Chapter 1
Not everyone is born equal, is a lesson a four year old Izuku learned.
Izuku Midoriya at the age of four was a tall child standing with broad shoulders. Izuku looked several years older than the rest of his class due to his build. He has green unkempt hair and green eyes with chubby childish cheeks and freckles.
Izuku was excited that morning, today was the day he would find out what his quirk was. He knew he had to have one as he was much taller than everyone else in his class.
Izuku needed to know what his quirk was to stop the other children calling him names like troll, Giant and freak. The only one who wasn't mean was Kacchan.
The day Izuku and his mom went to find out his quirk he was visibly vibrating from excitement. He sat in the waiting room squirming on his seat, his eyes bouncing around the room as if it would make his quirk better if he could see the doctor a second sooner. Eventually, the doctor, an old bald man with a thick grey moustache and glasses, appeared in the doorway.
"Izuku… Midoriya", his nasal voice called out, checking the name on the paper as he spoke.
Izuku leapt off his seat and rushed past the doctor to get into the office. The office was a bare, white room. Izuku's eye scanned the room, looking for any clues as to what quirk might be revealed here. There was a large, wooden desk standing in the middle of the room with a pristine skeleton next to it. On the wall was a box which lit up for the doctor to analyse the X-ray scans. His nose filled with the sterile smell of hand sanitizer and cleaning products, Izuku was too full of anticipation to really notice.
"Shall we begin?" The doctor asked, as he began prepping the needle. This, to most 4 year olds, would be terrifying, but Izuku was too enthused about getting to the results, to care about whatever tests, X-rays or questions.
After an hour the doctor came back to the room with a clipboard. "Mrs Midoriya, what are you and your husband's quirks?" The doctor asked.
"Mine is attraction of small objects and his father's is fire breath" Inko Midoriya responded.
"How peculiar, I believe Izuku has a quirk that is a mutation type which would be strange as they usually only appear if a parent has one" the doctor flipped a page on the clipboard. "It appears to be a very minor gigantification mutation type quirk he may grow to be ten foot"
Izuku's eyes glistened hearing the powerful sounding mutation" yey, I'm going to be a hero just like Allmight"
"Not likely, kid from what I can tell your quirk will only make you taller and a little bit denser than normal you're basically just going to be a large quirkless person. In fact, I'm not even sure you actually have a quirk" the doctor said callously. Izuku completely zoned out, looking as if he had seen a ghost.
"What do you mean you're not sure if he has a quirk?" Asked his mother Inko Midoriya
"Well, you see, pre quirks there were numerous cases of conditions such as Gigantism and dwarfism. These conditions have been virtually eradicated due to quirks changing human bodies however there are still a couple of people who have the conditions within the quirkless population but little is known about such conditions due to the emergence of quirks destroying most knowledge on them, for now we'll put his quirk down as small Giant. Here are the notes Mrs Midoriya they can explain everything and please contact my office if anything about his quirk changes"
The enraged mother snatched the notes from his hand and said as comforting as she could. "Come on baby let's go home I'll get you ice cream on the way" Izuku's face didn't even change he still looked distraught.
Once the two returned home Izuku sat watching Allmight videos. As Inko entered the room Izuku turned his head towards her looking like a chibi zombie. "Mom can I still be a hero? '' he asked with a child like innocence.
"I'm sorry Izuku" she cried into his side "when I can afford it we'll find a different quirk doctor and see" at this Izuku looked up with slight hope but realised she didn't say he could be a hero and became sad.
The next day Hisashi Midoriya, Izuku's father, returned home from a work trip. As he entered through the door he was hit by a large green blur and fell back laughing "look how big you've got I leave for a month and you turn into a little green Allmight" Izuku smiled at his father's reaction.
As he entered he sent Izuku to his room so he and Inko could talk about the doctor. They agreed that if his quirk showed any signs of other aspects they would go to another doctor but otherwise they would just help him in any way they could.
Izuku listened intently to his Dad as he told Izuku all about the heros and quirks that he had come across during his time away. Izuku looked up at him, eyes wide, taking in each piece of information and storing it very safely in the most precious part of his brain. Izuku proceeded to spend his Dad's final evenings scribbling away in his notebook. By the time Hisashi left, it was full of doodles of the heros, quirks and even some equipment Izuku thought that the heros could use.
Before Hisashi left on yet another business trip, he asked Inko to keep an eye out in case Izuku had an analysis or intelligence quirk. Inko laughed in response, but said she would.
A week later Hisashi had returned to America, telling Inko and Izuku that he would visit and send any money they needed back. The support company he worked for needed his expertise for a powerful hero student that didn't have control over their quirk.
For the first few weeks after his quirk was found, or lack thereof as Izuku thought, little had changed in his life. Kids would still be mean and insult him for his size. The only positive was that, due to that size, no one would physically hurt him. Although that didn't stop the pain.
One day during a play session at the park with Kacchan, Tsubasa, Izuku and a couple others they started talking about what their parents did for jobs. They all said fashion designer, support gear designer etc… until Tsubasa said about his grandad who was the quirk doctor they all saw. They carried on talking and having fun until someone said that Tsubasa was too fat to use his quirk. The boy quickly deflected saying that his grandad said his quirk was still better than Izuku who was basically just tall and might not even have a quirk. The kids started laughing at Izuku saying how his quirk was useless. Then they carried on playing until Bakugo began to show off his reading and writing, showing that Izuku's name could also be read as Deku or Useless just like him.
"You can't be a hero without a quirk, Deku" said Bakugo. With that his best friend joined in with the name calling.
When Izuku argues "I can be. And I have a quirk" Bakugo asked," How can you be a hero if you can't even save yourself? "He began making miniature explosions from his hand and proceeded to attack Izuku with his quirk.
After they had finished attacking him he made his way back to his mom and pretended that he'd fallen off the swings.
At school Bakugo began using his quirk on him regularly and if he wasn't someone else would. It quickly got around the school that the giant wouldn't protect himself and the teachers didn't care if you used it for quirk practice.
