September 1914

"Hm? Henry?" Abigail breathed her words out as the mayor kissed her neck, laying on top of her on the couch in his lounge. A few weeks had passed since she told Rosemary and Elizabeth about her affairs with Henry and she had no other chances to see him after that. But Cody was having a sleep over at Robert's house tonight and she took the opportunity to go see Gowen once again.

"Yes, Abigail?" He asked her, leaning up a bit to get a better look down at her.

"Thi-This is a little uncomfortable." She told him, trying to reposition herself underneath him.

Henry moved off of her and pulled her onto his lap. "Better?" He asked and she nodded before kissing him again, her hands reaching down to hike her skirt up so it was easier to straddle him. "Why do I feel like that wasn't what you were going to say?" Henry broke the kiss to ask her.

She looked at him for a moment, about to say something, but she changed her mind again. "Don't you worry about it." She said before kissing him again and reaching under them to undo his belt and his pants. She pushed them down before positioning him at her entrance and she moved down on him with a soft moan.

Henry hummed and slid his hands up and down her sides. "I was glad to see you at my door." He smiled up at her.

"I've been thinking about coming over for days." She admitted.

"Why didn't you?"

"I have responsibilities, Henry. I cannot drop everything to come here and let you do what you want with me." She smiled and kissed him again, starting to move up and down on him, humming into the kiss.

"Mm…Abigail…" He broke the kiss again. "You are the one who does what you want with me." He pointed out to her.

She softly chuckled. "Hm, that is true."

Henry smiled when she chuckled. "You have a great smile." He told her, sliding his hands up under her blouse to feel the warmth of the bare skin on her back.

"Shhh." She placed her pointer finger over his lips. "I did not come here to talk."

"See? You really love being in charge." He said with a small chuckle.

Abigail playfully rolled her eyes and kissed him again to shut him up. She ran her fingers through his hair, unintentionally pulling it as he hit the right spot and she moaned. "Ha-Have you done this before?" Abigail finally had the courage to ask him.

"Done what?"

"This." She said again.

"Of course I have." He told her.

"You-You have?" She slowed her movements down a bit.

"I thought you said you didn't come here to talk." Henry smirked at her and moved his hands from her bare back to her ribs.

"I-I am serious, Henry."

"Yes. I-I WAS married for 9 years." He said with a chuckle.

Abigail stopped moving entirely and looked into his eyes. "What? You were?"

"Mhm." He nodded. "I am divorced."

"Who-Who is she?"

"Does it matter? She lives in America now." The mayor moved his hands to her bare stomach and started to move them up, stopping just under her breasts.

"I did not know that, Henry. What happened between you two?" She wondered aloud.

"I was struggling to find work at the time. She wasn't having it anymore, so she found some wealthy doctor and left." He told her.

"Oh, Henry. I am sorry."

"Don't be. If I had stayed with her, I never would have got the job at the mining company and I never would have moved here. Meaning, I never would have met you."

"Oh, I am sure you wish that you never did meet me." Abigail half joked.

"That's not true." He said honestly. "I am glad that I did."

"Are you?" She asked him, not really believing what he was saying.

"I am…You are the only person I've ever met whom I feel does not totally hate me. I might be wrong, but…it's just how I feel. Don't confirm nor deny that." He demanded.

Abigail bit her lip from responding to that. "So you were married once? Have you ever done what we are doing?"

"And what exactly are we doing, Abigail?"

"Well….we aren't married and look at us." She looked down at the lack of space between them.

"When I was a bit younger, yes, I did. But I haven't since I've been in Hope Valley." He admitted. "It's not like anyone around here has been very fond of me since I showed up."

"You could change that. You are mayor again. Use this as your second chance to make the town see you in a different light." The blonde suggested. "Perhaps if you stopped working so closely with Ray Wyatt and the railroad company, then the people around here won't be so angry with you anymore."

"Hm, perhaps…but it is no guarantee…In all honesty, I am still shocked that you treat me as if I haven't done much wrong."

"We all deserve second chances, Henry." She told him, cupping his face with both of her hands. Her eyes roamed his face, studying it briefly before she made a realization looking into his eyes and she caressed his cheeks with her thumbs. "You are a very handsome man." She didn't mean to say out loud.

"And you are very beautiful, Abigail." He replied. "Inside and out." He looked down, a bit ashamed of himself for a second. "I admit that I did give your husband a hard time because I was jealous." He looked up into her eyes again. "I truly am sorry for any hurt I have caused you."

The cafe owner continued to caress the mayor's cheeks with her thumbs as she read his eyes, making sure he meant what he said and when she noticed that he did, she let out a soft breath and kissed him again. Her stomach was engulfed in butterflies and she began to move up and down on him again, her mind spinning with more confusion than before.

When they finished, they kissed for a while before Abigail moved off of him and fixed her skirt, standing up to re-tuck her shirt in. She turned to leave, about to head for the door when Henry gently grabbed her hand to stop her. "I hear around town that you and Frank are getting back together."

"Who did you hear THAT from?" She asked, genuinely surprised to hear that.

"Your boy. He and Rosemary have had some plan for the last few days to try and make it happen." He told her.

"Well, I am going to need to speak with them about that."

"Do you want him back?"

"I am not sure, Henry." She gently pulled her hand out of his grip. "I'll have to think about it."

"And then?...What about us?" He wondered.

"There is no us, Henry. What we do is just…purely physical. And if I do decide to court ANYONE again…it won't be any of your business. Or anyone else's for that matter. I know Cody means well…but he is just a boy who does not understand adult relationships. What happened between Frank and I is only between us. And yes, I do believe I may have overreacted a bit with him. But he needs to understand that I spent most of my marriage worried about Noah going into that mine and I cannot take that again. Frank going out and trying to be a hero when he has no business acting like an outlaw or some vigilante again is NOT what I want in a relationship. If he can't respect that, then I cannot be with him again."

"That didn't answer my question." Henry told her, looking down at the floor.

She watched him and sighed before answering. "If I do start a relationship with anyone else, then Henry, we will have to stop this. You know that." She told him.

He did not answer her nor even look up at her before she looked down and turned to leave his house.

That conversation ended up being ironic to Abigail days later when Cody successfully got Frank and Abigail to be alone together down at the pond for fishing. After a nice talk and some new promises to each other, the couple decided to court again and Abigail felt herself feeling more confused about Henry. She felt weird getting back with Frank without telling Henry about it first even though she knew that she didn't need his permission.

October 1914

She spent the next few weeks avoiding Henry at all and if he came into the cafe for a meal, she would ask Clara or Carson to take his table. Soon, he stopped coming into the cafe altogether, as did other citizens of the town due to Ray Wyatt opening a Commissary run by the railroad company with cheaper prices in order to take her customers. Abigail was beginning to strongly dislike that man and began to regret allowing him into the town as acting mayor at all.

One day, Wyatt stepped into her cafe to make her an offer. A despicable one. She almost couldn't believe her ears when he offered to close the Commissary as long as she paid him 20 percent of all of her earnings. She had realized that she had been too nice to him and it was time to put her foot down the way she would have if he were Henry….the way Henry would have if he were talking to her. In her own kind, charming way, she told Ray Wyatt to 'Get lost' and closed the cafe for the afternoon to go and search for Henry.

Upon finding him in the saloon with a drink in his hand, she walked right up to him at the bar. She had half a mind to give it to him straight and give him a piece of her mind before she recognized a look in his eyes. It was the one he had given her as he apologized to her about the way Noah was treated by him and she hesitated scolding him. "I would've thought you'd be at your desk this time of day making deals that benefit the railroad." She stated, folding her hands together up on the bar beside him.

"Go on, Abigail. I'm busy." He told her calmly.

"You don't look busy." She told him, looking down at the drink in his hand, giving a slight attitude in her words, but pulling back a bit.

"Well…looks can be deceiving." He said, looking down at the bar as he did his best to not give her his own attitude though it was difficult for him considering he and the entire town knew that she and Frank were back together.

"Well, it looks to me like you're having second thoughts about being in Ray Wyatt's pocket."

"Can't a man enjoy a drink in peace?" He asked her with a scowl.

"Henry, if I didn't know better, I'd say you're feeling guilty."

"My dealings with Wyatt are none of your concern." He said with a hint of that guilt in his tone.

Abigail felt bad for giving him attitude and immediately backed off. "Why don't you stand up to him? It's not too late." She tried to tell him.

"Maybe it is and maybe it isn't." Henry responded with a soft sigh. His eyes changed from apologetic to guilty.

"Is there something going on?" She asked him with concern, knowing all too well how Ray Wyatt could threaten people into doing his bidding.

"Stay away from this, Abigail." Henry warned her, not wanting to see her disappointed in him again and he looked away from her before taking another sip of his liquor.

Abigail looked at him for a moment before leaving, though all she wanted to do was stay there and make him tell her what was going on.

She spent the rest of the day trying to stop Frank from invading in Carson's private life and his past. She was so busy with that that she hadn't heard the rumors about why Bill had been out of town for two days…searching for someone named AJ Foster who may have some proof against Mr. Wyatt participating in some illegal activity….With Henry.

She was walking down Main Street toward the cafe when she saw Bill and some woman in trousers approaching Henry and Ray in the middle of the street.

"You're both under arrest." She heard Bill say to them.

"Under arrest? For what?" Ray asked, pretending to be clueless, though Rosemary would have stated that his acting skills were awful.

"Bribery, Obstruction of Justice, attempted murder. There's probably more, but that's enough to get us started." Bill told them, loud enough for anyone standing on the streets to hear.

Abigail looked to Henry when Bill mentioned 'attempted murder' and she could see in his face that he hadn't a clue about that part.

"We have the bank ledgers that prove Mr. Gowen is guilty and the pay off money that you gave me to keep quiet about it." The woman standing beside Bill said, Abigail being smart enough to guess that she was AJ Foster.

"All you have are accusations." Wyatt told them with a smug grin.

"We'll let a judge decide." Bill warned him.

Henry looked at the ground in front of him, his mind immediately flashing to Abigail and knowing how disappointed she was going to be in him. He noticed the people gathering around them in his peripheral vision and he could just feel that Abigail was there watching as well. With no actual proof that she was, he could feel her eyes on him and he looked back up to Bill and AJ. "Bill, I'll turn state's evidence if you can put in a good word for me."

"I'm not making any promises, Henry." Mr. Avery told him.

"You coward." Ray said as he looked at Henry beside him.

Henry looked back at him. "Maybe. Money's one thing…but you went too far." He said. "Attempted murder? Opening the Commissary against Abigail. Asking her for a cut in her earnings?" He squinted at the manipulative man beside him.

"I'm not losing everything I've worked for because of you." Ray said to Henry before reaching into his jacket pocket, pulling out a gun and turning his feet to face Bill again.

Before Ray could get a shot off, Henry grabbed his arm and Ray knocked him to the ground, Abigail rushing over to Henry immediately. Bill had enough time then to pull out his own gun and he pointed it at Wyatt before the criminal finally surrendered his hands to the air and Bill took him away toward the jail.

"Henry, are you okay?" Abigail asked him, helping him to his feet.

Henry leaned on his cane to stand up. "I can see where redemption has its price." He said, watching Bill take Wyatt away and he sighed before looking back at Abigail.

"Henry, I-"

Before she could say anything, Henry started to walk after Bill, AJ, and Wyatt toward the jail. Abigail watched him go, standing there in shock at first before she realized that he could have been shot doing what he did. He risked his life for Bill Avery's. Something she never would have dreamed of seeing, let alone seeing Henry try to save ANYONE and she snapped out of her thoughts, rushing to catch up to him.

"Henry, wait." She took his arm, stopping him from walking. "We have to get you to Faith to make sure you're alright." She told him.

"I'll be fine, Abigail."

"But your leg." She looked down at his cane, seeing a slight crack in it. "You may have hurt it again. Come on."

He wanted to argue with her, but his confusion as to why she was still treating him so well stunned him and seconds later, he found himself following her toward the infirmary.
