Pokémon: Sinnoh no Isekai
Chapter fifty-one: Battle for the title part two- Hall of fame
"Garchomp, use Dragon Rush!"
"Germany, use Earthquake!"
The battle between Dawn and Cynthia, an official league match where the winner either becomes or remains champion of Sinnoh depending on who wins, continued by seeing the two trainers pit their respective Garchomps against one another. Cynthia's Garchomp cloaked itself in a harsh blue light as it rushed right at Dawn's named Garchomp, who simply raised his arms up before pulling them down and back to trigger an earthquake.
The ground shook violently all around the battlefield as Cynthia's Garchomp, stopped due to getting hit by the seismic waves, lost its footing and its Dragon Rush petered out.
Pointing forward, Cynthia called out, "Garchomp, use Giga Impact!"
"Germany, counter with Iron Head!" Dawn commanded.
The two Garchomp rushed at one another once again. Cynthia's Garchomp was enveloped in a cloak of purplish energy that had orange streaks flying around it, whereas Germany's head shined like polished metal. The two Garchomps collided, both having difficulty pushing the other back by any significant degree. Giga Impact, despite having much higher base power, was a normal type move, which can be stopped cold by steel such as the move Iron Head.
The two Garchomp threw each other away from one another due to the collision, both taking notable damage. "Garchomp, use Brick Break!" Cynthia ordered.
"Germany, use Rock Tomb!" Dawn called out.
As Cynthia's Garchomp rushed in to strike at Germany, the named Garchomp summoned boulders down to strike at Cynthia's Garchomp. The attack didn't do much, but it did slow down Cynthia's Garchomp enough for Dawn to more clearly see it coming. Cynthia's Garchomp, despite how it had been slowed down a bit, was still able to get in fairly quickly and strike at Germany with Brick Break, dealing a good solid hunk of damage.
Gesturing forward, Dawn called out, "Germany, strike it back with Dragon Claw!"
"Garchomp, use Stone Edge!" Cynthia commanded.
The named Garchomp, his claws glowing fiercely with draconic power, slashed at Cynthia's Garchomp, striking it hard and pushing it back. However, Cynthia's Garchomp was able to summon up its Stone Edge attack and cast it at Germany. Despite how Germany was able to edure it due to how Stone Edge wasn't very effective, Dawn could tell that it had scored a critical hit. The reborn trainer figured that the contest between the two Garchomps was bound to end in the next couple of attacks or so.
Dawn wanted to end this quickly. "Germany, use Dragon Claw!"
"Garchomp, use Dragon Rush!" Cynthia ordered.
The two Garchomp charged right at one another once again, Germany with his claws glowing fiercely with draconic power, and Cynthia's Garchomp cloaked in a harsh blue light. They both hit one another as they passed by, stopping short in a scene reminiscent of two skilled swordsmen who stopped after striking and passing one another. The audience watched on intently as the two Garchomp stood still, wondering which one, if either, would go down.
...As it turned out, Cynthia's Garchomp collapsed the exact same time that Germany collapsed, both of them giving out pained, gasping cries before falling over onto the ground of the battlefield and passing out, both of them clearly out of it. Holding up both of his hands, the referee announced, "Both Cynthia's Garchomp and Dawn's Garchomp are unable to battle! This is a double knockout!"
The two trainers recalled their respective defeated Garchomps, the crowds going wild with how there had been yet another mirror match double knockout. As Dawn called back Germany, she muttered a silent apology to him, as well as thanking him for his efforts. Looking on, Dawn saw it when Cynthia sent her west sea Gastrodon back out, as it was her last Pokémon in the battle.
"This is the most fun I've ever had in a battle!" Cynthia called out to Dawn, "I don't remember the last time that I had been pushed back into a corner like this!"
"...But those pushed back into corners tend to be the most dangerous of all," Dawn replied, drawing a sincerely amused bark of laughter out of Cynthia. Dawn thought about her options with the four Pokémon that she had left; Chi-Chi and Cyrus were both beyond winded and would go down with one hit each, Chi-Chi especially given that she's weak to Gastrodon's dual typings. Leni still had a good bit of steam left in her to go, but being part steel type made the named Lucario vulnerable to Gastrodon's ground typing.
That being said, Dawn figured that her best bet would be to make the last showdown as much of a show as possible. "Alright, Tsukune!" Dawn said as she sent her named Palkia back out, "Let's get goin'!" Palkia roared as it re-emerged into the battle, looking down at where its opponent stood.
Cynthia, despite doing well to keep a cool air about her, couldn't hide all of her excitement at how she found herself on the ropes. Pointing forward, Cynthia called out, "Gastrodon, use Sludge Bomb!"
"Tsukune, counter with Flamethrower!" Dawn ordered.
Gastrodon conjured and fired its Sludge Bomb attack right at the named Palkia, who opened its mouth and spewed forth a blasting breath of fire. The two attacks collided into one another for a brief moment before Tsukune's Flamethrower won out, burning the Sludge Bomb to cinders as it went on to swamp Gastrodon, bathing it in a sea of flames. Gastrodon, due to a mix of resistance to fire and having been trained well by Cynthia, was able to endure it somewhat, although Gastrodon was burned in the process.
But the Flamethrower was mainly meant to counter Sludge Bomb. Pointing forward, Dawn called out, "Tsukune, use Spacial Rend!"
"Gastrodon, use Sludge Bomb again!" Cynthia commanded.
Both Pokémon fired their attacks, Gastrodon's Sludge Bomb flying in at Tsukune who had conjured and cast its Spacial Rend attack. The two attacks collided, but Spacial Rend actually shorn through the Sludge Bomb, resulting in two Sludge Bomb halves flying in different angles away, both passing by Tsukune and then Dawn behind it. The two halves of Sludge Bomb, having flown past Dawn, then hit the wall behind her, bursting it a bit and making the audience above the scene cry out in surprise a bit due to the close call.
Although that's what happened to Sludge Bomb, Spacial Rend went on to fly right at Gastrodon, striking it hard and making Gastrodon cry out in pain as it was thrown back into the wall behind its trainer. Gastrodon slammed into the damaged portion of that wall previously made when Milotic before it was slammed into the wall, although hardly anymore damage had been caused to the wall as a result.
However, what did catch everyone's attention was the fact that Gastrodon, after the dust kicked up by the impact had settled, was shown to have been knocked out. Seeing this, the referee made the call that would change history in the Sinnoh region. "Gastrodon is unable to battle! The winner is Palkia!" The referee then gestured over to where Dawn stood. "Victory of this title match battle goes to the title challenger, Dawn!"
The roaring cheers from the audience were deafening as Dawn, having won the battle against Cynthia, had just taken her title from her, becoming the new champion of Sinnoh in the process. It was rather overwhelming to Dawn who, having been so caught up in trying to just get through the battle, was only now realizing that she had actually won. The reborn trainer found that she had been able to indeed pull off what in her previous life she had done in the original Pearl and later on in the remake of that game.
Only this time, it was real life for her now.
Dawn had actually found herself trying to keep herself from crying due to how overwhelmed she was. Cynthia, seeing the trainer who had finally bested her trying to hold it in, smiled gently after she recalled her defeated Gastrodon. Walking up to Dawn, Cynthia got within easy talking distance of her before holding out a hand. "...At the very least," Cynthia began, "I'd like to be the first to shake hands with the new champion of Sinnoh."
The reborn trainer was brought out of her stoic vigilance in keeping her act together, the surprise of Cynthia offering a congratulatory handshake helping to keep Dawn from breaking down and crying due to how she still felt overwhelmed with what all she had accomplished. Dawn was able to put up a smile as she accepted the handshake, eliciting even louder cheers from the audience as they saw the dawn of a new champion for the Sinnoh region.
The dawn of Champion Dawn.
That evening after Dawn's Pokémon had all been fully treated, a special award ceremony was held to commemorate Dawn's rise to the position of Sinnoh's champion. Part of why Dawn's Pokémon all had to be treated was that the ceremony required all of them to be shown off to the cheering crowds who, once again, filled the bleachers. The last time that there was a ceremony to ring in a new Sinnoh champion was when Cynthia herself had become champion long ago.
Standing in the exact middle of the arena, with her Pokémon she had used to achieve her incredible feat in a circle formation around her, was Dawn standing on a platform stage. She was given a sash that said 'CHAMPION' to wear, going from her right shoulder to her left hip, and it was white with thin red boarders with the word 'CHAMPION' in big bold golden letters. Standing right behind Dawn on the platform stage were Mr. Goodshow and Cynthia, the now former Sinnoh champion.
Dawn, in addition to the sash she was given to wear, was also presented with a trophy that looked similar to the one she won for placing first in the Lily of the Valley Conference. The only difference is that it was fifty percent bigger overall, the red half of the pokéball decoration of the trophy had a glittery-type sparkling to it, and the trophy base had a plaque that listed Dawn as Champion Dawn Berlitz, as well as list all six of the Pokémon she used to become champion; it even listed them by their nicknames first before their species names, for example Chi-Chi/Infernape.
The reborn trainer was then presented with a special ribbon, reminding many who watched Dawn being awarded the ribbon of how coordinators in contests are awarded ribbons for winning. But it wasn't a contest ribbon that Dawn was awarded; rather, it was the Sinnoh Champion ribbon, which Dawn remembered from the games in her previous life as being awarded when one defeats the league and become champion.
Dawn, holding the trophy out, slowly turned around, showing it to all six of her Pokémon who all stood in the circle around where she stood. She then did the same, but this time she held out the Sinnoh Champion ribbon for all of them to see. It was their victory just as much as it was Dawn's, so it was only fair that they got to see the accolades that they had put in their hard efforts to achieve. Cynthia and Mr. Goodshow, when Dawn explained why she showed the trophy and ribbon off to her Pokémon, understood and even found themselves sincerely amused by it.
There wasn't a silent person that night on Lily of the Valley Island, given that everyone was partying to ring in the rise of the Sinnoh region's newest champion.
The following morning, Dawn had woken up in the trainer accommodations on Lily of the Valley Island. Looking around, Dawn saw that Brock and Kenny were still asleep in their beds, but Ash was not in his. Concerned, Dawn got up out of her bed and left the room to find Ash. After walking into a backyard court area attached to the trainer accommodations, Dawn found Ash standing there, his back to her when she came out. Pikachu, standing on his hind feet, stood next to Ash on the ground on his left, Pikachu's back also to Dawn.
The reborn trainer was a bit curious, as well as concerned. "Ash? Are you okay?"
Having heard Dawn speak up, Ash turned around to face her, with Pikachu doing the same. "Oh, hey Dawn. Congrats again on becoming the Sinnoh champ."
Dawn nodded once in acknowledgement. "Thanks. Anyway, I saw that you had gotten up before the rest of us. You okay?"
"Oh, I'm just wondering where my journey will take me next," Ash remarked, "Nothing too big to be worried about. Sorry if I had caused you any undue worry."
The reborn trainer offered a small smile in return. "...No need to worry." Looking up, Dawn said, "There's still some business here in Sinnoh that you could stick around for."
Arching an eyebrow, Ash said, "What do you mean?"
"Well for starters," Dawn began, "My mom and a few others in Twinleaf Town are organizing some big party to celebrate me having become the Sinnoh champion. I have no doubt that you, as well as Brock and Kenny, are welcome to come."
"Parties usually have great food, so count me in," Ash replied, with Pikachu giving a cry of agreement.
Dawn nodded once. "Yeah, I'd like to see what food they bring in as well." Getting serious, Dawn went on, "There's also the fact that we got that business going on with Mitchell and his older sister Rhyanna, right? I figure we can try to deal with fixing that."
Ash, looking a bit concerned, sucked in a cringing breath. "...Ooh, about that, Dawn."
Dawn had a dry, knowing look on her face upon hearing and seeing how Ash reacted to what she had said. "...You told Rhyanna where Mitchell was before we could mediate the problem between the two of them, didn't you?"
"Actually, it was Brock," Ash corrected, "He said that it bothered him too much that Ryhanna didn't know where her younger brother was, so he went ahead and gave her where Mitchell could be found over in Veilstone City."
Dawn let out a mildly resigned, mildly exasperated sigh. "...Well that mess just got a lot messier to deal with." Gently shaking her head, Dawn went on, "Well aside from the party in Twinleaf Town, and helping to try to fix things between Mitchell and Rhyanna, I don't feel that there's a lot left for me to do here in Sinnoh."
"Maybe you can challenge the Pokémon Leagues of other regions?" Ash offered, "Try to see if you can become champion there."
Dawn gently shook her head. "When Kenny suggested that very same idea last night after meeting up with me as Mr. Goodshow and Cynthia saw me off, Mr. Goodshow explained that no one trainer can hold more than one regional championship title at a time, and that if I won another I would have to choose between either keeping it and giving up the Sinnoh championship title, or choosing to not take the newer title and remain the Sinnoh champ."
Ash looked curious about that. "You can't have more than one regional championship title at a time? Why not?"
"Mr. Goodshow explained that it'd put one region at a political advantage against the others if a trainer from the first region held multiple regional championship titles, especially if said trainer held titles from the others arguing against the first. For example, it'd put Sinnoh at said advantage if I not only had the Sinnoh champ title, but also the ones from, say, Hoenn and Kanto."
Ash nodded in understanding. "That's fair. Sorry if I crossed a line."
"No need to worry," Dawn said once more, "Mr. Goodshow said that a lot of folks have come up with the same idea." Offering Ash a sly look, Dawn said, "However, I did ask Mr. Goodshow about if it'd be okay for me to simply challenge the gyms in other regions to earn the badges there without trying to aim for other regional league titles, and he replied by saying that not only was it perfectly fine, but that a 'gym challenge tour' was actually a great idea on how I, being the new Sinnoh champion, can be advertised to the other regions. Cynthia liked the idea too."
Ash perked up in amusement to that. "You're going to go to other regions to challenge the gyms there, Dawn?"
Dawn nodded in the affirmative. "Kenny said that he likes the sound of that and decided that he wanted to tag along with me and earn gym badges from the gyms of other regions too. The both of us are thinking of trying our hands at the gyms in Kanto first."
The Kanto region native nodded to Dawn as he gave her an amused smile. "You and Kenny will be in for a blast, Dawn. Trust me."
Smiling small but warmly, Dawn thanked Ash for the reassurance before going into detail on the party that was going to be held in Twinleaf Town. However, the conversation was interrupted when Dawn and Ash heard a familiar voice call out to them. "Never, even in my wildest dreams, did I ever consider the possibility that someone would be able to defeat Cynthia and take her title from her in an official match!" Looker said as he called out to Dawn and approached, "But here you stand!"
"Oh, Looker!" Dawn said, "What's up?"
Gesturing to Dawn, Looker said, "Me and a few of the lads from Interpol have found an old Team Galactic warehouse located on the outskirts of Veilstone City. It's not the main Team Galactic building in the city, but it is located close by."
Ash looked curious, as well as a bit suspicious since Team Galactic was being mentioned. "Why tell this to Dawn?"
"This is one of those circumstances where us Interpol guys need clearance from a region's champion in order to proceed," Looker explained, "Sort of like official missions we've done over in Johto with Lance's okay. He's even joined us on a few, and it was a good thing he did, either because him being there gave our missions more legality, or because we got into pinches that he helped us out of."
"I see," Dawn replied.
"I had actually approached Cynthia about the matter originally," Looker explained, "But she informed me that she couldn't give us the go ahead from Sinnoh's champion that we need because she's no longer the champion. She then told me about you, Dawn, before showing me a video on her phone that someone uploaded to the internet of the battle where you defeated Cynthia and became the new Sinnoh champ. So here I am, asking you for the okay to check out that warehouse located over in Veilstone City."
Dawn gave the thought a moment of consideration. "...Actually, Looker," Dawn began, "My friends and I have business over in Veilstone City to handle, mostly because I had just learned from Ash that our pal Brock had jumped the Sharpedo on something that I thought we had agreed we would tackle with more control." Looking up at Looker, Dawn asked, "Would you be able to give us all a lift over to Veilstone City? I'll even help with the warehouse raid."
"We have plenty of space in the helicopters, so adding a few more people shouldn't be a problem," Looker replied, glad to have Sinnoh's newest champion on board, "We got about an hour to head out, so get ready." Dawn and Ash nodded in understanding before heading back inside, with Looker going along to help explain things to Brock and Kenny inside. Dawn was betting that the boys would be glad to see Looker again.
Thanks to the helicopters, the heroes were able to make a trip that on foot would have taken ages in only a few hours; two and a half tops. After the helicopters landed, Looker got out of one with the heroes all getting out after him. "We suspect that various mechanical equipment might be inside of the warehouse," Looker said, "Interpol has warrants to seize everything that looks suspicious, and we've got to destroy everything inside that either we can't bring back, have no need for, or is deemed as too dangerous."
The heroes all nodded in understanding. "Got it, chief," Dawn said as she and the boys gave Looker a salute.
The force then went in and barged their way into the Team Galactic owned warehouse. All of the people ran in with a Pokémon each at their side; for the heroes, this saw Dawn rush in with Chi-Chi, Kenny rush in with Cell, Ash rush in with Pikachu, and Brock rush in with Croagunk. Looker rushed in with two Pokémon at his side, his own Croagunk and a Growlithe. After a quick sweep, the force was able to confirm that there wasn't anyone inside; a scant few wild Pokémon, a Bidoof, a Starly, a Wrumple, and a Stunky, were inside but they all ran away when the humans busted in.
With the warehouse secured, Looker led everyone in the search and seizing part of the raid. They found a number of machines, including a few spare stasis pods; Ash recalled that the ones that the Lake Guardians were in looked exactly like these. Looker, as he had some of the men take the spare stasis pods in as evidence, assured the heroes that they will never see any evil use. They'll just be simply examined and, once everything is learned about them, destroyed.
During the raid, Dawn came across something that caught her attention; opening a storage closet, she found thin flat boxes that looked to be the kinds that clothes come in if they're whole outfits. Opening one, Dawn found that it held a complete Team Galactic grunt outfit. There were even multiple pairs of the footware worn as part of the Team Galactic grunt outfit. Dawn brought this to the attention of Looker.
"Ah yes," Looker said, "Reminds me of when I had to steal a Team Galactic member uniform in order to investigate their activities over in Mt. Coronet. That was the mission where I found you kids and that wild west sea Shellos."
"Fun fact," Kenny said, "Dawn here actually kept the metal staff she had picked up that day. She left it in her room back at her and her mom's place over in Twinleaf Town."
Looking at the uniforms, Looker said with a shrug, "Well these aren't on the list, so I see no reason to care if any of you kids for some odd reason want to take a uniform set as a souvenir."
"I... was actually going to ask if it'd be okay to take one of the uniform sets," Dawn admitted.
"And I'll take the rest," Kenny said, "I have an idea for a sitcom, and you never know when an extra couple of villainous team member uniforms might come in handy." Turning to look at Ash and Brock, Kenny added, "Unless one of you guys wants one yourselves."
Ash chuckled a bit. "No thanks, I'm good to go without dressing up like I'm a member of a villainous team."
Brock nodded in agreement. "Yeah, you guys have fun."
"Oh Brock," Dawn spoke up, getting his attention, "When the business is done here, you, me, Ash, and Kenny need to go see to something else while we're here in Veilstone City."
Brock looked curious about Dawn bringing that up. "What do you mean?"
Dawn gave Brock a dry, mildly accusatory look as she said, "Ash told me you went ahead and gave to Rhyanna where Mitchell was at, before we were ready to try to handle things there properly."
"I still think that Rhyanna, as Mitchell's older sister, has the right to know where her little brother is so she can try to reach out to him," Brock said.
Folding his arms over his chest, Kenny said, "Even though the little dude has made it clear that he doesn't want to see his older sister right now?"
"I don't want what happened with me and one of my little siblings to happen to Rhyanna and Mitchell!" Brock said firmly, catching the other heroes by surprise a little bit. After things settled down and the raid was over, the heroes, after Dawn and Kenny made arrangements concerning the Team Galactic grunt uniforms they got a hold of, proceeded to make their way over to the Veilstone City gym, as that's where they expected to find Mitchell.
END, CHAPTER FIFTY-ONE
Author's notes;
This chapter sees the conclusion of the championship title match between Dawn and Cynthia, where the former defeats the latter and becomes the new Sinnoh champion. After an award ceremony, Dawn has what can be considered her 'post-game content' lined up. She'll be going to the other regions to challenge their gyms to earn the badges there, with Kenny also going along due to a desire to earn the badges as well, and a secret something else involving Pokémon battles that'll be hinted at in the chapters to come.
Speaking of, there's a few more chapters here before Dawn and Kenny wrap up their business in Sinnoh so they can get started on their gym challenge tour. The end of this chapter showed Dawn flex her new Sinnoh champion authority muscles by giving the okay for interpol to do a raid on a Team Galactic warehouse, where Dawn and Kenny are allowed to take extra Team Galactic grunt uniforms that are found.
There's going to be a party in Twinleaf Town to celebrate Dawn becoming the Sinnoh champion, where Dawn and Kenny will announce their intention to go on their plan for a gym challenge tour. Also, Paul will show up at some point between the next chapter and Kanto to show how his redemption arc is going. But before all of that will be the next chapter, where Mitchell and his older sister Rhyanna will show up again in person because of some bad blood that Mitchell has against Rhyanna. It'll also show why Brock was so insistent that Rhyanna knows where to find her little brother, with his reason being hinted at here in this chapter. Take care.
