This will be a preview of what's to come. I'll try to get back to this when I can, some chapters will be smutty. To start things off, Betty investigates a murder but gets more than she bargained for. Very AU. Some language.

Wearing all black to sneak around all alone at night to investigate a murder? Maybe not her brightest hour, her parents would ground her into oblivion if they found out what she'd been up to. Betty Cooper's extra curricular activities were not on par with her peers, not by a long shot. She found an old car parked not too far from where the body of the aspiring class valedictorian was discovered by the paper boy two days ago. Flashlight was dying, so was her phone, not a good look for an amateur sleuth.

Old orange Mustang covered by a green tarp, the police couldn't have known about it, they at least didn't check by the looks of things, no footprints or other tire tracks. She was smart enough to wear gloves, she took the tarp off and checked the doors, the driver's side was unlocked.

'Good. I brought nothing to break in with'.

It had that new car smell, must have had a whole new interior, all leather seats, Sheldon Mathers' parents couldn't have gotten this for him, had to be a rich uncle. There was a stain on the floor of the drivers' seat, dark enough to be blood. The rest of the car looked clean, the glove compartment was locked, she decided not to fiddle without a bobby pin. She popped the trunk, she was anxious but what was the worst she could find? Another dead body perhaps? Maybe she should just let the cops deal with it, or not deal with it as their reputation these last few years perceived them. Betty got out and checked the trunk, black garbage bags full of something, she ripped one open, neat little brown packages, a fine white powder seeped out of a crack in its wrapping.

'COCAINE?'

Betty dropped it and shut the trunk, before her heart could recover from a potential attack, she spotted red and blue lights coming up the block. This wasn't just a standard night patrol, someone had to have seen her and called it in, they were on high alert and she knew no matter how hard she'd explain she'd end up in big trouble. This ski mask was also getting itchy, her skin didn't react well to its polyester.

Betty ran down the darkest alley she could find, sirens grew louder, she looked back and saw a police car stop, blocking the street she came out of, all that surrounded her were high fences, she had to act fast, she found some garbage cans, she stepped herself up onto one and jumped a fence into a large front yard she wasn't familiar with. She heard a dog but couldn't see it, all she needed now was to be mauled by a rottweiler, she got to higher ground, climbing up the stone wall of the home via scaffolding, these people apparently put a lot of money into gardening.

Standing on the ledge with her back to the wall on the second floor, Betty was out of breath but maybe if she stayed up there for a few minutes she'd be home free, no cops, no angry parents. She peeked over the ledge, just now noticing how high up she was. 'Not the time to be afraid of heights, Cooper'. She directed her attention to a window, light was on, looked like a master bedroom, not exactly where she wanted to be hanging around. Out of nowhere a woman in only black laced lingerie stepped into view, she must have just come out of the bathroom. Dark hair, tanned skin, it was Mrs Lodge! Veronica's mother! Betty moved away from the window before she got caught, now she could add voyeurism to her rap sheet, not looking good for her future college submission.

Oh no, there was a cop car driving dangerously close to the main gate, this was so not happening, her luck was worse than anyone she ever knew. She needed to hide, they were shining a light around, they knew she was out there somewhere around the property. Betty took a chance with an open window, perhaps this was just a spare room she could disappear into until Riverdale's finest packed it in.

Betty pushed the window up some more and stepped carefully into the dark mystery room; as her eyes adjusted she could see band posters and a bed that belonged to a teenage girl, said teenage girl stepped into the room before the intruder could flee.

Veronica was not at all scared, she was calm and cool, so much so it made Betty all the more horrified.

"Excuse me? And just who are you supposed to be?"

All she could see were two perfect green eyes in the dark, Betty breathed heavy, she wanted to say something, maybe disguise her voice but instead removed her mask in hopes of explaining the situation, she let her blonde mess of hair fall around her head.

"Betty Cooper?" Veronica's eyes popped, "You're a cat burglar?"

"N-no I, you see..."

Veronica stepped closer to get a better look at her, "My my, what is one of Riverdale's top students doing dressed all in black sneaking around in my bedroom?"

Betty gulped, Veronica really knew how to make someone squirm, she was only inches from her, her face looked welcoming but Betty knew she was probably only doing this to get her to drop her guard, make her feel she wasn't in any trouble, give her time to call the cops or worse scream to alert her mother and make it look like she attacked her.

"I only came in here to hide," she realized that in no way helped her, "See I know this looks bad but..."

Veronica shushed her, "You don't have to explain. I'm not going to judge you. You wouldn't be the first to rob us and you won't be the last," she smiled, "What is it you're after, Betty Cooper? Diamonds? Jewels?"

Betty shook her head, "I wasn't planning on stealing I swear. I've been investigating a murder."

Veronica lifted an eyebrow, "Murder?"

"Yeah, remember? Sheldon? He had one of the highest IQs in that state?"

Veronica folded her arms, "Well if he's so smart than how come he's dead, sweetheart?"

Betty wasn't sure how to respond to that, "Listen, Veronica, I'm sorry I broke in just please don't call the cops I..."

Veronica frowned, she was actually offended she'd even suggest she'd do that, "Call the cops? I find the whole cat burglar thing quite intriguing if you ask me. Plus I'm a Lodge, I'm no snitch."

"I'm not a cat burglar!" Betty pleaded.

"Sh! Mother will hear you," Veronica went to her door and checked the hallway, "Stay here."

Betty checked the window, no cops, now was a good time to get out there and make a run for it. Veronica surprised her, coming back with something shiny.

"Veronica, I better go."

"Not without this," Veronica shocked her, putting some kind of ruby necklace in her hands, "Don't worry. She won't miss it."

Betty freaked, there was no way she was going to just take off with what had to be worth more money than any piece of jewelry she'd seen in her life!

"Veronica, I can't accept this."

"Please. You don't want to leave tonight empty handed. What would all of your burglar friends think?"

Betty rolled her eyes, she would never live this down, "Thanks."

She took the necklace and hid it in her back pocket.

"You're such a bad girl, Betty Cooper," Veronica smiled; she may have hardly ever spoken to her in the halls but Betty really felt like she knew her by just the way she looked at her, her eyes were so striking and those lips she couldn't get past. Speaking of lips, Veronica placed them on Betty's cheek, it was strange, maybe just her eagerness to be overly friendly? Maybe something she just did with everyone or only exclusively with hardened felons.

"You better run, lawbreaker."

Betty hesitated, she climbed through the window, she shimmied on the ledge and placed the ruby necklace on Veronica's mother's dresser before climbing back down onto the ground. She couldn't get over what just happened, no one would ever believe this and a good thing too.

To be continued!
