A Witch, A Wolf & A Vampire
Synopsis:
After the final battle of Hogwarts, Iris Potter could no longer remain in Magical Britain. With Andromeda dead and Magical Britain in a state of repair, Iris leaves with her infant godson Teddy Potter nee Lupin and decides to settle down in Forks, Washington where the weather is shit but no one would think to look for her here... until she somehow gets involved with beautiful vampire Rosalie Hale, while she was somewhat looking out for clumsy Isabella Swan... And how did Native American Quileute girl Leah Clearwater fit into this? All she knows is she cares deeply for both girls but can't afford to risk getting too close for Teddy's sake. But when Iris Potter is forced to pick up the Elder Wand once again to combat the oncoming forces that threaten her and Teddy she plans to show no mercy to anyone who comes for them, so why does she feel like she's perfectly at home with the three mysterious Queens that Sanguine once informed her of?
Chapter 1: Welcome to Forks
Now Boarding, Flight BA737 to Seattle-Tacoma Airport. Iris Lily Potter found herself heading towards the gate with godson or rather, son, as far as anyone else is concerned, Teddy, in her arms fussing about the trip.
The Battle of Hogwarts had devastated Magical Britain, she lost a lot of friends and family, but she had won. However, Nymphadora (Don't call her that) and Remus had died leaving behind their son Teddy who couldn't go to Andromeda as she had been killed by Bellatrix a few months ago so all he had left was her. Kingsley took over as interim Minister of Magic and with her friends helping rebuild their society, Iris made the decision to leave for a while, take Teddy with her and settle down somewhere and just… live.
She could have picked anywhere in the world that was quiet, but somehow, the overcast town of Forks, Washington appealed to her, it existed on a lay line that could connect to her magic, it was constantly dreary and covered in clouds and had a small population including a native American tribe. Of course, she had done her due diligence regarding any supernaturals that resided in the area and found that the tribe were a tribe with a history of animal shifters, having latent magical ability to shift into wolves. And a coven of vegetarian vampires that called Forks home, while she would prefer not to be around other supernaturals, with the Elder Wand and her trusty Holly and Phoenix wand in her hands she doubted she would have any trouble if it found her and Teddy. Of course, given her age, she would have to attend a muggle school and honestly, she was fine with that, even excited. She had already enrolled Teddy in day care and enrolled herself at Forks High.
"Excuse me, I think I'm on the window," Iris was pulled out of her musing by a young teenaged girl around her age, she looked nervous. Teddy was sat in the middle and Iris on the isle.
"Oh, sure, let me just move for you to get in," Iris replied with a smile, collecting Teddy and allowing the girl to slide into the window seat.
"Cute kid, he your brother?" The girl said as she sat down, Iris smiled sadly but shook her head.
"No, he's my son," she replied.
"Oh… uh… sorry I shouldn't have assumed…" the girl spluttered, blushing clearly embarrassed.
"Oh! No! He's not mine. Well sorry, he is mine. I'm his godmother, his parents died not long ago, and he has no one else so it's just me," Iris clarified.
"Oh, I see! Sorry for assuming. Guess I made an ass out of myself," she apologised.
"It's alright I can understand why you would think that I'm Iris Potter, and this little marauder is Teddy," Iris introduced.
"I'm Isabella Swan, but everyone just calls me Bella," the girl replied, offering her hand which Teddy grabbed onto and gurgled with excitement.
"Sorry, he's an affectionate kid," Iris apologised.
"No, no problems. It's okay, he's cute," Bella replied with a smile.
"So, you off to Seattle for a vacation?" Iris asked.
"No, I'm moving in with my dad," Bella admitted.
"Oh, trouble with Mum?"
"No nothing like that, my Mum, Renee. She just got remarried to a guy named Phil. He's a minor league baseball player and travels a lot for his work, she wants to travel with him, and I decided she deserves to be happy so I would move in with my dad. How about yourself?"
"Well, I'm an orphan myself, my family left me a large inheritance and with Teddy's parents not around. I thought it would be good for the both of us to move somewhere quiet. Don't know if you've heard of the place but we're moving to Forks, I like to think its out of the way that Teddy and I can bond and just… live, you know?" Iris replied, Bella's eyes went wide, and she giggled.
"Do you believe in fate at all Iris?" Bella asked and Iris raised an eyebrow.
"How so?"
"My Dad is the Chief of Police in Forks, I'm also heading there," Bella said sheepishly, and Iris looked at her with surprise before she too giggled.
"Guess that means we'll see each other in school," Iris said.
"Forks High?" Iris nodded.
"What about Teddy?"
"I have him enrolled at the local daycare centre while I'm in class."
"Cool… whereabouts will you be living? Also how are you getting to Forks?"
"185 South 6th Street, yourself?" Again, Bella laughed.
"You're in the house across the road, I'll be 184," Bella said, Iris just smiled at her.
"As for how we are getting there, we were just going to take a cab."
"How much luggage do you have?"
"Just a suitcase for myself and one for Teddy," Iris replied.
"That'll be fine, I'll get my dad to drive you. I mean it's on our way home after all," Bella said and Iris couldn't help but laugh, Bella joined and then Teddy gurgled not understanding the joke but wanting to be a part of it.
They spent the rest of the flight talking, Bella talking about her childhood and her love of books. Iris avoiding her childhood and making up stories that were believable to avoid mentioning anything about the fact she was a Witch and a well-known Hero in the magical world.
Once they touched down and got their luggage all together, Iris wearing Teddy's as a backpack while dragging hers along while she held her carry on on one shoulder and Teddy in her arms while following Bella.
"Bella!" A man wearing a police uniform said, greeting the younger girl.
"Hey Dad!"
"How was your flight? Here, let me take that. You know we're getting some new neighbours, I thought we could go and introduce ourselves later on once we're home," the man said.
"Uh Dad, no need. I kind of already met them," Bella said.
"How?"
"Dad, this is Iris Potter and her son Teddy, they're moving into the house across from us," Bella said.
"Pleasure to meet you sir, I'd offer to shake your hand but…" Iris trailed off, Charlie Swan looked at Iris and noticed how young she looked before he looked at the infant Teddy, Bella could see him thinking and spoke up before he could open his mouth.
"Godson Dad, Teddy's parents died not long ago, and Iris was named his godmother, he has no other living relatives," She quickly explained.
"Oh, uh… sorry for your loss," Charlie said awkwardly.
"It's okay Chief Swan, I know many will make the same assumptions you and Bella did," Iris replied with a warm smile.
"Actually Dad, that's all the luggage they have so I thought they could come with us seeing as they live across the road," Bella said.
"Of course, here, let me help you with that," Charlie took Iris's trunk from her and wheeled both her trunk and Bella's suitcase.
"Thank you so much Chief Swan, I'll repay you somehow," Iris said.
"Charlie is fine, and I'm sure you'll find a way. Perhaps if you just be friends with Bella, we'll call it even. You starting at the High School?"
"Dad! You don't have to force her to be my friend!" Bella said her face going red and Iris chuckled.
"I'd be happy to be Bella's friend, and yes, I am. It would be nice to know someone at school already," Iris said.
"Alright, well, lets get going then girls, and young man," Charlie said giving Teddy a light pat on the head, Teddy gurgled happily and bashfully tucked his head into Iris' neck.
"Awwww," Bella cooed.
The drive to Forks only took an hour and a half, before long they were pulling up at the Swan residence. Charlie helped Iris take her trunk out of the car and even helped walk them over to their new house.
"Thank you so much Charlie," Iris said with an appreciative smile.
"Your welcome Iris, you too Teddy. Listen, Bella and I will be going out to the diner later for some dinner. How about I take you and Teddy as well? Introduce you to some of the folks around town," Charlie said.
"We'd love that," Iris smiled.
Once Iris and Teddy were inside their new home, she closed the curtains and whipped out her holly wand before setting up wards and a notice-me-not charm. Setting down her trunk in the barren house, she waved her wand around and began to pull all of their furniture and household items from the apartment trunk and began placing it around, of course she secured Teddy first in his little play area with floating toys to distract him while she set up the rest of the house.
Most of the decor was simple and even her room was rather minimalist except for a few pictures and displaying the Sword of Gryffindor on the wall, something that always seemed to return to her, go figure. And above it, the Hogwarts crest. Teddy's room was also fairly bare aside from the crib and a few chests, but hanging on the wall in front of the crib was the magical painting of Tonks and Remus so they could watch Teddy grow up even if they couldn't raise him themselves.
By the time Charlie and Bella knocked on the door, Iris and Teddy's home was fully set up and the charms she had in place made it so they would believe it was already furnished. Magic is good for this kind of stuff sometimes.
"Hey Iris, Teddy, ready to go out for dinner?" Bella asked eagerly.
"Sure thing, just let me get Teddy's bag," Iris said, grabbing Teddy's baby bag from the table with one hand while she carried Teddy with the other.
Dinner was a pleasant affair with Charlie and Bella catching up and Charlie introducing Iris and Teddy to the people. Of course, she had to explain that while Teddy was her son, she was his godmother and his parents had died not long ago. The patrons were sympathetic and let her know if she needed help with Teddy to just ask which was was grateful for. After dinner, Charlie and Bella dropped Iris and Teddy off before saying goodbyes and Iris saying she would see Bella at school the next day before she entered her house for the night with Teddy.
The next day Iris was up bright and early like normal to do her morning meditation and occlumency, organising her mindscape and defences for the day to come, she didn't expect anything to happen but when you've been through a war you can never be too careful.
She dropped Teddy off at daycare, swiftly filling out the paperwork required before saying her goodbyes and promises to see him after class despite his protests and crying. She hated that she had to leave him, but she had to keep up appearances after all.
"Hey Bella!" Iris greeted her new friend as she parked Sirius' bike in the parking lot.
"Oh, hey Iris! Glad you're here, we can be clueless together," Bella said with a smile and Iris giggled.
"Indeed," looping their hands together they both entered the admin building.
"Ah, you must be Isabella Swan. And that makes you Iris Potter, is that correct?" The receptionist asked looking at the pair.
"That's us," Bella confirmed.
"Excellent, I have your schedules here. You'll need your teachers to sign the slips and then return them to us at the end of the day. Welcome to Forks High," she said to them.
"Thanks!"
"Okay let's compare classes," Bella said eagerly.
Turns out, Bella and Iris only shared a few classes together, namely History, Gym and English Literature. Bella was slightly upset but Iris assured her it would be fine, and they'll also make other friends by not sharing every single class.
Bella and Iris both had English Literature first together, then Bella had government studies while Iris had Art, then Bella had Trigonometry while Iris had Latin, then they both had history and lunch together. After lunch Bella had Biology while Iris had Basic Mechanics and then they both had gym together to end the day.
Iris hadn't expected to come across the vegetarian vampires, but she was surprised that when she walked into Art class one was sitting by herself in a little corner, the girl was short much like herself, but she looked like a pixie of some kind with her short hair. She purposefully paid no attention to the girl and just spoke with the teacher to get her form signed before taking her seat for the lesson. Come lunch time and Iris had almost forgotten about the vampire, Bella had made some friends and had invited Iris to sit with them. Mike Newton was the captain of the Basketball team, Tyler Crowley was also on the squad, Eric Yorkie was the senior editor of the school paper and already Bella had declined for her and Iris to be front page news. Angela Webber was a kind girl who reminded Iris so much of Luna Lovegood and while Jessica Stanley and Lauren Mallory reminded her too much of Lavender Brown and Padma Patil, they were mostly harmless.
"Who are they?" Bella asked gaining Iris's attention, she immediately saw that Bella was referring to the group of vampires who were entering the cafeteria.
"Those are the Cullens, Dr and Mrs Cullen are like superstar Foster Parents slash matchmaker. You see the short one? That's Alice Cullen, she's with Jasper Hale the one who always looks like he's in pain. The big guy there is Emmett Cullen, and he's with the Irish girl Maggie Cullen. Edward Cullen and he's with the dark skinned french girl Laura. The last two are Rosalie Hale, Jasper's sister and Edythe Cullen who is Edward's twin, both of them are single but none of the boys here are good enough for them, or the girls" Jessica said rolling her eyes.
Iris noticed a slight probing on her mental shields almost immediately, clamping down on her occlumency barriers she stopped the presence from penetrating her mindscape before turning her attention to the source, being the Cullen table where Edythe Cullen was looking in their direction with curiosity. Iris was aware some vampires had gifts, her interaction with Sanguine having been quite the eye-opener for her. Edythe seemed to be glaring at her and Iris frowned before looking at the other members of their table. Her eyes stopped on the golden orbs of one Rosalie Hale and Iris felt her heart get warm and a blush come to her cheek while the girl in question's eyes went wide before a nervous looking smile came across her face. Iris shook herself from her staring as she zoned back into the conversation her friend was having.
When Alice had informed them that they would be getting two new students, Rosalie had written them off as being just another two regular humans. Isabella Swan was the daughter of the police chief and was moving to town to be with her father, Charlie Swan had been talking to anyone and everyone about his excitement that his daughter was going to be living with him. However, Iris Potter wasn't someone they'd heard much about, just that she moved into the house across from the Swans.
"There's something special about these girls, I can feel it," Alice had said excitedly as they stood around the kitchen table, Rosalie rolled her eyes disinterested.
But now, sitting in the cafeteria and having met Iris Potter's enchanting emerald eyes. Rosalie knew without a doubt that she had just found her mate, her being, her other half, so it was for the first time in decades that she allowed a small smile to grace her face as she held eye-contact with her mate.
"Oh my god! Rosalie, I'm so happy for you!" Alice whisper/squealed at their table; Rosalie didn't pay attention to her 'sister' instead she was paying her sole attention to Iris who looked away from her much to her disappointment.
"I can't read them," Edythe hissed.
"What do you mean?" Maggie asked confused.
"I mean, their thoughts. Isabella is blank, I can't hear anything. I initially thought I could hear Iris' thoughts, but they've gone silent now as well. I don't like this," Edythe said unsure.
Rosalie was pleased that her sister couldn't read her mates mind, perhaps that would mean that they would have some kind of privacy for their relationship. She closed her eyes and focused on her mate's scent, Iris smelled like the forest and of treacle.
"Uh… does anyone smell that? It smells a bit like decay and rot," Emmett piped up.
"Now that you mention it, I can smell it a bit," Alice frowned.
"I don't smell anything," Rosalie said confused, what were they talking about?
Rosalie watched as Iris picked up her phone and frowned before apologising to the table she was at and exited the cafeteria to answer her phone, Rosalie stood up and followed at a distance wanting to know if her mate was okay or not and perhaps introduce herself if she had the chance.
"Hello?" Iris said as she exited the buildings and sat on a nearby picnic table.
"Hello is this, Iris Potter? Teddy's mother?"
"Yes? Is everything okay?"
"Oh uh, yes, kind of. We just wanted to inform you of a minor incident, Teddy and another one of the kids were playing with the building blocks and the other child, Raine, got possessive and well threw one of the blocks at Teddy. He has a minor cut on his cheek. We have to inform you as per state laws and ask what you would like us to do," Iris bristled visibly upset.
"Is Teddy overly upset?"
"Surprisingly no, he looked confused, and we've patched him up and sanitised the wound. He's now just playing with a few others with the stuffed animals, seems he likes the wolf the most." Iris smiled fondly.
"Okay, if he gets any worse just let me know and I'll come straight away. But I think he'll be fine for another two hours," Iris said.
"Of course, we'll see you when you get here Miss Potter. Teddy is a lovely child; all the staff love him."
Rosalie felt guilty for listening in to her mate's conversation, but she could feel her beast raging, upset and her eyes had gone black, she just knew it. Iris, her mate had a son?! Does that mean she also has a boyfriend or a husband? How dare they touch what was hers?! A firm hand on her shoulder almost caused her to growl and snap if it wasn't for the calming presence of Jasper and a concerned Alice who shook her head.
"Calm Rosalie, I don't think its what you think it is. Do you need to hunt?" Alice asked gently.
"No, I'll be fine," Rosalie ground out, taking physical deep breaths.
"She'll be in your basic mechanics class, perhaps you can speak with her then?" Alice added.
Rosalie just nodded, turning around and walking away from her mate who was now just leaning against the picnic table rubbing what looked like tired eyes. Rosalie collected her things and made her way to class a few minutes before the bell was to go off.
The wait was what took the longest, while Mr. Garvey was greeting the various students and organising his lesson notes she sat arms crossed and glared at almost everyone. Rosalie couldn't help herself, sitting up straighter when the auburn hair of Iris Potter entered the room, heading straight to Mr. Garvey to get her form signed. By now the only seat left in the room was right next to her, which was normal, but she was glad no one had tried.
"Welcome to the class Miss Potter, the only available seat is right next to Miss Hale over there. She's also my star student so if you need any help, just ask her," Mr. Garvey said, Iris nodded at him before making her way over and Rosalie allowed another smile to grace her face as she looked up at her mate who eyed her with… suspicion?
"Hey, I'm Iris," Iris said as she sat down, her British accent drawing Rosalie in.
"Hello, I'm Rosalie. It's a… pleasure to meet you, Iris," Rosalie purred, Iris raised an eyebrow at her but gave her own smile which had Rosalie ecstatic that she managed to make her soulmate smile.
Mr. Garvey dove into the lesson then and Rosalie didn't pay any attention, all of her attention was on her mate, taking in Iris's entire being, from her ruby lips, her emerald eyed, the way her auburn hair is wild yet elegant, and the small lightning shaped scar on her forehead. She diligently took notes about the base mechanical theories Mr. Garvey was covering, biting her lip when she was unsure of something. An action that had Rosalie's eyes darkening with hunger of a different nature. But most of all, the smell of nature and treacle calmed her.
"Alright Class, that's it for today. You'll be working with your desk partners for the rest of the year, remember by the end of the year you'll be presenting your own full programmed mechanical creation so start thinking now. For homework, I'd like you and your partner to start brainstorming what field your eventual project would aid with. Dismissed," Mr. Garvey said.
"Were you paying attention Rosalie? You seemed to just stare off in the distance all class?" Iris's concerned voice broke Rosalie out of her haze.
"Oh… uh…" if she were human she would be blushing.
"It's okay I took extra notes for you, seems like we'll be partnered up the rest of the year. Here, my number is on the top so we can discuss anything we need to for class or whatever…" Iris held out a piece of paper which contained well taken notes and her number.
"Thank you, sorry guess I was a bit distracted today," Rosalie said taking the paper.
"No problems, you don't seem as scary as everyone says you are. I look forward to working with you Rosalie," Iris said as she exited the room, Rosalie stood there for a few moments holding the notes she already knew word for word, but her eyes zoned in on the phone number her mate had given her. She smiled as she pulled out her phone and shot off a text 'Thanks for the notes, Rosalie ❤️".

A/N: As Always, Pat. r30N is a fair few chapters ahead. I will be uploading chapters on fanfiction as I upload a new chapter on Pat. This way I continue to cycle new chapters through and as noted on "This is War" my best writing method is to write multiple stories at the same time so hopefully you enjoy all of them!
