The sound of music filled the room as a human girl strummed her ukulele and beautifully sung. All of a sudden, all of the coins which people had tipped her by her feet began to float. The coins quickly scattered around the room, making everyone cheer. "This is MY thank you for listening," she announced.
As the audience gathered the coins, the entertainer sat her ukulele down. Out of nowhere she heard the door loudly open. She turned to find her friend Drew, a wood elf who trained to be a fighter. "Lauren!" he cried. It was clear he was out of breath and in a rush. While panting, he continued, "My... My sister was captured. Along with a princess. I'm... I'm trying to gather assistance to save them."
Lauren couldn't help but gasp. Yes, Drew was a friend of hers, but his sister, Ashton, was one of Lauren's closest friends. She questioned if Drew knew where they had been taken. The elf went on to explain that they are still in the palace the princess resides in, but it's unknown where or how to retrieve them. Apparently they were not just simply captured, but hidden so that the person who trapped them can have an advantage in overthrowing the lord. Palaces are already heavily guarded, but now that there's an invader, it was clear it would be harder than usual.
"We need someone who is well rounded. You know, good in any situation. Smart and strong. Good in combat and magic. Honorable and stealthy," Drew said.
Lauren reached for her ukulele and stated, "I know just the person."
The two made their way across town to a certain cottage. "I've heard great tales of this man. It seems as though he's good at everything. He will definitely be of aid if he chooses to help us," Lauren explained to Drew before knocking on the door.
The two were greeted by a half elf, he was standing with perfect posture and wearing armor. It was clear he was noble. "Are you Benjamin the Paladin?" Drew questioned.
The man nodded as he invited the two in. "Yes I am, but I just go by Ben. You know me?" he replied. Lauren raised her hand stating how she was the one who had heard of him and they came to see if he would assist them.
Drew turned a bit to see another man sitting in the corner with a slouch. He had a dark red cape with a hood. "And, uhhh, who is THAT?" Drew asked Ben.
"That is my twin brother Alex. We are a package deal. If you want my help, you must bring along my brother as well. I don't intend to exclude him," the paladin answered.
Lauren was shocked as she continuously looked back and forth between the shady rogue with a serious expression and the honorable paladin with a gentle smile. "I can see the resemblance..." she sarcastically stated.
"Well, we could always use another hand," Drew told them as he motioned Alex to come join them. Ben asked Drew what they needed them for and the wood elf went on to explain, "In a nearby city, my sister was trapped along with the princess. I need help in freeing them since the palace has high security and we can't let the lord be overthrown."
Alex automatically leaned and whispered to his brother, "I don't care who they are, I call dibs on the princess."
Drew then continued, "My sister would usually be free by now, however I witnessed her being attached in chains which drain her power and make her weak. As soon as I saw them put those on her making her revert back to her natural form, I could see how she was in no shape for a quick getaway. So I left to get backup. For all we know, it's actually beneficial because she could be gaining insight on the situation as we speak."
Ben joined without hesitation. Alex shrugged going, "Freeing two chicks? I'm in."
"We're also trying to stop the lord from being overthrown," Ben reminded him.
"I know."
The group journeyed west through the woods until they could see a stone palace in the distance. Drew quickly reached out his arm and told everyone to wait. He kneeled down noticing tracks on the road and said, "This must have been left from the caged wagon that the trapper put my sister in."
"Nope," an unfamiliar voice replied. Everyone flinched as they looked to see a chubby halfling standing next to them with a smile. "Those were made from the cart my mom built. We use it to go down to the creek and bring back fish," he finished.
"I'm sorry, but... who are you and where did you come from?" Lauren questioned.
Still smiling, the halfling answered, "I'm Isaac. I live with my family out in these woods. My very big family..."
Alex chuckled a bit as he added, "Big as in you're ALL large? Cause you're pretty chunky for someone so small."
"No. I... I meant big as in there's a lot of us," Isaac said as he looked down at himself. "I'm not THAT big, am I?"
Unknowing what to say, Ben tried to change the subject. He stated how they were currently on their way to the stone palace in the distance to rescue damsels in distress. Drew added on how one of them is his sister while the other was the young princess.
"I couldn't imagine anything like that happening to any of my sisters! Family is above all," Isaac replied. He quickly pulled out a mace stating he was a cleric and would love to join in.
The group joined together to discuss whether or not to include the halfling. They came to the conclusion that just the fact he wants to freely join in was enough to show he'd be willing to help no matter the case. Isaac thanked the heroes and stated how he actually knew a faster way to the palace than along this road.
"Well, then please lead the way, Good Sir. I'm sure you know these woods better than the four of us combined," Ben said.
Along the way, Isaac explained how he became a cleric due to the fulfilling desire to protect his loved ones. He would be ready whenever he was called upon to help them. "Of course, uhhh, this is my first REAL quest. So... yeah. It's like my chance to prove myself," he stated.
"Wait, you've never been on a quest or adventure before?" Drew wondered.
"Oh great, yeah this guy will DEFINITELY be of help if he's never even done anything before," Alex annoyedly thought aloud. However, within an instant everyone stopped to realize they were now right by the worn down palace. "Huh... I stand corrected," Alex said, noticing Isaac really did help them get there faster.
