Chapter 1
I awoke slowly wrapped in a blanket on my couch. Lucas was seated nearby. He decided to show up at the airport. When i insisted he wasn't needed.
Who knew his presence would be just what i needed. I fell apart giving Angie back. She was on a plane ride home.
Haley was right i grew attached. I should of known and declined the offer. But knowing i helped an innocent child have a better life is allowing me to miss her and let her go.
"You don't have to stick around. I won't fall apart again."
"I appreciate you being there for us over this short window of time."
"And i thank you for being there for me at the airport. Now."
"I'm okay Luke honestly go." Brooke insisted.
Lucas got up from where he was seated and sat next to her.
"You don't have to put on the brave face and all that with me."
"I know first hand how attached you got." Lucas replied.
The smile on her face fell she took a breath and decided to just be honest.
"I don't like any of you seeing me like me this vunerable. You know?"
"Just before the phone call about having to drop her off."
"I was planning to take her to the beach. I accidently called called myself her mom."
"It's silly and naive really this was an arrangment. With an impending end date."
"The life i thought i would have by now just isn't happening."
"I'm watching everyone close to me move on and build lives."
"And then there's me. In this two bedroom house. Alone." Brooke admitted.
