Roman, Seth and Foggy sat in awkward silence while eating. She had come down for dinner when asked. It hurt Roman to see her wearing almost nothing but he knew she didn't have anything longer with her in the bag she brought.
"Foggy, would you like some other clothes? I can send Seth out to buy some for you," Roman said.
"I would like that," Foggy said. "Thanks."
"Just write down your size, what you'd like and your favorite color, and I'll be on it," Seth said.
"I don't care as long as it covers my ass when I bend over," Foggy said.
"Her favorite color is green," Roman said.
Foggy looked up and caught Roman's eyes. He tried with a smile and she managed to give him a little one back.
"Alright, green sweatpants and turtleneck sweater," Seth joked. "I'll try my best."
"You can trust Seth. He knows what he's doing," Roman said.
"Like I could trust Dean?" Foggy asked.
"Seth is nothing like Dean," Roman said.
"How do I know that? How do you even know that? You trusted Dean. How do you know Seth won't stab you in the back too?" Foggy asked.
"I..." Roman looked over at Seth. "I just do."
"Real assuring," Foggy said.
Foggy put her fork down and dried her mouth with her napkin.
"Thank you for dinner. I'm done for tonight," Foggy said.
"I've killed 23 people," Seth said.
Foggy's eyes widened and she stared at Seth.
"Only 4 of them have been found and that's because I wanted them to be found. I made them look like suicides as I was paid to do. I've also saved 87 people throughout my long career. You're actually the 8th woman I've found who's been sold to human trafficking. The people I've killed are bad people that deserved it. I've beaten up more than I can remember, and I've donated more money to animal charities than I can remember too. I'm not a good person and I'm not a bad person. I'm a man with certain skills that can be hired for a job. Roman hired me when you went missing. I've spent five years tracking down every little lead I could find on you, and I finally found you. That's how you know you can trust me. Because I found you and I made sure to get you out of that house to tell you that you've been found. Whether or not you wanna stay found or go missing again is up to you, but never doubt how trustworthy I am," Seth said.
Foggy put her napkin down and kept her eyes on Seth.
"Why did you get into the type of work?" Foggy asked.
"Foggy," Roman sighed.
"I'm not talking to you, Roman," Foggy held up a finger in Roman's direction. "I'm talking to Seth. Why did you start doing this, Seth?"
"That's personal," Roman said.
"No, it's alright," Seth said. "I lost my fiance a month before our wedding. She got into drugs and was really good at hiding it at first. Unfortunately a drug habit needs money. More money than she had so she started stealing. One day she was so desperate that she tried stealing drugs from her dealer. He chased her down and slit her throat as a warning to everyone else. They found her body dumped in a field two days later. She had been beaten so badly before he finally finished her that I could hardly recognize her. That day I swore revenge, and I got it. I learned I was good at it and I decided to turn it into a career. I swore never to fall in love again but spend all my time helping those that paid good enough."
"That's sad," Foggy said.
"Maybe," Seth shrugged. "But it's the truth, and it's my choice."
Foggy turned her eyes to Roman. He actually had tears in his eyes over hearing the short version of Seth's story. He knew it by heart. Seth had gone into all the details about everything throughout the years but it still made him sad.
"How much have you paid him so far?" Foggy asked.
"I don't know. It's just a drop in the ocean. I'm not running out of money in this lifetime," Roman said.
"Whatever it is, it's not enough," Foggy said.
"I like her," Seth chuckled.
"He gave up love to chase bad guys. I know he didn't give it up for you but he's been trying to help you find love again while denying it himself. You better fucking make sure he can retire in luxury when the time comes," Foggy said.
Foggy stood up and gave Seth's shoulder a squeeze.
"I choose to trust you for now. I don't know how I'll feel next week but right now you got my trust," Foggy looked at Roman. "So do you. You better not fuck me over again."
"I never did in the first place," Roman said.
"You keep saying that," Foggy said.
"Because it's the truth," Roman stood up. "I love you, Foggy. I've always fucking loved you. I'm not sending you back to that house."
"You have to," Foggy said. "I'm gonna go to bed."
Foggy walked past Roman while the back of her fingers slid over his hand. He tried grabbing her hand but she moved it away too fast for him.
"If you could have anything in the world, what would it be?" Seth asked.
Foggy turned and looked at Seth.
"Right now?" Foggy asked. "I don't know. Dean's head on a platter maybe. He's the reason I'm there."
"I can make them all disappear for you," Seth said.
"I can't pay," Foggy said.
"I can," Roman said.
"While you two are busy playing Game Of Thrones in your fantasies, I'm gonna go to bed," Foggy said.
Foggy walked out of the kitchen and upstairs to the room she had chosen to sleep in. Roman looked at Seth and sighed.
"Let me gather a team. We'll storm in there tonight and kill them all," Seth said.
"We gotta be smart about this. She knows them better than we do. She mentioned one of the girls actually wanting it. We need to know who so you don't fall to an unknown factor. There's also the problem of cops knowing about this place and using it. We don't know if they have a panic button or a direct line that will have them show up and take you down. I'd like for you to stay alive, you know. I kinda like having you in my life," Roman said.
"I kinda like being in your life," Seth smirked. "Alright, big player, let's sleep on it and figure out tomorrow what to do."
