don't own Twilight. What I own is my character's behavior, personality, background, and plot of the story.

Author's Note at the end.

Edward looks up at Bella once she drops her hand down. He studies her face as she hides the scare. It's too impartial for someone who is about to talk about a scuicide attempt. A neutral expression could mean that the person has talked multiple times about the event and thus has managed to move on and make peace with it, but if he had to guess, it would be that Bella doesn't fit the category at all. Bella is so angry at the world all the time that she is barely concealing the war inside her. That makes her fit the second option better, someone who is detached completely from what she is about to describe.

Edward is broken from his thoughts when Bella finally speaks, "When I moved in with Charlie, he steamrolled me in everything. I don't think I was even in the right state of mind to recognize what he was doing. I was too struck by grief to see what was going on right under my nose."

Bella pauses, remembering the multiple times she did things just to appease him that he later viewed as the norm and not sacrifices on her part. "It was only when I got pregnant that I finally woke up," she mutters, shaking her head at her stupidity. "I should've run for the hills once he told me he wouldn't let me get an abortion."

Correction, you should have ran for the hells the moment he shot inches away from your head.

Bella throws her head back and barks a laugh that lacks any humor then chuckles as she tells him, "But no, stupid me didn't want to risk the loss of her dad and went along with Charlie's orders like a good girl. A lot of good it did me. As if becoming a mother before turning sixteen would make me the apple of her father's eyes."

Edward watches her face with horror, realizing that she is fighting not to cry. Fuck, she isn't as detached as he thought she would be.

Before he can stop himself, his hand shots to her back and he rubs it gently as he tells her, "You couldn't have known. A father is supposed to love you."

Bella is quiet for a second then she turns to face him and quietly murmurs, "Not Charlie. He loved no one. I should have seen it, but I was too busy chasing his love to notice that there was no love to chase."

Edward shakes his head as he tells her softly, "Sweetie, you were only sixteen. How could you have known any better?"

Bella smiles sadly at him and confesses, "I guess I never had a chance from the beginning. I was damned from the get go."

Edward opens his mouth to contradict her. It physically makes him ill to see her down.If there is someone out there that should always smile, it's Bella. She is right. She was damned from the get go. A sixteen year old kid should trust her dad. She should believe that he has her best interest at heart.

He watches as a tear slowly rolls down her face. He swipes the tear away and lets his hand linger on her face. He could have sworn then that she leaned into his hand. He drops his hand a couple of seconds later.

His heart aches for that teen girl who had no way of knowing all of the tragedies coming her way and before he can stop himself, he pulls her into his arms and hugs her tightly. Bella is stiff for three seconds and then relaxes against his chest. She takes a deep breath and lets her senses absorb the unique smell of lemon and cloves that is Edward.

Are you sure you want to go The Whole way? You could pretend like having a child was too much stress and what Charlie did to you then can die with him?

Easy for you to say. You don't live with what he did to me the way I do. What Charlie did will never die even after I die.

Finally Bella pulls away and ignores the sense of loss of the warmth that enveloped her as she hugged him then asks him in a pleading tone, "I gave up understanding Charlie's reasoning a while ago, so please don't ask me for an explanation for what I am about to say next."

Bella studies Edward's expression and once she is sure of his honesty, she continues, "Charlie operated as if he owned everything and everyone and he wanted to control it all. He wanted to make sure I would not get an abortion behind his back, so he made me drop out of high school. That way he ensured that I only left home for the things he approved of. He would put the fear of God in me. He would rattle off all of those scary statistics and always labeled his brand of crazy as protectiveness. I thought with time he would get more chill, or I would be able to reason with him, so I started taking high school classes online behind his back. I had saved up all of my modeling money when I was working and I was using it. I thought he didn't know about this bank account I was using but it turns out that he did."

Bella pauses as she feels her anxiety bubbling to the surface and fears that she will have a panic attack in front of Edward. "I'm thirsty. I'll get both of us something to drink and come back," she tells him then rushes out the door.

As she walks down the stair, she tries to make each breath last over five steps. Five breaths later, she finds herself at the bottom of the stairs. She fills the water heater with water then turns it on. In the first couple of seconds, she watches the water as it gets heated, but then she starts to feel her restlessness creeping in and starts pacing around her kitchen with half her mind having a meltdown while the other half trying to come up with a lie that sounds more sane than the unrealistic reality she should be telling him.

A whistle blows through the air and she knows that her time is over

I will tell him the truth. If he chooses to judge me for what happened then fuck him. He can go fuck himself. I will know that he is a victim blamer and kick him out of my life then I will figure out a way to get my revenge on him. I managed to send. Charlie to his maker. I imagine extracting my revenge on him would be even easier.

Four minutes later, Bella comes returns to the roof with a renewed sense of confidence. She places the mugs in front of both of them and then before he can say anything, starts talking. "He lost his shit when he found the money and I ended up lying to him saying that Phil sent the money to me. He went bat shit crazy and threatened to hurt Adam if I don't cut myself."

Edward spits what he was drinking and yells, "What?"

He swings around to look at Bella and finds her with a cool and serene expression on her face as if she didn't just say her dad almost killed her.

She places her hand on his knee and tells him in a calm tone, "Relax, he didn't want me dead. He had 911 on speed-dial. He just wanted to prove me unstable so he could take custody of Adam and control me for the rest of my life."

"What in the ever living fuck!"

Yep, Edward had said what he was thinking out loud, but in his defense, no one would do something like that to his future daughter.

"That doesn't make it any better. You could have died. Your dad risked killing you just so he could keep you under his thumb. Don't you see how crazy that is?" Edward exclaims in frustration. He was fucking angry at her dad for doing that to her, but more importantly, he is angry at Bella for not fighting back. What was she thinking? How could she stay this long under his roof? The man would have most definitely killed her. Where was Aro in all of this? What kind of a Godfather lets shit like that happen to his goddaughter?

In lightning speed, the expression on Bella's face drops and she glares at him and tells him in an icy tone, "Don't make me feel like some imbecile that doesn't know anything. I know how dangerous and terrible it was, but if I remind myself of how serious it was everyday, I will lose my mind. I tried my best and that is what ended up happening. I couldn't have had things happen any other way." She says the last sentence forcefully.

"I'm sorry. Of course you did ," he shakes his apologetically, looking at his feet. Edward feels like shit for what he said. He knows that it's not her fault and he shouldn't attack her, but he can't help his anger from seeping through.

Bella leans away from Edward into the side of the couch and drinks from her tea for a couple of minutes until she finishes half of it and places the mug on the outdoor table then tells him, "The thing you might not know about Charlie is that he owned Forks. Centuries ago, it was a Swan that founded the town. They even used to own half of the town. It was during the great depression that my great grandpa decided to give up most of the businesses to the locals and during the housing crisis his son gave many houses to the locals. While his father and grandfather ruled with love, my dad ruled with an iron fist. Yet that didn't stop many from worshiping the ground he walked on since being in his good graces meant being closer to power. When I was beaten badly and admitted to the hospital multiple times, no one was willing to report the abuse even though there was evidence of it. I tried to contact the police department in the closest towns to us, but it turned out that all of them were friends with Charlie."

Bella is quiet for a couple of minutes giving Edward time to absorb what she told him as she analyzes the expression on his face. She watches as multiple emotions pass through. She has never cared to know what anyone would think of what she went through. For the longest time she assumed that she will never trust anyone enough to share what she went through, but now she wishes she could read his mind and know what Edward is thinking. What he is thinking of her.

"It was then that I tried to commit suicide," Bella softly says. Edward looks at her in astonishment. He didn't expect that. He studies her face trying to see if she is telling the truth or pulling his leg. He sees nothing but honesty in her face.

"I had nothing to fight for. No one would believe me. My father had just almost killed me. I no longer had custody of my child. My mum was dead. What was the point?" She blinks away her tears as she stares into space.

"But you are okay now right?" Edward asks her breaking the silence after a couple of minutes.

She smiles at him and replies, "I am more than okay." And for the first time, she truly means it.

"The therapist of the hospital said something that stopped me in my tracks." She states pausing to sip from her tea then continues in a soft tone, "If you are willing to give up the fight that easily, then maybe the people in your life that need you are better off without you. That was when I realized that I couldn't let go or I would be leaving Adam alone. Adam was worth fighting for."

Both of them are quiet for a couple of minutes until Edward tells, "Thank you for trusting me with this. I can understand that yesterday and today have been quite a trigger for you." He has no idea what to say, or do with what she just told him and figures that that is a good time to stop.

Bella smiles at him. "You're welcome, but that's not why I told you all of this."

"Why then?" Edward wonders.

"I imagine when you see your friend, you will ask him why he would do that to himself and tell him that life is worth living, right?" she tells him, ending her statement with a question.

Edward nods his head in confusion wondering what's wrong with that. "The problem is that those questions ignore a fact about suicidal people. They have reached a point in which they no longer believe that their life is worth living or they are worth saving. They feel aimless and out of control. For many of them, committing suicide is the only action they can choose for themselves. You want to keep a suicidal person from dying? You give them something to do outside of themselves, you give them a war to fight in for someone else. You can't tell them to live for themselves because they will refuse to even think of anything that challenges their thoughts about themselves. You want to work with their belief system and then slowly chip away at it. A suicidal person is a ticking time bomb. You don't shoot it, you take it apart very slowly."

Edward thinks over Bella's words as he drives both of them to the hospital. Her words echo in Edward's head as he twists open the door of the hospital room. He pauses and looks back at Bella for reassurance and she gives him a thumbs up and an encouraging smile. He smiles back at her and feels a surge of energy go through him as he turns to face the door and pushes it open.

Now Edward knows part of what happens.

Hello lovely people,

This chapter was one of the more difficult chapter I have written. It was quite difficult to portray the mind of a suicidal person. Did you love it? Tell me your thought on this chapter and what you think will happen in the review section.

Until my next update,
