A few months ago, I considered creating an OC for the film, Thumbelina, who would be a good friend of Thumbelina and the opposite of her mother, Ms. Fieldmouse. I hope you enjoy it.

Chapter 1: Poppy's Introduction

One night, as the sun started to set in Paris, a female teenage mouse at age 16, was happily riding on a swallow's back, giggling as she enjoyed the ride. The mouse girl had brown fur, pink ear innards, tan muzzle, black nose, black eyes, and blonde hair. She wore a red top with orange sleeves, a blue turquoise skirt and a matching hair bow tied up in a ponytail, and dark blue shoes.

"Are you enjoying the ride, Poppy?" a giant swallow asked.

"You bet I am!" she replied.

The swallow was brawny and slightly fat with purple feathers, white lower face with light pink cheeks and a hot pink beak, and wing innards, black head, legs, and hands. He wore a hot pink vest with yellow diamonds, yellow boots and a matching hat with a lavender purple band and a hot pink feather.

As the bird zoomed through Paris, he began to sing.

La, la la la la la la la la la!

If you follow your heart!

Ho, ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho!

When you follow your heart!

He stopped a moment to perch on a weather vane on top of a house. "Hello! Welcome to Paris, city of love!" he said, bowing as he took off his hat, "Who am I? I am Jacquimo! Swallow extraordinaire and a lover of beautiful things!"

"And I'm Poppy, his daughter!" the teenage mouse said with a wave, "You'll think it's odd, but - Woah!"

The mouse named Poppy was cut off when Jacquimo resumed flying from his perch and continued singing his song.

You're sure to do impossible things,

If you follow your heart!

You're sure to fly on magical wings,

When you follow your heart!

He landed on a snake-looking gargoyle on the Notre Dame cathedral.

"Oh, that is very nice, nes pas? And I like what it's saying. It's saying follow your heart and nothing is impossible!"

"What he said!" Poppy said as her Jacquimo started to laugh as the two soared through the broken stained-glass window in the Notre Dame cathedral and resumed singing.

You're sure to do impossible things!

He landed on a hat with Poppy sliding off his back.

"Ha! I love the sound of my voice!" Jacquimo said, blowing a kiss to an imaginary audience.

"No kidding, Dad," Poppy smirked with crossed arms.

Jacquimo flopped onto the hat, kicking off his boots and taking off his hat, concluding his song.

When you follow your heart!

When you follow your heart!

"I love great romances," said the bird, "I, myself, am a swallow of great passion. La amor! These are stories about people with impossible problems." Around the room, he gestured to the books saying, "Samson loved Delilah. Oh, that was really impossible. Romeo et Juliet. Oh, impossible. But the most impossible of all the stories is impossibly small." He pointed to a tiny pink book as small as a thumb. "The story of Thumbelina."

"Oh, Jacquimo," Poppy said, stopping him from telling the story, "I've heard the story about Thumbelina many times and besides, she's not the only one in the story."

Jacquimo scratched his chin as pondered what she said deep in thought. Finally, he said, "Oh, you're right, Poppy. It's time we see your side of the story."

"Thanks, Dad."

Jacquimo pulled out a tiny book from his bookshelf and blew the dust from it, revealing a turquoise book.

"Now, this is your side of the story," Jacquimo said, winking at her.

"Alright!"

The two sat down next to each other as the bird opened the book.

"Once upon a time, underground…" Jacquimo narrated, "There lived a mouse couple and a child. 'I will call you Poppy,' said the father mouse. The mother paid little to no attention to her and ever since her husband's departure, she left her to clean the house. As years went by, Poppy became a young adult at age 16 and little did she know that her life was bound to change forever…"
