It had been about a week since Caroline had called Klaus about the men that were after her. While they remained in contact, there wasn't much progress happening. At least not in that situation. Klaus and Caroline's situation seemed to have shifted and he was cautiously optimistic of what that could mean for them in the future.
As for today, Klaus was more impatient and everyone in the room could feel it. Anytime he slammed a book closed it made people in the room flinch. If Damien had to guess it would have to do with Barbie not being here. Damien sent a look to Bonnie and the two seemed to understand each other perfectly. It didn't go unnoticed; Stefan and Elena had long caught on to the change in their relationship.
Bonnie messaged Caroline at Damien's behest. She hadn't answered before, and it wasn't like her not to be up right now. "What's going on?" Elena asked irritated. It wasn't that she didn't trust her friend or that she doubted Damien's eyes were only for her, but she was getting tired of their secret looks and whispers. Since they came back from the other side it felt like the two had formed a club no one else was allowed to join.
Of course, she was happy her boyfriend and best friend were finally getting along but they were getting on without her. That bothered her. Plus Damien seemed to be short with her these days and she couldn't figure out why.
"Just messaging Caroline, she's usually here by now," Bonnie answered, looking at Damien with a frown. She hadn't wanted to announce it or draw the wrong kind of attention, specifically, from Klaus. He had the tendency to accuse quickly. "Perfect Caroline is playing hooky?" Rebekah amused, Klaus looked at her but she remained unphased at his glare.
"Perfect Caroline does not play hooky, she's here and she brings good coffee," Caroline answered rushing in and setting the coffee in on the coffee table. "Busy morning, I had to wait for the rental shop to open to get a new car." She explained, sitting her stuff down.
"Is something wrong with your car? I can look at it for you?" Stefan offered grabbing a cup from the table. Caroline shook her head. "It's dead, RIP, time to get a new car. I'm just testing out a few through the rental place no biggie." She said quickly. "Your car is not that old, what happened to it?" Bonnie asked taking her coffee cup and smiling to herself. There was nothing better than a proper cup of coffee.
"It was old enough to die, anyways what did I miss? Did you guys find anything?" Caroline looked around to many headshakes.
"This coffee is very well made I don't think I've had this place before I would love to know where it's from." The eldest Mikaelson asked. There was something that gratified her about Elijah approving of her coffee choices. Felt like acceptance a little bit. She gave Klaus a smug look, feeling quite proud of herself. Sure, his face was grumpy but it lightened up to see her happy.
"Isn't it great? They're a new place that opened not too long ago. It's called Petal & Pour. They have really nice Tea's too. I'm addicted to this place." She answered warmly, winning her what the heck looks from Matt and Elena.
"Mmm, I've heard of this place. There is a barista there that's very attracted to me. Raven's her name,I think, she's always asking about me, how I'm doing. Not like you lot." Kol said causally.
At the same time, Rebekah and Klaus answered him "She's probably trying to trick you."
"I don't think I've met her; my Barista is usually Jenny or Lisa," Caroline responded opening a random book. Since she had no interest in cures, Klaus related or not, she would be glued to this one book for the foreseeable future.
"Ah, see that clears everything up Kol, the girl doesn't even exist." Klaus teases, a book flies towards him but he catches it with ease.
Caroline gets a message from Bonnie,
BonBon: [What is even happening?]
Care Bear: [This is how they are, what do you mean?]
BonBon: [Uh, since when are you this chatty with them?]
Care Bear: [Am I being chatty? More or less chatty than you are with Damien these days?]
BonBon: […]
BonBon: [Tyler left early, he met someone. A girl he says, an ordinary girl.]
Care Bear: [Sure he did. Whatever! I'm glad he's not here to give me the ick.]
BonBon: [Honeslty, he's always been the ick. Stefan warned him already he needs to leave you alone.]
Care Bear: [Like he listens! This mystery girl should help. He won't come around if he has someone.]
BonBom: [Alert! Klaus is staring at us Care, he's staring.]
Care Bear: [He does that, he's fine. Elena though, she wants to kill us. She wants her precious cure!]
BonBon: [*side eye*]
BonBon: [It can't be done! Why can't Klaus and Elena get that? It goes against the laws of nature.]
Care Bear: [I sit here also going against nature. Where is the line? People might think witches cross that line too]
BonBon: [Shut up! There are limits.]
Care Bear: [They just want an uno reverse card. XP]
BonBon: [Good luck to them! I don't want any part of it.]
Care Bear: [If Elena gets the cure, she's out of here. Gone with the wind.]
BonBon: [Damien said the same thing]
Care Bear; [Knowing she'll leave he wants to find her the cure…suspicious]
BonBon: [What happened with your car?]
Care Bear: [Bonnie! Why did you change the subject again? Fishy!]
BonBon: [Battery's dying, gotta go!]
Bonnie put her phone down, leaving Caroline with a puzzled look. A new message came in.
Rebekah: [You're going to trigger an aneurysm in my brother with your secret texting. Fair warning.]
Caroline read the text and screenshotted the part of her messages with Bonnie that talked about Elena and Damien, trying not to attract too much attention.
Caroline: [*Sends Screenshot. Nothing shady, just trying to figure out what this is about. You're a neutral third party. I'm not crazy right?]
Rebekah checked her phone, surprised at what she was seeing. She made eye contact with Caroline who shrugged. It was quick and unnoticed, by everyone but Klaus whose eyes always stay on Caroline.
Rebekah: [Well, this changes the context of things. They've been friendly, Elena clearly doesn't like it but they kind of ignore her. I wouldn't think he'd want to get rid of her though]
Caroline: [Damien and Bonnie have been different and if I didn't know them, I would think they had a thing but, Bonnie's not like that. Damien is but Bonnie no way!]
Rebekah: [People change.]
Caroline was about to text back but when she looked up, she could see Kol reading Rebekah's phone. She cleared her throat loudly causing Rebekah to look up and shut off her screen. It was Kol's turn to get hit but this time it landed.
"If everyone can get off their phones and focus." Elena snapped, annoyed. Another message came into Caroline's phone from Katherine.
Katherine Fierce: [Hey, I've been reaching out to my sources, and they put me in contact with someone that's sure who you're dealing with is a group out of New Orleans. They have five higher level groups out there. It has to be one of them.]
Mrs. Mikaelson: [Who are they, how do they know?]
"Are you seriously still on your phone?" Elena interrupted; she was at her limit. "Do you not get how important this is to me! Or do you not care?" she snapped, her voice rising. Klaus was ready to put Elena in her place as he didn't appreciate how Caroline was being talked to, but chaos struck.
The lights flickered and a strong wind passed through the room. The book Elena had been studying flew out of her hands and slammed on the table. Words in red appeared on the pages.
ELENA WANTS THE CURE.
BUT HER ONLY CURE IS DEATH
Everyone had moved around; Klaus had found his way to Caroline. Damien protected Bonnie, Elijah pulled his sister away and she grabbed Kol. Stefan stepped back. Matt shielded Elena.
"What is this?" Stefan asked.
"I don't know but I'm out of here. Nope!" Caroline said grabbing her bag. Bonnie nodded, two steps ahead of her.
"No! Guys we have to figure this out maybe we're close to something and someone is jealous or something!" Elena said frantically. "The universe has spoken, Elena! It said no! Goodbye!" Caroline snapped back.
Another wind pushed through the room, the windows rattled, and the light swung about. The book Caroline had been pretending to read floated to the table with no violence.
CAROLINE DID YOU READ MY LETTER?
Caroline's chest ached,
"Mom?"
