Chapter Eighty-seven: Blackthorn battles, part four

Dawn and Kenny, along with Katsuku, rushed their way back to Blackthorn City Academy, given that Blackthorn City as a whole suddenly came under attack from Team Scorn. Although the city as a whole was being assaulted, there was a concentrated effort on Blackthorn City Academy. Lance, Clair, the school staff, and all of Katsuku's classmates and schoolmates were over there, and they needed to get there to help them out.

"This is insane!" Katsuku barked, "What the hell are those Team Scorn bastards doing, attacking Blackthorn City and saying they'll raze the academy to the ground?!"

Dawn looked grim as she, the boys, and their Pokémon they had out at the time all ran. "They said that they wanted to make everyone feel terrorised. It's obvious that Team Scorn wants to scare the world at large into complying with what they want, hence why they're launching a terrorist attack here in Blackthorn City."

"They do realize that not just Johto," Kenny began, "But all of the other regions in the world as well, will only be rallied against them, right?"

"And I'll be seeing Sinnoh be among the first to bring the fight to Team Scorn for their attack here on Johto!" Dawn swore, with Chi-Chi at her side crying out in agreement.

The three trainers and their Pokémon all rounded a corner, and were able to make a straight dash towards Blackthorn City Academy when it was in clear sight of them. However, they got held up by a trio of Team Scorn grunts, two male and one female. "Hold it!" the lone female grunt of the trio said, "If you think you can go over to that fancy school for Pokémon trainers and confront Captain Quaid and Admin Brother, then you all got another thing coming!"

The grunts then sent their Pokémon out, a Zubat from each of the males and a Golbat from the female. "Once we're through with you sorry lot," the female grunt went on, "We're going to-"

"Godzilla, use Rock Slide!" Kenny called out, cutting off the female grunt and prompting his named Pupitar to summon a rock slide to rain down on all three of the bat Pokémon the grunts had sent out, defeating all of them. The grunts recalled their Pokémon and sent out one more each, Raticates from the males and a Furret from the female. "...You're the ones in over your heads here," Kenny said as he swiped his right thumb against the right side of his nose, "You'll be the ones losing here."

"Heh," Katsuku said, his tone radiating dark amusement as he cracked his knuckles, "A lot of crap from my past had been thrown in my face today. I need to let off some steam as a result. You guys waltzing on into Blackthorn City, attacking and trying to cause chaos, has given me an excuse to work off some of that steam." Katsuku's Feraligatr snapped its maw at the Team Scorn grunts.

Dawn cracked her neck a bit, a gesture mirrored by her named Infernape. "...You done walked into the wrong neighborhood here, I'm afraid."

Over inside of Blackthorn City Academy, Lance and Clair were leading the homeroom classes of Suwabe and Matsuda. Following along behind them were Suwabe and Matsuda themselves, plus Akeno; Yasuhiro and Kenta went to go help some of the other staff members of the school in trying to fight off Team Scorn. "Hey Mr. Suwabe! Mr. Matsuda!" the girl with the black ponytail called out, trying to get the teachers' attention.

"What is it, Colleen?" Suwabe said, "This is the third time you've tried to get our attention for some odd reason or an-"

"Amanda isn't with us!" the now identified Colleen snapped, clearly a bit at wits end if her tone was any indication, "That's what I've been trying to tell you and Mr. Matsuda for the past few minutes!"

Both homeroom teachers, as well as Lance, Clair, and most of the students, looked alarmed. The boy with long spiky red hair was looking around in a panic. "Holy crap, Colleen's right!" the red haired boy exclaimed, "Amanda isn't with us! We gotta find her!"

"I think that Amanda might be in the library," said a girl with with long dark green mildly wavy hair, "She's always in the library after classes are done for the day, so she might have gone there to do school work until it was time to go to the stadium to see Clair battle that boy who is with Dawn Berlitz."

The red haired boy immediately moved to leave the group to run off somewhere, but he was stopped when Suwabe called out, "Justin, stay with the group!" The now identified Justin stopped short from leaving the group. "...Either me or Matsuda or Akeno will go to the library to see if Amanda is there," Suwabe said firmly, although there was a hint of sympathetic understanding in the long haired man's words towards Justin, "You stay here with the other students, where you will be safe with Lance and Clair."

"I say we all just leave right now," Akeno said as she shrugged indifferently, "So we'll most likely lose a student. Big deal. Better to lose one while saving the rest than risk a teacher to save a straggler."

"Congratulations, Akeno," Matsuda snarled, "You've just volunteered to go to the library to try to find and collect Amanda."

The unsympathetic woman looked appalled at Matsuda. "You're kidding me," Akeno said, "You're seriously sending me to go fetch that re-"

"Akeno, if anything happens to Amanda because we didn't get her during the evacuation," Matsuda barked at Akeno, "Then I will personally put you in the hospital, consequences and the legacy of your grandfather be damned!" Matsuda pointed in the direction that Justin looked like he was about to run off into earlier. "Go!" Matsuda barked, "Now!"

Akeno, too surprised and a bit frightened of Matsuda, turned around and ran off in the direction of the library, although not without scowling in bitter annoyance once she was far enough away. "If she is smart," Matsuda said to the students, "Akeno will find Amanda and bring her to the evacuation area for safety. That's were we're leading all of you kids off to right now."

Justin looked a bit surprised suddenly, then he fished a phone out of his pocket. "...I just got a text from Katsuku," Justin said, "He just returned to campus, and he's got Dawn and her friend with him!"

Lance instantly looked a lot more relieved. "...Well now, it seems that things are now looking a lot better for Blackthorn City Academy."

Dawn, Kenny, Katsuku, Chi-Chi, Godzilla, and Feraligatr crashed the front doors of the front office building open as they all rushed right on inside. Right away, they spotted eight Team Scorn grunts, commanding a combined three Raticate, two Ariados, two Golbat, and a Furret. "Godzilla, use Rock Slide!" Kenny called out.

The named Pupitar summoned a rain of rocks to fall down upon all of the Pokémon the grunts had out, taking out all of them save for the Furret who avoided the attack and one of the Raticate who barely hung on. Chi-Chi and Feraligatr rushed in to knock out the remaining Pokémon, seeing the Furret fall to Chi-Chi and the Raticate fall to Feraligatr. After the fully evolved starter Pokémon both backed off, the Team Scorn grunts sent out two Grimer, two Drowzee, two more Raticate, another Furret, and another Ariados.

"..I hope you both have flying types," Kenny muttered to Dawn and Katsuku, immediately before he called out as loud as possible, "GODZILLA, USE EARTHQUAKE!"

"Chi-Chi that's enough, fall back!" Dawn said, "Alright, Cyrus! Let's get goin'!"

"Feraligatr return!" Katsuku said, "Go Fearow!"

Dawn and Katsuku recalled their earthbound Pokémon and sent out Pokémon who were airborne. With the named Staraptor and a Fearow on his side now, Godzilla had no worries about striking his allies with his wide ranged attack that immediately shook the whole of the front office building, slamming all of the Pokémon under the command of the Team Scorn grunts with seismic waves as even the walls off to the far sides started to crack.

"Kenny, are you nuts?!" Katsuku snapped, "This is the front office building, not a proper stadium set up for Pokémon battles! Unleashing an Earthquake attack in here is gonna cause a lot of damage!"

"Team Scorn attack on Blackthorn City!" Kenny pointed out, "Beat them back now no matter what! Worry about finer details later!"

The heroes were lucky that Godzilla's attack didn't bring the roof down. And to Kenny's credit, it did knock out all enemy Pokémon aside from the Ariados. "Grr..." the Team Scorn grunt who sent the Ariados out snarled, "Ariados, use Poison Jab on that troublesome Pupitar!"

The Ariados, despite its pain, rushed forward with its right front leg raised and aimed at Godzilla as it glowed purple. Before the others could do anything, Ariados jabbed right into the named Pupitar's stomach. It didn't do much, but it did still have an impact.

"Godzilla!" Kenny called out, "You okay?!"

Godzilla, glaring somewhat wincingly at the enemy Ariados, growled in annoyance, right before he shouted in a pissed off tone, "PUPITAR!" Suddenly, Godzilla began to glow with a bright, shining white light, surprising everyone who was watching. His shape shifted and grew taller, making all of the Team Scorn grunts become apprehensive. The glowing and shifting stopped, and when it did a mighty hand reached down and grabbed Ariados by its leg it had extended.

Ariados was then pulled up until it was eye to eye with Godzilla, who was now a Tyranitar. The now Tyranitar snarled angrily at Ariados before roaring in outrage at it, scaring it into fainting before he threw the fainted Ariados at the Team Scorn grunts. Godzilla gave another angry roar, this one aimed skywards. "Hot diggity damn!" Kenny exclaimed, "Godzilla has just evolved into a Tyranitar! This is so flippin' epic!"

The Team Scorn grunts, due to a mix of being all out of Pokémon who can fight and the fact that there was a pissed off Tyranitar facing them down, all withdrew after the fainted Ariados was recalled. After those grunts were gone, Godzilla turned to face the heroes, as well as Cyrus and Fearow. The named Tyranitar relaxed visibly, then smiled and cried out a bit happily before going right at Kenny to bear hug him.

"Godzilla, you're being a bit too strong there!" Kenny cried out, making Godzilla panic a bit and let him go. Catching his breath, Kenny went on, "Affection is no problem, but with your new found power you need to learn a gentle touch when you wanna hug others." With an amused smirk, Kenny added, "But said new found power ought to be unleashed on the Team Scorn grunts that are here on school grounds, ehh?"

Katsuku smirked despite himself. "...A Pokémon like Tyranitar being unleashed on those Team Scorn idiots ought to sweep the job up more easily."

"Hopefully we won't end up causing more damage to the campus than what Team Scorn is trying to do here," Dawn said, "Tyranitar as a species are known for being not just strong but also incredibly destructive of their surrounding environment."

Smirking, Kenny said, "Fair enough. We'll try to contain the raw destructive cringe that Godzilla can now bring to the table. It wouldn't make sense if we wreck the school to save it."

"Then you explain to Principal Yasuhiro why the front office building suffered seismic damage," Katsuku said dryly as the heroes ran out of the front office building into the main courtyard of the academy, with Cyrus, Godzilla, and Fearow following along behind them.

Although Blackthorn City Academy saw the majority of Team Scorn's efforts, there was still some Team Scorn effort spread out over the rest of Blackthorn City as a whole. One such example was the cafe where former Blackthorn City Academy student Ayane was working. A pair of female Team Scorn grunts came in during their organization's attack on Blackthorn City, feeling in the mood for coffees from a trendy cafe like the one Ayane was at right now.

Ayane, along with a female co-worker of hers, were actually clocked out for the day and were about to leave when the Team Scorn grunts came in. Ayane and her co-worker were forced to fight, but Ayane's Jigglypuff and the co-worker's Snubble were soon defeated by the Spinarak and Grimer that the Team Scorn grunts sent out.

"Hey, we only wanted some drinks from here," the first female grunt said, "There was no need for violence, ya know!"

"You two ladies are clearly criminals," the co-worker said, "And you look like those Team Scorn persons I've been seeing on the news as of late!"

Shrugging, the second grunt said, "Well, that makes sense since we ARE members of Team Scorn. But seriously, we only wanted to get some coffees here."

"...And all of the money in the registers," the first grunt added.

"...We'll also be taking your Pokémon as well," the second grunt went on, "We gotta make some manner of profit out of this att-"

"Axantor, use Stone Axe!"

The two female Team Scorn grunts were cut off when they heard a guy shout out suddenly. Then, a large tannish bug Pokémon with large stone axe hands rushed in and swung said axe hands at Grimer and Spinarak, defeating both of them. Everyone turned to look at who had suddenly come in to the rescue of Ayane and her co-worker, and as such they spotted Ideku standing there. The large bug Pokémon he commanded jumped back and landed in front of him, its back to him.

Ideku turned to Ayane and her co-worker. "You ladies ought to take cover," Ideku said, "I'm going to deal with these villains!"

"Who the hell are you?" the first female grunt snapped at Ideku, "Some trainer hoping to play hero by standing up to Team Scorn?! You're out of your league!" Looking at the Pokémon Ideku called Axantor, the first female grunt went on, "Although I will admit, that there a Pokémon that I've never seen before."

"Axantor is a Kleavor," Ideku explained, "An evolved form of Scyther from the Hisuian period."

The co-worker went a bit wide eyed with realization. "...Hey, I've heard about that!" Pointing at Ideku, the co-worker went on, "It made the news a while ago, about how a boy sent off as a Pokémon trainer by Professor Elm rediscovered the lost method of evolving Scyther into Kleavor, which had brought the species back out of extinction. You're Ideku Badorigo!"

Ayane looked surprised suddenly; when she had spoken to her former classmate Katsuku Badorigo earlier when he was at the cafe with Sinnoh champion Dawn Berlitz and Dawn's friend Kenny, they had mentioned Katsuku's brother who until then Ayane didn't know existed. Said brother was named Ideku, and Katsuku said off-handedly that Ayane would have liked him, implying that he had meant she'd be interested in being with Ideku romantically.

Looking at Ideku where he stood with his named Kleavor in front of him, Ayane... couldn't help but agree with the notion. Ideku certainly did look visually appealing to her, and she could tell he was an honest, good natured person. There's also the fact that he had literally just rescued her from being harassed and robbed by a pair of criminals.

Speaking of said criminals, the two Team Scorn grunts who were there sent out another Pokémon each, a Golbat and a Raticate. All Ideku did was send out his Houndoom to back up the Kleavor. "Axantor, Hundemon," Ideku said, "We got a fight on our hands here."

As Ideku's Pokémon cried out, showing that they were ready to fight, Ayane and her co-worker ran to take cover behind the counter. Given the battle that was going on, there was no way that they'd be able to flee the coffee shop, so their only option was to hide and let their hero finish the Team Scorn grunts off before they can even try to get out of there. They did, however, peek out from behind the counter to watch as Ideku battled the Team Scorn grunts.

Ayane, as she watched, began to blush as she watched Ideku save her.

Over in the library located in Blackthorn City Academy, Amanda, who had her special headphones down around her neck, was showing two people around and helping them find books that the girl in the pair wanted. Amanda spends a lot of her free time in the library, given that it's quiet and there's not too many surprises here to startle her. And she liked it that these people asked her for help, help she was glad to give as she liked it when people gave her a chance and depended on her.

And Amanda knew the library inside and out due to all the time she spent there, so she knew where exactly to go to find what all books the girl in the pair wanted to get. Both the boy and the girl in the pair were considerate and friendly towards Amanda, and she was even surprised when the boy of the pair not only identified Amanda's headphones as noise canceling headphones, but after he had asked her and Amanda confirmed that she is autistic, the boy said that the girl who is his younger sister is autistic as well. Small world.

Amanda was happy to meet two friendly people who showed nothing but consideration, kindness, and thanks towards her, and she was delighted to meet someone who like her has autism. There was, however, one thing about the pair who encountered her in the library that concerned Amanda. "Umm, excuse me," Amanda began in a mildly curious and concerned tone as she spoke to the boy of the pair. Pointing at the katana that was on the boy's left side, Amanda asked, "Why do you have a katana with you? I don't think weapons are allowed on school grounds."

"...For protection," Team Scorn Admin Brother said as he turned his left side away from Amanda, "It's also an heirloom left behind by my late grandfather, so I can't afford to let it out of my sight if I can help it."

"Well just don't whip it out in the library," Amanda said, "I don't want any of the books here getting damaged."

Brother smiled, in understanding and amusement, as he nodded in agreement. "Fair enough. Oh, Akari, did you find all the books you wanted?" Brother's Admin's Assistant Akari, who was holding a stack of a dozen or so books, nodded once in the affirmative. "Good," Brother replied. Turning back to face Amanda, Brother went on, "Well now, I think my sister here and I will-"

"Amanda, you stupid idiot!" a harsh woman's voice snapped, "Get the hell away from those people! They are criminals!" Amanda and Akari both flinched out of surprised fright when they and Brother heard that woman's voice snap out. Brother turned to look in the direction the woman's voice came from, and as such spotted Akeno.

Brother's gaze furrowed as he regarded Akeno. "...She was only helping with finding books here that my sister wanted," Brother said, already not sounding entirely amused with Akeno, "There is no need to snap at her. And calling her stupid and an idiot is very much uncalled for."

Akeno threw her right hand from her left side to her right in a wide gesture. "I have every damn excuse to call out that brain-dead moron! She decided to straggle behind during an attack by you Team Scorn villains on the academy, and now she's straight up helping you out! I'll see her expelled from Blackthorn City Academy for this!"

"We're being attacked by Team Scorn?" Amanda said to the teacher, "When did that happen?"

"You really don't know that the school is under attack by Team Scorn?!" Akeno snapped at Amanda, making her flinch again, "And you also don't know that the two people next to you are members of Team Scorn?!" Her expression now an angry snarl, Akeno barked, "Are you really that damn dumb, you fucking retard?!"

"HEY!" Brother immediately snapped, "There is no need to use language like that!" Gesturing to where Amanda stood with Akari while keeping his eyes on Akeno, Brother said with a firm, angry look on his face, "Amanda had no idea of where me and Akari's allegiance laid before now! Also, the library here is sound-proofed, so of course Amanda would have no idea of what's going on outside of the library! Cut her some slack!"

"Excuse you!" Akeno snapped back at Brother, making Amanda and Akari flinch out of fright again, "Who are you to tell me how to treat the students here at Blackthorn City Academy?"

Glaring at Akeno, Brother scolded, "Well first off, using the 'R' word to refer to someone with autism is wholly inexcusable. More sympathy and understanding has to be shown to-"

"That girl is a damn retard!" Akeno snarled, "Pure and simple! She's nothing but a damn burden on this proud school, wasting time, energy, money, and resources that should be spent on students who, unlike her, are actually normal! That retard has no right to attend a school as prestigious as Blackthorn City Academy! Hell, she and other retards like her would be doing the world at large a huge favor by not existing at all!"

Brother, his eyes wide with shock, was stunned into silence. After a few seconds, he said to Akeno in an eerily calm voice, "...Is that so." He relaxed his glare, then turned to look at Akari and Amanda. "...Girls, I want the both of you to close your eyes and not open them until I say so," Brother said. After both Akari and Amanda complied, Brother turned back to face Akeno as he said, "I don't think neither of you are going to wanna see what I'm about to do."

"Oh, this is rich!" Akeno laughed, sounding a bit like a haughty noblewoman, "Are you planning to challenge me to a Pokémon battle here in the library? And you don't want that idiot girl and your companion there to see it? Want to spare them the spectacle of me soundly defeating you? I'll have you know that among the Blackthorn City Academy staff, I'm among-"

"Are your eyes still closed, girls?" Brother called out, then after both Akari and Amanda replied in the affirmative, Brother said, "Good! Make sure you keep them that way!"

To Akeno's surprise, Brother suddenly began charging at her at a full speed sprint, his left hand on the scabbard of his katana near the hand guard, and his right hand on the hilt. Brother, with a look of pure infuriation on his face, got within a meter of Akeno before, in one swift motion, he drew his katana out and swung the blade right at Akeno's neck.

...

A few moments later, Brother led both Akari and Amanda out of the Blackthorn City Academy library. Both autistic girls still had their eyes closed, and Akari was still carrying all twelve or so of the books she got. Brother closed the door to the library before saying, "Okay, you girls can both open your eyes now." With Amanda looking at him, Brother said, "If I were you, I wouldn't go back into the library for a while."

"What Ms. Akeno said," Amanda began, "About you and your sister here both being criminals and members of Team Scorn. Is that true?"

Brother, as well as Akari, both nodded in confirmation. "...We are, yes," Brother replied.

"...And yet neither of you were mean to me," Amanda went on, "You guys showed me nothing but kindness, and you even stood up for me when Ms. Akeno was being mean to me. One of the girls in my boyfriend Justin's homeroom class stood up to Ms. Akeno for me, and Ms. Akeno got said girl expelled from school for it."

Brother inhaled and exhaled through his nose. "...Well," Brother said, "Let's just say that woman who I hesitate to refer to as an educator will never abuse students ever again." As Brother spoke to Amanda, a group of four Team Scorn members, including Captain Quaid and his assistant Tawny, rounded the corner and came upon Brother and the two girls.

"Admin Brother, sir!" Quaid called out, "I just got word that a trio of trainers just got onto Blackthorn City Academy grounds! One is a student who was off campus at the time that we had launched our attack, and the other two are rumored to be Sinnoh champion Dawn Berlitz and her companion Kenny Harris!"

Brother's eyes widened a bit out of alarm. "...She's the girl who defeated Cynthia and took her title for herself." Shaking his head, Brother asked, "How much damage has been caused to the school so far?"

"I estimate that approximately forty-five percent of Blackthorn City Academy has been ravaged," Quaid said, "The person presumed to be Kenny Harris had done some of the damage himself when he had a Pokémon unleash an Earthquake attack inside of the front office building!"

Gesturing to Amanda, Tawny said, "Yo, who's this girl? A hostage we're taking?"

"Miss Amanda here will come with us," Brother said, "But she will be let go to the first persons at Blackthorn City Academy who try to collect her from us. Also, do not go into the library here." The admin in charge of Team Scorn's Katana Sector then had everyone, including Amanda, follow him out of that hallway. Team Scorn had an attack to finish carrying out, and Brother had Amanda to find someone of the school to turn her over to.

END, CHAPTER EIGHTY-SEVEN

Author's notes;

This chapter sees Team Scorn's attack on Blackthorn City as a whole continue. Dawn, Kenny, and Katsuku make it back to the school to confront Team Scorn there and hopefully comfront the officers leading the attack, and Kenny sees Godzilla evolve into a Tyranitar in the process. Over at the cafe where former Blackthorn City Academy student Ayane works, she and a co-worker are saved from a pair of Team Scorn grunts who came in to harass them when Ideku shows up, aiming to clear up Team Scorn members who aren't at the school.

And Brother, while at the academy's library with Akari and Amanda, loses his temper with Akeno who showed up. The attack Team Scorn is carrying out will continue into the next chapter, so keep your eyes peeled for it.
