed to find out he got up for food.

"Leak. You?"

She didn't say anything at first. Turning her gaze to the wood floor. He leaned against the railing, looking to her for a response.

"Just… doing whatever I want. This is the only time I ever get to myself."

He gave her a questioning look.

"But… you have a room?"

She looked to him a bit angry, as if he caught her doing something bad and blamed him for saying it out loud.

"It's dark in there. One window isn't enough."

"Oh.."

He replied.

"You could've told us. We would've given you our room. Plenty of light in there in the mornings."

She pouted irritated and turned back away. He scratched his head, he didn't know what was wrong, or why she was like this. She mentioned the dark… but she wouldn't be afraid of that… right?

"Nami… are you scared of the dark?"

She immediately looked to him surprised at first but just frowned.

"Do you seriously think I'm scared of the dark?"

"Well… you did… say that-"

"I'm not scared of the dark."

He wasn't getting anywhere like this. Something was off with her, and she was bein real stubborn.

"What's wrong?"

"What do you mean?"

"Your out here alone on deck. In pajamas."

She looked down at herself and just scoffed, shrugging it off.

"I can wear whatever I want."

"Did we upset you?"

He asked fiddling with his fingers as she looked to him.

"What? W-Why would you think you guys upset me?"

"Well I know Sanji can be a bit weird."

"Luffy."

"Zoro sleeps a lot."

"Luffy…"

"Usopp is probably too funny for any one of us to match… but he's a bit of a coward…"

"Luffy!"

She grabbed his arm halting his rant.

"I'm not mad. Yea you guys can be difficult, but we're friends. I trust you guys a lot and as mad as I get I still like you guys."

He felt his heart warm at this, he smiled and sighed.

"So your not mad?"

"No, I know I'm difficult, but I also know you guys can handle me being difficult. Especially you."

"Then… why are you out here at midnight?"

He asked again. She looked down at her hand on his arm, letting it go as she brought her hand back to her chest. She groaned as she turned back around to face the ocean. He only followed her with his eyes.

"I just… had a nightmare is all."

He turned around facing the ocean with her.

"Wanna talk about it?"

"No! I-I mean… it's just a stupid dream."

"Was it scary?"

"What? I… I-I mean a little… Again it was stupid. Nothing serious."

"Then why are you awake? Can you not sleep then?"

"Can't I just enjoy the night sky?"

"Well… whenever I had a nightmare. Gramps would ask me what it's about. And everytime I told him, or others, I wouldn't have that nightmare again."

"Well I'm not scared of the dark or monsters under the bed Luffy. My nightmares are more complex than that. I can't just tell people."

"Why not?"

"I just told you cause they're more complex."

"Is it that you don't want to tell people? Or that your scared to?"

She turned to look at him, he did the same. She gave the kind of look that expressed she was caught in some way. Like he hit the nail on the head. She slowly looked back down at the water, seeing her warped reflection in it.

"What if it comes true?"

She asked in a soft worried tone.

He snorts and laughs.

"The whole point of telling someone your nightmare is that it doesn't happen. Or at least that's what my grampa told me."

He looked to her seeing trying to process everything. He stepped away from the railing and stretched his arm down the hallway to his room. After feeling hard boxes, sleeping faces, and bags he found his blanket, or what he thought was his blanket and pulled it out. He turned back to Nami who looked at him curiously.

"Wanna sit down?"

He asked pointing up to the crows nest. She silently followed him, the two climbing up to the bowl that was the crows nest. The space could fit a lot of standing people, but sitting, there was only enough room for maybe 4. He laid the blanket down and sat with crossed legs. She sat next to him with her legs to her chest. He waited patiently for her, seeing her shiver a little he put his hand over the one on her knee. He obviously didn't want to make her uncomfortable by hugging her, but she seemed to lean into him more sitting on her side as she rested her head on his shoulder. He didn't mind and left her be. And after hearing her take a deep breath she finally spoke up.

"I… I was on this ship. Everything was broken, burnt, it was practically falling apart. And when I went to go find you guys, you weren't there. Just a huge hole where your guys room was. And when I looked out I…"

She paused, clutching the fabric of his shorts as she whimpered. He put his arm around her, his hand on her shoulder. He imitated deep breaths, she turned to him seeing him do this and followed him. She took long deep breaths, soon feeling herself calm down as her eyes started tearing up.

"You… were… upside down… in the water."

She said shakily, taking a short moment to breath in an effort to calm herself.

"Your… arms and… legs were…"

Her voice cracked. She couldn't, didn't want to finish. Just before she could finish was was wrapped In his arms, he hugged her, his chin resting on her shoulder as he rubbed her now shuddering back. She couldn't say another word before she begun to whimper, stuffing her face into his shoulder to muffle her cries. She held onto him for dear life, the rest of the dream lost in her head, fading slowly from her thoughts as she sank into his warm embrace. She felt a wave a relief flood her body, she soon relaxed in his arms as she rested her head on his shoulder.

"Feeling better?"

He asked calmly. She nodded.

"Yea."

"Don't worry. I won't tell the others."

She scoffed and chuckled at his claim.

"You better not."

He laughed back sighing as he loosened his hug only for her to hold him a little tighter.

"Can I… stay like this a bit longer?"

She asked with a faint blush.

"Sure."

He said nonchalantly. She embraced him a lot longer. His arms around her in a comforting hold, the faint beating of his heart against her, his light breathing. Not an ounce of malice or bad intentions, no annoyance or hate anywhere with him.

"Thank you."

"You don't gotta thank me, it's only natural to be there for those you care about."

She wanted to cry hearing that. Shifting to stuff her face into the crook of his neck to hide her embarrassment.

"You better not treat me like this in front of the others."

"What?"

She blushed and pushed away, shifting off him to sit back next to him.

"Nothing."

He looked to her, seeing her glance around before looking to him. He smiled.

"Ready to go back to bed?"

She looked back up at the stars again and sighed, closing her eyes only to recall that feeling he gave her. Her heart swelled in warmth as she looked at him, such a warm feeling it was.

"Yea. Uh... Could you… walk me to my room?"

She asked a bit hushed. He looked to her worriedly but nodded.

"Yea, are you sure your ok?"

"I'm fine silly, how many times are you gonna ask me tonight?"

"Just making sure."

After climbing down he walked with her to her room. Where he left he at the door, seeing her walk in before turning to close the door.

"I could… always ask… right?"

She questioned. He looked to her confused, but nodded.

"Always."

She smiled and said goodnight before closing the door. He quietly walked away with a sigh. He shivered a little too, to think someone else beside him would dream of him. He felt a little happy at that, but also creeped out, not in a bad way but a weird way.

In the morning Sanji scolded him for finding the supplies Luffy had left out from his midnight snack. Nami hearing this got just as angry, as she even asked him why he was up and even fell for his lie, but she didn't mention that part and got angry over the fact he ate more of their food. Guess everything was back to normal for the time being.

So until I have some firm results from my unfinished Luffy X Nami stories, I'll try to keep my new stories K, at most T. I hope this is ok, I know there's a lot of stories about Nami with nightmares, I've made a few myself. But I'm kinda secretly hoping I'll make another chapter to this. Maybe expand the little relationship I've started here. I like one shots cause I don't have to follow up on it, but maybe with some support I'll make a continuation. Who knows, maybe they'll get spicy down the road after a bit more development.
