- Why are you doing this Logan.
Why is Logan doing this.
What kind of question was that.
Logan wanted to check that Goren had no memory, and above all to see if, as Eames had said, the doctors weren't mistaken in their diagnosis.
Eames had kept telling him that all the doctors were charlatans, and that she was going to prove to them that Goren could recover his memory, and that they were wrong.
So Logan lent himself to Eames' words, and went to great lengths to find out if Goren still had memories.
And by any means necessary.
But the trick with the books, which they disturbed to put them on the desk in front of Goren, and in disarray, was a sure-fire way, especially when you knew that Goren was the kind of person who was maniacal about his books.
And the way Goren reacted proved that Eames wasn't wrong, and that the doctors were wrong.
Goren had retained his old pre-accident reflexes.
His face was so expressive, showing his annoyance.
So all might not be lost, and Goren might get his memory back.
- So we're bothering Goren.
At Deakins' voice, and his footsteps approaching them, Logan snapped out of his thoughts, to see him stop right beside them.
- I'm not bothering him. Logan put the book in his hands back where it belonged, as Goren looked on in shock and amazement. I was just checking something.
I was just checking on something.
Logan wasn't bothering him.
He was just checking something.
But what a liar.
And he lied with such aplomb.
What nerve.
Besides, what could it have been that Logan was trying to check, disrupting the order of the books and scattering them all over the desk.
Especially since, when Deakins arrived, Logan had correctly arranged the book he was holding in his hands.
It was as if he'd been playing with it.
What did that mean.
- Bobby...
At Alexa's voice, Goren snapped out of his thoughts and looked up at her.
But his heart sank at the sight of her face.
Alexa's face was so sad, her eyes were red and puffy.
That could only mean one thing.
Alexa had been crying.
Good God...
What could have made his little angel cry.
He turned his gaze to the little woman with the brown curls standing by Alexa's side, who was looking at Alexa full of concern.
If he remembered correctly, the little brunette in question was called Barek.
This had been easy for Logan to remember.
He'd even come up with a nickname for himself, the troublemaker.
But right now, Goren wasn't interested.
He couldn't take his eyes off Alexa.
She was so sad, and he didn't like it.
He was worried about her.
Why hadn't she come to him.
He would have listened to her, and even given her a little kiss to soothe her.
Goren had seen that as soon as he kissed Alexa, all traces of sadness or worry disappeared from his face, to be replaced by passion.
But thinking of the passion smoldering inside Alexa, he pulled himself together, thinking only of the sadness on her face.
Had she confided in Barek.
If so, why hadn't she thought of him first.
Alexa knew he was there for her, just as she was there for him.
It wasn't fair for her to think of someone else, before thinking of him.
But if Alex had done this.
Could he be the cause of her sadness.
My God...
Anything but this.
He wouldn't, couldn't be the cause of Alexa's grief.
With Goren's insistent brown gaze on her, and the features of his face shifting from concern to guilt, Eames understood that Goren had understood that something had happened, and that he was feeling somehow responsible.
Strangely enough...
Goren always had this side to him, always feeling responsible, even when he hadn't done anything.
Could it be that the tortured man he'd always been wasn't just a memory, but still very much present.
And so, if that was the case, Eames absolutely had to put on a brave face, and make him think of something else.
Because Eames couldn't let him think that.
Especially since he was in no way responsible for her sadness.
- Logan... Barek... Eames turned his gaze on Logan, then on Barek, looking at each in turn. Come eat at the house tonight.
What.
Let that pest come home for dinner, with Barek.
A no.
Goren disagreed.
Besides, what was Logan going to find to bother him again.
And if they came home for dinner tonight, Goren couldn't be alone with Alexa.
And he wouldn't be able to ask her what had made him sad, or even steal a few kisses.
These two were going to stop him.
Why had Alexa invited them.
Didn't she want to be alone with him.
At the pout that formed on Goren's lips, Logan couldn't keep his lips from stretching into a big smile.
But Goren didn't seem to like the idea of them even eating together.
As if the fact that they were there would prevent him from being alone with Eames.
Could it be...
Oh... Oh...
If so, it was getting interesting.
And gave Logan only one thought, to check his doubts.
- We'll be glad to come.
At Logan's words, and the taunting brown eyes he set on him, Goren felt the mustard rise to his nose.
But he was taunting him.
What the hell was that.
Could it be that Logan had his eye on Alexa, and that tonight he wouldn't hesitate to make him understand.
If that was the case, well, he'd put it back.
Alexa was his, and his alone.
It was with him that she shared kisses, all shy at first, then fiery, revealing the fragile, passionate woman she was.
And so, for Logan, it was too late.
Or so Goren hoped.
He hoped Alexa hadn't set her sights on Logan, and that it wasn't all just kisses between them.
And that there was more.
At least, that's how he felt every time he kissed her.
But maybe he'd been wrong.
No.
t couldn't be.
And if it did, he'd stop Alexa from falling into Logan's arms at any cost.
But that big smile on Logan's face, and the look that taunted him, didn't please Goren at all, and only made him want to...
- Bobby... You're coming...
At Eames' questioning voice, Goren snapped out of his thoughts to see Alexa looking at him.
- We're going home.
Home.
Yes.
It was much better this way, or he'd end up putting his point on Logan's face.
And Goren could get ready for tonight, find every strategy to keep Alexa from ending up next to Logan, or alone with him.
Proud of this resolution, he pushed aside the chair at his desk, and stood up.
- Goren... He turned to Deakins, who was holding out his hand. Come and see us whenever you like.
Goren nodded, took Deakins' hand in his and squeezed it warmly.
- I'd be delighted to come back.
Goren let go of Deakins' hand and followed Eames.
She stopped at the exit and turned to Deakins, Logan and Barek, who were watching.
- See you both tonight... Barek and Logan nodded, and Eames turned her face to Deakins. You'll come for dinner one night with Mrs. Deakins.
Come with his wife.
But Angie was going to be ecstatic.
When Deakins knew she kept imagining that Goren and Eames would end up in a romance sooner or later.
When he'd told her that Goren's condition meant he had to live with Eames, his wife had gone into a tizzy.
Much to Deakins' despair, he didn't try to argue with her.
He knew there was no point.
- I'll be sure to tell Angie. Deakins waved his hand. She'll be delighted to come.
Eames and Goren turned to head for the elevator, watched by Deakins, Logan and Barek, who watched them walk away, then disappear from sight.
