Pokémon: Sinnoh no Isekai

Chapter thirty-three: Camping and beach time on the road to Sunyshore City

It had been a week since the incident at the Spear Pillar where Team Galactic had been stopped and Sinnoh had been saved. Even so, Dawn and Kenny, the reborn trainers, felt that everyone who was involved in stopping Team Galactic was still feeling as mildly wired as the two of them were. After all, Team Galactic would have caused catastrophic, irreversible damage to not just Sinnoh but all of the world had their plan come to fruition.

One cannot walk away from experiencing stopping something like that and not feel as if nothing big had just gone down.

Dawn and Kenny, traveling separately from Ash and Brock on the way to Sunyshore City, were taking care of some training at the camp sight they had set up in the forested grassy area along Route 222. As Kenny was getting the cookout curry late breakfast ready for everyone, Dawn was standing near a large lake in the forested grassy area. She was scanning the Master Ball she was given a while ago back in Celestic Town, as a gift for letting a high ranking Silph Co. employee take pictures of her bug Pokémon.

Of course, there was a reason why Dawn was scanning the Master Ball, given that she had recently used it at the events at Spear Pillar to capture Palkia. "Tsukune is genderless," Dawn muttered quietly to herself as she looked at the info on her legendary Pokémon, "But then again most legendary Pokémon in the video games from me and Kenny's previous life were genderless, so that's no surprise there. ...Ah, Tsukune has a timid nature, and the Pressure ability."

Dawn then tossed up the Master Ball to call Tsukune out. "Alright, Tsukune," Dawn said as she looked up at her Pokémon, "We're going to do some exercises to see how the moves I had you learn are looking." Palkia nodded along in understanding, ready for its trainer's cue to proceed. Pointing at the surface of the lake, Dawn said, "Use Flamethrower on the lake's surface. We want to try to contain the fire so we don't accidentally set the surrounding area ablaze."

Understanding the order, Tsukune opened its mouth and belched a powerful, forceful blast of flames from its mouth onto the lake's surface. Dawn nodded a few times in respect. "Looks good," Dawn said as she called off her Pokémon's attack, "Now let's see how your Surf is looking."

Palkia conjured up a large and powerful forceful wave of water that it sent rushing out in front of it, flooding the area beyond the lake a bit until the attack ended and the water subsided. "Now use Power Gem on that tree over there," Dawn said as she pointed out the tree she wanted her Palkia to hit with its next attack.

Tsukune took aim with its right hand as the large pearl like thing embedded into its right shoulder pad glowed brightly, right before a quick stream of small lights flew out of Tsukune's aimed hand like machine gun fire. The targeted tree was slammed by the force of that Power Gem attack. "That looks solid as well," Dawn replied, "Okay, let's take a breather." Tsukune relaxed and went to hang with Dawn's other Pokémon as Dawn went over to the folding table that had been set up.

Sitting down at the table, Dawn took a small leather bound journal out from her bag before she flipped it open and began writing in it. Kenny came over with two plates of curry as he saw Dawn was writing in the journal. "You're putting a lot of focus on training Palkia," Kenny noted as he sat down and placed the plates of curry on the table.

"Well I was asked to carefully monitor Tsukune's training as part of the effort to study the mythology of Sinnoh," Dawn said, "I have to take note of everything. The fact Tsukune eats much the same as my other Pokémon, how I'm doing training it as well as what attacks I'm having it learn, the fact that Tsukune answers to the name I gave it much like how my other Pokémon respond to what names I give them. Anything and everything has to be written down."

Kenny arched a wry eyebrow in surprise. "...The professor dudes at the Historical Research Center over in Celestic Town must really want every last detail."

"Well most of the info that researchers in the field of Sinnoh mythology have on the legendary Pokémon of Sinnoh is composed of theories and hearsay," Dawn replied, "Having one of the actual legendary Pokémon mentioned in Sinnoh myth here for real to study is an opportunity that the professor big wigs don't wanna pass up."

Nodding in agreement, Kenny said, "Yeah, I'm also surprised that one plate of curry per meal is enough to satisfy a Pokémon as large as Palkia, even though it eats everything on said plate in one bite by just opening its mouth and letting the curry slide off the plate and into its mouth." Looking curious, Kenny said, "Hey, I only heard you had Palkia learn three new attacks."

"Tsukune is keeping Spacial Rend," Dawn explained, "And it's already got a firm hold over that, so I focused on the other three attacks I had it learn." As she looked back down into the journal she was writing in, Dawn went on, "I even had to take note of the fact that Tsukune forgot how to use some of the attacks it came knowing in order to learn the attacks I had it learn, much like how run of the mill Pokémon sometimes have to forget attacks when learning new ones."

"...You're raising Palkia as if it's simply just another one of your Pokémon," Kenny said, "And yet due to how it's a legendary, the researchers are treating every single last detail as a big deal."

"Exactly," Dawn replied as she finished writing in the journal. Sighing as she sat straight, Dawn stretched a bit. "...I think our Pokémon are due for some relaxation time."

Jerking a thumb in the direction behind him, Kenny remarked, "We can head down to the beach. I got a feeling that my Pokémon at least would like to have their own beach episode."

Dawn gave Kenny a dry look. "...Of course they would."

Despite the cliché way that Kenny had put it, Dawn actually was on board with the idea of her and Kenny hitting the beach area along Route 222 so that their Pokémon could have some fun in the sun. For obvious reasons, Dawn couldn't have Tsukune out, so she had to make due with letting her other five on hand Pokémon getting to have fun.

Dawn, with Chi-Chi following her, went to one of the locker rooms located on the beach to change into a swimsuit. As Dawn and her named Infernape approached the girls' locker room, they heard a girl cry out in a tone of complaint, "Why can't my Vulpix follow me into the locker room?"

Curious, Dawn with Chi-Chi following along, moved on ahead and saw a girl with sandy blonde hair arguing with one girl with reddish orange hair who was standing guard at the entrance to the girls' locker room with a Chansey. The redhead girl pointed at the blonde girl's Vulpix, who was looking at Chansey with pink hearts for eyes.

"Because Chansey's Attract worked on Vulpix," the redhead girl said, "Confirming that Vulpix is a boy, and boys aren't allowed in the girls' locker room!"

"Yeah, but he's a Vulpix," Dawn spoke up, making both girls turn to face her. Giving the redhead girl a confused, wry look, Dawn said, "How would the blonde girl's Vulpix cause any harm in the girls' locker room, solely due to how he just so happens to be male?"

Nodding in agreement with Dawn, the blonde girl said, "Thank you! Someone agrees with me!"

Scoffing in annoyance, the redhead girl said, "We all know how boys think. They'll stare at us girls while we're changing, creeping on us in the process."

"Human boys, maybe," Dawn argued, "But boys who are Pokémon like Vulpix? Yeah, I highly doubt that Vulpix will be staring with creeping eyes at us girls while we're all changing into and out of our swim suits." Dawn at that moment was glad that Kenny went to the boys' locker room to change, and that he took Roshi with him.

Nodding in agreement, the blonde girl said, "Exactly! Why, there's been times at home when I was changing my clothes and Vulpix was right there. He made no reactions whatsoever on any of those occasions when he saw me change what I was wearing."

"You let your Vulpix watch you change clothes even though he's a boy?!" the redhead girl nearly exclaimed incredulously.

Shrugging, Dawn said, "Yes, her Vulpix is a boy. He's also a Pokémon and therefore not a human boy. He won't get anything from seeing us girls change what we're wearing." Again, Dawn was very glad that Kenny took Roshi with him.

"I don't care, the no boys rule applies to all boys," the redhead girl said firmly. Giving Chi-Chi a wry look, the redhead girl then said to Dawn, "I'm going to have to have Chansey check your Infernape if you want to have it in the locker room with you."

"Go ahead," Dawn replied dryly, "You'll only be wasting time as Chi-Chi is a female Infernape." Not caring, the redhead girl had Chansey use Attract on Chi-Chi. Predictably, Chi-Chi was completely unaffected by Chansey's Attract. Seeing that Chi-Chi passed inspection, the redhead girl permitted Dawn to bring Chi-Chi into the locker room with her, but still forced the blonde girl to recall her Vulpix before allowing her in.

...

Inside the locker room, Dawn was changing into her swimsuit inside of a bathroom stall because, though she was a girl like the others in the locker room, that wasn't the case prior to how she had been isekai'd. It would always bother Dawn that she, now a pre-teen girl, was in her previous life an early twenties guy. That was part of the reason why she didn't exactly feel all that comfortable with watching the other girls change.

Coming out of the stall, Dawn met up with Chi-Chi, who stood guard outside of the stall that Dawn was changing in. "Hmm, your Infernape looks like she'd be an effective deterrent to boys trying to creep on you," the redhead girl remarked as she walked up to Dawn, "What with how she had been standing guard outside of the stall that you were changing in right now."

"Well I'm a bit sensitive to changing in a more public area than home..." Dawn admitted, trailing off.

The redhead girl, not knowing the true reason to Dawn saying that, merely acknowledged the response at its surface level value. "And it's even worse when boys creep on girls that are super shy, like you! Shy girls are always the sweetest and most innocent, so it's the absolute worst when they are creeped on by bo-"

"Hey, a wild Chatot wandered into the locker room," a brunette girl with a Glameow out said, making all of the girls turn to see that, indeed, a wild Chatot wandered into the girls' locker room. It was pecking at the ground as it walked along, even doing one or two hops. It looked to not even have noticed that the girls were in the locker room.

Smirking in mild amusement, Dawn said, "That Chatot obviously is foraging around for food. I say we take it outside and provide it with a dish so we can-"

"Hey, it's pulling Chrissie's shirt away!" the redhead girl exclaimed, cutting Dawn off as the wild Chatot, using its beak, grabbed a shirt on the ground over a pile of clothes away, before hopping over to peck at the shorts and other girl clothing under the shirt, then hopping away and proceeded to peck at the ground again.

"As much as I feel a bit uncomfortable with any Pokémon period messing with my clothes," the blonde girl with the male Vulpix said, confirming her name as Chrissie in the process, "It's clearly still just trying to forage for food. It probably moved my shirt out of the way thinking there was at least some manner of food under it."

The redhead girl was unmoved by the reasoning of the others in the locker room. "Chansey, use Attract on that wild Chatot!" the redhead girl ordered. Acting as told, Chansey used Attract, sending a few pink hearts at the wild Chatot as it looked at her. After getting hit by Chansey's Attract, Chatot's eyes became pink hearts as it cheered at Chansey while hopping up and down. "That's a male Chatot!" the redhead girl screamed incredulously, picking up a shirt and rolling it into a ball before throwing it at the Chatot, startling him as he got smacked in the front by the shirt.

"You're over reacting to a simple misunderstanding," Dawn scolded, walking over and picking up the wild Chatot, "Look, I'll take him outside and provide him with something to eat, given he's clearly just looking around for food like any wild Pokémon." Dawn, with Chi-Chi following her, walked out of the girls' locker room. Dawn was relieved for multiple reasons to be out of there, such as how girls her biological age were changing into swim outfits, and how she couldn't stand that redhead girl being so irrational over something that shouldn't really matter because Pokémon aren't humans.

Later, Dawn had met up with Kenny, who came walking out of the boys' locker room followed by Shallot. "For obvious reasons, I couldn't have Zarbon out with me in the boys' locker room," Kenny said, "Also, it's pretty neat we're aloud to have our Pokémon accompany us into the locker rooms, also where did the Chatot come from?"

Sighing as she saw Kenny point to the Chatot she was carrying like he was a baby, Dawn said, "It's a bit of a story." Dawn proceeded to tell Kenny everything, up to her taking Chatot out of the locker room the girls were using. "...And all because Chatot just so happens to be male!" Dawn said as she finished up the story she was telling.

Kenny nodded along a bit. "...Yeah, I'm glad Roshi didn't try following you into the girls' locker room." Looking at the Chatot, Kenny said with a wry look, "But I think that the Chatot here might have read a few cues from Roshi's book, given how he's nuzzling into your chest." Looking down at the Chatot she held in her arms, Dawn saw Chatot wear a sly and amused expression that made it clear he not only knew what he was up to, but liked he was pulling it off.

"...Lovely," Dawn said dryly. Setting the Chatot down on the sandy beach, Dawn said to him, "Look, Chatot. If I'm going to be feeding you and you want to 'cuddle up', then you might as well let me catch you." Folding her arms over her chest, Dawn went on, "I could always use another flying type Pokémon in my rotation, and you being a Chatot are a Pokémon of the Sinnoh region." The Chatot looked up at Dawn for a few moments in silence before he nodded.

Taking that at her cue, Dawn took an empty pokéball from her bag and expanded it before throwing it at the Chatot. He went into the pokéball before it fell to the sandy beach shore, where it shook for a few seconds before it made a ping sound, indicating capture. Dawn picked up the pokéball that held her newly caught Chatot before she scanned it with her pokédex. "Well it's a male Chatot, but then again I already knew that," Dawn remarked as she looked at Chatot's info, "He's got a naughty nature." Dawn rolled her eyes dryly. "...No surprise there. Huh, he's got Keen Eye as his ability."

"A keen eye for the ladies, perhaps?" Kenny suggested, the look on his face sly and amused.

Dawn shook her head to banish the joke Kenny made. After looking at the pokéball that held her newly caught Chatot, Dawn contemplated her new catch for a bit. "...I'm going to name him Pigeon."

'Will you start his training right away?" Kenny asked.

"No, because today is, as you had so colorfully put it, our beach episode," Dawn pointed out, "But I will get cracking on Pigeon's training soon." Dawn had to send Pigeon to the lab because her party was already full, but she was planning to train him later. Regardless of his less than optimal nature for his species and his 'interests', Dawn was still planning to train and raise Pigeon. And who can say? Pigeon may end up helping Dawn out later on down the road.

Later on, Dawn was watching as Leni was making a sand castle. As Dawn did this, Kenny came over to her carrying two snow cones he got from a vendor. Handing one snow cone over to Dawn, Kenny asked, "So what's Leni up to?"

"Making a sand castle," Dawn explained, "She saw two little kids do so and apparently wanted to give it a go herself."

Kenny turned to look at where Dawn's named Lucario was making a sand castle on the beach. "Hmm, well at least she looks like she's having fun." Giving Dawn a curious look, Kenny went on, "Yo dude, after I got the snow cones here, the person in line behind me came up. She was this girl who was about our age, but she was so fat that I'd say she outweighed the both of us combined at the very least."

"Why bring that up?" Dawn asked.

"It reminded me that Ash's Gardevoir is still on that diet and exercise regimen," Kenny said, "I can't help but wonder how Ash's Gardevoir is doing."

Dawn realized that Kenny had a point; Ash's Gardevoir, who was obese at the time she was caught by Ash, was put on a diet and exercise regimen to help her slim back down to the standard healthy weight for her species. Kenny admitting wonder as to how Ash's Gardevoir is doing had made Dawn wonder as well. It's been a week since she and Kenny had seen Ash and Brock, so maybe a little bit of progress had been made.

Shrugging, Dawn said, "We can ask Ash the next time that we see him. If anything, we'll see him and Brock at the Sinnoh league conference if not sometime before."

"One can only hope," Kenny replied. He and Dawn then proceeded to eat their snow cones as they watched Leni build a sand castle.

As Leni was building the sand castle, a trainer's Hitmonchan came over and knocked the sand castle down, making Leni cry out and forcing Dawn over. At the same time, a boy with a blonde crew cut came over as well. "Is that your Hitmonchan bullying my Lucario?" Dawn snapped at the blonde boy.

"Hey, he's just trying to impress the lady Pokémon here on the beach by asserting dominance over a weaker guy Pokémon on the beach," the blonde boy said, casually and like it was no big deal "It's just how-"

"One, picking on others like that typically does NOT 'impress the ladies'," Dawn began pointing out, "And two, my Lucario is one of 'the lady Pokémon' that you say your Hitmonchan wants to impress by being a beach bully!"

The blonde boy, looking confused, pointed to Leni and said, "That's a female Lucario?"

"Yes!" Dawn snapped, "Leni is a female Lucario!" As Dawn was arguing with the blonde boy, the redhead girl with the Chansey came over.

"Hey, what's going on?" asked the redhead girl.

Pointing at the blonde boy, Dawn said, "His Hitmonchan kicked over the sand castle my Lucario was building, being a typical beach bully because according to the blonde boy, Hitmonchan wants to impress lady Pokémon on the beach by asserting dominance over others. That's not going to work, especially since my Lucario is one of the female Pokémon that Hitmonchan supposedly wants to try to impress!"

Just to be sure, the redhead girl had Chansey check Leni by using Attract on her. When the Attract expectedly failed to work on Leni, the redhead girl turned on the blonde boy and his Hitmonchan. "How dare you let your Hitmonchan bully an innocent girl Pokémon like that! The both of you ought to be ashamed of yourselves!"

"Hey, how was Hitmonchan supposed to know that the girl's Lucario is a girl?" the blonde boy snapped back, "You don't really see the females of the Lucario species all that often, you know!" As the trainers argued, Leni glared at Hitmonchan as she aimed her right paw hand at Hitmonchan; Leni's eyes glowed as she used Psychic, blasting Hitmonchan with a telekinetic blast that sent him flying a few meters, not unlike how a certain hero with the blood of dragons in him can send people flying just by shouting at them.

As the blonde boy chased after his Hitmonchan, the redhead girl laughed as she said, "Serves you right for letting your Hitmonchan be a beach bully!" Turning to look at Dawn, the redhead girl asked, "Will your Lucario be alright?"

Turning to look as Leni who was already rebuilding her sand castle, Dawn replied, "She looks like she'll be fine."

Later, as Dawn was getting back from a vendor because she was getting a soda, she saw that Kenny was monitoring what looked to be a beach volleyball match where it was Cell, Kermit, and Shallot versus Chi-Chi, Akiza, and Leni. "...What are our Pokémon doing?" Dawn asked, gesturing to what was going on as she wore a mildly confused look.

"Well you can't have a proper beach episode without at least some beach volleyball action," Kenny explained, "So our Pokémon are going to play beach volleyball. Mine versus yours, boys versus girls. It's going to be a battle of the sexes."

Dawn turned her attention to the beach volleyball match, a mildly concerned look on her face. "Akiza has flowers for hands, and Shallot is four-legged without hands or arms. Can they properly play the game?"

"Don't underestimate our Pokémon," Kenny said as he threw the volleyball over to the Pokémon to begin the game.

To Dawn's mild surprise and amusement, the two teams of Pokémon were actually doing pretty good. Akiza just bumped the volleyball with her flower hands, and Shallot headbutted the volleyball or smacked it with his tail. The game was going pretty well, and it was even attracting a crowd, which included both Chrissie and the redhead girl with the Chansey. "Which team is winning right now?" asked the redhead girl.

Turning to face the redhead, Dawn explained, "Well neither team has won yet, but-"

"SCIZ!"

Dawn was cut off when she and the redhead girl heard Cell cry out in pain; turning to look, Dawn and the redhead girl both saw Cell stumbling around while he was covering his abdomen with his metal pincer claws. Additionally, Leni looked panicked and was clearly trying to apologize to Cell as he stumbled around in pain.

"Dawn, dude, your Lucario just nailed Cell in the shmeat with the volleyball!" Kenny exclaimed, "Granted it was clearly an accident, but still!"

As the redhead girl laughed in amusement at the misfortune a male had suffered, Dawn could only sigh in mild exasperation. "...I guess this means Cell will have to sit out for a bit."

...

When it was sunset, Dawn and Kenny decided to pack it in so that they could head back to the area in the forest that they were camping at earlier. They'd camp out for the night before heading on over to Sunyshore City because they probably wouldn't get there until really late if they tried going now. "So Dawn," Kenny began, "What did you think of our beach episode today?"

"Aside from your choice in how to refer to the fact we spent the day at the beach," Dawn began, "As well as how your Scizor took a critical hit while playing volleyball on the beach, I think that today was a pretty good day for our Pokémon to relax."

"Yeah, we ought to try it again sometime," Kenny said. Gently shaking his head, Kenny went on, "But that will be for later, as for now we will camp out for the night before we hit up Sunyshore City so we can give the gym leader over there the business, get our eighth and final badges each, then make it for the Sinnoh league conference!"

Dawn nodded along in agreement. She was actually rather looking forward to the Sinnoh league conference that would be taking place once enough people qualified. She was wondering how far she would go in it, but that all depended on who she faced and when. But regardless, she'd give it her all, as she always did.

Nothing less would do.

END, CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE

Author's notes;

Yeah, Route 222 has both a sandy beach area and some grassy areas along it on the way to reach Sunyshore City. Chatot can be found in the grass in the games, but in the anime setting, it wouldn't be all that out there to reason that a wild Chatot would wander on down to the beach and be caught there. Dawn will be training Pigeon, despite how his nature is far from being the first that most folks would pick for a Chatot, and who can say? Maybe he will come in handy later on down the road.

But that's not here nor there. Anyway, the next chapter will see Dawn and Kenny reach Sunyshore City for those shenanigans. Keep your eyes peeled for the fun to come.
