Episode 3: The Viridian Forest
After taking their leave of Viridian City, Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel have started to make their way to Pewter City. In order to do that, first, they must venture through the Viridian Forest.
Kairi was holding her Pokédex closely.
"Hard to believe I'm now a Pokémon Trainer. I hope I get to catch some really adorable Pokémon, Sora," Kairi said.
"Me too, Kairi. By the way, when I let out my Pidgey and Rattata, can you tell if they were girls or boys?" Sora asked.
"Yes. Pidgey and Rattata are both boys. Rattata is the easiest because of the whiskers," Kairi said.
"Cool," Sora said.
"Sora, I would like to learn how to catch a Pokémon to catch," Kairi said.
"Well, Pidgey was just dumb luck; on the second try, but I think I can show you the ropes even when I'm just starting out," Sora said. He heard the sound of flapping. They turned to see a Spearow. "And it looks like class is in session." Kairi looked at him confused.
"Sora?" Kairi asked.
"Test out your Pokédex," Sora said. Kairi points her Pokédex at Spearow.
Spearow, the Tiny Bird Pokémon
Type: Normal/Flying
Spearow has a very loud cry that can be heard over half a mile away. If its high, keening cry is heard echoing all around, it is a sign that they are warning each other of danger.
"How informative," Kairi said.
"Okay, the key to catching a wild Pokémon is to weaken it in battle before catching it," Sora said. He took out a Pokéball. "You gotta choose the right Pokémon for the job." He threw it. "Go! Pidgey!" His Pokéball opened and his Pidgey came out to battle. Spearow turned and saw Pidgey fly at it. "Tackle!" Pidgey flew right at Spearow, landing a Tackle. Spearow then came and pecked at Pidgey.
"That was Peck!" Kairi said.
"Eevee!" Angel added.
"Okay, Pidgey! Use Air Cutter!" Sora ordered. Pidgey flapped his wings and fired Air Cutter. Spearow is struck by the air attack. "Okay, use Tackle!" Pidgey flew right at Spearow, landing a hit. Spearow pecked Pidgey again. "Tackle, one more time!" Pidgey lands a Tackle on Spearow. "Okay, Spearow looks soft enough, so time for the moment of truth!" Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it. It struck Spearow and it flows inside. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Sora picked up the Pokéball and held it. "And that's how it's done!"
"Wow, that was amazing!" Kairi said with awe.
"Eevee, vee!" Angel added.
"But they might stay in for long, but you shouldn't let it get you down. Now, it's your turn," Sora said.
"Okay," Kairi said. She looked around for a Pokémon to catch. Her search came to an end when she spotted a Pokémon body, beady red eyes, a small mouth, and ovoid feet. Five large, green leaves sprout from its head. She remembered her Pokédex and pointed it at the Pokémon.
Oddish, the Weed Pokémon
Type: Grass/Poison
Oddish buries its sensitive body in the ground during the day to avoid the sun and fool predators. If its leaves are pulled in this state, it will respond by shrieking horribly. It starts to move when its leaves begin absorbing moonlight, which it uses to grow.
"Must have woken up because she's thirsty," Kairi said. "But she's really cute." She turned to Angel. "Okay, Angel. This is your first battle. You ready?"
"Eevee," Angel nodded.
"Go for it!" Kairi said. Angel stood before Oddish. The Weed Pokémon turned and saw her. "Okay, Angel! Use Tackle!" Angel ran towards Oddish. Oddish shrieks and dodges her. Angel tumbles, but she gets back up. "Tackle again!" Angel ran and lands a hit on Oddish. She fell backwards, and she got back up and releases two red beams from the leaves on the side of her body at Angel. When it hits her, the Angel's body glows red and Oddish absorbs her energy. Oddish heals from her previous damage. "That was Absorb! Okay, Angel! Use Tackle again!" Angel lands a hit. Use Sand-Attack!" Angel whips up sand and it struck Oddish. "Tackle!" Angel ran and lands a hit onto Oddish. It scores a critical hit. Kairi took out a Pokéball and threw it. Oddish flows inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. "Wow, I caught my first Pokémon!"
"Congratulations, Kairi," Sora said. "You should feel proud."
"It's because I had such a great teacher," Kairi said. Sora smiled. Pikachu and praised Angel for her battling skills. Angel also blushed.
"Shall we keep going?" Sora asked.
"Okay," Kairi said. Just when they were taking off, they saw a small, round, pink Pokémon. It has short limbs and a swirl on its forehead. Its large eyes are red and have pupils. It also has a rounded tuft of fur on its head. She pointed her Pokédex at the little Pokémon.
Igglybuff, the Balloon Pokémon
Type: Normal/Fairy
Instead of walking with its short legs, it moves around by bouncing on its soft, tender body.
"Igglybuff. Such a cutie!" Kairi said with heart-shaped pupils. She turned to Angel. "Wanna keep going?"
"Vee," Angel nodded.
"Go get her," Kairi said. Angel ran towards Igglybuff, ready to battle. "Use Tackle!" Angel ran and rams into Igglybuff. Igglybuff came and hits Angel with her hand. "Tackle!" Angel tackled into Igglybuff again. "Tackle, one more time!" Angel lands another Tackle. Kairi took out a Pokéball and threw it. Igglybuff flows inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. "And I got Igglybuff!"
"Yeah, two in a row! You're on fire!" Sora said.
"Yeah! I have three cute Pokémon now, and it's thanks to you!" Kairi said. She began to hug him. This made Sora blush. She was actually hugging him. He felt how soft she is, and he liked it. Kairi realized she hugged him. "I'm sorry, Sora. I got too excited."
"It's okay, Kairi," Sora said. He kept on blushing. "Man, she's so cute."
"We should keep going. Viridian Forest is just ahead, isn't it?" Kairi pointed out.
"You're right. We should keep going," Sora said. They entered Viridian Forest and they looked around. "So, this is Viridian Forest. Ever been in here before?"
"Just on camping trips with my dad," Kairi said. "You?"
"First time. You know your way around this place?" Sora asked.
"Not really. I only came here once, and that's it," Kairi said. "But I would like to look around. How about you?"
"I sure would, Kairi. We might find some Pokémon to catch while we're in here," Sora said. With that said, they kept their eyes open for any Pokémon. They stopped when Sora spotted a a worm-like Pokémon that is mainly green in color with a tan underside. Just below its head are four, tiny legs. On top of its head is a red, "y-shaped" antenna. "A Caterpie!" Sora took out his Pokédex and scanned it.
Caterpie, the Worm Pokémon
Type: Bug
Caterpie has a voracious appetite. It can devour leaves bigger than its body right before your eyes. From its antenna, this Pokémon releases a terrifically strong odor.
"I hate to find out what that odor smells like," Sora said. He took out a Pokéball. "Go! Spearow!" He threw it and Spearow emerged from inside. "Okay, Spearow! Use Peck!" Spearow flew at Caterpie and pecked at Caterpie. "Keep using Peck!" Spearow pecked at Caterpie. He saw Caterpie was weak enough and he threw a Pokéball at Caterpie. The Worm Pokémon flows inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. "And I got myself a Caterpie." Spearow flew back to Sora and perched on his shoulder.
"Lucky you, Sora," Kairi said. Sora turned to Kairi. "You got such a cute Pokémon."
"You think Caterpie is cute?" Sora asked.
"Of course. You remember I helped a Caterpie before, right?" Kairi pointed out. Sora saw she had a point. "Besides, ever since I was little, I always liked Caterpie. I like the way they walk, and the cute little sound they make. Just hearing it is just enough to give me the chills!" Sora chuckled, seeing how she's cute when she gets excited. Rustling is heard. Sora turned to see is a small, insect-like Pokémon appearing as a brown caterpillar with large stingers on both its rear and head. Across its underside are small, pink nubs which it uses to move. On its head, it has two beady, black eyes above a large, pink nose.
"A Weedle," Sora said, taking out his Pokédex.
Weedle, the Hairy Bug Pokémon
Type: Bug/Poison
Weedle has an extremely acute sense of smell. It is capable of distinguishing its favorite kinds of leaves from those it dislikes just by sniffing with its big red proboscis nose.
"The nose knows," Sora said, putting his Pokédex away. "Spearow battled enough, so it's Pidgey's turn." He took out Pidgey's Pokéball and threw it. Pidgey came out to battle. "Use Air Cutter!" Pidgey fired Air Cutter. Weedle is struck by the move, but unlike Caterpie, Weedle fought back by shoots multiple darts of purple poison from its stinger from its head. "Watch out for that Poison Sting!" Pidgey manages to dodge by flying upwards. "Use Sand-Attack!" Pidgey kicks up a sandstorm and covers Weedle in it. Pidgey flaps his wings at a high speed to create a gust of wind from them. Weedle is caught in the wind and weakened enough. Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it. Weedle flows inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. "And Weedle makes 6!" Pidgey perched on his shoulder. "Good work, Pidgey." He calls Pidgey back inside. "Any luck, Kairi?"
"Can't say that I have any," Kairi said. "But we could have a stroll in the woods, and see the sights." Sora smiled.
"Sure," Sora said. Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel had a stroll through the forest. They walked around for hours.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket are traveling in a cardboard vehicle. They've searching for Sora and Pikachu the whole time they've in Viridian Forest. Meowth is sitting on top while they're moving.
"I'm tired," James complained.
"Stop whining, James!" Jessie snapped at him.
"But Jessie, why are we dragging this stupid tank around?" James asked.
"It's to protect us from Beedrill," Jessie told him. "The stings from Beedrill are really painful. And also, they're poisonous."
"Hey down there! Quit chattering!" Meowth called to them. "Get a move on!"
"What are you doing up there, anyway?" Jessie asked.
"Why don't you come down here and help us out?" James also asked.
"I can't for two reasons," Meowth told the two humans. "One: I'm not tall enough. And two: someone should keep a lookout!"
"Well lookout for this!" Both Jessie and James moved the tank making Meowth fall off. Meowth starts chasing after them.
"Hey, wait a second! Don't leave without me! What if those Beedrill show up?!" Meowth shouted. "Make one little comment, and suddenly, you get dumped off like trash."
Later that night, Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel made a stop to rest. Sora and Kairi had let out, Pidgey, Rattata, Spearow, Caterpie, Weedle, Oddish, and Igglybuff just so they would eat the apples Sora and Kairi had picked earlier.
"Eat up, guys," Sora said.
The Pokémon began to eat the apples provided to them. They didn't waste any time wolfing them down; Caterpie and Weedle especially.
"They have such healthy appetites," Kairi said.
"Well, they're entitled to one since they had a busy day," Sora said. Kairi went to her backpack and pulled out a couple of sandwiches.
"Not exactly a hearty dinner, but it's better than nothing," Kairi said.
"Anything you've got is fine," Sora said, taking one of the sandwich. He unwrapped the plastic and took a bite.
"Sora, I would like to know. What was your dad like? I mean, from how your mom told you," Kairi said. Sora looked at her. "I'm sorry if I'm being insensitive, but I would like to know."
"My dad was a great guy, from what my mom said. She would tell me that he made her laugh, and smile. I remember she told us about that one time, he went through a pack of Houndour just to find materials to make her a present for her birthday," Sora said.
"He must be a romantic person," Kairi said.
"From what I heard, you're right. She loved him more than anything. Even after he died, she stayed loyal to him," Sora said.
"You mean, your mom never thought of remarrying?" Kairi asked.
"She never wanted anyone else. My dad was one-of-a-kind. Nobody would make her smile like he could," Sora said. Kairi smiled.
"I would like to meet him if he was alive," Kairi said.
"Yeah," Sora said. He looked up to the sky.
"Also, how well do you know that Daisy girl and Professor Oak?" Kairi asked. "The reason I'm asking that is because I got a feeling of how close you seem. It made it look like you're family."
"Professor Oak's family have been very good to us for a long time; my mom especially. Professor Oak loved my mom like she was his own daughter. He's been like a grandpa to me. Also, Daisy babysat me and Karen when we were little," Sora said.
"I can believe that. She seems nice enough," Kairi said.
"Yeah. I can't say the same for her brother, Gary," Sora said.
"Who's Gary?" Kairi asked.
"Just someone who I knew. And that someone is Professor Oak's grandson, but you got that figured out. He started out on his journey the same as two other kids I knew since I was little. There's a guy named Ash, and a girl named Leaf. Gary always gave me a hard time, but Ash and Leaf were cool with me," Sora said.
"They must be great friends," Kairi said.
"Oh, they are. Also, Ash and Leaf will like you. I don't know about Gary, though," Sora said.
"What do you mean?" Kairi asked.
"You would have to meet him to know what I mean, Kairi," Sora said. "And hopefully, it's not going to be for a while." This made Kairi smile. "But there was one thing I wanted to ask you, but I didn't get the chance to."
"What?" Kairi asked.
"Are you sure your mom and dad are okay with you being out here with me?" Sora asked.
"I'm sure. And I don't regret my decision one bit. Also, I know I can feel safe with you around," Kairi said. Sora smiled again.
"Kairi," Sora said. Kairi looked into his eyes. "Just so you know, I promise to protect you as best as I can."
"Sora, I don't want you to put yourself in harm's way because of me," Kairi said.
"I made up my mind same as you, Kairi," Sora said. "You did say you know you can feel safe with me, didn't you?"
"Yes, I did say that," Kairi said. "I do appreciate it, Sora. And I am grateful."
The two of them looked at each other for a while, unaware of the Pokémon looking them.
"They look really cute together, don't they?" - Angel subtitle.
"Yeah, they do." - Pikachu subtitle.
"Pikachu, I wanted to say something to you. I wanted to say, thank you for fending off those awful people last night." - Angel said.
"Why are you thanking me now?" - Pikachu subtitle.
"I didn't know how at the time, because I'm really shy. I was amazed by how you electrocuted them, and when you shocked those awful Spearow and those Heartless." - Angel said. This caught the attention of Spearow.
"What do you mean 'Heartless'?" - Spearow subtitle.
"The Heartless are those awful monsters that we saw on our way to Viridian City." - Angel subtitle.
"Monsters? You mean monsters with yellow eyes?" - Caterpie subtitle. Pikachu and Angel looked at the Worm Pokémon with shocked expressions.
"You saw them?" - Pikachu subtitle.
"Yes, just this morning. I didn't think they would bother me unless I bothered them. They just appeared from the shadows, and then disappeared the same way as they appeared." - Caterpie subtitle.
"I wasn't going to say anything, but I saw them, too. They chased after a human, and then the human disappeared in shadows, and a heart floated out and then disappeared in the shadows. The monster also vanished. I didn't even know what they were until you brought them up." - Weedle subtitle.
"This is scary." - Igglybuff subtitle.
"You've said it. I'm shaking so hard, my leaves are gonna fall off." - Oddish subtitle.
"Rattata and I were inside, and we don't know that much." - Pidgey subtitle.
"Pikachu and Angel are the Pokémon to turn to for information." - Rattata subtitle.
"You saw them before. How did you get away from them?" - Spearow subtitle.
"Sora had this sword. It's shaped like a key. He used it to kill some of them. And they were ganging up on him along with some other Spearow, I ran and have them a shock. The Spearow must have flown off after that, but the monsters just went poof." - Pikachu subtitle.
"I got ya." - Spearow subtitle.
A yawn is heard. They turned to see Sora stretching his arms.
"Time for bed. We should keep going first thing in the morning," Sora said.
"I'm getting rather sleepy myself," Kairi said.
Sora and Kairi unrolled their sleeping bags and went in. Pikachu, Pidgey, Rattata, Spearow, Caterpie, and Weedle went up to Sora as Angel, Oddish, and Igglybuff went to Kairi. They all fell right to sleep. The sounds of crickets chirping fills the air as the moon shines brightly. Sora fell right to sleep and started snoring. Kairi woke up, startled, and she saw it was only Sora. Kairi looked at Sora and she smiled. She found to be cute when he's asleep. The same for the Pokémon.
Elsewhere, a man is running through the woods and he tripped. Darkness swirls around him as a heart floats from his body and straight into a dark void. The heart disappeared. Suddenly, a Heartless appearing as a noble knight-type warrior appeared. Its muscular form is clad in a bluish-black body suit bearing a symbol that is a fleur-de-lis at its base. It is typically black with a red outline and spiked "X" crossing through the heart in the symbol. And it has purple inverted emblems trimmed in gold on the knees.
It wore black, silver trimmed shoes that end in spiral toes, silver wristbands, and a silver knight's helm decorated with two angular, eye-like spirals on the front and a yellow stripe at the base of the curled silver plume. It also has fierce blue and red-tipped claws, and their shadowed faces with bright yellow eyes and toothy maw. The Heartless vanishes the way it appeared.
Just then, several more of the same Heartless appeared, along with the black Heartless Sora had faced. The first Heartless Sora had fought are Shadows and these new Heartless are Soldiers. Just then, a new Shadow is born from the darkness and joins the Heartless.
The next morning, Kairi woke up and gave a light yawn. She looked over to Sora and saw he was still asleep. She remembered an old trick her mom did to her dad when they were dating. She shushed her Pokémon and tiptoed to Sora and she stood above his head. Sora then woke up and saw Kairi staring back at him.
"WHOA!" Sora exclaimed in shock, waking up Pikachu, Pidgey, Rattata, Spearow, Caterpie, and Weedle. He looked right at Kairi and she giggled. "Gimmie a break, Kairi."
"Sorry for waking you up like that. I just couldn't resist," Kairi said. Sora blushed, because he was happy Kairi's face was the first thing she saw.
"I bet you couldn't," Sora said. Rustling in the bushes is heard. They turned to see something move from the grass. It turns out to be rodent-like Pokémon, similar to Pikachu. Unlike Pikachu, which both have yellow fur, it has orange fur with two strips of brown fur on its back. It has long ears and feet, but has little stubby arms with no noticeable fingers. It also has yellow electrical sacs on its cheeks, and a plump white belly, the tips of its arms and toes are brown. The soles of its feet are tan-colored and the paw pads on the undersides are yellowish orange. It also have a long, thin, black tail that ends in a large lightning bolt shape. "Is that-?" Sora took out his Pokédex and scanned it.
Raichu, the Mouse Pokémon
The evolved form of Pikachu
Type: Electric
Its electric charges can reach even 100,000 volts. Careless contact can cause even a Copperajah to faint.
"Thought so. That's what Pikachu can evolve into," Sora said.
"Pika," Pikachu said.
Raichu then charged at the kids and Pokémon. They ducked out of the way.
"Hey, cut that out!" Sora yelled.
"Rai," Raichu said. Raichu unleashed a much more powerful Electric-type move than Thunder Shock. Sora ducked.
"Whoa! Thunderbolt!" Sora said.
"Pika!" Pikachu said.
"I'm okay, Pikachu. Use Thunder Shock!" Sora ordered. Pikachu nods and unleashed Thunder Shock, but it doesn't do much damage. Raichu unleashed Thunderbolt again, shocking Pikachu and the other Pokémon. They fell to the ground, beaten before they could fight back. "Pikachu!" Kairi stepped in.
"I'll take it from here, Sora," Kairi said. She turned to her three Pokémon. "You ready, ladies?" Angel, Oddish, and Igglybuff nodded. "Then, let's go get him! Oddish! Use Acid!" Oddish releases a stream of violet acid from her mouth at Raichu. Raichu manages to dodge. "Igglybuff! Use Pound!" Igglybuff ran towards Raichu to land a hit, but Raichu pulled his fist back. Raichu's fists and body become outlined by yellow electricity. Raichu punched Igglybuff, sending her back. "That was Thunder Punch!" Raichu grabbed Oddish and Igglybuff and then jumps into the air and swings his body before throwing his two opponents at the ground. Both Oddish and Igglybuff were taken down. "Igglybuff, Oddish!" Angel looked at Raichu, and he looked right back at her.
"You think you can handle me, little girl? You saw what I did to your friends, and I'll do the same to you." - Raichu subtitle.
"I won't let you get away with that, you bully!" - Angel subtitle. Raichu laughed.
"Try it, sweetheart! Just get ready to cry after I whoop you!" - Raichu subtitle. Raichu prepared another punch, but Angel dodged and tackled into Raichu.
"Good one, Angel!" Kairi praised. Raichu was ticked. Raichu's body becomes outlined in a light blue aura and it charges at the Eevee with incredible speed. He lands a hit onto Angel. "Use Sand-Attack!" Angel kicked up sand and it struck Raichu. Angel's body becomes outlined in a light blue aura and it charges at the Mouse Pokémon with incredible speed. "Angel, you just learned Quick Attack!"
"Eevee!" Angel said.
Raichu swings around and misses with his electrical punches.
"Okay, use one more Tackle!" Kairi ordered. Angel tackled into Raichu. The force of the attack was able to bring Raichu down. Kairi then took out a Pokéball and threw it. Raichu flows inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. "And I have myself a Raichu!"
"Eevee, vee!" Angel cheered.
"Wow, that was awesome, Kairi," Sora said, walking up to her. "You just caught your first Electric-type, and fully evolved, too."
"I know, it's amazing!" Kairi said.
"Now, what are we gonna do about healing our Pokémon? They're pre beat from that brawl with Raichu," Sora pointed out.
"Oh, I think I know what to do, Sora. Come with me," Kairi said. Sora followed Kairi to a blue fruit with dark blue spots. "And here we are."
"Wow, Oran Berries. How did you know where to find these?" Sora asked.
"My dad taught me. He's quite skilled when it comes to nature. He told me that you can find berries in any forest, depending on what you're looking for. So, those Oran Berries would help heal our Pokémon when they eat them," Kairi said.
"Is that all? I can climb up and grab some," Sora said. He started to climb up the tree and plucked as many as he could before he began to lose his balance. He fell and lands in the shrubs beneath him. Kairi ran towards Sora.
"Are you okay?" Kairi asked.
"I'm fine. My mom would have killed me if she caught me climbing up," Sora said, chuckling. Kairi shook her head and let out her Pokémon along with Sora's. They fed their Pokémon the Oran Berries, healing them of their previous injuries. "Feel better, guys?"
"Pika," Pikachu said.
"Sora, have you climbed a tree before? You looked like a natural," Kairi said.
"Yeah, I did. My mom never liked me climbing up trees, because she always said I'd get hurt. She would be right, because I would end up falling off one, and breaking an arm or leg, or if I get stuck," Sora said. "Also, I end up with holes in my clothes, which is the another reason she disliked me climbing up. One time, I end up with a hole in my shirt, so big, it needed an Onix to squeeze on in. And she chewed me out for ripping up my clothes. By accident of course. So, I stopped with the tree climbing when I got older and smarter. Plus side, I didn't get any rips this time." Sora checked his clothes.
"And you didn't end up with broken bones either, but you could have," Kairi said. Sora chuckled nervously. Just then, sinister laughter is heard. Sora and Kairi turned to the direction of the laugh.
"We meet again," a familiar male voice said.
"Oh no," Sora moaned. "I recognize those voices."
Much to the dismay of Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel, it was once again Team Rocket.
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all peoples within our nation!"
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Jessie!"
"James!"
Sora groaned as he rolled his eyes. "Oh brother," Sora said.
"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now, or prepare to fight!"
"Meowth!" That's right!"
Three smoke bombs explodes in the background with the smoke being orchid, green, and yellow.
"What you guys want now?" Sora asked not interested. "Don't tell me it's my lunch money or something."
"We don't want your lunch money," Jessie sneered. "We want your Pokémon!"
"Hand over that Pikachu," James said with him and Jessie pointing at Pikachu.
"No way!" Sora said definitely. "This is my Pikachu! If you one, then go find your own!"
"We have our sights on that Pikachu," Jessie said.
"So, we're here to take that Pikachu from you," James said.
"Seriously? I don't even know you three, and you wanna take my Pikachu from me? Why?" Sora asked.
"Why? Because we're bad guys, that's why," James said.
"And we do what bad guys do best!" Jessie said.
"Hey, are ya gonna talk, or are we gonna swipe Pikachu?" Meowth asked.
"We're going to do that!" Jessie said, taking out a Pokéball.
"And that's what we're gonna do!" James said.
"Go! Ekans!" Jessie called out.
"Go! Koffing!" James added.
The Pokéballs opens and Ekans and Koffing emerge from inside.
"Ekansssss," Ekans hissed.
"Koffing," Koffing said.
"Koffing! Use Sludge on Pikachu!" James ordered. Koffing fires large balls of sludge from its mouth at Pikachu, hitting him in the face.
"Hey, that's plain dirty!" Sora barked.
"That's how we play, you spiky-haired punk," Jessie said.
"I can bet that you don't even wash your hands after using the bathroom," Sora joked.
"We may be the bad guys, it doesn't mean we don't care about personal hygiene!" James hissed at him. Sora turned to Spearow.
"Okay, Spearow, you're up!" Sora said.
"I'm with you, Sora!" Kairi said, stepping beside him. "And I'm going with Oddish!" The Weed Pokémon stepped in as well. "We might as well make this a double battle." Sora knew this was going to be his very first battle, but he never thought it would be with his crush. Kairi smiled and nodded. Sora nods back.
"Kairi, you got the first move!" Sora said.
"With pleasure! Oddish! Use Acid!" Kairi ordered.
"Spearow! Use Peck!" Sora ordered.
Oddish fired Acid as Spearow flew in with Peck.
"Koffing! Use Tackle on Spearow!" James ordered.
"Ekans! Use Wrap on Oddish!" Jessie ordered.
Koffing tackled into Spearow as Ekans wrapped its body around Oddish.
"Oddish! Use Sweet Scent!" Kairi ordered. Oddish releases a pink powder from her leaves. Ekans took a whiff and smiles warmly, loosening its grip on Oddish. "Use Absorb!" Oddish began to sap into Ekans's energy, healing herself. It does little damage.
"Spearow! Peck on Ekans!" Sora ordered. Spearow flew at the snake Pokémon to peck.
"Ekans! Use Bite!" Jessie ordered. Ekans lands a bite onto Spearow.
"Koffing! Tackle on Oddish!" James ordered. Koffing tackled right into the Weed Pokémon. Both Pokémon were being brought down hard.
"It looks like it's all over," Jessie said.
Sora growled. Caterpie and Weedle jumped in front of Spearow and Oddish.
"Caterpie, Weedle, what are you doing?!" Sora shouted. Caterpie and Weedle shoots a stream of white thread from their mouths at the Team Rocket Pokémon. They are completely wrapped up with string. "What I had in mind, but I'll take it!"
"Me too!" Kairi said.
"Okay, Caterpie! Use Tackle!" Sora ordered. Caterpie ran and lands a hit on Koffing, sending it right up to Ekans. Both were taken out. Jessie and James gasped.
"Okay, time to sharpen my claws on you little grubs!" Meowth said. Weedle fired Poison Sting, making Meowth dance; they were aimed at his feet.
"String Shot!" Sora ordered. Caterpie and Weedle wrapped Meowth up into a big ball of silk, leaving his head on top. The same thing with Jessie and James. "Okay, Pidgey! Send them flying with Gust!" Pidgey flapped his wings, kicking up a wind, sending Team Rocket flying in the air.
"Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Team Rocket shouted as they went flying in the distance. A star twinkled when they got there.
"What a great save, guys. Your hearts were in the right place," Sora said. Caterpie and Weedle both smiled. They then started to move around. "What's the matter with you two? You okay?"
Caterpie and Weedle both started to glow very brightly. Sora and Kairi were awestruck to what was happening.
"Caterpie and Weedle are evolving!" Kairi said.
They were awestruck to witness Pokémon evolution with their own eyes. Caterpie has become an insect-like Pokémon with an appearance similar to that of a green-colored chrysalis. His eyes are still clearly visible and they appeared to be dazed, drowsy, or angry for some reason. Weedle has become an insect-like Pokémon with an appearance similar to that of a yellow chrysalis. He has jet black eyes. Sora and Kairi scanned each one of them. Sora pointed it at the green cocoon Pokémon and Kairi pointed it at the yellow cocoon.

The shell covering this Pokémon's body is as hard as an iron slab. Metapod does not move very much. It stays still because it is preparing its soft innards for evolution inside the hard shell.

Kakuna remains virtually immobile as it clings to a tree. However, on the inside, it is extremely busy as it prepares for its coming evolution. This is evident from how hot the shell becomes to the touch.
"Wow, so that's how they evolve. It's even more awesome than I thought," Sora said.
"Me too, Sora. It won't be long until they evolve again," Kairi said.
"Pika, Pika," Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
It was a sight to beheld. Not only they caught additional Pokémon, but they also witnessed Pokémon evolution for the first time ever. Things will become more and more interesting with each passing time. Stay tuned.
