Stay
Chapter 27
Authors note : Thank you so much.
The bed's getting cold and you're not here
The future that we hold is so unclear
This is a modern fairy tale
And I'll bet the odds against it all.
Weeks Later
"I don't hate you. It was hard letting you go Peyton. It was hard losing you." Lucas said.
"When i'm asleep. I have this dream that we're back in LA in that hotel room."
"And you propose me to me. Every single time i say yes." Peyton replied.
Lucas awoke from his dream or nightmare. To the echo of crying coming from the baby monitor.
Brooke wasn't beside him. She was either feeding Brendan or putting him back to bed.
Which meant it was Brenda who was crying. Lucas was beginning to realize when it came to his daughter he wasn't allowing himself bond with her. He simply did what she needed but then went back to whatever he was doing.
It wasn't that way with Brendan. He was reading bedtime stories to both his boys and spending time with them inside the home and outside of it. Yet with Brenda he found himself keeping a safe distance.
...
"Momma's here. Alright sweetheart. You don't need to be changed or fed. So what's the matter.?" Brooke asked. Trying to soothe the newborn.
As Brooke talked to her. Brenda started to calm down.
"Okay. I got it now. You wanted some company."
"Let me tell you a story. About the lonley girl. Who everyone thought had everything you could want. Which she did in a material way. Which doesn't really matter."
"Inside she longed to belong and be seen and loved."
"She searched for that in dark bad places. She found a kindred spirit in Rivercourt boy. He knew her vunerable parts."
"He knew her raw and uncut. He loved and accepted all of it."
"And that's one of the reasons. They fell in love."
"Whether she deserved it or not." Brooke proclaimed.
She looked down only then seeing that Brenda was fast asleep in her arms.
Brooke carefully got up and but her into her crib.
Before quietly leaving the nursery.
She made her way down the hallway. And re entered their bedroom.
"When i was pacing around in that hospital hallway waiting for information on you and her."
"All i could think about is our kids growing up without you."
"Everything you would miss and them having that void and space i their lives and hearts forever."
"And i would raise them to best of my capability. I would."
"But you are the light to my darkness. And the version of myself i was before i knew you would return. And that person having what i have now. Would let the darkness consume me whole."
"And that man wouldn't be the father our kids deserve. In the end they would of lost us both."
"I would angry bitter and full of regret. Alone. So no leaving that decision up to fate wasn't what i was willing to risk." Lucas explained.
"I'm sorry. For acting as if i went through that experience alone."
"I couldn't ask for a more loving and supportive husband. The best father i could of dreamed of for our kids."
"I didn't mean to make it seem like you didn't love them. I know you how much you do." Brooke replied. Tears welling up in her eyes as she spoke.
"Now why aren't you bonding with Brenda.?" Brooke asked
Once she climbed into bed beside him.
Lucas looked directly at her. "I don't want to ruin her. I don't deserve her." He replied. The emotion in his voice thick.
