Stay
Chapter 26
authors note : More to come. With Both Brucas babies home. The two need to adjust to now being a family of 5. While figuring out what all this means for their marriage.
"Welcome home!" Ethan exclaimed. Rushing over to the entryway.
Brooke smiled. "Brenda Karen Scott. We're home safe and sound." She said.
"You're little sister is fast asleep my boy." Lucas announced.
"How's you're little brother. ?" Lucas asked.
" Brandon Keith is sleeping too. Grandma Karen fed him and changed him. I got to pick out his PJS." Ethan explained.
"Why don't you go play outside.? I'm sure it wasn't fun having to be quiet. We know how much energy you have." Lucas suggested.
"Can you play with me daddy.?" Ethan asked.
"Yeah you should go." "I've got Brenda covered. I'll keep a baby monitor nearby for Brendan." Brooke added in.
"If you're sure." Lucas replied.
"I am." Brooke said.
Brooke was relieved with Lucas not hovering. She didn't want it or need him making this anymore worse or uncomfortable.
"Let's get you to bed my sweet girl." Brooke said. As she scooped Brenda into her arms after taking her out of the carrier.
Once they got upstairs. Brooke checked in on Brendan who was fast asleep.
As Brooke attempted to change Brenda into her PJs. The infant awoke.
She didn't like being without any clothes. Brooke carefully changed her daughter.
Then soothed her. When that didn't work. She checked to see if the infant needed to be changed. Which she didn't.
So Brooke sat down in the rocking chair on their daughter's side of the room.
Lifted her top and attempted to feed her. Brenda quickly latched on and was no longer crying.
Brooke felt herself relax. As she held Brenda securely in her arms. Given all her difficulties. She wasn't sure if Brenda would take to breast feeding. Because Brendan didn't. But to her surprise it was an easy transition.
Brooke locked eyes with her daughter. Who's hazel eyes and dark hair mirrored her own.
"Momma's got you. My beautiful. Strong. Miracle." Brooke said.
...
Awhile Later
Ethan was taking a nap upstairs. After burning alot of enegy playing and having fun the way children did.
Brenda was still asleep and Brendan was swinging in the baby swing nearby.
It kept him calm and happy which is all the couple cared about.
"Are we going to talk about this.?"
"Or leave all underneath the surface just for it blow up later.?" Lucas asked.
"I don't want to talk." Brooke replied.
"You want to glare and not talk to me. Instead of facing this together. And moving past this?" Lucas questioned.
"What do you want from me!" Brooke exclaimed.
"What i want is for you understand and realize i had no choice."
"I had to choose between my wife and my newborn child. You think that was easy for me.?" Lucas asked.
"Yes i do think it was for you. As long as you got the outcome you wanted. I lived. Did you really care if Brenda didn't.?" Brooke asked.
A hurt expression went across his face.
"Of course i did. I love her and Brendan more so much."
"That isn't something that ever needs to be questioned."
"You took it upon yourself to keep it from me. How serious this pregnancy was the complications weren't worth it." Lucas said.
"If i knew earlier. I would of wanted to terminate."
"You almost died Brooke. What would i done then? How would i explain you being to Ethan.? Our life as a family would of been over."
"You wanted these babies. To carry them and give birth. You didn't want a c section. Because of it having to be you're way under you're control. We could of lost you and her. Then what would me and Ethan have left.?" Lucas questioned.
"I've got it under control. These are my babies. So you feel free to unburden yourself Mr. Scott. Only i wanted this. Just me."
"The message was sent and very clear."
"I'm going to make lunch for Ethan." Brooke proclaimed. Before leaving their bedroom.
