Chapter 48: Microwave
Shizuo had never thought he would feel unsettled by the sight of a police station.
Yet here he was, shitting his pants at the sight of an officer. The clock in the entrance hall tocked louder and louder by the second as the middle aged man in front of him checked his papers of admission.
"Name?" he asked as he filled out the formula needed to gain access to the captive.
Mind wiped blank for just a second Shizuo frantically wrecked his head for what name the guy on the phone had called him.
"Ah. There you are, Orihara is waiting for you."
Shizuo had never been more glad for nosey people. An officer having stood by the side had drawn closer to inspect his admission papers.
Quickly signing them off he pulled them from his colleagues grasp as he signed down the hallway.
"Down the corridor. On the right."
A tired nod was given by the first officer and Shizuo moved.
He felt highly uncomfortable. Be it the heavy watch, the tie around his neck, or the overall stares his new look provided, they all made him feel like he had been busted long ago.
Were they still searching for him?
Grasping the handle of the empty suitcase a little tighter he took a deep breath before entering the interrogation room.
It was well lit unlike most movies suggested, and Izaya apparently had neither been cuffed to the desk nor restrained in any other way.
An officer stood by the door and gave a quick nod as he left and Izaya-
Izaya glared at Shizuo?
A bit confused as to how he had angered the flea already, he swiftly took his seat opposite to Izaya.
"Sorry, I'm late-"
It was only then that recognition finally burst Izaya's tension as he got thrown into a laughing fit.
"Shizu-chan? What the hell did you do?" It took Shizuo a couple more seconds until he realized that Izaya hadn't recognized him- that's what the glare had been for.
And another to understand that those two devil's sisters had massively exaggerated when adjusting his new cover.
"They said it was necessary!' he hissed between tight lips feeling the uncomfortable heat of embarrassment rise to his face.
Izaya merely laughed, growing more and more amused by his attempt to rectify the action. "And you believed them?"
Sighing deeply, Shizuo leant back in his chair. Well.
Izaya was laughing.
At the end of the day even if his outfit was exaggerated it had at least managed to cheer the flea up.
Arms crossed he shrugged, "... kinda. They act like you, like they know what they are doing."
Flattered just slightly by the implied compliment, Izaya leaned forward as he let his chin rest on his palm.
Dropping lower his voice took on a more serious note. "I take it that means they are safe?"
Despite the faintest hint of a teasing smile that had somehow settled on Izaya's face, Shizuo could tell that he was worried sick.
"Of course what do you take me for?" Relief washed away the tension in Izaya's eyes as he closed them for a brief moment.
"Thought so. Good job."
Shizuo didn't think it was.
Izaya was trapped in this damned police station. They accused him of randomly raping or even killing people without knowing even the slightest thing about him-
Be it the way he cared for his sisters, the fact that he had never once harmed a person or the sheer grotesque treatment he had had to endure in silence for the past years…. Shizuo felt as though there had to be more he could do.
It fascinated him at the very least.
The way Izaya just sat there and took everything coming his way as if it was natural.
"... what about you?" he asked quietly.
Izaya smiled. He didn't mean to, but somehow the question just brought an unfamiliar joy.
"Worried?" he asked, but the question was quite obsolete, really. He could see Shizuo was, from the way his brows furrowed and his eyes glared at each and everyone of these officers.
If not for that than the gentleness layered in his golden eyes, was a dead giveaway.
"Of course." He answered, just as expected.
It assured Izaya more than he was willing to admit.
Mouth opening he wanted to reply something - but what was he even supposed to say? Thank you? No need to? He was aware of his current situation and so was Shizuo.
…how far did those feelings of his go?
No. No words could possibly explain what he wanted to convey.
And so he leaned forward. Swift, like a butterfly landing on the tip of a rose's petal, his lips met Shizuo's.
It was an action saying so little yet so much at the same time.
Brief as the moment was it brought a quite puzzled yet pleased expression to Shizuo's face as Izaya backed off again.
"Thanks for the meal," Izaya chuckled. It was a joke of course, as if a little kiss like this was going to be worth anything.
Shizuo knew that.
And yet- why was it that the action made Izaya seem so god damn irresistible?
Shizuo was worried, he was scared what might happen to Izaya, he was delighted because he could see him, because he kissed him and then there was just this burning desire suddenly having sprung forth from nowhere that asked him to pull the flea up against the next possible wall to fuck the living daylights out of him-
And god damnit, it certainly didn't help when Izaya licked those all too kissable pale lips in a teasing wink.
What the hell was wrong with his head?
"They should drop all investigation in one week's time," Izaya suddenly said and god damn Shizuo had never been glader for his rants. "A week is doable," he continued, "I have managed something similar with that rat."
It took a moment until Shizuo's mind caught up with what Izaya was talking about.
Sex.
He was talking about how long he was going to survive here without raising any suspicion or die.
The number was the only thing irking Shizuo as he blinked.
"I thought you needed energy at least every second day-" At least that's what Izaya had told him when they agreed to their… appointments.
A tinge of guilt seemed to flash across Izaya's expression, as well as a hint of amusement.
"... I kinda stretched the truth a bit there. I feared you might change your mind so I needed a back up plan in case you ditched me. Well and after a while it was too late to turn back."
Shizuo wasn't quite sure how to feel about that revelation. From Izaya's point of view it made sense, but from Shizuo's…
He had really planned to go back to Hachiro if something went wrong.
It unsettled Shizuo as much as it angered him to think about the waste of human life.
"How long can you go without meeting me?" he asked and Izaya showed his best smile as he replied.
"Six days."
Six-
Disbelief showed on Shizuo's expression as he recalled Izaya's earlier words.
The investigation, what had Izaya said about the duration?
"You will be here for six-" Shizuo's guts churned at his own words as he realized just how closely aligned these two time spans were.
Izaya on the other hand didn't even seem fazed as he showed a perfectly content smile.
"Perfect isn't it?"
Perfect-
"Too perfect." Shizuo frowned, casting a sideway glance towards the mirror inside the room. "What if you end up vanishing too early?" he whispered quietly, just to make sure nobody heard his words.
Izaya shook his head eagerly as he dismissed Shizuo's worries.
"That's what I called you here for~! I wanted to make sure you will be there when I get released." Growing a tad more serious his expression took on a bitter note. "And in the rare case that they lock me up for longer I hope you can get it up inside a cell."
Get it-
Feeling a headache approach, Shizuo groaned as he let his elbows lean onto the table. Rubbing the center of his temples did close to nothing to ignore what Izaya had just planned.
"You want to-'' he faded out, understanding before he could finish his question.
He didn't need to ask.
This was the reason Izaya had voluntarily turned himself in. The idea he had had when noticing that time had stopped for much longer than he had anticipated.
Izaya planned to stop the time when Shizuo was there to … get his fix so to say, without anyone noticing as he stopped time.
Shizuo wasn't about to complain about the place and time considering they had fucked in an alley before. But having him plan this stuff was still both awkward and dangerous.
"You are crazy-" Shizuo sighed, only drawing forth a confident smile from his counterpart.
"No, just smart." Izaya empathized, "They might think they know everything about incubus, but they are wrong. For one thing they don't even get half of what we are saying at the moment, so you don't have to whisper."
So the police didn't know about the powers incubus developed?
… seemed fair, Shizuo had never heard about that part before either, and he actually was one.
Izaya on the other hand…
Again Shizuo became heavily aware of the burden Izaya had to live with.
Anger filled his mind quicker than he could control it.
"I can just beat them up."
Instant worry popped up in Izaya's expression as he showed an unsure smile.
"Ah, no, that's a bad idea. Where did that come from?" It wasn't like he didn't appreciate Shizuo looking out for him like this.
Hell, he knew the guy was serious when he said he was going to just send them to the ground.
And that was exactly why his obvious anger was this dangerous. Clearing his throat he quickly reached for Shizuo's hand in a calming manner.
"Take care of the two devils for me. And maybe drop by for a visit or two," he requested instead.
The madness still didn't budge from Shizuo's eyes, but it seemed he was at least willing to listen as he met his gaze.
"Will it be suspicious to drop by daily?" Izaya snorted. Flattering. "Not if you continue pretending to be my lawyer."
A moment of silence followed in which Shizuo reached for that hand sitting on top of his own. A thoughtful expression decorated his face as he lifted his face.
"So now you want to-"
Realizing what conclusion Shizuo had reached, Izaya quickly shook his head as he retracted his hands. "Ah, no, don't get me wrong I would love to have you bend me over the table," he snorted, "But as I said earlier, that's just a last resort. I don't quite fancy getting fucked under these conditions."
Relief displayed on Shizuo's expression as he nodded in agreement.
"Glad we agree," he snorted and the anger dissipated from his eyes.
It was then that the door to the interrogation room opened. The officer that had led Shizuo to Izaya was standing in the door frame as he nudged his head towards the clock.
"Time is up," he announced, and Shizuo realized they had been talking for quite a while despite the ten minute mark. Izaya had probably stopped time every few moments to get as much out of this conversation as possible.
Clearing his throat, Shizuo rose from the chair.
"Very well Mr. Orihara. I will keep you updated," he announced, and Izaya's eyes held a certain tinge of amusement in them as he watched Shizuo act to his best conscience.
"Please do."
Too soon was the door closed to the interrogation chamber. Too soon Shizuo found a taxi back home. And even though he took various detours on his way to the secret hideout for Izaya's sisters, he felt the route was way shorter than it was supposed to be.
Keys clattered against the metal lock of the door as Shizuo stepped inside the apartment.
As soon as he did the smell of something burnt and rotten eggs filled his nose and he quickly covered his face.
"Ah! Hi! How did it go?" Mairu was faster to speak than Shizuo was to swear as she approached Shizuo with a plate holding an abomination of food. Mairu was sitting in the kitchen with various cleaning utensils at hand as she smiled towards Shizuo.
"... what the hell happened here?"
A grin was shown and Mairu didn't even hesitate or hold any amount of shame it seemed as she held out the plate with the horrendous pile of white and orange.
"We microwaved an egg."
Kururi nodded, as she agreed, "Exploded."
Raising his hand to his temple Shizuo suppressed a groan as he felt his thred of patience tear slightly.
Izaya-
God damnit.
That idiot seemed to be fine inside that cell, at least for now. He was the one being locked up- and yet- Why did Shizuo feel he had it worse with those two catastrophic demons in his care?
A full six days with them? How in hell was he supposed to do that?
