- Eames...
Logan walked over to Eames, who was dozing, her cheek resting on Goren's hand, which she held preciously in her hands.
Barek had warned Logan that Eames refused to leave Goren's side for even an inch.
That until he awoke from his coma, she would remain at his bedside.
And that could be a long time.
So Barek had advised him not to try anything.
But Logan still had to try to keep her away from Goren.
For her sake, and also because Deakins needed to see her.
Their captain needed to hear Eames' version of the accident, so he could finally hand in his report to their superiors.
Deakins had been very patient with Eames, and very understanding, not wanting to add to her pain.
But their superiors had become very insistent, even starting to harass him, and it was getting worse by the day.
Gently, Logan put his hand on Eames' shoulder and patted her.
- Eames... Wake up.
Wake up...
Could it be Goren...
But the intonation of his voice was different, much deeper.
Goren's voice was soft.
So it couldn't be him.
And the way he tapped her shoulder gently at first, and then, as time went on, his fingers became firmer, and shook her.
Good God...
This was definitely not Goren.
Goren always had his own way of waking her up.
But never this insistence.
So who could be doing this.
- Eames... Come on...
At the fingers and the more insistent voice, Eames felt the mustard rise to her nose.
Then she woke up, turned her face to the person who was insisting that she wake up, and glared at her.
Holy...
Logan.
What the hell did that mean...
And why was he here.
In addition, why was he hell-bent on waking her up.
Eames had been clear enough.
She wouldn't leave this room, or move an inch away from Goren, until he woke up.
So why bother.
Hadn't he understood.
Or should she set him straight, and tell him to leave her alone.
- Go away... And leave me alone.
At Eames's bitter words, Logan cleared his throat, put his hand on the back of his neck and looked away.
Barek had warned him.
And he should have known that Eames wouldn't welcome him.
Especially, given what he was about to ask him.
And Logan knew that was no way to win.
- If you're here... She looked at him, her big hazel eyes shining with suspicion. It's because you want to ask me something.
Good God...
Eames understood why he was here, but not why.
He was going to have to explain.
And given the look Eames was giving him, as if he were an undesirable, Logan was going to have to use the right formula, to get her to agree, to leave Goren's bedside, and his room at least for a few hours.
Or maybe Logan simply had to stop beating around the bush, and tell her the truth, and why he was there.
- Deakins needs you to go...
- No... That's out of the question.
At Eames's emphatic no, Logan felt increasingly uncomfortable in his shoes, jumping from one foot to the other.
Good God...
He absolutely had to change Eames' mind.
Logan had to.
Deakins needed her.
And suddenly, something clicked.
But yes...
That was the solution.
- I'd stay close to Goren... And if he wakes up...
- I said no. Eames was beginning to lose patience, screaming red-faced at Logan's insistence. I'm not leaving here.
Not leaving here.
Yes...
Logan understood that.
Good God...
How stubborn she could be.
He now understood why Goren and Eames got on so well.
Goren had somehow found his master in Eames.
Eames was the one who held the reins in their partnership.
Controlling Goren's changing moods.
And knowing how to control him.
- Why do you insist...
At her words, Logan snapped out of his thoughts, only to fall in front of the red face of an Eames who was losing her patience.
Name of God...
Logan was in a bad way.
Why was he insisting...
But it was for a good cause.
Did Eames think he was enjoying trying to separate her from Goren, and especially suffering his wrath.
Worst of all, the more he tried to convince her to listen to him, the more she braced herself, not letting him finish his sentences, and he was entitled to her wrath.
It really seemed impossible to get a word in edgewise, and get her to listen to him.
- Eames...
Name of God..
Logan wasn't going to go on.
Eames had had more than enough.
And she wanted to be left alone with Goren.
Couldn't Logan stop insisting and leave her alone?
Didn't he understand that nothing he could say would change her mind, and certainly not leave Goren's side.
She refused to.
Eames wanted to be there, the moment he woke up.
So if she left him for even a moment, she'd miss that moment.
And she wouldn't want that for the world.
- Daekins is being harassed by our superiors because of the accident report.
The accident report.
At his words, her heart sank, and she relived the whole awful night she'd spent.
Tears welled up in her eyes, and an immense sadness painted itself on her face.
At the immense sadness that had just appeared on Eames' face, where a few tears were beading at her big hazel eyes, Logan was angry at himself for having alluded to the accident.
He knew that Eames hadn't recovered from the accident, from what had happened to Goren.
She felt responsible.
And he'd used the wrong formula, wounding her unintentionally.
-Eames... I...
No.
Eames didn't want to hear any excuses.
She knew Logan hadn't brought up the accident to hurt her.
But Eames couldn't bear to hear about it.
It was so recent, and so painful.
And seeing Goren in that hospital bed, and in a coma, didn't help.
Reminding him of his guilt.
- Don't apologize.
For God's sake...
So Eames didn't blame him for what he'd just said.
It was really intentional.
Barek often told him to turn his tongue seven times before speaking.
Maybe he should listen to him once in a while.
Especially since Barek was a person of good sense.
Thinking of a sensible person, Deakisn's face appeared.
Good God...
Logan couldn't let him down.
Even if it meant getting Eames to leave Goren's side, even against his will.
- Eames... What I said about Deakins...
Yes...
Eames had heard perfectly well.
But was the lie true.
Was Deakins really being harassed by their superiors.
All this for a report.
Eames turned his face to Goren's.
Thinking about their superiors, Eames remembered how they were with Goren, always on his back.
And most of all, Eames remembered how always Deakins had taken his side at the risk of getting a reprimand.
Yes.
Logan wasn't lying.
If he'd come to her about Deakins, it must be true.
And she knew very well what Goren would tell her if he were wide awake, and on his own two feet.
- Go help Deakins.
Reluctantly, and hesitantly, Eames resigned herself.
But could she really leave him.
He was so fragile right now.
And he needed her.
- I'll stay with Goren until you come back.
So at Logan's words, with a heavy heart, Eames nodded, stood up.
- Very well... But...
- I'll let you know right away if he wakes up.
Eames approached Goren, still holding his hand in hers.
She leaned her face towards his, brought her hand to his forehead, where a rebellious half-beige, half-ashen lock of hair was, and gently placed it back.
- I'll be right back, Bobby... I'm doing this for Deakins.
Reluctantly, Eames stepped away from Goren, removed her hand from his, and headed for the door, where she stopped, and turned one last time, to see a Logan taking a chair, and sitting down next to Goren.
- I'm counting on you, Logan.
Logan turned to Eames, nodded, looking grave, and watched as Eames left the room, closing the door behind her, and leaving him alone with Goren.
