"Are you sure you will be alright?" Ren asked once again as the timer until the wave's start slowly counted down.

"I keep telling you that I will be fine. I'll stay in Lessy and not even get close to the real action. I'll just provide support magic and contain the rift." Rozemyne said, slightly exasperated by Ren's overprotective streak. "This isn't my first time on a battlefield, you know."

"Who in the world let a girl like you near a battlefield?" Ren asked in disbelief.

"I did. Now, everyone line up so that I can cast my support buffs on you." Rozemyne said to her own bodyguards, as well as Ren and his men.

They all did so, and Ren watched as Rozemyne literally worked her magic, casting dozens of complex and powerful spells over the entire group, raising all of their stats by 50%, making them feel invincible.

"Alright. Everyone remember the plan and be careful. Don't hesitate to use your potions if you get hurt and send up a signal flare if you are in need of healing." Rozemyne told them, getting a military response from the group. "Alright, good luck everyone."

And with that, she summoned her Highbeast, the panda bus Lessy, and climbed in with the rest of her guards as the final countdown began.

…The world lurched for the briefest of moments as Rozemyne experienced the familiar sensation of teleportation.

The next moment, she and her crew were in the forest, still inside of Lessy, with a dark purple and red sky overhead, dark cracks and ripples in space where the monsters were starting to rain from the sky. An atmosphere of chaos in the air.

Rozemyne and Ren went off in different directions, with Ren heading towards the center where the Wave Boss would be, underneath the vortex in the sky, while Rozemyne went up, Lessy flying up into the sky.

"Grutrissheit!" Rozemyne said, summoning her copy of the original scripture, the Divine Instrument of the Goddess of Wisdom, which took the form of a modern day tablet in her hand.

Immediately the screen glowed as Rozemyne focused on what she needed, a magic circle to contain the monsters that were falling from the sky. The circle she needed appeared on the screen, and she immediately cast her signature spell in order to bring it to life.

"Copy and paste!"

A giant golden magic circle stretched across the sky underneath the rift that the monsters were raining down from, and as Rozemyne channeled her mana into it, it formed a golden sphere around the rift, containing the Wave of Calamity and stopping the spread of monsters.

"Wow. Lady Rozemyne is amazing." Raphtalia said as she looked at the massive glowing sphere in the sky. "Are you going to be able to keep that up?"

"Sure. I could hold this for an hour or so before I need to drink a potion." Rozemyne admitted.

"...Amazing."

"Lady Rozemyne, over there!" The bunny demihuman shouted as she pointed out of Lessy's window towards a nearby village, the few monsters that had dropped from the sky before Rozemyne had contained it heading towards it.

"Oh no. Everyone, I'm going to set us down in the village! You bring as many of the town's people to Lessy as you can! I'll set up a barrier to keep everyone safe!" Rozemyne said.

Putting up two barriers at once was pushing her control a bit, but she should be able to handle it.

Empowered by Rozemyne's support magic, Ren and his men shot off like rockets in the direction of the Wave Boss, easily passing by the other two Heroes and their parties as they went.

With so few monsters making it to the ground, they were making fast progress. The most time consuming part of this particular wave was going to have been the fight through the horde of monsters to get to the boss, and then fighting it will at the same time being mindful of surprise attacks.

With Rozemyne holding back the greater part of the wave, he'd be able to finish this quickly.

Ren couldn't help but to glance up at the sky and the giant barrier that was forming around the rift. The semi transparent golden shield looked like a glass veil half filled with a gray sludge and smoke from all of the skeletons, zombies and monster hornets that were being held back.

It was awe inspiring.

Ren knew that Rozemyne said she had the kind of magic power to do such a thing, but actually witnessing it was something else.

Just how powerful was she, and how did she get to be so powerful? She never grinded levels. As far as Ren was aware, her level was still in the single digits.

While seemingly open about any question, Rozemyne somehow managed to keep a lot of secrets about herself.

Well, maybe he'd ask her the answers after this. Like why, if she was from a world of fantasy, did she have a magic flying bus seemingly based on one from an anime for kids, right down to the steering wheel and seat belts.

But those would have to be answered later, as they reached their target, the Zombie Chimera.

"Spread out and surround it. Keep its aggro divided and keep forward distance while we aim for the viper tail! Once that is removed, attacks to its rear will be easy! Remember to not take any risks!" Ren ordered his men, who all obeyed his instructions.

The group fanned out, surrounding the giant rotting corpse with its three forward facing heads and its viper headed tail.

It was the standard strategy for this fight, at least when you had multiple people and didn't need to use disorienting smoke bombs to stun the Wave Boss.

The moment aggro was taken away from him, Ren maneuvered behind the Zombie Chimera before rushing its tail.

The Viper tail snapped at him as he got close, but Ren knew its max reach and paused at the end of it, leaving the open mouth of the viper head just feet away from his face, a perfect striking distance.

He swung his sword and cleanly cut through the viper head, severing the tail from the rest of the Chimera, which started to rage in anger.

Not that it would do the monster any good. With its protection from back attacks gone, it wouldn't be long before they took it down.

And it would be even faster than Ren expected, as the other Heroes and their parties finally arrived on the scene.

Well, Ren wasn't going to let him show him up.

"Everyone has been evacuated, Lady Rozemyne." One of Rozemyne's children said as they got the last of the people from the outskirts of the village into the range of Rozemyne's barrier.

"Thank you for your good work." Rozemyne said to them, though her focus was entirely on maintaining her barriers.

While the one around the party was fairly passive, with the few monsters trying to bash at it having as much of an effect as mosquitoes against a car's windshield, the inverted barrier in the sky was another matter.

Rozemyne had underestimated just how many monsters would be coming through. She'd figured there would be about a thousand of them at most, similar to when the Lord of Winter showed up with his own spawn. But there were hundreds of thousands of monsters squeezing out of the gateway into her bubble in the sky. The sheer weight of them all was threatening to push up against Rozemyne's limits.

Her massive mana pool was slowly draining, and soon, she was going to have to make a choice. Either cut the power and let the monsters run free, or drink a mana replenishing potion and see what would happen.

The last time Rozemyne drank such a potion, she'd been rendered unable to contain her rampaging mana and had to vent it off by casting a powerful heal spell over hundreds of people, which ended up causing people to start to call her the Avatar of Mestionora.

And her mana capacity now was ten times larger than it was back then, and the Legendary Holy Shield boosted the effectiveness of potions and gave a percentage increase to her mana generation rates.

If she drank that potion, she might just go completely out of control, even with the Legendary Shield to absorb the excess.

"Come on Ren, hurry it up." Rozemyne mumbled as she held back the weight of an entire army.

That was when multiple explosions rang out and plums of fire erupted across the surface of Rozemyne's shield.

Rozemyne was confused, wondering if some of the monsters had fire attacks, but when she turned her head in the direction the shots came from, she saw a platoon of knights with staffs held high, firing off volleys of fireballs towards Rozemyne and the villagers she was protecting.

"W…What are they doing?" Rozemyne said, utterly confused as the fireballs landed harmlessly against her shield.

But even if they didn't have any chance of hurting them inside of the shield, that didn't mean they couldn't cause harm.

"The village! The village is on fire!" One of the villagers shouted, pointing towards a nearby house as it caught fire from the magic attacks.

"Oh no." Rozemyne said, pointing her schtappe at the burning building. "Waschen!"

A wave of water came from the wand-like instrument and doused the flames. But no sooner had she put them out, then another building was caught on fire. And another.

In a panic, Rozemyne put more power into her barrier, growing it so that it would cover the entire village. But even so, the surrounding farmlands were being destroyed.

"Why are they doing this?" Rozemyne said, trembling as she struggled to protect the village from the knights' attacks.

…Her mana was draining fast. Even she couldn't keep this up for long, and her panic was not helping matters.

So Rozemyne did was she had to do. She unstopped the potion she had been keeping in her shielded right arm, and took a large swallow.

A story I started and dropped a while back because it didn't feel right.
