Chapter 39

authors note : I love reading you're reviews getting you're thoughts on everything. Thank you.

Weeks later

We hide our emotions under the surface trying to pretend.

I want you i always will.

"You ignoring me only makes me want you more."

"I wore you down once and fully prepared to do it again."

"Stop denying how you feel. And be honest." Peyton said. Ending the voicemail she left for Lucas.

"He's so stubborn Ellie. You're daddy Lucas. Is playing hard to get."

"But don't worry. We'll be a family. Soon enough." Peyton said. Clutching the framed photo of her daughter.

"Haley. I didn't know we were recording music today." Peyton said.

"We're not. I'm not one of you're talents anymore."

"I can't believe you wuld insert yourself in Brooke and Lucas's marriage." Haley proclaimed.

"You're living you're happy ending. I'm working on getting mine." Peyton replied.

...

"It's safe to say that. Since we last talked you're marriage hasn't improved.?" He asked. Looking to Lucas.

"I told Brooke i wanted a divorce." Lucas announced.

The therapist put down his note pad and pen. Then looked to Lucas.

"Why would you ask for that? I've made alot of mistakes in my marriage. And how much is Brooke supposed to put up with.?" Lucas asked.

"Plus Peyton kissed me. I technically kissed her back. But i don't want to be with her. But i don't want her out of my life either." Lucas admitted.

"Well then let me put this to you in a different way. Let's say Brooke was reconnected with an ex from her past and you found out they became friends and kissed while you're thinking you're marriage is on stable ground."

"How would you feel?" The therapist questioned.

"That would drive me out of my mind. I would feel like she settled for me. Like i never mattered to her at all." Lucas replied.

"Now take those feelings and add it with the everything else Brooke had been dealing with."

"Is it really a surprise that she doesn't have the want or will to fight for the marriage at this point. She was lead to believe Peyton wouldn't be a factor especially given her past actions."

"What it comes down to is what you want. What you're capable of doing and sacrifice." He explained.

Later on that day

Brooke had finished up with her customers during the morning rush. And was looking forward to having her lunch break.

This whole divorce announcement had put her on edge. And she wasn't sleeping properly or eating enough.

Truthfully she was consumed about how this would affect her kids and given how young the twins were. She knew once her and Lucas sat down to explain what would be happening to Ethan that this would then become real.

And she wasn't ready for that. She didn't want any of this.

But clearly Lucas did and she wouldn't beg him to stay married to her. If he wanted out she would let him go.

Even if it shattered her.

...

She was taken aback at the sight of Lucas entering her store. His gaze locked on her as he entered and walked over to her.

"Are you on the out for lunch or am i interrupting.?" Lucas asked.

"I was on the way out. But i can stick around." Brooke replied.

"I brought you're favorite. BLT. Fries. Iced tea. Little ice. Sweet." Lucas announced.

Placing down the bag on the register. While he placed his bag on the chair nearby.

"I want to talk about us." Lucas said.

"What about it? Brooke asked.

"Why me? All those years ago." Lucas asked.

"You show up. You're dependable and i know you wouldn't back out." Brooke replied.

"Since you're here. I might as well give you these now." Brooke said. As she turned from him.

And placed down a folder.

Lucas opened the folder his eyes going wide. He closed it. Staring up at her.

"You had divorce papers drawn up already?" Lucas asked. The emotion in his voice thick.

"You asked for this. Why drag it on.?" Brooke asked.

"Brooke Davis isn't easy at all. She's stubborn and impulsive. What matters is getting what you want no matter the consequences." Lucas replied.

"Why do you give a damn anyway?" Brooke asked.

"I thought if i brought this up you would see that i'm at a loss at how else to reach you." Lucas proclaimed.

"What do you want Lucas! What have i not given you!" Brooke exclaimed.

"An apology for making me an outsider in our marriage!"

"I have loved honored and supported you through everything we've gone through."

"And when it's you're turn you hold it against me. Instead of trying to be understanding and forgiving."

"I've forgiven and accepted so much from you. You couldn't step up. When i needed you're grace and unconditional love."

"Yet I'm the bad guy. I'm the one who abandoned you. I don't view our marriage as a knee jerk reaction."

"It's the only accomplishment in my life i give a damn about."

"You and having the three of them saved my life. I got a second chance and I will never be able to thank you enough for that."

"I'll have my lawyer look it over. I should go. I've wasted enough of you're time." Lucas announced.

As he took the folder tucking it under his arm and leaving the clothing store.
