When Dee turned down another beer, Ryo looked at him in surprise. It wasn't that his partner was a heavy drinker every night or anything, but he could usually be counted on to get plastered on special occasions, like closing a big case. Ryo didn't think he'd ever heard Dee refuse another round, especially when someone else was buying.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, I just don't wanna be stuck dealin' with a hangover come mornin'. Maybe ya haven't noticed, but I'm not as young as I used to be, I don't bounce back so easily from a night on the town, so I figured it was about time I started cuttin' back, takin' better care of myself."

"And when did you come to this momentous decision?"

"Uh, remember how hungover I was on New Year?"

"I remember." It wasn't something Ryo was about to forget; Dee had been groaning like he thought he was dying.

"Yeah, well, I told myself right then, never again."

"So basically, after persuading me not to make any New Year resolutions, you went and made one yourself? Doesn't that make you a hypocrite?"

"It's not a resolution." Dee sounded defensive. "Just a sensible decision."
