It had been a busy day for Ryo. He'd gotten up early in order to get everything done, but now the last of the decorations were hung, the lights twinkling merrily on the Christmas tree, reflecting off baubles and sending spots of rainbow color dancing across the walls, ceiling, and floor.

The baking was mostly finished too, and the whole apartment was full of the delicious aroma of the Christmas cookies baking in the oven. Previous batches were spread out across the kitchen table and worktops; he'd ice and decorate them as soon as they were cool enough, but for the moment there was nothing Ryo needed to do.

Sinking onto the sofa with a badly needed mug of coffee, he leaned back and admired his handiwork; Bikky would be really surprised when he got home from school.

"Maybe I should get on with wrapping presents," he mused, then shook his head, dismissing the idea. There was no point getting involved with something else when he'd have to stop in a little while and take the final batch of cookies out of the oven.

He sipped his coffee and watched the sparkling lights. This Christmas was going to be perfect.
