Dee glared up at the sky; how could one single cloud manage to spoil the weather so thoroughly? It was a beautiful, warm, sunny spring day, the sky a rich blue, or it had been until that one stupid cloud had drifted across the sun, blocking out its light and heat. A chilly breeze gusted across Central Park, making him wish he hadn't taken his shirt off and tied it around his waist. He could put it back on, but he didn't want to look like a wimp, bothered by a few minutes of cooler weather.
Beside him, Ryo was still wearing his shirt, although it was untucked and unbuttoned, hanging loose over his t-shirt. He didn't have any sunscreen with him and hadn't wanted to risk his fair skin getting sunburned.
"The sunshine was good while it lasted."
"It would still be good if that damned cloud would just get outta the way," Dee grumbled. "How often do we get good weather on our day off at this time of year? And now it's gotta go spoil itself when we're in the middle of the park! It's like we're jinxed."
"Drama queen," Ryo teased. "I don't know why you're complaining; it's one little cloud and a few minutes of cooler temperatures. It'll be gone before we know it, and then the sun will come out again."
Thirty seconds later, the first raindrops hit them. Five seconds after that, they were running flat out for the nearest trees, but they were already drenched by the time they reached shelter.
"You just had to say it, didn't you? That damned cloud heard ya!"
"Clouds can't hear, Dee." Ryo peeled off his shirt and wrung it out.
The cloud drifted on its way, the sun shone down again, and Dee scowled at the sky.
"I hate warm spring weather; it can't be trusted. At least if it's cold and rainy ya know what to expect and can dress for it."
Ryo snickered, pushing wet hair out of his eyes. "Poor Dee. Come on, we'll soon dry off in the sunshine."
Dee scowled up at the blue sky, appealingly cloud-free once more, and slicked his hair back, wincing at the cold water running down the back of his neck. "Assumin' it doesn't rain again."
"The cloud isn't going to come back for another try."
"I wouldn't be so sure about that. It might!"
