Being shot at sure got the adrenaline pumping. Dee and Ryo glanced at each other, Dee from where he was ducked down behind a dumpster and Ryo from the recessed doorway across the alley.

The shooter was further along, and the crack of another gunshot was followed by an echoing reverberation as the bullet ricocheted off rusting metal before taking a chunk out of the brickwork.

Ryo automatically pressed himself as far into the doorway as possible, at the same time signalling his intention to return fire, counting down with the fingers of his left hand: Three, two, one…

He swung around the wall and fired as Dee popped up from behind the dumpster, ready to shoot if necessary. He didn't need to, the gunman was clutching at a bleeding wound in his upper arm, and Ryo was already advancing on him, ready to shoot again.

"Drop your weapon!" he barked out and the injured man let the automatic slide from his fingers to hit the litter-strewn asphalt with a dull thud.

While Ryo stood ready, Dee passed his partner, making sure to stay out of Ryo's line of fire, kicked the gun aside and spun their captive to face the wall, cuffing his hands behind his back and reading him his rights. He wasn't seriously injured, Ryo's bullet had left a crease in his bicep, the intent being to disarm, not kill. They'd slap on a pressure dressing when they got him back to the car and swing by the ER to have him checked over and stitched up before taking him to the precinct for booking.

Scooping up the man's weapon, Ryo followed his partner back along the alley, his legs feeling a little shaky as the adrenaline wore off. It was all part of being a cop.
