Racing though the halls of the city, the four of them tried recall where they had come from, as they left though a different door then they had been brought in.
"Where are we going?" asked Theodore trying to keep up.
The group stopped.
"He has a valid point." said Vincent "I think we've gotten our selves lost."
Elisabeth pulled out her ice bow "Doesn't mater." she said and pulled it back before swinging around to shot an icicle at the pursing Elves.
"We need to find an exit." he insisted.
"Snarlg." she called "Find us a way out."
Jutting his head around, the Gnarg sniffed the air and the ground before racing off down a hall, that led them back where they just came form.
"Come on." she called as he ran after him.
Vincent and Theodore soon followed after the pair.
Their back tracking soon led to the group running in to the very Elves they where running form. Arrows came raining down on them but they did no good, in return Snarlg held out his mace and began to swing around violently.
The mace's weight gave him a steady momentum as he spun around and barrelled in to the Elves, the others followed as they sent their weapons in to Elves allowing them to move past and continue on though the city.
They soon arrived back in to the prison and found them selves looking at the very fate they would endure if they could not escape.
"He's only gone and brought us back." pointed out Theodore "We should."
"Keep your retched thoughts where they belong." said Vincent.
"We where brought this way." recalled Elizabeth as she made her way up to where the Elves had stormed in.
Following behind the others joined her as they climbed up the stairs out in to more halls, Snarlg shot off as he followed the path they had been taken down earlier. An arrow shot over their heads.
"Come on." said Vincent running off.
Joining him Elizabeth and Theodore join in as the four kept close as they tried to avoid capture.
Running through the halls, it soon became clear they where out numbered as more and more Elves moved in to block their flanks and their escape.
"Does anyone have a plan to escape?" asked Vincent. "Because I don't think they are going to let us leave?"
"Just get to the door." insisted Elizabeth.
"What do you think I've been doing."
They took sharp tun to avoid more Elves storming after them down another hall.
Coming out to the main hall it would see the entire city was after them, but they where able to reach the door, but where unable to open it, seeing this the Elves slowed on their approached. Elizabeth violently attacked the door in her attempts to open it but it would not move.
"Why won't it open." she sheathed, still yanking at it.
Vincent pushed her gently to one side "Let me see." he brought up his staff and blue glowing light appeared over the door as elvish words sprouted up.
"It's sealed by magic, we are not getting though here."
Looking back Elisabeth saw the army of Elves was closing in, Theodore and Snarlg where ready to fight.
"What about the wall?" she asked.
Vincent moved his staff over to the wall and the glowing lights faded away.
"No, only the door is sealed by magic."
"Good." she said, with great speed drawing another icicle to her bow.
"What are you doing?" asked Vincent "You know the longer you hold it back the stronger it becomes."
"Well I do." she said, letting it go as it smashed in to the wall as ice quickly took over.
Soon it spread like fire coving the wall in think layer of ice, as it grew outward it slowed down thinning out, but kept expanding.
"Shot it." she demanded."
"What?" he said trying to comprehend what was going on
"Shot it." she said repeating her self.
Getting his staff ready like lance he shot a orange bolt at the the ice, which had taken over had made the wall so fragile it broke a hole in the wall as it blew out ward.
"Come on." she called jumping out.
Only to be caught by Snarlg he caught her by the back of her clothes pulling her way from the large gap below that separates the city form the rest of the forest, where the river flows.
"Jump." said Vincent.
Elizabeth now seemed to be one grasping at straws to under stand what he was trying to do.
"All of you jump." he insisted.
The three of them all took a leap of faith as they jumped out and began to feel gravity take hold as they began to fall. But Vincent pulled back his arm and shot it back out sending a large beam of magic that pushed them over the gap as they fell in to a roll on the other side. Looking back Vincent now saw the Elves had closed in and he took a leap himself only to fall straight down.
The Elves peered over the side to see Vincent had used his staff as a way to float as it sat sideways he was holding on only by his grip. They then watched on as his staff lifted him up, wile he struggled to hold on as it climbed slowly and would stop unexpectedly for brief moment only to help carry him back up.
On the other side Elizabeth and Theodore where gathering them selves, when they looked back to see Vincent appear and despair from sight just beyond the bushes where they lay.
"He needs our help." Released Elisabeth, she shot over her hand reaching out only to have him go higher then before.
Watching both where caught of guard when he dropped, reaching out Elizabeth grabbed his arm. The two formed a tight grip and she began to pull him up as he lost his grasp of the spell and was being pulled back down to river that lay below.
"Help." she said straining to stay on the ground.
Theodore jump in grasping Vincent's hand and Snarlg even tagged in grabbing the both of them. Their combined power allowed them to pull him back to safety, as they promptly feel in to a small pile.
But before they where able to recover a siege of arrows came down upon them, and so they scurried to their feet and hurried away deeper and further in to the woods.
Running fiercely their feet crashed on to the ground as the party raced forward though the thick shrubs and greenery of their soundings. Arrows shot past them as they gave glances back at their attackers who kept up their pursuit though the harsh environment.
"Do they ever give up." Grumbled Elisabeth as she slowed down to fire a icicle at a tree.
"Well given they still hold a generational grudge." said Vincent, pulling an arrow form his cloak.
"Who are they?" asked Theodore.
"Eleven." they both replied.
"And we need to keep moving." insisted Elizabeth as she whistled to Snarlg.
The Gnarg then came flying over head swinging on his mace.
"We can not hope to escape them wile they have the advantage." Vincent said trying to calm his tired breaths.
"Then we fight."
"That would garner us no favours."
"I don't see you coming up with any idea's."
"Point taken."
"Why don't we just fight?" asked Theadore as they leapt over a long ago fallen tree.
"They have weapons that can cut though our scales." Explained Elizabeth as she dropped in to a roll to pass under a small tunnel of earth.
Theodore slowed down as his mind came to terms with what he just hard, before speeding back up and climbing over the small hill, and joining the others.
"But no weapon can penetrate our scales." Reasoned Theodore as if a child saying his friends blade can't cut him down as it's to weak.
"As I too first thought." butted in Vincent. "But as proven, even our own scales can but penetrated by magic."
"What?"
"The blades, the Elven used." he paused to duck under a low branch. "Are embedded with magic not to dissimilar to our own."
"And this allows them to, cut though our scales."
"Yes." said Elizabeth taken over as she drew out the blade "But they can pierce the scales, drawing blood. Beyond that, they can't penetrate that deep." she stopped and swing the sword though a tree coating in in frost. "Which makes carrying the very blade that can kill us a danger to us all."
"Wait your carrying…." started Theodore.
"No he is." she scowled using the blade to spread more frost.
"That weapon is more powerful then you or I realise." argued Vincent.
"How?"
"It's cable of cutting though silver."
"No that's imposable."
"Not really."
Vincent became cut off as the four soon stopped at the base of a mountain.
"Wait where are we?" wondered Elizabeth "We can't still be in the woods."
"Mountains don't just form away form trees." commented Vincent.
"Shut up." she grunted "We need to find a way out."
Snarlg soon began to growl as he spun his mace around in the air, looking back the three noticed an arrow swing past and hitting the rock.
"We need to go up." said Theodore.
"If you haven't noticed, the climb is to steep." braked Elizabeth
"We'll have to try it." said Vincent taking step back.
"How?"
"I haven't gotten that far."
"Oh that's really helpful." she said beginning to argue.
"I don't see you tying to figure a way out."
"Who says I'm not."
"Me, that's who."
As the two bickered Theodore looked as his spear then towards the climb up the rock face, as he glanced up he spotted that the more hard to climb area that stood at base, become easier at a level just out of reach. Backing up he tried to throw the spear in to the rock but it just pinged off at such a short range.
Catching the attention of the others they turned to see what the noise was, and saw him pick his spear back up. Spotting their confused looks he looked to his weapon and decided to explain himself.
"Oh I was going to use this to get footing to reach that are up there." he said pointing to the climbable area of the mountain side.
"You can't do it like that let me." said Vincent stepping in.
Throwing the spear up in the air laying flat he then grabbed his staff in both hands catching the spare in magic grip and thrust the blade forward sending the spear even faster forward that it price the rock.
"It's a little low." Critiqued Theodore.
"Well it's not for you." he said. And proceed to lower his staff and fling it upwards sending Theadore up and forwards landing chest first on the mountain just above the spare, allowing him to climbed up.
"I got this." said Elizabeth putting hand to Vincent's chest to stop him throwing her.
He then watched on as she proceed to shoot a few icicles in to the rock rapidly, slowing the spread of ice. She then used them a stepping stones to get high up, with the limited slip she was bale to reach the top.
"Just you and me now." he said looking towards Snarlg, who charged the rock swung down his mace and poll volted up.
"Just me then." he shrugged.
Soon the sounds of Elves approaching became clear and Vincent hurried to climbed up, unable to find something to grip on to he struggled to stand on the wooden shaft of the spear. And ounce he was up he felt it bend as he tried to reach the others, his reach just short of a grapple edge.
"Take me hand." offered Elizabeth trying to bend down to reach him, finding it hard with out a large enough surface to lay on.
Instead he lent forward almost fell and back up against the rocks, and soon enough the Elves came out an arrow whizzing past and landing in the rock just shy of Vincent's hands.
"Stop there Dragon-Kinn." called an Elf.
Spinning around Vincent caught sigh of the Elf, dark hair, that was shorten then most Elves, along with a silk smooth face, but what was most telling was his scar. Along his right eye was a deep cut that had turned his eye milky white and the red scar tissue was still healing. He stood out against his Elven allies.
"You have crimes to pay for."
"We have in fact done nothing to you, or your people."
"ENOUGH!" he shouted cutting him off.
"You will pay for what you've done."
Watching him Vincent bore witness as he pulled out a black blade, but not made in to sword like that many used by man. This blade had been carved and shaped to match that of an elven blade.
"How did you." Gasped Vincent.
"Come with me, alive. Or come back dead."
Vincent weighed up his options, as he had his staff in hand but was standing on a spear that would brake form his weight at any moment.
"Live or die. It's up to you."
Feeling a snap in the spear he jumped he swung his staff down having the orb making contact with the rock below sending him him upwards landing on the rock's besides the others.
"What about my spear?" asked Theodore.
Rolling his eyes Theodore thrust out his staff and swung it out, up and around before pulling back it, as he did so the spear followed his staff directions and Theodore grabbed hold of it.
"SHOOT THEM!" shouted the Elf.
Arrows where flung at them, as they turned around and began to climb up the mountain.
"Find us a way up the mountain, that cuts them off." the Elf demanded sheathing their black blade.
"Yes, sir." replied and elves.
He looked on as the others escaped his one good eye narrowing on as they slowly faded away.
As they climbed they kept their weapons closed to hand but it also made the climb difficult. Feeling around they found grips and climbed further up the steep rocky surface trying to find more stable ground.
"How long until we find level ground?" asked Theodore.
"Just keep climbing." replied Elisabeth.
"Do you think the Elves have stopped coming after us?" asked Vincent "They didn't follow us up the mountain, or in fact try to shot us down."
"Their arrows can't hurt us." Elizabeth reasoned.
"I still feel like they could have caught us with ease." he looked down to see they where no longer present at the base of the mountain.
And so they carried on their up hill battle with the mountain, carrying on Theodore gripped a loose rock for grip and it fell away causing more rocks to tumble down as it knocked more free. Still safe he reached out for a new hold and they carried on their climb.
