The Savoy was all music and light. Trina held tightly to Spencer's hand as they entered. Bad Habits by that one musician who Trina couldn't name at the moment was playing. It was a song that Trina loved because the video reminded her of her job, so it was kind of fitting.
"Do you want to dance?" Spencer asked, amused by how the slayer seemed to be resisting the urge to bounce to the music.
Trina couldn't take it anymore! She grabbed Spencer's hand. "Of course!"
They were soon out on the dance floor dancing together. Spencer was a really good dancer. He was keeping up with Trina perfectly as she moved to the music. All too soon, the song was finished and Trina's throat was incredibly dry.
"That was fun," Spencer laughed. He usually avoided the dance floor, because he never felt like there was anyone he'd want to dance with, but Trina was different. He wanted to just take her in his arms and dance the night away with her.
"Yes, it was. It's been a while since I had someone to really dance with," Trina giggled.
"Hey Spencer, is that you finally out on the dance floor?!"
Spencer and Trina looked to see Cam and Joss waving at them.
Spencer sighed, feeling a little annoyed. Couldn't they see that he was on a date? Then again, how would they know?
"Do you want to join your friends? I don't mind," Trina could see the reluctance in his eyes. She too felt reluctant, but she didn't want to be rude either.
"I guess it wouldn't hurt. We've spent the past few hours alone, so some company may be good. Besides, they've been wanting to get to know you as well."
"You didn't tell them…"
"I kind of had too. I told them about Esme...then they wanted to know how I got away...was it supposed to be a secret?" Spencer frowned. Had he already messed up what looked to be the best thing to happen to him already? He wouldn't be surprised if he had.
"No, not really. I just don't want it to get around to everyone. I kind of want to keep as low of a profile as possible...even though it may be too late regardless."
"Trina, I'm sorry…"
"Don't be. It's fine. If there are any repercussions, I'll deal. Let's go see your friends," She gave his hand a gentle squeeze, not wanting him to think that he had gotten her into trouble.
Cam and Joss were at a table that thankfully seated four. Trina was definitely ready to get off her feet for a few minutes. Usually, her slayer stamina would have her out on the dance floor for hours, but after the heavy meal and the way her feelings for Spencer were running rampant, she was thankful for a chance to just sit down and do nothing.
"You two looked like you were having fun out there," Joss giggled, sipping on her drink.
"Yeah. It's not every day that we see Spencer Cassadine cutting a rug. He must really be into you...Ow!" Cam frowned at the swift kick Spencer gave him under the table. He glared at his cousin who just gave him an oh-so-innocent look.
"Is something wrong, Townie?" Spencer asked nonchalantly.
Cam pursed his lips and shook his head. "No. Just someone doesn't know how to keep his feet to himself."
Joss sighed and rolled her eyes. "Trina, thank goodness that you're here. Another girl is definitely needed in this friend group. These two are at it all the time. You wouldn't think that they were the best of friends."
"Cousins. We share a grandmother," Spencer corrected.
Trina was amused as she witnessed the dynamics between the three friends. She didn't know if she'd ever fit in, but she was willing to try. "I'm glad to be of service."
"From what Spencer's told us, you were of service last night. I knew that Esme was no good. The fact that she was a freaking vampire is no surprise!" Cam shook his head.
"Is it true that you're some kind of vampire slayer? You're not like Lucy Coe, are you? For a while, she had gone around saying she was a vampire slayer, but no one had actually seen her take one out," Joss chuckled.
"Oh, Trina's the real deal. I saw her dust Esme herself, after first kicking her ass. She's awesome," Spencer gushed, causing Trina to blush.
"I was just doing my job," Trina shrugged.
"I wish I was a vampire slayer. When my mom heard about it, she was surprised I wasn't called," Joss chuckled.
"I can't believe that there was a time when there was only one girl to do it. Unless you count Ms. Coe…," Cam chuckled.
"Are you thirsty? I can get you something to drink," Spencer offered.
"You wouldn't mind?"
"Of course not. I'll be back. I'll bring you something nice and fruity."
"That'd be great," Trina giggled and watched as Spencer got up to head for the bar.
Cam chuckled and smiled at Trina. She was indeed pretty and he was sure that Spencer was already head over heels for her. "Spencer is really fond of you. It's good to see him like this. After the Esme mess, I was certain that he had sworn off girls for good."
"What was the story there?" Trina asked, feeling curious.
"Well, Esme Prince came to Port Charles with Spencer when he returned from boarding school. She was so fake and abrasive, Cam and I immediately disliked her, but she had Spencer snowed for a good two months before she revealed herself to be a manipulative gold digger that had been after Spencer's money all along. He broke up with her after a big blow-up. Two months later, she disappeared and had been gone for a full year...then she showed up last night and you did the rest," Joss explained.
"Spencer must have been heartbroken when he learned about how she really was," Trina frowned.
"He was. He refused to even talk to another girl for a bit after that, not knowing if he could really trust anyone or not. Joss was the only girl he did talk to and that was because they had grown up together. Really, you're the first girl that he's really shown interest in since the whole Esme debacle. We were kind of surprised, to be honest," Cam chuckled. "Surprised, but happy. Spencer deserves to be happy just like Joss and I are. Beneath all that brattiness and entitlement, he's a great guy with a good heart. Which was why it was so easy for Esme to take advantage of him."
Trina felt sad for Spencer. To grow up in a world like that, where you can have everything, but be unable to trust anyone because of their own greed...and now...he could possibly find out that he couldn't even trust his family...it made her heart hurt. She wanted to protect him from it all so badly, even though she knew that she couldn't. No matter how hard she tried, he was going to be hurt by his family's secrets. His trust was going to be broken. She just hoped to be there for him. Be the one person that he knew that he could count on because when it came down to it, despite only just meeting him, Trina liked Spencer Cassadine. She liked him a lot. There was just something about him that touched her soul and refused to let go.
"Here you go, back with a fruity drink," Spencer returned.
Trina gratefully accepted the drink and took a long sip. She closed her eyes in total bliss. "Mmm, I taste strawberries…"
"It's the Savoy's specialty," Spencer smiled, happy to see Trina enjoy the drink he had gotten her. There was just something about this girl that made him want to do all he could to make her happy. He didn't know what it was, but he didn't want to fight it. It was lonely life he lead as the Cassadine heir, not knowing who he could trust, who he could get close to. For some reason, he felt that he could trust Trina. That she wouldn't hurt him like Esme had. Of course, being a vampire slayer, her priorities were indeed different from the gold-digging Esme's.
"It's delicious," Trina giggled, the alcohol was already making her feel giddy. God, she was such a lightweight. Faith would probably tease her to no end about how she was unable to really handle her alcohol.
The foursome sat around the table and got to know each other better. Trina found that she liked both Joss and Cameron. They weren't only nice and fun, but they also took her job as a vampire slayer seriously, asking her what a vampire slayer did, how strong she was, how many vamps she slayed, and could humans, such as themselves, help. They listened to her tell the story of Buffy and her Scooby gang. How normal teenagers helped the slayer defeat the Hellmouth of Sunnydale and how other humans were drawn into the good fight and won. It wasn't just a fight for girls with superhuman strength. They seemed to be glad to know that and had offered their help if she ever needed it.
Suddenly a slow song came on. Spencer got up and held his hand out to Trina, his brown eyes sparkling and his smile warm and inviting. "May I ask for this dance?"
Trina smiled and took his hand. "I can do for another one."
"We'll just wait here," Cameron waved as Spencer pulled Trina out onto the dance floor and into his arms.
"I like your friends," Trina smiled, as Spencer slowly moved with the music, keeping her in his arms.
"They like you too. They think they want in on the fight against vampires," Spencer chuckled. "I can see Cam taking out a vamp or two."
"How about Joss."
"Oh, definitely. She'll just have to screech and they'll dust right there."
"Spencer!" Trina stared at him, in disbelief. How could he say something so mean and petty about his friend? Joss seemed like a sweetheart to her.
"I'm just joking. Joss and I kind of have this mean-taking-the-piss thing going with each other. It's our thing. Believe me, We love each other to death and want only the best for each other."
"That's good to know."
"I don't want you to think that I'm some asshole that doesn't know how to treat his friends."
"I don't think that about you, In fact...I think you're very charming...and sweet," Trina found herself confessing.
"Ah, so you do like me," Spencer teased.
Trina rolled her eyes and gave a coy smile. "Maybe. For now at least. I still have to get to know you more. I had only met you, after all."
"Oh, of course," Spencer smiled. His smile faded though when he looked over at the table and saw an unsmiling Cam and an opened mouth Joss talking to a young man with strawberry blond hair. "I can't believe this…"
Trina frowned and followed Spencer's gaze. Just by looking at the young man talking to her new friends, she could tell that he was a vampire...but there was something different about him that told her that he was unlike the others. He had a soul.
"Who is that?"
"Dex Heller. He works for my Uncle Sonny. He's always floating around Joss all the freaking time. Cam can't stand him and Joss won't tell him to leave her alone."
Trina frowned, watching Dex talk to Joss. Then Cam got up, looking as if he was going to punch someone. "I think we better get over there."
"You're right," Spencer sighed, hating that this dance was ending way too soon, but he didn't want Cam getting thrown out for fighting. He took Trina's hand and together they approached the table. "Hey, what's going on here? Is this jerk bothering you guys?"
"Back off, Spencer," Joss sighed, looking caught between her boyfriend and this new guy that had turned his glare on Spencer.
"Yeah, Cassadine. Back off. I don't want to have to deal with Daddy," Dex smirked.
"How about I call my Uncle Sonny? Tell him that his employee here is again stalking my friends after he had already told you to leave Joss alone," Spencer threatened.
"I just wanted to stop and say hi. It's not my problem that your little friend there can't stand the fact that his girl has more friends than just him."
"Just get lost, why don't you? No one asked you here," Cam glared at Dex.
"Please, Dex. Just go," Joss sighed, obviously feeling tired. She actually liked Dex but knew that her boyfriend and Spencer were not keen on her having anything to do with him.
"Fine. I'm gone. See you around, Joss," Dex turned to leave.
Spencer and Cam watched him go and then relaxed once he was out the door.
"I'll be back. I have to go to the lady's room."
"It's right in the back. Do you want me to escort you?" Spencer offered.
"I'll be fine. I'll be back," Trina refused the offer.
The three friends watched her disappear into the crowd as she headed for the back of the club.
"Thanks, guys," Spencer collapsed into his chair, folding his arms over his chest, clearly annoyed.
"Hey, you were the one that made your way over here. We didn't call for you," Cam pointed out, giving his friend/cousin a teasing side-eye. "Don't worry, I'm sure that there are more slow dances to be had."
"You really think so?" Spencer arched a brow.
"With the way Trina was looking at you out there, I pretty much can guarantee it," Cam chuckled.
…..
Trina and Spencer stood on the docks together, smiling into each other's eyes. It had been a fun date of getting to know each other and Spencer's, now her's, friends. Now it was time to say goodnight and Trina found that she really didn't want to. She wanted to stay with him and talk. Get to know him even more, but she knew that it wouldn't be appropriate. All good things had to come to an end, especially awesome dates.
"So, the day after tomorrow. We do those galleries?" Spencer asked, wanting to reconfirm their second date.
"Yes. Maybe dinner….or something?" Trina smiled, liking the idea. She really couldn't wait to see him again.
"That would be awesome. Well...I guess this is a good night, Ms. Robinson. I will be seeing you soon."
"That you will, Mr. Cassadine," Trina smiled, ready for Spencer to step away, but instead of doing just that, he lowered his head and claimed her lips in a chaste, but lingering kiss good night.
Trina had been kissed a few times by a few prospective suitors, but none of those kisses made her toes curl and her breathing stop as her heart beat even faster. He pulled away with a small smile. She could tell by the look in his eyes that she had the same effect on him as he did on her.
"Good night, Trina," he breathlessly replied, making himself step away.
"Good night," Trina just stood there and watched as he boarded the launch and was soon gone into the darkness, heading back for his home on Spoon Island. She closed her eyes tight, wondering what she was doing? She was supposed to be here slaying Cassadines, not falling in love with them!
"Well, wasn't that sweet?" A voice interrupted Trina's thoughts.
Alarm bells went off in every inch of Trina's body as her Slayer senses screamed danger. She looked around for the source and gasped as an elderly blond woman stepped out of the shadows. The woman was pale, regal, and was dressed in white. She looked at Trina as if she was some gourmet meal, all ripe for eating. Her eyes gleamed with malice as she slowly approached. It was obvious that this woman was a vampire!
"Who are you?" Trina didn't take her eyes off the woman as she reached into her purse for the stake.
The woman laughed. "You were just kissing my great-grandson. I would think the new vampire slayer would know who I was, especially since it was that bothersome Luke Spencer that had sent for you."
"What?"
"Dear child, have you not heard of me? I am Helena Cassadine. The matriarch of the Cassadine family."
"Helena...wait...you're supposed to be dead….well...you are a vampire, of course, you're dead," Trina kicked herself.
Helena's laughter was cruel and hungry. "Of course I'm dead, you foolish girl. I am dead and I am going to make you wish that you had never stepped foot in this town. Normally I'd stay away from vampire slayers...but I can't have such a slip of a thing get in the way of my plans."
"I'm not a slip of a thing, Mrs. Cassadine," Trina took out her stake, ready to stake first and ask questions later.
Helena laughed at the sight of the stake. "Do you think that puny thing is enough to stop me, my dear? Think again."
Trina couldn't say how it happened. One minute, Helena was standing before her, taunting her, and the next, the vampiress had her by her throat, lifting her off the ground so her feet dangled and the stake? It lay useless below her feet.
"Vampire slayers shouldn't drink. It tends to slow their reflexes," Helena grinned, her face changing. "I heard that the blood of a slayer is the best around. It's time that I've found that out."
Helena opened her mouth, ready to sink her fangs into Trina's neck when suddenly a jet of water hit the vampiress, making her smoke and scream. Trina dropped to the ground as another stream of water knocked Helena back away from her. Stunned, Trina looked behind her to see Dex holding what looked to be a super-soaker water gun, firing it at Helena.
Screaming, Helena disappeared into the night, fleeing from the evil, scaring water.
Trina stared at Dex in stunned silence. He was a vampire, a souled one, and he had just saved her from being vamp food.
"You're welcome," Dex smirked, laying the super soaker down.
