Pokémon: Sinnoh no Isekai
Chapter Sixty-six: Heroes of Kanto
A few police officers rushed right into the museum in Pewter City. They were told that two large Pokémon appeared within and were going on rampages. Furthermore, they also received word that two foreign trainers from Sinnoh, one of which being Dawn Berlitz who recently became the newest champion of the Sinnoh league, were confronting the two large Pokémon. It would be very bad news for Kanto politically speaking if the two foreigners from Sinnoh (again, one of them is the new champion of Sinnoh) were hurt while on Kanto soil due to the actions of Kanto natives.
Upon doing a quick sweep, the police discovered Dawn and her Staraptor Cyrus first. After they helped her up, they asked her about what she knew about the large rampaging Pokémon. This had prompted Dawn to let out a tired, resigned sigh before she proceeded to give a general impression of what all had gone down.
"Yeah," Dawn began, "I got it down that two idiots who are part of the fossil restoration team working here at the museum decided that it'd be a good idea to test the random theory of a museum guard, and use whatever tech that they use to revive Pokémon from fossils to revive Pokémon from the pair of Hisuian alpha Pokémon skeletons that were going to be part of the Hisuian exhibit that was going to open up starting today."
"Where are the large rampaging Pokémon now?" asked the leading police officer in the group that was getting details from Dawn.
Holding up an expanded Ultra Ball that she held, Dawn explained, "I actually caught the alpha Hisuian Arcanine. My friend Kenny, last I checked, was confronting the alpha Hisuian Lilligant." With a concerned look on her face, Dawn asked, "Do you know if Kenny-"
"Sir!" a second police officer said, coming up to the first and cutting Dawn off in the process, "We have just found a boy with a Glaceon, and the boy says that he caught... umm... Shallot's girlfriend, whatever that means."
Dawn had a dry, monotone, mildly unamused look on her face. "...Kenny's fine."
...
The two members of the museum's fossil restoration team that were responsible for what all had gone down not only ended up being fired, but arrested as well. The guard who gave them the idea to do what he did also got into a bit of trouble, but wasn't fired; he was on some thin ice though, given that it was his unintentional prompt that gave the now ex-members of the fossil restoration team the idea to do what they did.
The persons running the Hisuian exhibit were not only devastated that some of the displays for the Hisuian exhibit were damaged beyond repair, but they were also very sorry for what all damage was done to the museum as a whole. They were, however, interested to hear that the ex-members of the fossil restoration team were able to successfully revive Pokémon from both of the alpha Hisuian Pokémon skeletal remains, though both skeletal remains were used up in the process.
"This could bring study of the Hisuian period to a whole new level!" one of the exhibit team members said as he, as well as Oak, Agatha, and Lance, looked at the alpha Hisuian Arcanine that Dawn caught, and the alpha Hisuian Lilligant that Kenny caught.
"My word!" Oak said, "I never thought that I'd see living examples of Pokémon exclusive to the Hisuian period! Oh ho ho, Professor Elm thought he could keep me from seeing such Pokémon by keeping his golden boy away from me!"
Agatha looked at Oak, gave him a look that had a mix of feelings in it. "...You know, despite how you had tapped out of actively being a trainer ages ago," Agatha said, prompting Oak to turn to look at her, "You showed some remarkable strength of character today, what with helping with the evacuation of the museum while the remarkable young trainers handled business. Perhaps you aren't as weak as I had pegged you for."
Oak returned Agatha's look, with a dash of somber realization thrown in. "...Actually, you aren't entirely wrong to feel the way you told me that you feel. I really did rush right into researching about Pokémon without giving anyone any warning or even a hint beforehand. It was something I still wanted to do, and I don't regret getting into it, but perhaps I should have taken a few things into consideration before I had started."
"So both of you realize that you're in the wrong," Lance began, "And are apologizing for what wrongs that you're responsible for." After both Oak and Agatha nodded in agreement, Lance sighed. "Well at least that issue is at least starting to resolve itself." Turning to look at the Hisuian exhibit team members, Lance asked, "Now, what about the revived alpha Hisuian Pokémon? What is to become of them, now that they've been revived into modern times?"
"The leader of our team said that it's not like we have the capability of making the Pokémon part of the exhibit," the first exhibit team member said, "So it was decided that Dawn and her friend would be allowed to keep the alpha Hisuian Pokémon they respectively caught, provided that they can at least have notes taken on them and have copies of said notes sent to us."
Putting his hands on his hips, Oak went on, "Well Dawn and Kenny's Pokémon are staying at the ranch that's part of my lab. I can always study their Hisuian Pokémon when they're not being carried by Dawn and Kenny."
Kenny let out a sigh of relief. "Well thank goodness I'm being allowed to keep Priestess, given that I already named her and she's going to be wanting to mack some more on Shallot." When Kenny mentioned Shallot by name, the alpha Hisuian Lilligant held her hands to her cheeks as she blushed, closed her eyes, and slightly twisted from side to side like a bashful schoolgirl.
"You named her before it was decided whether or not you'd be allowed to keep her?" Dawn said, "Given the situation, you should have at least been ready for the possibility that the people running the exhibit would want to confiscate the Hisuian Pokémon. You're lucky that it was decided we'd be allowed to keep them."
Shrugging, Kenny said, "Well it was sort of a knee jerk reaction. Oh! Since you get to keep Arcanine, do you have any ideas for names for him?"
Dawn turned to look at her alpha Hisuian Arcanine, who after staring back at her for a moment proceeded to calmly pant like what can reasonably be expected out of canine Pokémon. The air he was giving off was calmed down, relaxed, even a little happy if his wagging tail were any indication of that. Dawn smiled a bit as she looked up at Arcanine. "...I'll be naming him Argent," Dawn said, a bit surprised that both Argent and Priestess were no longer riled up.
Did being caught by trainers banish all of their rage and hostility? Dawn wanted to make a note of that and ask experts for their opinions slash theories on the matter.
After a few last minute details were taken care of, Dawn and Kenny were taken back to Pallet Town by Oak and Lance. The champion of the Indigo League wanted to take Dawn and Kenny to Indigo Plateau City straight away, but Oak said that he wanted to present something to Dawn and Kenny first before all of that business Lance wanted to do was taken care of. Lance, clearly seeing Oak as a great authority, deferred to him without complaint.
"I must say, you two," Oak remarked, "You've done so much in your relatively short time here in Kanto. I would like to think most of what you both had done outside of challenging the gyms here to earn Kanto gym badges was stuff you weren't expecting to do!"
"I thought that Dawn and I would literally only do the gym challenges," Kenny admitted, raising a hand.
Oak chuckled in amusement. "No problem. You kids have done more good than you could have possibly imagined. As such, there's something I'd like to offer to the both of you." Oak then took out three pokéballs, expanded them, and tossed them up, calling out a Bulbasaur, a Charmander, and a Squirtle in the process. Seeing the three Kanto starter Pokémon there surprised and amazed both Dawn and Kenny.
Gesturing to the three Pokémon, Oak said, "As you can see, these are a Bulbasaur, a Charmander, and a Squirtle, the three Pokémon offered to trainers beginning their trainer careers here in Kanto. I'm going to let both of you pick one of these each to keep." Looking to Dawn, Oak said, "I will let you pick first, Dawn."
Although Dawn, in her previous life, was more of a fan of Sinnoh than any of the other regions, she still enjoyed the games set in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Unova, Kalos, Alola, and Galar. She also had a habit of, whenever she played a region for the first time, always picking the fire type starter. As such, Dawn after looking at the three Kanto starter Pokémon for a moment, turned to look at Oak and said, "I would like to take Charmander if that's okay with you, sir."
Charmander, upon hearing that Dawn picked it, jumped up and down happily. Oak smiled and chuckled a bit at this. "Very well, Dawn," Oak said as he handed a pokéball over to Dawn, "Here's Charmander's pokéball." Upon receiving Charmander's pokéball from Oak, Dawn scanned it to see Charmander's general info; Charmander is a female, has the timid nature, and the Blaze ability. "Oh, would you be interested in giving a nickname to Charmander?" Oak asked.
Looking down at Charmander who had by now wandered up to her, Dawn smiled gently. "...Yes. I'm going to name her Amy."
To Kenny, Oak asked, "Now Kenny, is there one between Bulbasaur and Squirtle you would like?"
"Yeah, Professor O," Kenny replied, "I'm really feeling some good vibes coming from Bulbasaur." Bulbasaur cheered upon being picked, leaving the un-chosen Squirtle a bit dejected.
"Well alright then," Oak said, "Here's Bulbasaur's pokéball. Also, would you be interested in giving your Bulbasaur a nickname?"
Kenny hummed in consideration before he scanned Bulbasaur's pokéball with his pokédex. "...Ah, Bulbasaur's a boy," Kenny said. Looking down at Bulbasaur, Kenny said, "I'm really feeling that the best name for him will be Cermit."
Oak had a mildly confused look on his face. "Wait a minute Kenny, isn't Kermit the name that you gave to your Politoed?"
"Kermit the Politoed's name uses the K-e-r-m-i-t spelling," Kenny proceeded to explain, "But Cermit the Bulbasaur's name uses the C-e-r-m-i-t spelling, making Cermit the Bulbasaur 'Kermit with a C'." Dawn couldn't help but face palm at what Kenny was doing with his Pokémon's names. Well it was still harmless enough, and his Pokémon themselves didn't seem to mind, so Dawn was going to let things slide here for now.
Lance chuckled a bit in good nature. "I hope you two take good care of the Pokémon that Professor Oak was kind enough to give to you," Lance said, "They are bound to be powerful allies in your trek through the world of being Pokémon trainers." Gesturing for Dawn and Kenny to follow him, Lance went on, "Well anyway, we ought to get going to Indigo Plateau City. There's a-"
"Excuse me!" a random female voice called out, cutting Lance off unknowingly, before everyone was greeted by the sight of a woman who looked like she was part of a history research group coming on into the lab. "I'm looking for Dawn Berlitz," the woman said.
Looking mildly confused, Dawn said, "Yeah, that's me. Why do you-" This time it was Dawn who was cut off when the woman took a book out of her bag and handed it over to Dawn. The title of the book was 'Paranoia's Price'.
"I'm part of the group managing the Hisuian exhibit that would have gone on display at the museum in Pewter City had it not been for the little episode caused by those fossil restoration team members who were fired and then arrested," the woman said, "I would first like to apologize for how your experience at the exhibit was ruined, and also thank you for your efforts in helping to contain the problem before it got too out of hand."
"I did stuff there too," Kenny muttered in a mildly bemused tone, "But whatever."
Trying again to hand the book to Dawn, the woman said, "This is a copy of the book 'Paranoia's Price'. This book is a collection of the writings of the woman who effectively conquered and settled all of Hisui, allowing for it to ultimately one day become Sinnoh."
Dawn, with a curious look on her face, received the book from the woman as Oak lit up with clear interest. "Oh ho ho!" Oak said, "I've been meaning to get a copy of that book! It gives such a rich and detailed insight to life in the Hisuian period!" Folding his arms over his chest, Oak went on with a mild hint of grumpiness to his expression, "But copies of that book are quite rare, and if a copy is up for sale, it's never cheap."
Holding the book in her hand, Dawn looked at the cover; it was plain and had no image, just the title at the top and the name of the woman whose writings were collected into it at the bottom. It was the name of the woman who caught Dawn's attention, though; Lilimon Sengoku. "The woman's first name is the name of a Digimon from that anime series in my previous life," Dawn thought, "And her last name is the name of a period from the history of Japan in my previous life. I don't think that the words 'Lilimon' and 'Sengoku' are naturally occurring words in the world of Pokémon."
Looking up from the book to the woman who gave the book to her, Dawn said, "Thank you, ma'am. I have a feeling I'll want to read this."
"I... don't suppose you'd let me read it when you're done?" Oak asked, prompting everyone there to laugh in good nature. Although things felt okay for the time being, there was still a few things that Dawn wanted to look into.
Some answers she wanted to get.
A short while later, Dawn and Kenny were on the road with Lance, riding in a limo taking them straight to Indigo Plateau City. "...Huh, the Hisuian period was a lot more violent than I would have given it credit for," Dawn said as she read Paranoia's Price, "Apparently, Lilimon and her forces she brought to besiege Jubilife Village in her bid to conquer it had no qualms with killing those who had resisted their efforts."
"Such is the nature of war," Lance remarked, "Especially way back then."
"Did Lilimon have some grand role she played in the siege?" Kenny asked, "Like a grand showdown against the then leader of Jubilife Village?"
Smiling while giving off a mildly amused hum, Dawn closed the book. "...Sorry, but that would be spoilers." Soon after Dawn said that, the limo pulled to a stop. "We've arrived, I take it?" Dawn asked.
"Indeed," Lance said as he got out, prompting Dawn and Kenny to follow him. The two reborn trainers were both amazed with the modern bustling of Indigo Plateau City, reminding them of how packed and energetic Lily of the Valley Island was. "Anyway, there's a reason why I had brought you two here," Lance said.
"You... want to have a party with us?" Kenny half asked half guessed.
"Not a straight up party, per say," Lance replied, "Rather, Mr. Goodshow wanted to reward you two for what all you've done to help the Kanto region while you were here."
Kenny had a confused look on his face. "Mr. Goodshow?"
Rolling her eyes, Dawn said, "You call him Goodbeard because of his beard."
"Oh yeah, now I know who we're talking about!" Kenny said, "So what's Goodbeard going to do?"
Gesturing to Dawn and Kenny, Lance said, "Well basically he's going to host a private lunch ceremony only VIPs can attend, during which he'll list off what deeds you two have done in Kanto, then present each of you with a Pokémon League Badge, which is normally given to those who take part in the Indigo Plateau Pokémon League Conference."
Lance took out a photo and showed it to Dawn and Kenny, showing them a large award in the photo that looked like two white wings under a light blue glass-like three pointed star, and all of that came out of a green base with a golden bronze pokéball design sealing it. "This is what it looks like, in case you were wondering," Lance said to the reborn trainers.
Dawn and Kenny both looked up from the photo to Lance. "It looks very lovely," Dawn remarked, "And I would-"
"AAAAAAHHHHHHH!"
Dawn was cut off when she and the guys heard some men screaming; they turned their heads and saw some construction workers running from a nearby lightly forested area. "...I was told there was going to be some digging near Victory Road cave," Lance muttered. The Indigo League champion waved over the fleeing construction men. "Hey! What happened?" Lance asked.
"We accidentally woke up a very strong and angry Rhydon with our construction near the caves that are nearby," the first worker said, "It charged at us and made us run away and-"
"RAHUHHEHH!"
The workers, as well as Dawn, Kenny, and even Lance a bit all jumped when they heard that roar. Within moments, a wild Rhydon came charging on in towards the workers when it spotted them; the Rhydon was determined to be a female by Dawn, who could tell due to the length of Rhydon's drill horn. As the workers cowered, Lance stepped forward boldly.
"I shall take care of this Rhydon and still have time to take Dawn and Kenny to the award ceremony for them," Lance declared. Tossing up a pokéball, Lance said, "Dragonite, I choose you!" Upon coming out into battle, Lance's Dragonite roared at the wild Rhydon. "Use Dragon Claw!" Lance ordered as he cast his right hand forward.
Dragonite flew in, its claws glowing fiercely with draconic power. But the wild Rhydon caught Dragonite by the top edge of its wings before opening her maw, her teeth growing long as they glowed a bright icy blue, before biting down on Dragonite's left shoulder area, making Dragonite cry out in a mix of great pain and surprise. "That Rhydon knows Ice Fang!" Lance said, "Ooh, this will be trouble indeed!"
Lance then recalled Dragonite before sending out his Gyarados, which was red due to being a shiny. Lance had Gyarados unleash a powerful Hyper Beam, but Rhydon tanked it and charged on in before she bit down on Gyarados with teeth glowing yellow and crackling with electricity, making Gyarados cry out in pain before falling back. "It also knows Thunder Fang!" Lance called out, "That Rhydon is proving to be a really big thorn in my-"
"Akiza, use Giga Drain!" Dawn called out, making Lance turn to see Dawn had her Roserade out, who used Giga Drain on the wild Rhydon. She cried out as Giga Drain damaged her greatly by draining her energy. Rhydon wasn't quite done yet, as she then turned her attention to whoever it was that had actually been able to hurt her. Spotting Akiza, Rhydon roared out before charging right at the Sinnoh native species.
"Akiza, use Giga Drain again!" Dawn ordered. Akiza at Dawn's command cast another Giga Drain at Rhydon, draining more of her energy and making her drop to one knee before falling over, totally drained. Seeing an opportunity, Dawn took out a pokéball, expanded it, and threw it at Rhydon. She went into the pokéball before it fell to the ground and shook for a bit before it made a ping sound, indicating capture.
"...Amazing," Lance said as Dawn resolved the issue with the Rhydon. It was overall a classic case of wild Pokémon peacefully minding its own business before it was prompted by rude humans to go on a rampage. After getting it that there was virtually no manner of security for the workers working on construction near Victory Road Cave, Lance agreed to make arrangements for the men to be protected from any more wild Pokémon attacks.
Speaking of wild Pokémon, or in this case formerly wild Pokémon, Dawn took a look at her newly caught Rhydon by scanning her pokéball with the pokédex. Rhydon was indeed female, and she had a jolly nature and the Rock Head ability. Rhydon also knew Stone Edge and Earthquake in addition to her displayed Ice Fang and Thunder Fang. "...Despite the lower base power than Stone Edge, I'm going to look into having Shalltear learn Rock Tomb for her rock attack," Dawn said as she looked at her Rhydon's pokéball, "But yeah, I can already tell she will be a solid addition to my rotation."
"Ah, you're naming your Rhydon," Lance remarked with a nod, "And I will agree that she will be very strong. She had been able to hold her own against Dragonite and Gyarados, and that's as a wild Pokémon with no proper training supervised by a skilled and competent trainer such as yourself. Who knows how far she'll go under your command?" Dawn then nodded in agreement with Lance, especially since the reborn trainer had plans to evolve Shalltear into Rhyperior soon, given that she had a Protector to use for it.
She decided to wait on evolving Shalltear until after she is taught and masters Rock Tomb, though.
Even with the delay that was dealing with saving workers from a wild Pokémon they disturbed with their working, Dawn and Kenny were still brought to the ceremony by Lance with ample time to spare. During the luncheon, Mr. Goodshow awarded the two reborn trainers one Pokémon League Badge each, to symbolize their now completed trek through Kanto, as well as how they had both done so much to help the Kanto region.
A completely different award would have been made and granted instead, but everyone was pressed due to a mix of time and having to deal with some chaotic messes, at least two of which were resolved with the help of Dawn and Kenny.
Dawn and Kenny spent the rest of the day and all the night at a hotel in Indigo Plateau City, then the following morning collected their stuff, went to an airport, and returned home to Sinnoh.
...
Dawn and Kenny spent the rest of their first day back in Sinnoh more or less recovering from the jet lag. Dawn was, however, able to set up the various accolades she earned while in Kanto to join the rest of her now steadily growing collection of trophies. After waking up the day after getting back to Sinnoh, Dawn took some time to look at her new accolades.
Her Kanto gym badges were in a frame along the same level of wall as her Sinnoh badges, the (now technically worthless) Pokémon League Admissions Exam Badge was in a small individual frame like the Arrowroot and Sinnoh champion ribbons and hung on the wall with them, and the Pokémon League Badge was on the mantle with both the Lily of the Valley winner trophy and the trophy she got for becoming Champion of Sinnoh.
'Paranoia's Price' was sitting on top of the piles of various magazines and newspapers that had articles of her exploits, the pile itself having grown with additions detailing her exploits over in the Kanto region.
Dawn thought about how the girl she had reincarnated as, anime!Dawn, would probably never be as accomplished as she is. Dawn also realized that she's obtained a lot of the Pokémon that her counterpart from the anime in her previous life had; Piplup, Mamoswine, Togekiss, and Lopunny who evolved from Buneary. She also caught a Buizel and evolved it into Floatzel. Thinking about all of this, it made Dawn realize something.
She wanted to 'complete the list', as it were.
From what Dawn figured, she was missing three Pokémon. Conveniently for her, Dawn and Kenny were set to go to Johto, where Dawn knew that she can get two of the three Pokémon on said list. As for the third Pokémon on the list, it was conveniently a species native to Sinnoh; Dawn just had to go out and track one down. As Dawn was thinking about this, she heard a knock at her bedroom door, catching her attention.
"Dawn," Johanna called out, "Kenny is here asking if you're ready for the plans you and he have for going to the Johto region!"
"...I just need his help for one thing while we're still in Sinnoh," Dawn called back, before moving to leave her room. After heading down the stairs, Dawn entered the living room and encountered Kenny standing there; he must of recovered from jet lag a lot quicker than what Dawn expected, but Dawn was feeling a bit more energetic now, given she had something she wanted to do while she was still in Sinnoh and before she and Kenny left for Johto.
Nodding to Dawn, Kenny said, "Just wanted to see if you were ready for our trip to Johto to continue our Gym Challenge Tour and other further adventure."
Smiling calmly, Dawn replied, "Yes, but I want to do something first before we leave, while we're still here in Sinnoh."
Kenny looked curious at Dawn saying she wanted to do something before leaving their home region. "Oh? And what is it that you want to do, my main man?" Dawn let out a calming breath right before she looked at Kenny with a serious expression.
"I want to catch a Pachirisu."
END, CHAPTER SIXTY-SIX
Author's notes;
This chapter sees the end of Dawn and Kenny's exploits in Kanto, but not without a send off and seeing them get a few new Pokémon each while in a foreign region. Speaking of getting some new Pokémon, Dawn now has a plan to get the Pokémon that her counterpart from the anime in her previous life had, and while she (mostly unintentionally) got a decent head start on that, she's still missing three of them.
Two can be snagged when Dawn and Kenny go to Johto to continue their Gym Challenge tour, but the third can be snagged right there in Sinnoh. Dawn will be aiming to find and catch a Pachirisu in the next chapter, so don't turn that dial.
Dawn's Pokémon: (on hand) Chi-Chi (female Infernape), Shalltear (female Rhydon), Amy (female Charmander), Leni (female Lucario), Argent (male Arcanine; Hisuian; alpha), Tsukune (Palkia)
Kenny's Pokémon: (on hand), Roshi (male Torterra), Cermit (male Bulbasaur), Shallot (male Glaceon), Priestess (female Liligant; Hisuian; alpha), Zarbon (male Machamp), Black (Giratina)
