Prologue: How Did It Come To This?

It was supposed to be something casual, a simple and brief affair between Kaoru and the handsome temporary neighbor. He was quite attractive with his long red hair, violet eyes, and sweet smile. His nicely toned muscles did not hurt either.

Now Kaoru found herself lying in bed next to him, spooning if you will after a passionate love making session. 'Could we call it lovemaking though? I suppose you could call us lovers, though we aren't in love. Friends with benefits doesn't make sense as we aren't friends. At least I think so. A tryst then? I suppose so since we are keeping this a secret. A small town like this would jump at the chance to spread this like wildfire. If only they knew how passionate this affair had become.'

Kaoru slapped a hand to her forehead, refusing to think about how passionate her recent session with him had been. Yet Kaoru couldn't stop. The summer season was ending soon, and they would be going their separate ways. He had come for dinner at her home, and it started off fine until he brought up wanting to continue their affair after summer ended.

Needless to say, Kaoru was shocked.

"Are you nuts?"

"I feel there's something here."

"We agreed to something casual. Besides you'll be in the city while I'm here."

"I feel this could work. I really, really like you Kaoru."

There it was, his confession. Kaoru had sensed it for some time and in truth it made her feel warm inside. Still...

"We can't..." Kaoru got up from the table, grabbed the dishes, and walked to the kitchen sink where she placed them down.

He had followed her to the sink, "Kaoru…"

Kaoru turned around to face him and looked into those beautiful violet eyes. He was a good man and found herself enjoying his company each day. Their sensual sessions and talks have become a wonderful summer season, but they were heading separate paths. How could he not see that?

"Ken..."

She stopped when he grabbed her hand and began rubbing his thumb over her knuckle. She stiffened at that and knew what he was doing, hitting her weak spot. 'You son of a..."

Before she could finish, Kaoru stared at him with daggers in her eyes. What she was about to do was reckless, even childish but at that moment Kaoru Kamiya could not think straight. All she felt was rage.

'I'll play your game then, Kenshin Himura.'

Kaoru swatted Kenshin's hand away and grabbed both sides of his face before kissing him passionately. She felt him stiffen and internally smiled at catching him off guard. Then she went further by parting his lips with her tongue and putting it into his mouth where it tangled with his. Soon, Kaoru pushed him up against the fridge as their lips stayed locked and tongues tangled. Hands began to roam freely, and she felt Kenshin's calloused hand go up her shirt and inside her bra to knead her nipple.

Kaoru moaned into his mouth as he kneaded and flicked the bud then felt his other hand go to the other breast to do the same. Carol moaned further and began to grind her body against pensions remove boned in return. His hands went to the hem of her shirt, lifted it up to remove over her head, and then unhooked her bra before taking a breast in his mouth.

It was not long before they removed clothes, roamed fingers over skin, and used their mouths to kiss and suckle other body parts. They both would have a hickey in certain places but neither of them cared. It had been this way all summer with passion to match the heat when they had sex and now Kaoru found herself up against the kitchen counter as Kenshin's two fingers entered the area between her legs and began his gentle strokes.

Kaoru moaned into his shoulder as his graceful fingers worked their magic and she began to lightly thrust into his fingers. Her walls constricting as Kenshin's strokes became a little rougher.

"We..ah…bedroom…ah…"

Kenshin obliged and removed his fingers from Karou who then wrapped her legs around his waist. He grabbed onto her bottom and balanced her body against his as they made their way upstairs to Kaoru's bedroom. They made love twice and their orgasms were louder than normal but neither seemed to care as they gave into their passion to avoid what had been said earlier. To avoid any unnecessary conversations of the future.

That was how Kaoru found herself now on her bed with Kenshin Himura and his body glistening of sweat in the aftermath of their rendezvous. She could admit that she would miss this passion between them. It was the best sex she ever had and even when it was rough, Kenshin was still very gentle.

'But would I miss him?'

Kaoru leaned against the pillows and placed a hand over her eyes. 'I would be lying if I said no. I've had a great time with him outside our lovemaking. He's fantastic but still he will be going back to the city and our paths are bringing us in different directions. We can't make this work. Besides, it started with sex and passion between us more than anything. That's not a good foundation for any relationship. Right?'

I removed my hand and turned my head to Kenshin's bare back and wondered why he felt there would be something here between them. Why he felt anything could work.

'It all goes back to the start of summer. If only I had never said hello.'
