As Jaune was getting ready to leave, he remembered that he was currently missing half of his head and his brain was exposed at the moment.
I should probably cover that up, I don't want any more of it to go missing.
He looked around for a moment and then approached the blue haired dead boy impaled by feathers, Jaune took off a blue pauldron from the corpse's shoulder and strapped it over his gaping head wound.
That's good enough. Wait, what's that?
Near the corpse's feet and resting on the ground was a halberd of sorts, only it looked a little odd. The spear tip was missing and the pole was hollow. Jaune continued to examine the weapon and he found that the pole had a grip with a trigger.
Another polearm gun?
Perhaps that sort of weapon wasn't as rare as he had first considered them to be, but before he could continue this line of realization the flying Grimm squawked loudly in the sky. The cry was followed by a booming explosion and Jaune saw pink smoke drifting off the monster, he also saw the orange haired girl fall for a second before a platform appeared beneath her feet and then she was flung back up.
Pyrrha Nikos was also running through the sky on a series of platforms that appeared beneath her feet and disappeared after each step. Both the airborne fighters didn't show any signs of acknowledgement for the platforms, their focus seemed to be entirely on killing the Grimm.
That's pretty cool.
For a moment Jaune just decided to watch the fight, and although it was clear the two girls were doing the most damage they could only do so with the platform's support. White and black snowflakes would maneuver their bodies, allowing them complete control of the airfield, and the snowflakes also blocked feathers and redirected the large swinging Dust deposits.
Jaune blinked his only good eye.
Is Dust something Huntsman used? I thought it was only used for industrial purposes.
The orange haired girl had claimed she could get stronger because of it and Snow Angel claimed she could make use of it to make Pyrrha move faster. Jaune focused on his inherited education, and although Yang didn't really pay attention in class she had indeed understood what people used Dust for.
Oh wow, that's also pretty cool.
Apparently people could weave it into clothes and imbue it into weapons. Some people would even implant it into their bodies. Now that he understood the combat value of Dust, he realized that Huntsman did use it and so he would have to learn about it too.
And so looked around, when he had used his other sight to see the injured people's Souls and he had spotted something else in the bright world, something that resembled the glow from the large Dust deposits. One the ground near a bent dagger was a small container holding four vials of Dust.
Burn, Ice, Wind and Lightning.
Jaune listed off the Dust types as he picked up the container and examined its contents, then he tapped the glass with a finger, and although his flesh stopped his finger felt the Dust. It was an odd sensation, the instant his Soul met the Dust, he couldn't feel the shape of his finger anymore, and it was sticky so he had to exert force to remove his finger.
A few large black feathers rained down through the gaping roof, narrowly avoiding any of the still living body's, and also Jaune himself.
Oh yeah, a fight is happening. I'll put this on hold for now.
He pocketed the vials of Dust and began to make his way out the ice dome, and since he didn't have a ranged weapon, he grabbed the polearm gun that probably belonged to a dead boy. "You don't mind, right?" He asked the soulless corpse who didn't object.
The sight of the two girls fighting the Grimm in the sky was something he witnessed from inside the dome, but he hadn't seen what Snow Angel had been upto. She was standing in a clear with her rapier aimed towards the sky, and she flicked it about almost frantically in the direction of the mashed up Creatures of Darkness.
Silly Angel, you can't reach it from the ground.
And in her other hand she was wielding a dagger, one that was identical to the bent one inside the dome, and every she was swinging arcs of fire towards Beowolves who were starting to surround her.
As Jaune got closer he noticed that she was drenched in sweat and she was currently panting hard. He also noticed that in both the rapier and the dagger were containers holding vials of Dust.
Oh cool, maybe she could teach me more about how to use Dust.
Since he wanted her to teach him, something she couldn't do if she was devoured by the Grimm around her, he needed to save her. Jaune took out his sword and, after a moment of magnetizing it he also made it alter its gravity, and flung it forward towards the swarm. A white blur swam through a sea of black.
"Hey Snow Angel, do you have time fo- no wait, you're busy right now." Jaune remembered the massive monster as he was about to ask for Dust lessons.
Snow Angel didn't react to his entrance or his words.
"What was it again? There was something I wanted to say, uh, um, uhhh, oh yeah! So there's an invisible head behind the body and nestled between the large chunks of Dust." He almost forgot about the tidbit of information.
Snow Angel scrunched up her face at his words.
"Ah, but if it's invisible how would you girls break it? Hmm? Ooh, I got it." Jaune racked his ability to think of a plan. "Can you bring it down a little closer? My sword can't fly that far from my body, so I won't be able to mark it if it's that high up."
Snow Angel's face shifted before she raised the dagger in her other hand and then she waved both of her weapons frantically in the air.
What's the point in- the platforms, she's controlling the platforms.
Jaune felt a cramp occur in his thoughts, information wasn't traveling properly so even though he relied on her abilities for his plan he didn't understand Snow Angel. He shook off his confusion and watched as the two girls, he couldn't recognize their features, shot through that air at highspeeds.
The red and gold blur decapitated the two snakes heads and the bird head, and then the orange and pink blur was shot down from above and smashed into the Grimm's exposed center mass. From the impact point another large pink explosion went off, however this one was at least four times more intense than the previous one.
Jaune felt hot wind brush over his skin and Snow Angel flinched next to him before the shockwave reached them
In the next instant from the explosion, the monster smashed into the ground with an audible crunch and a loud thud shook the forest and the clearing. With the invisible head in range, Jaune's sword shot forward and impaled itself through its thick skull, unfortunately the creature was large enough that his blade couldn't reach anything vital.
And then from the sky, a girl with red hair took a step and shattered the platform beneath her feet as her outstretched arm swung down. Jaune could barely make out a red and black blur that shot down, he almost heard something shatter but then the air distorted violently and exploded like thunder. Another shockwave reached him, but this one was pure sound and then complete silence. His eardrums had ruptured and were now slowly healing.
As the massive Grimm started to dissolve and fade away, Jaune made his sword come back to him and he sheathed it before he checked in on the other fighters.
Snow Angel had collapsed to her knees, and although he couldn't hear he could see her take desperate gasps for air. She had dropped the dagger and was currently pointlessly grasping at her chest.
I should probably give her some help.
And so Jaune knelt next to her and touched her back, Snow Angel spasmed as his Aura entered her body. She was definitely exhausted and she had used up most of her own Aura, so he gave some of his own and then he gave her some complementary Sludge for doing such a good job. For some reason she began throwing up, so he moved on.
A few feet from the Grimm, he found the orange haired girl. Her skin was scarred with lightning and scorch marks, but since he could see a white zaps slowly eating away at the injuries he moved on to the red haired girl. Who was currently stumbling around on her feet with a large smile as she gazed over at the fading corpse.
"…" Her mouth moved when she noticed him, and she smiled again.
Jaune almost pointed at his injured ears, when he realized something. Ghosts didn't need physical ears to hear, so neither did he. Something twitched within his ears and then sounds from the world filled his hearing. "Could you repeat that? Your explosion deafened me a bit."
"I'm sorry! I was just having so much fun that I forgot to hold back!"
"Hey… Pyrrha, so what's the deal with ownership? Like who gets the Dust? Is it Beacon's because we're their students?" Jaune asked as he eyed the four large Dust deposits.
Pyrrha, a name he remembered, laughed lightly. "Jaune, I don't think this is a common enough occurrence for any laws to be in place for Dust possessed by Grimm, but since it was found on Beacon grounds, I'd say yes, it probably belongs to them."
"Drats." Jaune huffed. "Oh yeah, do you need any help?" He suddenly remembered that he was on a medical hunt.
"No no, I just need a moment to catch my breath." And then she held out her hand, a warped lump of red and gold metal shot out from beneath ground by her feet, a black haze surrounded the metal lump which slowly reformed into her spear.
"Cool."
Pyrrha's face flushed slightly from his admiration before she turned away. "I'll go look for a relic." She said and walked away.
With all his medical work done, and the fighting over, he shifted his attention elsewhere. The large chunks of Dust.
If I could float without using my own form of gravity manipulation, then I could just focus on dragging myself through the air.
So with that in mind, he began trying to get some Gravity Dust crystals from the large chunk. He successfully extracted a few, some had almost floated away from his grasp but he caught them in time, but he stopped when his partner came back with a chess piece in hand. "Oh, and Weiss said she wanted some help form us."
"Weiss?" Jaune blinked at the unfamiliar name.
"Weiss Schnee," Pyrrha paused and then added, "the girl from the locker room."
"Oh, I've just been calling her Snow Angel, I completely forgot she probably had a real name." He admitted as he made his way over to the ice… well it was a dome anymore.
The orange haired girl was up and crying over the slowly breathing body of the black haired boy.
Yang was trying and failing to stand up straight, and her sister Ruby was crawling with her arms and faintly moving legs over to her.
Weiss, Snow Angel, was standing over the still unconscious body of the boy with short brown hair and then she looked at Jaune. "Could you carry this boy?"
"Sure." Jaune agreed, and honestly none of the sights he saw caught his attention, none except for one. The bow girl, her flesh unmarked, stood over the charred body of the person wearing the same leggings as her. "Hey, you're, uh?" He didn't quite know what he was trying to ask or say.
"Don't worry about her." Weiss spoke back up. "Her clone and I will carry her body."
Clone? That's super cool.
It was also confusing to a small part of his thinking, and that small portion of intelligence activated his Ethereal Sight in the gap where his eye was still missing.
The bow girl's clone was entirely made of Aura and she lacked a Soul Anchor, at the rate that her Aura was diminishing she wouldn't have a body in a few minutes. What's more, she wasn't linked to her real self and there was a gap at her center. His logical side, far removed from his fear, used his End Sight and he saw that death was resting in that gap.
Not so cool.
The way back was uneventful, well aside from the clone fading away and then another one reforming in her place, so Jaune's Initiation at Beacon ended without a hitch. And unfortunately his mental awareness had taken a large setback, so he would have to wait a little bit longer before he could think straight.
