Chapter six: Nothing is sweeter than Enchanted Honey

After camping out for the night in Eterna Forest, Dawn and Kenny went with Ash, Brock, Cheryl, and Gardenia to look around for a supposed Combee wall, which Gardenia says can be a clue to help lead them to the Amber Castle where Cheryl can get some Enchanted Honey. To help with the search, Dawn had her Mothim Coupins out. As they walked, however, they heard a commotion and turned to see what it was. As such, they spotted James of Team Rocket. His slip prompted Jessie and Meowth to come out as well.

"It's those guys who tried to kidnap Cell!" Kenny exclaimed as he called out his Turtwig Roshi, "Okay Roshi, let's give them the good ol'-"

"Ah, it's your adorable Turtwig again!" Gardenia exclaimed, cutting Kenny off as she rushed in to pick Roshi up and hug him against her chest. Kenny exclaimed at Gardenia in annoyance over how she had cut him off from dealing with Team Rocket like that, although Roshi didn't seem to mind how he was being held by Gardenia like that.

Team Rocket was about to recite their motto, but stopped short because Kenny had interrupted them, and now they looked on in confusion as Gardenia was cuddling Kenny's named Turtwig. Team Rocket was getting annoyed at this point, so James sent out his Carnivine, which proceeded to chew on James's head affectionately. Seeing Carnivine made Gardenia freak out with elated excitement as she rushed over to hug James's Carnivine.

"...What in blazes is wrong with her?" Kenny whispered to Dawn while pointing to Gardenia.

Over where Gardenia was at, she said to James after prying his Carnivine off of him, "Hey, would you be interested in me trading for your Carnivine here?"

"No way!" James declared while snatching his Carnivine back, "I am not trading Carnivine!"

Rolling her eyes, Dawn pointed at Team Rocket and said, "Coupins, hit them with Bug Buzz."

"Roshi, use Razor Leaf!" Kenny ordered.

"Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!" Ash called out. The three Pokémon all fired their attacks right at Team Rocket, sending them blasting off again and giving the heroes some relief from them.

Turning to the others, Gardenia said, "Aww, why did you send them off like that? I could have gotten that Carnivine."

"Those were members of a villainous criminal organization," Brock pointed out, "As a matter of fact, they had grab and tried to make off with Cheryl's trio of Wormadam before we ran into you."

Dawn nodded in confirmation. "They had also tried grabbing my Mothim and Kenny's Scyther at the same time, but they got out of the way before Team Rocket could grab them."

As Gardenia relented, a Nuzleaf showed up with a message it gave to Gardenia. "...I need to bail," Gardenia said to the rest of the group after taking the message from Nuzleaf and reading it, "Sorry, but duty in Eterna City calls."

"Okay, take care," Ash said as he and the rest of the group waived goodbye to Gardenia who left with the Nuzleaf. Shortly after Gardenia and the Nuzleaf were out of sight, Coupins sniffed about the air and made some excited noises before urging the others to follow him. "He must have picked up a scent," Ash said, "It could lead to the Amber Castle!" With Coupins leading the way, the heroes all ran in the right direction, hoping it would lead to a breakthrough in their hunt for the Amber Castle.

A short while later, Coupins had led the group to a field of Pomeg flowers. While they were looking around, it was Kenny who spotted a Combee. "There's one!" Kenny declared, "Let's follow it!"

"It's good that we were led here," Cheryl said, "The Pomeg flowers means we're close." As the heroes looked around, Coupins spotted something that caught his attention, only to reel back when a wall of Combee came flying out of some bushes. They followed that wall of Combee, and eventually it led them to a waterfall where a lot of Combee were flying around at. The group decided to head on over to investigate, with Coupins flying back to Dawn, grabbing her by her right arm, and trying to pull her to follow him while making noises showing he wants her to follow him.

Dawn smiled softly at that. "Okay, okay, lead us to the honey." With Coupins leading the way, the heroes got closer to the waterfall, behind which they noticed the entrance to a cave. "Thank Odin that I was isekai'd into Pokémon and not Skyrim," Dawn thought as she and the others got closer to the waterfall, eventually reaching the waterfall and going around it to reach the cave. "...Coupins seems very intent on leading us into this cave," Dawn remarked.

"The Amber Castle must be inside!" Cheryl said as she ran on ahead into the cave excitedly, prompting the others to go in after her.

...

The heroes followed after Coupins, and Ash's Pikachu to an extent, as they picked up the scent of honey. Getting an idea, Kenny called out Cell, who sparkled upon coming out of his pokéball. "Okay, Cell," Kenny said, "Think you can help Pikachu and Coupins find where the scent of honey is coming from?" Cell gave his trainer a salute as he proceeded to sniff about the air along with Pikachu and Coupins. To the other humans, Kenny said, "Heh. Cell has a thing for honey, it would seem."

"The more noses helping to sniff the honey out, the better," Cheryl remarked, "I just-" Cheryl was cut off when the Pokémon all went in one direction of the cave, prompting the humans to give chase. They got lost a few times, but the Pokémon went back for them, with Coupins in particular seeming worried about getting lost from Dawn. Eventually, the group came upon some angry Combee who were surrounding Team Rocket who had dug some holes.

"Team Rocket followed us into the cave!" Ash exclaimed, prepared to send them packing.

"Like we'll go down without a fight, twerp!" Jessie exclaimed, "Go Seviper!"

"Go Cacnea!" James said as he sent out his Cacnea.

"Pikachu, use Thunderbolt on Seviper!" Ash ordered.

"Coupins, use Psychic on Seviper!" Dawn called out.

"Cell, use Fury Cutter on Cacnea!" Kenny declared.

The heroes' Pokémon went on the attack, not giving Team Rocket's Pokémon a chance to fight back. Pikachu and Coupins blasted Seviper, and Cell swiped his right blade arm at Cacnea. The two Pokémon of Team Rocket were thrown back, and a hissing in the distance prompted the Combees to chase Team Rocket away. After the villains had been chased off, the Combees flew around a bit before going off in one odd direction into the cave.

Cheryl seemed suspicious of the way they were heading. "Let's follow that swarm of Combee into the deeper parts of the cave." The others all nodded in agreement, and proceeded to head right into the deepest reaches of the cave.

A short while later while following the swarm of Combee, Coupins got excited, which prompted the group to keep going. It was Ash who bumped into a wall that felt like it was moving. Looking at the wall, Kenny said, "It's the Combees!"

Looking up, the group saw that it was indeed a large Combee wall. Some of the Combees swarmed over to attack, but Coupins threw out Air Slash attacks, sending those Combee scrambling. The wall of Combee soons broke away, and to the wonder of the group, they at last found the Amber Castle. With a determined Cheryl leading the way, the group went right into the Amber Castle, with Kenny first recalling Cell in case he tried anything.

...

Going deeper into the castle, the group saw honey flowing everywhere. "Yeah, you calling Cell back to his pokéball was a smart move, Kenny," Dawn said, "He'd of gone crazy here."

"Indeed," Cheryl remarked, "We cannot afford any messing around here, especially since my goal is within re-" Cheryl was cut off when the same hissing noise from before got the group's attention. Looking up, the group saw a Vespiquen fly on over. "...You must be the queen of the hive," Cheryl said to the Vespiquen, "There's something that I must ask of you, if you're willing to listen." Taking a jar out of her bag, Cheryl explained, "You see, I was hoping to get some Enchanted Honey from-"

Cheryl was cut off when Team Rocket came crashing through the roof of the Amber Castle, catching the attention of the group. Remembering from her previous life how, in the anime, Team Rocket showing up here soon leads to damage to the Amber Castle, Dawn had Coupins keep them frozen in place with Psychic. "Boys, can you go properly subdue Team Rocket while they're pinned?" Dawn asked, "I'm not sure how long Coupins can hold them, and I'd really rather not push him."

Ash, Brock, and Kenny all nodded in agreement as they went over to Team Rocket, tying their hands behind their backs with rope while they were helpless. "Hey, you can't do this to us!" Jessie snapped, "You're supposed to let us take all of the Enchanted Honey that we want!"

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure a line of folks wanting to deal with you will form over how you tried to make off with the Enchanted Honey," Kenny said dryly, "And you can probably expect Cell to either be first in line or close to the front."

With Team Rocket subdued, the group looked up to the hole in the ceiling. "...That hole can cause further problems if left alone for too long," Dawn said in a worried tone, "We ought to fix-" Dawn was cut off when she and the others saw some Combee fly up to the hole in the ceiling and began fixing it up, using honey to help stick material.

Brock smiled in an amused manner as he and the others saw this. "It looks like the Combee are taking care of it themselves. They're surprisingly self-sufficient."

As the group celebrated in their victory of saving the Amber Castle and subduing Team Rocket, the Vespiquen got Cheryl's attention. After taking the jar from Cheryl, Vespiquen went over to a pool of Enchanted Honey, filled the jar from it, then brought the jar back over to Cheryl. Cheryl, surprised that the Vespiquen fulfilled her request, smiled warmly. "...Thank you, Vespiquen," Cheryl said, happy that her quest for the Enchanted Honey had been fulfilled.

"My guess is that she's grateful to us for how we stopped Team Rocket and prevented further damage to the Amber Castle," Ash said, surprisingly drawing a nod of confirmation from Vespiquen. Cheryl then offered to let everyone try some of the Enchanted Honey; aside from Brock's Croagunk who didn't seem interested in sweet stuff like the Enchanted Honey, everyone else liked it, especially Coupins and even more especially Cell.

With their business done, the group left the Amber Castle, with the boys escorting out Team Rocket who were all tied up with rope to prevent the use of their arms.

Outside of the Amber Castle, Brock began trying to flirt with Cheryl. However, before Croagunk could jab Brock to make him stop, Cheryl spotted a Beedrill. "I remember stories from my childhood that the sight of a Beedrill is an indication that I ought to travel alone," Cheryl explained, "So this is where we must part ways."

"Yeah, I sorta wanna head right for Eterna City so I can give the Eterna City gym the business," Kenny admitted, "And by that I mean beat the gym leader and earn my second badge."

Dawn nodded in agreement. "I'm itching to go after badge number two myself." Turning to face Ash and Brock, Dawn asked, "Can you guys keep track of Team Rocket until the law can take them off of your hands for you?"

"I actually already called the police over in Eterna City," Brock explained, "They'll be waiting for us at the entrance to Eterna Forest that's located closest to Eterna City." Dawn had to have faith in Ash and Brock's ability to keep Team Rocket from getting away; with a nod of acknowledgement, Dawn wished Ash and Brock luck before she turned and left in the same direction that Kenny took off running in; it would seem to Dawn that this is the point where she travels alone again.

That's fine. She has a feeling that she'll run into Kenny again.

After some traveling through the rest of Eterna Forest and parts of Route 205, Dawn arrived in Eterna City. Dawn wanted to challenge the Gym, but given the time of day where she arrived, she figured that at best, she'd only have time to check her Pokémon in at the Center and check out a few things before having to turn in for the night. However, she heard some people talking in the Center right as she got back her party.

"What do you mean the construction over on Route 211 has been abandoned earlier today?" asked one girl to a boy.

"Apparently some crazy strong wild Pokémon was causing a ruckus," the boy explained, "Making the workers flee."

Dawn looked worried about that, and figured that she had at least some time to check it out. At that point, she was feeding her on-hand team of Pokémon. Dawn's party currently consisted of Chi-Chi, Cyrus, and Coupins who are the three she plans to use against Gardenia, as well as her three new catches from Eterna Forest; a male Buneary she named Dio, a male Murkrow she named Boss, and a female Misdreavus she named Lucy.

Curious about their natures as she was going to be working with them, Dawn took time to check their info; Dio had a rash nature, Boss had a naive nature, and Lucy had a bold nature. Dawn realized that she hadn't checked Lynn's info yet, and when she did she saw that Lynn had a hasty nature. "Huh, I guess not every Pokémon I catch will be like ones I raised in the video games in my previous life," Dawn thought, "But it'd of been foolish to think things would work so well ALL the time."

Dawn was not going to argue with natures that wouldn't of been her first picks for those specific Pokémon, as Pokémon were no longer collections of pixels and numbers; they were real beings now and deserved to be treated as such. Putting those thoughts to the side for the time being because she had rumors to investigate, Dawn looked to her on hand party of Pokémon. "...Let's go investigate those rumors of a strong Pokémon on Route 211," Dawn said as she recalled all of her Pokémon before leaving the Pokémon Center for a bit.

...

Over on Route 211, Dawn saw signs of construction that she wasn't familiar with. "Must be another change that comes with isekai," Dawn thought as she looked around. Dawn's attention was then drawn over to some shouting that she heard.

"Come on, Zarbon! That Teddiursa need a long and hard pounding!"

"MAAAAAACHHHHOOOOOOOP!" came the aroused, sensual pleasured cry of a Machop in the distance behind some construction machinery.

"...This soon, huh?" Dawn muttered to herself as she ran around some of the construction machines to see what was going on. After walking around a steamroller, Dawn spotted Kenny commanding his Machop Zarbon in battle against a wild Teddiursa. "Hey Kenny!" Dawn called out, "What are you doing here?"

Without turning to face Dawn, Kenny pointed at the wild Teddiursa. "This here is the wild Pokémon that I heard rumors about causing some trouble here on Route 211. Apparently it's put a lot of the construction here on hold."

Dawn nodded in understanding, although Kenny didn't see it as he was focused on the battle. "I've heard those rumors as well. So the wild Pokémon in question is a Teddiursa of all things?"

"Yeah!" Kenny called back as Zarbon pushed the Teddiursa back with a Karate Chop, "I caught it eating from an abandoned pizza box when I first found it, so it's probably just foraging around for food. It must have forced the workers to flee over that." The wild Teddiursa then pushed a smaller steamroller towards Zarbon using Strength, causing Kenny and Zarbon to have to get out of the way to avoid getting hit.

Dawn was at a safe enough distance to avoid the mess altogether. "...I can see how those rumors call the Teddiursa a 'crazy strong Pokémon'," Dawn remarked dryly. Kenny then recalled Zarbon and sent Roshi out.

"Use Razor Leaf, Roshi!" Kenny ordered. The named Turtwig then cast a bunch of sharp leaves to fly right at the Teddiursa, striking it and pushing it back into the side of a digging machine. After it fell down, Teddiursa went to one knee as it panted in exhaustion. Seeing his cue, Kenny took out an empty pokéball and threw it at the Teddiursa as he called out, "Go pokéball!" The pokéball took the Teddiursa inside, fell to the ground, then shook for a bit. After that it made a ping sound, showing that Kenny had caught the Teddiursa.

Smirking in self-amusement, Kenny went over to collect his new Teddiursa. Scanning the ball with his pokédex, Kenny saw that the Teddiursa is male. "...Given how he was eating from an abandoned pizza box when I came across him," Kenny said, "Along with how he was pushing that steamroller around with Strength, not only will he fit in quite well with the rest of my cringe posse, but I also have the perfect name in mind for him."

Clearing his throat, Kenny was about to loudly declare what he was going to name his new Teddiursa, but he got cut off when two construction workers and Gardenia came over, clearly there to investigate what was going on. "Hey kids," Gardenia said upon spotting Dawn and Kenny, "Aren't you two from the group who was traveling through Eterna Forest?"

Nodding in the affirmative, Dawn replied, "Yes. I just got to Eterna City and was about to rest for the night, but I heard rumors of a strong Pokémon causing trouble at a construction sight on Route 211, so I decided to come out to investigate. That's when I came across Kenny battling a wild Teddiursa which he caught not five seconds before you and the workers showed up here just now."

The first worker looked surprised. "You actually caught that Pokémon, young man?" the first worker said upon turning to face Kenny.

Nodding in confirmation, Kenny called out his new Teddiursa. "Oh yeah, this little guy will fit right at home in my posse."

"Turtwig twig!" Roshi called out in agreement, right before he began glowing brightly to the shock of all who were present. Roshi changed size and shape as he glowed, and after the glowing and changing of shape was all done, Roshi had evolved into a Grotle.

"Sweetness! Roshi evolved into Grotle!" Kenny cheered, "Now he's-"

"EEEEEEE! It's a Grotle!" Gardenia cheered excitedly as she ran up to Roshi and threw her arms around his neck to hug him. Roshi, whose face was up against Gardenia's chest while she hugged him like that, was not about to complain.

The two reborn trainers rolled their eyes before Dawn said, "Oh Kenny, you looked like you were going to say something about naming your newly caught Teddiursa?"

Kenny, with an amused smirk on his face, nodded in the affirmative. "Indeed I did," Kenny said, "And given what he did here before I caught him, there's only one name that fits him." Clearing his throat mostly for dramatic effect, Kenny said, "Moista Fista!"

Gardenia, who was still cuddling up against Roshi, perked up at the name that Kenny gave to the Teddiursa he had just caught. "Ooh, that sounds like a cool name. Maybe the Eterna City gym leader will get to see that Pokémon when you battle her, hmm?"

"Hmm, perhaps," Kenny replied, then turned to face Dawn and asked, "Yo, wanna head back to the Pokémon Center for the night?"

"Before you go, let me properly thank you for saving the construction sight from that troublesome Teddiursa, young man," the worker said, "Hmm..." After thinking for a bit, the worker said, "Aha, I got it! What sort of Pokémon do you own?"

Shrugging, Kenny said, "Well aside from the Teddiursa I just caught and my Grotle, I got a Machop, a Poliwag, a Munchlax, and a Scyther that's shiny."

"Hmm, I see now how I can properly thank you for helping to save the construction sight," the worker said, "I can, if you'd like, give you a Metal Coat which you can use to evolve your Scyther, and a Water Stone for when your Poliwag evolves into Poliwhirl, so you can evolve it into Poliwrath."

Giving the worker a confused look, Kenny said, "I... don't mean to sound ungrateful for the offer, but I was planning to evolve Kermit into a Politoed when he gets to the Poliwhirl stage."

Chuckling a bit, the worker said, "That's understandable, no need to worry. I'll just replace the Water Stone with a King's Rock. Will that be sufficient?"

"Oh totally!" Kenny declared, excited that he was being given the requirements to evolve two of the core members of his party. The humans decided to settle the business in town, where after Kenny got the gifts he and Dawn relaxed at the Pokémon Center for the rest of the night.

The next morning, after she had some breakfast, Dawn took off to Route 211 to do some training, mainly to get Dio, Boss, and Lucy caught up to the rest of her rotation. While she was training there, Dawn heard Kenny call out to her. "Yo Dawn, quick question about me finding Moista Fista here on Route 211 late yesterday evening."

"In the original Diamond and Pearl games," Dawn began to explain, "Teddiursa could be found on Route 211 if using the dual slot method with a copy of Emerald."

Kenny nodded in understanding. "Good to know." Kenny took off to a different part of Route 211 so he could train his Pokémon, saying something about how he wanted to get cracking on work on Moista Fista. While Kenny was off doing that, Dawn looked to her own Pokémon, wanting to get a good picture of how to use them.

...

Dawn, and to a lesser extent Kenny, spent the next few days training on their own. After they felt they were both ready, they went to Eterna City, bumping into one another by chance on the way. "So I was thinking of leading off with Cell," Kenny said as he and Dawn walk through Eterna City, "Use him to gain an early lead. I figure that the early lead will lead me to victory if I hold onto it."

"What about your other two Pokémon for the battle?" Dawn asked, arching a wry eyebrow.

Shrugging, Kenny said, "Well maybe Roshi can tank grass attacks with his resistance as he uses non-grass attacks. Also I'm really feeling that Moista Fista can make his gym debut here at-" Kenny was cut off when he and Dawn heard some alarms go off. Looking over, they saw the local museum in Eterna City. "Alright, a museum heist!" Kenny declared as he ran off, "Time to stop some crooks and become a hero!"

"Kenny, get back here!" Dawn yelled as she ran to keep up. She had a sinking suspicion that something was up, so she decided to run right on in after her friend.

Inside of the museum, Dawn and Kenny ran towards the scene of the crime, with Ash, Brock, and an Officer Jenny joining them on the way. "Glad you're here to help, you guys," Jenny said as she ran with the heroes, "We need to stop those thieves from stealing whatever it is they're trying to steal!"

Getting an idea, Dawn called Coupins out, with Kenny calling out Moista Fista as well. "Good idea," Ash said, "Our Pokémon can help out!"

Eventually, the group reached the scene of the crime, and up on a walkway they see Team Rocket in disguises, with Jessie holding what Dawn recognized as the Adamant Orb. "They're stealing the Adamant Orb!" Jenny exclaimed, "We have to stop them!"

"Hey, you're Team Rocket in terrible disguises!" Kenny said as he pointed up at the criminals, "How did you guys escape after Ash and Brock handed you clowns off to the police?"

"The party who hired us for this job busted us out," Jessie said, then added while lifing up the Adamant Orb, "And now with this, our job is-"

"Coupins, use Psychic to grab that orb and pull it to me!" Dawn ordered, cutting Jessie off. Acting as Dawn told him, the named Mothim's eyes began glowing with psychic power, with that same power surrounding the Adamant Orb and pulling it out of Jessie's hand she was lifting it with. The treasure flew to Dawn, who caught it and held it close to her.

Giving Dawn a thumbs up, Jenny said, "Good job! You saved the Adamant Orb!"

Growing in frustration, Jessie called out her Seviper. "Seviper, use Haze! We need to make a clean getaway so we can try again!" Seviper let out a huge volume of sight-obscuring smoke, letting Team Rocket get away from capture. Upon the smoke coming out, Dawn went down on her knees and hunched over, her head touching the floor and her arms still firmly holding onto the Adamant Orb so as to keep Team Rocket from trying to steal it.

...

A short while later, police had the museum surrounded, with the officers inside talking to everyone to try to get a clue as to the thieves who tried to steal the Adamant Orb. "Yeah, it was Team Rocket in crummy disguises," Kenny said, "They literally dressed their Meowth up as a Sunflora. Heck, I was even able to record a clip on my phone of them looking totally shocked when Dawn had her Mothim snatch the Adamant Orb away from them! You can clearly see the quote unquote 'Sunflora' go wide eyed with shock! Sunflora ain't supposed to be able to open their eyes like that!"

"Kenny's right," the familiar voice of Gardenia called out, making everyone turn to see her come over. Brock began trying to flirt with her, but Croagunk jabbed him then dragged him away. "Anyway, I came by to see if I could help," Gardenia said, "After all, I'm the gym leader here in Eterna City. I've got to do my part to protect my city, you know."

Ash and Brock looked surprised. "You're the gym leader here, Gardenia?!" Ash exclaimed.

Dawn and Kenny likewise acted surprised, because although they knew ahead of time, no one knew that they knew. "Oh, I've been meaning to find the gym leader here so I could challenge them," Kenny said, "But given what's going on right now..."

"Hey, I want to battle her first!" Ash declared.

Chuckling, Gardenia said while pointing to Dawn, "Actually, I was planning on taking her challenge first, partly because she's a girl and girls go first, and partly out of gratitude for how she saved the Adamant Orb a short while ago."

Dawn looked a bit surprised, but she relaxed from that an offered a warm smile. "...That's actually very considerate, but with all due respect Kenny got first dibs just now, and Ash was the second to speak up about challenging you. I'll be fine waiting until the boys have had their turn."

Gardenia smiled in understanding. "Fair enough. Anyway, we still need to-"

"Found the thief!" an Officer Jenny spoke up, making everyone turn to see her walk over with a captured suspect in tow. When the others saw who it was, Dawn and Kenny knew full well that there was no way that the suspect could be involved.

END, CHAPTER SIX

Author's notes;

This chapter finishes up the Enchanted Honey arc, sees Dawn and Kenny get cracking on some training with Kenny catching his sixth Pokémon, and everyone head on over to the museum where Team Rocket tried to steal the Adamant Orb but failed and had to run and hide to regroup, unlike in the original anime where they at first successfully get away with the Adamant Orb. There will be a twist in the rest of how this story adapts things there, so keep your eyes peeled.

Also, I had meant to do this starting last chapter but I forgot to add it in, but now I'll be listing what Pokémon Dawn and Kenny have, also adding nicknames so that they can be identified. However, I'll only list Pokémon that physically appear and or are mentioned, as well as list their latest evolution. I'm also going to list Ash's currently known Pokémon he's got since arriving in Sinnoh, as he'll be seeing some changes that he doesn't normally have;

Dawn's Pokémon: (on hand) Chi-Chi (female Monferno), Cyrus (male Staravia), Coupins (male Mothim), Boss (male Murkrow), Dio (male Buneary), Lucy (female Misdreavus) (mentioned) Lynn (female Buizel)

Kenny's Pokémon: Roshi (male Grotle), Kermit (male Poliwag), Zarbon (male Machop), Slick (male Munchlax), Cell (male Scyther; shiny), Moista Fista (male Teddiursa)

Ash's Pokémon: Pikachu (male), Turtwig (male), Chimchar (male), Staravia (male), Aipom (female), Buneary (female)
