The Saiyan of the Literature Club

Chapter 1: The Literature Club

Okay, so I hinted at this in my other story but after giving it some thought, I decided to remake this story entirely. I have many reasons for this. The story had a lot of plotpoints that made no sense, it was insanely rushed due to me trying to fit 5 chapters in a month, I didn't like how I was writing some of the characters, and I hated X2s backstory. Believe it or not, I was willing to carry on with all of that despite knowing how bad it was, but I decided to rewrite because of the main reason. The ending I originally had in mind was really bad and this story was pretty close to being over until I decided I had a better idea for the ending of the story. Unfortunately, I had already built up too much to my previous ending that it wouldn't have made sense in the long run. I figured it would be better to start from scratch. You'll notice that this first chapter is similar to the first chapter of the original story, and you might be thinking I have no reason to reset based on this chapter. That's where you're wrong. I'm writing a completely different plot after this meaning most chapters after this will be mostly original granted the chapters based on the literature club meetings might remain similar, but i'm still going to change things up there too. There's also a main antagonist that I alluded to in the original story who will still be a part of this story. This time however, they won't be thrown in at the last minute. Well, that's all for now. Hope you enjoy the reboot!

Goten is from a family of legends. His grandfather took one final stand against the mad Tyrant Frieza before planet Vegeta was destroyed, his father defeated said Tyrant twice and even saved the world from the vicious Majin Buu. Unknown to most of the public, his older brother was responsible for killing the monstrous Cell and recently defeated another colossal and mindless version of him effectively saving the planet twice. Goten however... Well, he fought Majin Buu and almost won by fusing with best friend Trunks, but they ended up being absorbed, spat out, and obliterated with the entire planet. That was 9 years ago. Now, what is the young Saiyan teen doing? He had just got out of being grounded for fighting crime as Saiyaman X2 and decided to play a new game on his computer that he got from Trunks on his 15th birthday. It was a company from a company called Metaverse Enterprise Solutions instead of Capsule Corp, and that surprised Goten a bit. Despite not being from the richest company in the world, the computer still ran extremely well.

"Alright, let's see if this game is what it's hyped it up to be." He says as he turns the game on. As the title screen shows up, he notices 4 girls in the background with a lighthearted tune playing. 'It doesn't look too interesting' Goten thought. Even though the saying goes don't judge a book by its cover, it's not applicable in every situation. Regardless, Goten decides to press a new game. He decided to make the name X2 after his superhero alias but when he pressed enter things went south… For some reason the screen went black… 10 seconds later it was still black.

"Dang it, it crashed." Said Goten frustrated. The computer then started making an unnatural noise. "Oh no, I hope I didn't get a virus!" Goten thought out loud. He tries desperately to press the X button to close the game, but things took a turn for the worse however when he started to slowly dematerialize into the computer. "It's sucking me in!" His mother Chi Chi arrives to see what's going on only to see her son dematerializing into a computer screen. "GOTEN!" She screamed. Her screams were the last thing he heard as he was sucked into the game...

Goten finds himself in an unfamiliar neighborhood. "Mom?! Anyone!" He shouted. There was no response. "Where am I? How did I get from my room to this neighborhood? Well just standing here will get me nowhere, I need to look around for answers."

"Heeeeeeyyy!" A feminine yell is heard. Goten turns around to see a girl with reddish pinkish hair running straight toward him. 'Hey, maybe she knows what's going on.'

Suddenly he was glomped by the girl. 'She looks very familiar…' Goten thought.

"Haaahhh…haaahhh…". "I overslept again! But I caught you this time" Said the girl.

Goten turned around. "What do you mean again? Have we met before? "Hey, are you pretending like we don't know each other? Meanie…"

"Are you talking to me? Sorry, I think you got the wrong guy."

"Oh, you're messing with me again. Silly X2" she said with a smile. That's when it hit Goten. 'Wait now that I think about it, she looks exactly like one of the girls that was on the title screen of that game I started playing. I wasn't really paying much attention, but if she's here, and she's calling me X2', that must mean I'm somehow inside the game itself!". He remembered that he made his name X2.

"Oh, I must be on edge. I guess I've had a lot on my mind recently." Goten said with a nervous chuckle deciding he'd have to play along for now."

"You've been acting really weird X2… Well anyway, let's walk to school together!

"Okay," Goten said in a somewhat somber tone. This reminded him that he not only still had homework to do back in his world, but he'd have to go to a new school without his friends, not having his family, and not even knowing where his house is or if he has one at all hits, but he knew mopping around would get him nowhere.

As they walk to the school Sayori asks Goten a question. "By the way X2… Have you decided to join a club yet?

"…No?" Said Goten not knowing if he was supposed to be in one already at this point in the game.

"X2, you promised me you'd join a club!"

"I-I did? Oh, I mean I couldn't find anything interesting."

"Uh, huh! I was talking about how I'm worried that you won't learn how to socialize or have any skills before college."

'What kind of person am I supposed to be in this game?' Goten sweat dropped. Sure, growing up he didn't have many friends his age, but when he talked to other kids, he was something of a social butterfly. This didn't really change when he started going to high school.

"Your happiness is important to me, you know! And I know you're happy now, but I'd die at the thought of you becoming a NEET in a few years because you're not used to the real world."

"I don't think you have to worry about me becoming a Neet" Said Goten.

"I'm just really worried about you. You trust me right?"

"Well sure I do!" Goten thought to the name of the game and came up with an idea. "How about the literature club?"

"What?"

"I'm so happy! I'm in that club too! Yay, we're going to be in the same club!"

"Really?" Said Goten but in truth he wasn't in the least bit surprised.

The school day ended quickly. It was a normal day for an average student, but not so much for Goten. Throughout the entire class, Goten was thinking about his parents, friends, his school, the club he would be attending to get out of this game, and everything he left behind. Though he still did well in class, he remained a statue after it ended. That was until Sayori came and interrupted his thought process.

"I thought I'd catch you coming out of the classroom, but I saw you just sitting here and spacing out, so I came in. Honestly, you're even worse than me sometimes… I'm impressed!" She said cheerfully.

"Oh, sorry, I've been in deep thought recently." Said Goten recently. Anyway, are you ready for the club meeting?"

"Are you okay X2? You've been acting weird recently."

"Wait really? How so?"

"Usually, you're so blunt and you tease me a lot, but recently you've been acting like a completely different person!"

"I guess I thought I'd change my style a little."

Goten was never a good actor, and he couldn't go on pulling this façade forever. He wasn't her childhood friend; he was just a guy who took his place. The problem was how would he explain that he simply took the place of her childhood friend.

"Hehe, I'm happy for you!" Said a happy Sayori.

Later

Goten follows Sayori to her clubroom as she hums a happy tune. She then stops and energetically open the door to her club room.

"Everyone, the new member is here-!" Said Sayori Excited

"Hello everyone." Goten bowed as a sign of respect.

A girl with purple hair walks up to him to greet him. "Welcome to the Literature Club. It's a pleasure meeting you. Sayori always says nice things about you."

Goten wasn't big on literature, but he felt like this club was the best way to get back home. After all, the game was called Doki Doki Literature Club for a reason. Before he can respond, a girl with bright pink hair beats him to it.

"Seriously? You brought a boy? Way to kill the atmosphere." Said the girl with bright pink hair.

Goten didn't mind her unfriendly tone, but he hoped she'd warm up to him.

"Ah, X2! What a nice surprise! Welcome to the club!" Said a brown-haired girl.

Goten sighed somewhat annoyed that everyone was calling him his superhero name, but then smiled and shook her hand. He wasn't going to tell everyone who he really was just yet. He needed time to properly understand his situation.

"Oh sorry, Welcome to the Club X2!". If she was confused, she didn't show it.

He then looks at the other girls "I hope we get along" he said sincerely.

"Hmph, not likely." The pink-haired girl said.

"Natsuki… The purple-haired girl said quietly.

Goten chuckles awkwardly.

"She's just moody, don't take it to heart" Sayori whispered into Gotens ear. "Anyway! This is Natsuki, always full of energy. And this is Yuri, the smartest in the club!"

"P-please don't say things like that…" She says as she blushes."

'She's so shy. She seems really nice though.' Goten thought.

"It's nice to meet you two. I hope we can be good friends when all is said and done."

"And it sounds like you already know Monika, is that right?" Sayori added.

"...No?" Goten said." He didn't know what his relationship to that girl was. For all he knew, he was just a popular guy in school.

"Silly X2, it's me, we were in the same class last year!" In any case, it's great to see you again X2" she says as she gives him a sweet smile.

"Um, you too Monika." This was getting a little weird for Goten. All these people know him but at the same time, they don't. They have memories of a someone else who he took the place of.

"Come sit down, X2! We made room for you at the table, so you can sit next to me or Monika." "I'll get the cupcakes~"

At that Goten stood up. "Cupcakes! Why didn't you say so!" A common trait among Saiyans is that they love food. Goten is no exception to this rule.

"Hey! I made them, I'll get them! Natsuki exclaimed.

"Sorry, I got a little too excited~" replied Sayori.

"Then, how about I make some tea as well?"

Goten and the girls arrange a table from the nearby desks. He chose to sit next to Sayori solely because he knew her the longest out of anyone here.

"Okaaay, are you ready? …Ta-daa!" Says Natsuki revealing a tray of cupcakes with cat themed decoration.

"Uwooooah!" Sayori exclaimed in surprise. "So cute!"

"I had no idea you were so good at baking Natsuki, Monika said with a smile.

"This cupcake was so good; you must be a pro." Added Goten.

At this Natsuki blushes. "It's not like a made them for you or anything."

"Either way, thank you so much! I was getting hungry." Goten added.

"I-uh, shut up!" Natsuki says while blushing profusely.

Soon after, Yuri brings in the tea for all the club members. Now, Goten wasn't much of a tea person, so he rarely ever drank it but being the son of a princess, he did have somewhat of an appreciation for it. "Thank you" he said as he received his tea. To his surprise, he enjoyed it. He wasn't indifferent to the taste, but he found the tea to be really good as opposed to the usual indifference he shows towards the drink. "Wow, I don't drink tea much, but the tea is good! Like, it's up there with my mom's tea!"

"Thanks for the compliment, Goten. You know, drinking hot tea could help with reading a good book. You should try it sometime!".

"I'll keep that in mind," Goten said. Back home, Goten did a lot of reading. Most of it was for learning reasons, but every now and then, he found a book that he genuinely enjoyed. That said, his mother made him read so much that he didn't enjoy reading as much as he used to. He still liked reading, but he wasn't obsessed with books like his brother was.

"Ehehe, don't let yourself get intimidated, Yuri's just trying to impress you." Monika calmly said.

"Eh?! T-That's not…" Yuri turned away blushing. " I meant that you know…"

"Thanks for the tea, it was delicious!" Goten happily said.

"I'm glad you enjoyed it" Yuri replied with a smile

"So, what made you consider the Literature Club? Monika asked

"I didn't fit into any other clubs and literature was something that would be a good challenge for me. You can say I joined on a whim."

"Hmph" Natsuki seemed to take issue with what Goten just said.

"Aw, we'll make sure you feel right at home Goten. As president of the Literature Club, it's my duty to make the club fun an exciting for everyone!". Said Monika

"What's the story behind this club anyway? I've never been in a club myself, but from what I've seen, clubs are usually a lot more active than this." Goten replied curiously.

"Well, you see, all the other clubs were either too political and nobody got along so I thought I'd form a club myself. I wanted to do something special and encouraging others to get into literature is as special as it gets! …Unfortunately, I couldn't get a lot of people to join. In fact, if you hadn't joined, this club wouldn't be recognized as official. X2, no, Goten, thank you from the bottom of my heart for joining the literature club.

"I'm always happy to help! I can't imagine starting a club like this. Seems like It'd be difficult." Goten was serious about helping out but still didn't expect the literature club to be fun. He was only doing it to get out the game, but when people need help, Goten likes to provide.

"You don't know the half of it. You know, some people just aren't willing to put in the effort to start something brand new especially when it's something that doesn't grab your attention, like literature. You have to work hard to convince people that you're fun and worthwhile." But it makes school events, like the festival so much more important." "I'm confident that we can all grow this club before we graduate! Right, everyone?" Monika said excitedly.

Truth be told, Goten could understand why there weren't many members in this club. If it wasn't for the name of the game literally being called Doki Doki Literature Club, he wouldn't have considered the club either. Literature was something he already had to do in one of his classes. That said, he could never join a club back at his old school. He lived too far away, and he needed to be home at a certain time and his crime-fighting adventures with Trunks didn't help things either granted, he was recently banned from participating in said adventures.

"Yeah!" Exclaimed Sayori

"We'll do our best," Yuri said Calmly.

"You know it!" Natsuki confidently stated.

The confidence of the girls brightened Goten's mood and he smiled at them.

"So, Goten, what kinds of things do you like to read?" Asked Yuri

"Hmm, well I like to read comics. Specifically, I like to read about superheroes. They're just so cool! They save people, beat up the bad guys, and look cool while doing it!"

"Comics huh? That fits you so well. How interesting.

"What makes you say that"?

"You seem like a very adventurous type of person. I'd imagine you'd relate to stories like those." Yuri replied with a tiny smile.

"Heh, I guess you're not wrong about that. Anyway, what kind of books do you like to read Yuri?"

"My favorites are usually novels that build deep and complex fantasy worlds. The level of creativity and craftsmanship behind them is amazing to me. And telling a good story in such a foreign world is equally impressive."

"I've read a few books like that. Most of it was for school, but they were perfect for escaping reality." Goten said.

Yuri nods. "Stories with deep psychological elements usually immerse me as well. Anyway, I've been reading a lot of horror lately."

'I'm sure Trunks would love to be here' Goten thought sarcastically to himself. To this day Goten does not understand why his best friend has a fear of the undead or pretty much anything with horror elements. I mean as kids, they both fought world-ending threats and have even seen the spirit of Goku, but for some reason, Trunks insists that Ghosts are different from Spirits from the otherworld coming to visit.

"I can't say I've really read any horror. I've seen a few horror movies before, but none of those were ever really scary." Said Goten.

"Really? I wouldn't have expected that from someone as gentle as you Yuri." Said Monika.

"Well, you know what they say Monika, looks can be deceiving," Goten replied.

"I guess you could say that. But if a story makes me think or takes me to another world, then I really can't put it down." Surreal horror is often very successful at changing the way you look at the world, if only for a brief moment."

"Ugh, I hate horror." Natsuki blurted out.

"Oh? Why's that?" Said the girl with violet hair.

"Well, I just…"

Goten notices Natsuki look at him while blushing for a second before turning away.

"Never mind," she said embarrassed.

'What was that about?' Goten thought to himself.

"That's right, you usually like to write about cute things don't you Natsuki?" Said the brown-haired young lady.

"W-What?" Natsuki stuttered embarrassed.

"What gives you that idea?"

"You left a piece of scrap paper behind last club meeting." Replied Monika.

"It looked like you were working on a poem called-

"Don't say it out loud! Natsuki yelled. "And give that back!"

"Fine, fine~" said Monika.

"Ehehe, your cupcakes, your poems… Everything you do is as cute as you are

Sayori sneaks up behind Natsuki and puts her hands on her shoulders.

"I'm not cute!" Natsuki squeaked

Realizing she was getting embarrassed, Goten thought he'd say something to put her at ease. "You know, I think it's really cool that you're able to write your own poems. I doubt I'd ever be able to write something as good as that."

"Natsuki's face grew even redder. "Why do you even care?

"Because it makes you happy?"

"I…" Natsuki goes silent as her cheeks become an even brighter red. She eventually composes herself. "Whatever it's not like you'd like it anyway."

"I'm willing to give it a try."

"No!"

"Oh, ok then,". Goten understood she was shy about sharing it and decided not to pry."

"I understand how Natsuki feels. Sharing that level of writing takes more than just confidence. The truest form of writing is writing to oneself."

'Hmmm, I'll keep that in mind' thought Goten.

"You must be willing to open up to your readers, exposing your vulnerabilities and showing even the deepest reaches of your heart." Yuri continued.

"Do you have writing experience too Yuri? Maybe if you share some of your work, you can set an example and help Natsuki feel comfortable enough to share hers." Suggested Monika.

Yuri nervously looks away without a word.

"Huh, I guess we're all a little nervous." Said the Half-Saiyan

"Aww... I wanted to read everyone's poems…" Sayori added.

For a moment the room is silent until Monika comes up with a proposal.

"I have an idea, everyone~. At this, everyone stops and stares right at Monika. "Let's all go home and write a poem of our own. Then the next time we meet, we'll all share them with each other. That way, everyone is even!"

Natsuki and Yuri looked nervous about this while Sayori looked excited. As for Goten…

"I'll make a poem that will blow you away! You can count on its Monika."

"I'm looking forward to it Goten. Besides, now that we have a new member, I think it will help us all get a little more comfortable with each other and strengthen the bond of the club. Isn't that right Goten?

"Well yeah, of course. Though he didn't show it, Goten was still a little upset about his predicament, but knowing there were friendly faces in this world gave him the strength to keep up the act a little longer. After all, he'd just have to wait a year or so for his friends to wish him back to his world, right? If that did happen, what would become of the girls? They're supposed to be programmed, but they feel so real. How would he explain to his club members that he might just vanish one day?"

"I think that we can officially end today's meeting on a good note." Everyone remembers tonight's assignment. Write a poem and bring to the next meeting, so we can all share!" Monika looks over at Goten. Goten, I look forward to seeing how you express yourself." She added following up with a cute giggle.

Goten wasn't a writer, but he feigned confidence earlier to encourage others. Goten of course planned on immediately playing video games when he got home…. Then it hit him. 'Wait, do I even have video games in this world? Goten thought to himself. The poor teen didn't even know exactly where he lived. After everyone cleaned up, everyone except Sayori left but before Monika left, she intensely looked at Goten for a moment before she took her leave.

'That was weird.' Goten thought.

"Hey, Goten, since we're already here, do you want to walk home together? Said Sayori.

"Okay!" Goten said cheerfully. His mind was instantly taken off the weird look that Monika gave him.

The walk itself wasn't long. Sayori's bubbly personality matched Gotens own.

"That literature club sure had a lot of interesting characters." Said Goten.

"Right? They're all great people! I'm glad you'll finally be able to make some new friends!" Sayori smiled.

"I'm just happy I have something that will give me a challenge. I never thought that I'd join a club for literature but here I am." Said Goten.

"I can't wait to see your first poem! I wouldn't miss it for the world!"

"Yeah, about that… What would I even write about?"

"Why anything that comes to mind silly."

"Anything that comes to mind you say? I bet I could think something up." Goten's first thought was to write about his home because he wanted some kind of reminder of his world since he knew he could be stuck here for a while. The question remained. What would he do?

"What do you usually write about Sayori?"

"Hehe, that's a secret. Oh it looks like I'm home again! Bye Goten!" Sayori started to leave but a realization came to Goten.

'Wait, I don't even know where I live!' Goten thought. "Hey Sayori, where do I live again?"

"Wait, are you playing a joke on me?"

"No, I've been really out of it today and I can't think straight. Let's just say something happened yesterday but I'll explain everything at the club tomorrow, I promise. I just need some time to think."

"Okay, I won't pry, but you'll tell me right? I'm your best friend and I'll be there for you whenever you need me."

"I will"

Sayori smiled. "Your house is over there!" She pointed to a nearby house.

"Thanks, Sayori!"

Goten walked to his house and entered. Apparently, whoever was in his place didn't lock the door. Either that, or he has a roommate. A roommate who is going to be very confused soon.

Inside X2's house

Today was an interesting day for Goten to say the least. Sure, he's fought monsters trying to destroy the planet, he's been trapped in a dimension where time flows faster, and he fused with his best friend, but to him that's normal. Getting sucked into a video game, however, was a completely new experience. Maybe if he had Trunks with him, they could become Gotenks and create a portal back to their new world but unfortunately, Trunks wasn't here to test that."

Goten immediately went to the tv to play some video games so he could ease his mind. Most of the games consisted of dating sims and perverted fighting games. "This is so boring. I rather walk around town for a bit. Goten then got up to quickly finish his schoolwork. Once he was done, he decided he should start on his poem but then...

He heard a noise from his phone.

"Hey, what is this?! Where am I?!"

"What? Who's there?" Said Goten. He took his phone out of his pocket, and he heard a voice coming from it."

"What the hell? Everything is so huge and who the hell are you?!"

"What the heck? I'm not calling anyone or watching a video so why is there a voice coming from my phone?"

"I asked you a question! Who are you and what are you doing in my house!"

"I live here! Or at least now I do… This entire situation doesn't make sense. I play a game and suddenly I get sent to another world where everyone thinks my name is X2!"

"That's my name!"

"Wait so does that mean?"

"YES! I'M THE REAL X2! And if you think I believe that you got another thing coming!"

"Look, I didn't want this either! I had a life before coming here! All I want is to go back home. I'll tell you what. I was already planning on telling everyone about who I really am, but since you're here you can prove my point! We'll figure out where to go from there.

"Wait, who's everyone?"

"Sayori and the Literature Club?"

"You better not have said anything weird to her!"

"No, at least I don't think I said anything weird. We walked home together and talked about poetry." Goten shook his head. "Look, neither of us want to be in this position but our best bet is to work together. I don't know what to do, but I'll figure out something."

X2 sighed. "Well, I don't really have a choice anyway. Fine, let's do this."

"Alright, first things first, I'm going to tell everyone in the club the truth."

"That's a stupid idea. No one is going to believe you."
"I know no one would believe that. That's why you're coming! You'd be able to prove everything to them."

"No, I don't want to worry Sayori! You have no idea how she gets when she's worried about someone!"

"I'm sorry but I can't lie to them any longer. Besides wouldn't it be better if Sayori knows the truth? I haven't known her long, but even I can tell she cares a lot about you. I think she deserves to know how you're doing right now. I understand that it's unfair of me to make this decision for you, but lying about being you would be unfair to everyone else. It's unfair to me because I'd have to lie while impersonating someone who has a prior relationship to at least two girls in the literature club, and it's unfair to everyone you know and love because they'll be investing in a stranger rather than someone they know and love."

"Fine, just please don't tell my parents."

"Understood!" Goten smiled. "Oh, and you should totally write poems for the Literature Club too. That's okay. Don't worry X2, I will find a way. I promise. And I don't make promises unless I can keep them."

"Why should I? I'm not even apart of the club and in case you haven't noticed, I'm stuck in a phone now!"

"I was thinking you could tell me what you wanted to write, and I'd write it down for you but now I'm curious. How does the whole being trapped in a phone thing work? Can you do anything on the phone or are you just stuck inside of it?"

"I doubt it." Said X2 but he checked anyway. To his surprise and Goten's excitement, he was able to freely control what went on the phone.

"Sweet, that means you can type out notes!"

"I stand corrected. I'm still not joining the literature club."

Goten thought back to the games he saw. 'What I have an idea!'

"X2, there are 4 cute girls in that club and I'm sure they'd love to have you as a new member."

"What?"

"Okay, I'm in. Or atleast I'll check it out."

"Yes! I have someone who I can compare too!"

"Is this what this is about? You wanted someone on your level in the club?"

Goten stuck out his tongue. "Maybe." Goten chuckled a bit before speaking again. "But that isn't the only reason. You're on my phone so you'd be going with me anyway and I don't want you to be bored in the club room. At least this way, you don't need to be alone. I doubt you want me as your only company for what could possibly be a year."

"Huh, I guess not. You have a good point." He wasn't sure what Goten meant by a year but he was just going to go with the flow for now.

"Besides when I came here, Sayori said she was worried about you. Well, she thought I was you, but she was worried that you were going to become a lonely neet with no friends."

"That girl…" X2 grumbled.

"I know it's probably really uncomfortable in there, but I can't say how long you'll be like this. I feel guilty for living your life so the least I can do is clear everything up and make sure you're comfortable until we figure something out." Said Goten.

"I'm going to put my trust in you. Just please get me out of here. I want just want to have a body again!"

"You got it!"

"Oh, I just realized I never got your name."

Goten simply smiled at the question. "My name is Son Goten! I'm so glad I got to meet you!"
