Pokémon: Sinnoh no Isekai

Chapter One-hundred: Fair weather Fighting

After waking up early at their campsite on the intersection of Routes 118 and 119, Dawn and Kenny got everything packed up before making their way up Route 119. At the end they're supposed to make a turn to head east in order to get to Fortree City; there, they'll encounter Winona, the Fortree City gym leader and the next person they have to meet in order to continue the Hoenn portion of their gym challenge tour. Beating Winona will net Dawn and Kenny their respective sixth Hoenn gym badges, putting them at three-fourths of the way done.

But before they would actually go to Fortree City, Dawn and Kenny first had to stop by the Weather Institute, although it was mostly because Steven Stone, the champion of Hoenn, recommended it. Even so, Dawn and Kenny would have passed it on the way, and they would have figured to check it out. After a few hours of walking, Dawn and Kenny finally saw the Weather Institute within sight, reaching the front door right at the crack of eight in the morning.

"So this is the Weather Institute, huh?" Kenny said as he and Dawn looked up at it. Looking back down and turning to face Dawn, Kenny went on, "What's so special about this place?"

"In the Hoenn games in our previous lives," Dawn said, "This is where the player encountered Magma or Aqua grunts, depending on the game. The player could also get a Castform here."

Kenny nodded in understanding. "Ah yes, the Hoenn games. They had a thing with weather." Looking right at Dawn, Kenny asked, "So what do we do to get in? Do we just bang on the front door or-"

Dawn made Kenny stop short when she noticed movement behind the glass front door, and a few moments later a female scientist came into clear view of the reborn trainers. She unlocked the door from within before opening and asking, "Can I help you? We aren't open yet technically."

"Apologies," Dawn replied, "We actually stopped by here on our way to Fortree City. You see, Steven Stone suggested to us that-"

"The Hoenn champ himself?" the scientist woman interrupted, surprised to hear Dawn so casually name drop the champion of Hoenn, "Wait, just who are you?" Dawn and Kenny spent the next few moments introducing themselves to the scientist woman, then explained that they were curious about what all was going on there at the Weather Institute. Then the scientist woman said something that alarmed the reborn trainers.

"Steven must think that Team Scorn plans to come here to the Weather Institute to steal something!" the scientist woman exclaimed, "I thought it odd that Steven arranged for additional security for various locations here in Hoenn but not for the Weather Institute!"

Dawn then smacked herself in the forehead. "D'oh! I can't believe that we didn't think that the Weather Institute could have been a potential target for Team Scorn to go after!" Looking at the scientist woman, Dawn said, "Can Kenny and I come in so we can discuss this inside?"

"I was just about to suggest that very thing," replied the scientist woman before stepping to the side and gesturing for Dawn and Kenny to come on in.

After everyone was seated in a lounge area, Dawn asked the scientist woman, "So tell me. What all do you guys have here that you think Team Scorn will be interested in trying to get a hold of?"

"Well the last time the Weather Institute was attacked," the scientist woman began, "It was Teams Aqua and Magma duking it out for data we collected here at the Weather Institute. Data on weather and the super-ancient Pokémon. The data was stolen, but we had backup copies to save us." Looking to Dawn and Kenny, the scientist woman asked, "You don't think that Team Scorn may be interested in stealing that same data, do you?"

Dawn, with a serious look of consideration on her face, leaned back in her seat, her arms folded over her chest. "...The super-ancient Pokémon. I'm actually familiar with their legends to an extent, at least enough to know that the super-ancient Pokémon are called Groudon, Kyorge, and Rayquaza." Dawn took a pokéball out and expanded it, revealing it to be the Master Ball that held one of her on hand Pokémon. "...Me and Kenny's home region of Sinnoh has a trio of similarly powerful legendary Pokémon, called Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. One of the Pokémon between Groudon, Kyorge, and Rayquaza would be a match for one of the Pokémon between Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina in a battle."

Kenny had a dawning look of worry on his face. "...Hey Dawn, my main man, what are you implying?"

"Given how prolific our use of Tsukune and Black against Team Scorn has been," Dawn said, "It might have given Team Scorn the idea to get a hold of a Pokémon that's similarly as powerful. That being said, there's a fair chance that Team Scorn may be after pieces of a puzzle that they'll assemble in order to get Groudon, Kyorge, and or Rayquaza."

"You think that Team Scorn may be after the super-ancient legendary Pokémon?!" the scientist woman exclaimed, looking like her eyes might pop out of their sockets.

As Dawn shrank the Master Ball back down and put it away, a male scientist entered the room. "Millie, who are these kids?" the scientist asked.

"Oh kids, this is Bart," the now identified Millie said as she introduced the now identified Bart to them, "He's the head scientist here at the Weather Institute." Turning back to face Bart, Millie continued, "Bart, these are Sinnoh Champion Dawn Berlitz and her companion Kenny Harris, who are here at Steven Stone's prompting."

"I was wondering why the Weather Institute didn't receive additional security while other places in Hoenn did," Bart remarked, "With those Team Scorn grunts running around the Hoenn region, you'd think that a place like the Weather Institute might be a potential target thus receive some additional security arranged by the champion of Hoenn himself."

"It must have slipped his mind when we were discussing possible targets Team Scorn might go after," Kenny said, "And Dawn and I didn't know about the Weather Institute until sometime yesterday." Technically, both Kenny and Dawn were familiar with the Weather Institute on Route 119, thanks to the games and anime back in their previous lives. But no one knew they knew, and they actually had honestly forgotten about the Weather Institute until it came up.

As Bart was about to speak up about something, he got cut off when he heard a female voice call out, "Hey boss, our guest who showed up last night has woken up." Everyone turned to see a young adult woman, who looked to be somewhat younger than Millie, come walking into the room. Aside from wearing different shoes and a differently colored undershirt, this young adult woman was dressed the same as Millie. This new young adult woman had fair, somewhat pale, skin, long hair that seemed silvery white and was bound in a high ponytail, and although her eyes were cute, their wine red color made at least Kenny feel on alert about her.

Nodding to the young adult woman scientist who entered the room, Bart said, "Thanks for letting me know, Felicia."

"Who's this lady?" Kenny asked.

"That's Felecia," Millie explained as she made the introductions, "She's a new hire here. Literally new, as she showed up for her first day of work yesterday morning."

Turning to look at the now identified Felicia, Kenny asked, "And what's this about a 'guest who showed up last night'?"

Her hands on her hips, Felicia explained, "Last night, a girl who I'd say is a few years older than you showed up. She needed lodging for the night, so I convinced Bart to let her crash in the bunk room. She's even a Pokémon trainer, although she only owned a Jigglypuff when she showed up here."

"Hence why Felicia and Millie convinced me to let the girl have one of the Castform that we raised here," Bart went on, "And I can see why they suggested it. It wouldn't do for a Pokémon trainer to own just one Pokémon."

"So who's the girl?" Dawn asked.

Then, as if on cue, a tired sounding female voice, which struck the reborn trainers as familiar, called out with a yawn, "Hey, thanks again for letting me crash here in the bunk room." To the surprise of Dawn and Kenny, Ayane from Blackthorn City, Johto came walking into view, it having been Ayane who called out.

Standing up from his seat, Kenny pointed at Ayane and exclaimed, "You're that girl who was being sweet on Ideku Badorigo!"

Ayane woke up more at Kenny's declaration, then saw and recognized both Kenny and Dawn. "Oh, it's you guys!" Ayane said, surprised to see friendly familiar faces once again.

...

"Yeah, my new job has me traveling a lot," Ayane said to Dawn and Kenny as the three of them, plus Millie, Bart, and Felecia, sat down for some morning coffee, "It gives me a chance to see what all there is out there in the world. I was also hoping the traveling will give me the chance to catch at least enough Pokémon to get a full team of six, as prior to the start of my new job, I only had my Jigglypuff."

Dawn nodded in understanding, before turning to look at Bart. "You said something about gifting a Castform to Ayane here?"

"Oh yeah," Bart replied, "Here at the Weather Institute, aside from what we usually do here, we also raise a few of the Pokémon Castform. I own one myself."

"Castform are a fairly rare species of Pokémon," Millie went on, "Enough so that it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for the idea of Hoenn's government gifting some of the Castform that we raise here to notable persons of the governments of foreign regions in order to help cement solidarity between Hoenn and the other regions against the threat of Team Scorn." With a dry, knowing expression on her face, Millie added, "Maybe the idea can be proposed to Hoenn's government, and in return the Weather Institute might get some protection from the Team Scorn presence here in Hoenn, hmm?"

Kenny chuckled a bit in an understanding tone. "Yeah, Steven really dropped the ball when it came to not thinking about the Weather Institute as a possible target that Team Scorn might try going after."

Turning to look at Ayane, Dawn asked, "So Ayane, where will your job have you travel to next?"

With a bit of a smile, Ayane replied, "Actually, you and Kenny may be surprised to hear this Dawn, but after my work here in Hoenn for my job is finished, my boss said that I'll be heading to Sinnoh next."

"Hey hey, that's me and Dawn's home region!" Kenny said, sounding amused by the coincidence, "Can you tell us what you'll be up to?"

Ayane winced mildly as she said, "Sorry, but I can't really tell stuff about my job like that. Maybe if I'm still in Sinnoh the next time you guys run into me, I may be able to tell you?"

Dawn once more nodded in an understanding manner. "Fair enough. Anyway, Kenny and I were hoping to check out the Weather Institute here a bit before we make our way over to Fortree City so we can issue challenges to the gym leader over there. It'll be me and Kenny's sixth respective gym badges should we win."

Ayane closed her green eyes, brushed some of her green bob cut hair to the side with the side of her right hand, as she let out a mildly amused hum of a laugh. "You two are both notable heroes who fought off Team Scorn when they attacked Blackthorn City in Johto. You're both very strong, you Dawn especially so." Ayane opened her eyes, regarded the reborn trainers. "You two are bound to find victory in the Fortree City gym. I can fe-"

*CRASH*

"ALRIGHT, WEATHER INSTITUTE SCIENTISTS! YOU ALL BETTER PLAY NICE! WE OF TEAM SCORN WANT SOMETHING FROM YOU GUYS!"

Immediately, everyone got up, sufficiently alarmed. "I knew it!" Bart scowled, "I knew that we'd be at risk of being attacked by Team Scorn! Oh ho ho, when I get to bring this up to Champion Steven!"

"Now's not the time, sir," Felecia remarked, "We need to fight off Team Scorn!" Looking to the trainers, Felecia said, "Can you guys help us?"

Dawn and Kenny both nodded in agreement. "Our Pokémon could use some morning wake up exercise," Kenny replied, a hint of knowing amusement in his tone, "Now that the subject's been brought up."

Dawn gave an affirmative nod. "Might be a good chance to see how my Hariyama does in battle, given he evolved from a Makuhita very recently and hasn't really battled since evolving."

"Oh no no no, I can't really battle!" Ayane said, clearly looking panicked, "I only have two Pokémon, my Jigglypuff who fell very quickly the last time I was forced to fight Team Scorn, and the Castform that I was given literally yesterday and it's got no battle experience! I'll get trounced!"

Bart had a contemplative look of understanding on his face. "Yeah, Team Scorn is dangerous to deal with, especially for most but the strongest of trainers."

Felecia gestured to herself, saying, "I can lead Ayane here to safety, sir, meanwhile you and Millie can lead the two kids here down to confront Team Scorn."

"Fair enough," Bart said. Turning to Dawn, Kenny, and Millie, Bart remarked, "Come on! We need to go stop Team Scorn from doing whatever it is that they came here to do at the Weather Institute!"

"Right!" Dawn, Kenny, and Millie said in unison before following Bart to go confront Team Scorn, right at Felecia got Ayane to follow her to safety.

Down a ways in the Weather Institute, Team Scorn grunts were milling about the place, as an obvious Team Scorn officer, his outfit of a suit with yellow and dark blue stripes, stood back as he watched the grunts under him ravage and raid the place, clearly looking for something. "Remember, men!" the Team Scorn officer called out, "By no means can we afford to fail here! It is imperative that we find what we came here to collect!"

"You'll be going home empty handed!" a male voice called out, "Android 21, use Ice Punch!"

The Team Scorn officer jumped back quickly to avoid being hit by, to his surprise, a shiny Weavile. The shiny Weavile leapt back to stand next to, again to the Team Scorn officer's surprise, a shiny Hariyama. The two incredibly rare Pokémon stood in front of Bart, Millie, Dawn, and Kenny, with Kenny having been the one to call out just now. "And who the hell might you be, Team Scorn officer?" Kenny demanded, pointing a demanding finger at the Team Scorn officer.

"How impudent," the Team Scorn officer remarked, brushing the suit top pocket that his outfit's Team Scorn insignia was on with his right hand as if he were brushing off dirt, "Having your Pokémon attack a human."

"You're a criminal," Dawn pointed out, "Belonging to an organization of other criminals who has done loads worse than order a Pokémon to attack a human who, need I point out again, is a criminal. I think that Kenny and his Weavile can be excused here."

The Team Scorn officer looked a bit surprised by what Dawn said. "Kenny, you say? As in Kenny Harris, one of the troublesome trainers who has been getting up in Team Scorn's face ever since our actions in Johto had started?"

The reborn trainers grimaced a bit. "...I am, yes," Kenny replied.

Looking to Dawn, the Team Scorn officer said, "And you must be Dawn Berlitz, given that Kenny Harris here is your companion. Even if you were here without him, I'd still be able to identify you. Being the champion of Sinnoh makes your face famous."

"...Would you at least be so kind as to answer Kenny's question?" Dawn asked, "After all, you got our names, but we don't have yours."

"A fair enough bargain," replied the Team Scorn officer, "Very well." Holding his right hand over his chest, the Team Scorn officer said, "My name is Katou, and I'm the First Captain of Team Scorn's Kunai Sector. I'm sure you've already encountered my fellow officer in Team Scorn's Kunai Sector, Second Captain Ayumu."

"What is it that you and your men here came to do, Katou?" Bart demanded as he took a step forward, "Steal some of our data we've collected on the weather?"

Katou arched a wry eyebrow at the Weather Institute's lead scientist out of curious confusion. "...What are you talking about?" Katou said, "We're not after any matter of data, no! We're here to get our hands on at least one of the Castforms that you Weather Institute scientist folks raise here!"

Millie grimaced bitterly. "Figures that criminals like you Team Scorn lot would be after our Castforms."

Katou gave a single amused hum of a laugh as he tossed up two pokéballs, calling out a Politoed and a Swoobat. "It would seem that I will have to help my men fight off the powerful trainers that are here confronting us." At that cue, all of the Team Scorn grunts sent out one Pokémon each, all of them common Pokémon for villainous team grunts in Hoenn to use.

"Android 21, use Night Slash on Swoobat!" Kenny called out.

"Zatch, use Rock Slide!" Dawn ordered.

Kenny's shiny Weavile rushed in and slashed at Katou's Swoobat with a dark, pitch black slashing energy, making it cry out in pain and drop to the floor defeated. As for Zatch, he conjured loads of rocks to make fall down all over all of the enemy Pokémon. A good many of the grunts' Pokémon were taken out by the shiny Hariyama's AOE attack, but a scant few of the grunts' Pokémon were able to avoid getting hit, and Katou's Politoed despite being hit was able to tough it out, albeit barely just.

Then Team Scorn's Pokémon were able to go on the offensive, although only the two Poochyenas who avoided Zatch's Rock Slide attack used Tackle on Zatch, with even their combined efforts not doing much due to the sheer bulk Zatch as a Hariyama possesses. As for Katou's Politoed, he used Bubblebeam on Android 21, but the attack only clipped the shiny Weavile on her left shoulder. The speed drop did not occur on Android 21.

The melee resumed, with Dawn having Zatch take out one of the two Poochyenas with Low Sweep while Android 21 picked off Katou's weakened Politoed with Brick Break. "Ah ha ha!" Kenny laughed, "Your Politoed is nothing compared to my own Politoed Kermit! Your's is raised on evil while mine is raised on cringe!"

The first captain of Team Scorn's Kunai Sector growled a bit in annoyed frustration. "You really are less couth than your champion friend, Kenny Harris," Katou growled.

"Doesn't matter!" Kenny declared, throwing a hand out in a defiant gesture, "You guys, like your bum buddies we've encountered in both Johto and also the ones here in Hoenn, will have your bums handed to you! By the power of cringe, I shall-"

"Hey! Get back here with my Castform!"

Kenny and everyone else stopped short when they heard Ayane cry out, then turned to see a female Team Scorn grunt who looked suspiciously familiar to Dawn, Kenny, Millie, and Bart come running out, being followed by Ayane. The female Team Scorn grunt moved to stand next to Katou before lowering her mask and taking off her baret, just to show the heroes that she's Felecia. The heroes were shocked by this betrayal from someone that they thought that they could trust.

"Felecia!" Bart swore, "What is the meaning of this?! Why are you siding with Team Scorn?!"

Shrugging, Felecia replied in a casual tone, "Oh please, I had joined Team Scorn long ago. I was merely doing undercover work for Captain Katou when I showed up here for my 'first day of work', which in reality was helping to make sure at least one Castform was secured for us to take when we were ready to launch the raid on the Weather Institute. That Ayane girl showing up last night with only one Pokémon to her name helped make things easier for me than what I had been expecting, even more so when I was left alone with her moments ago to 'lead her to safety'."

Katou let out an amused hum of a laugh. "Indeed, would be heroes. Felecia here has proven invaluable as my Captain's Assistant, especially with her ability to do undercover work. And now with our goal completed, we shall be withdrawing. A bit of a shame we weren't able to acquire more than one Castform here as they would have gone for a mint in auctions on the black market given how rare they are, but we still got the one we needed for our mission here to be a success."

"Oh like hell you'll-" Dawn said, but got cut off when some Team Scorn grunts, after all of them recalled their Pokémon, threw some smoke bombs to create cover for them, Katou, and Felecia who turned out to be Katou's Captain's Assistant, to all flee. When the smoke settled, everyone remaining saw that the area they were fighting in was mildly wrecked, and Ayane looked upset over the theft of her Castform.

Bart let out a huff through his nose. "...We're going to be reporting this right away."

"I'll get a hold of Steven," Dawn said, her tone bitter with the feeling of defeat due to Team Scorn getting away with a scheme, "Tell him what us forgetting to think about the Weather Institute had allowed to let happen." Dawn also turned to regard Ayane, who was upset that her Castform that was given to her had been stolen by Felecia, who had turned out to be a Team Scorn member working undercover to help secure her group's goal for the raid on the Weather Institute. Felecia was even one of the persons who had suggested that a Castform be given to Ayane; did Felecia think that far ahead?

Team Scorn was NOT to be underestimated by any means.

Later at an undisclosed location in Hoenn, Admin Ninja of Team Scorn's Kunai Sector was sitting at his desk in his office, with his Admin's Assistant and friend from before they joined Team Scorn, Goemon, standing before him to give a report. "Despite the surprise appearance of Sinnoh Champion Dawn Berlitz and her companion Kenny Harris at the Weather Institute," Goemon said, "Captain Katou was able to succeed in his assignment to secure a Castform from the Weather Institute."

Ninja, his elbows on his desk and his fingers locked while resting his chin on his locked fingers, gave a single nod of acknowledgement. "There have been cases where Team Scorn captains failed easier jobs than Katou's job to secure a Castform, and those failing captains had at least ninety-six hours notice when they had started the jobs that they ended up failing. Katou, however, not only succeeded in his moderately difficult job in securing a Castfrom from the Weather Institute, but he did so with less than forty-eight hours notice before starting the job."

Goemon smirked in amusement. "Heh, it's no wonder that... he... says that Katou ought to be set as the standard for how all Team Scorn captains ought to be." With a curious look, Goemon went on, "Speaking of... him... when do we send the Castform that Katou got his way?"

"As soon as Katou brings it here," Ninja replied, "And after Katou turns the Castform over, he and Captain Ayumu will be needed for the meeting to discuss the plan for our attack on Lilycove City."

Goemon nodded in understanding, then inhaled and exhaled through his nose. "...We're really going to recreate the events that ultimately led to the death of that geeky Sakura girl you ended up falling in love with, huh?"

"The efforts this time will be focused on the wealthy families who actually have it coming," Ninja replied, "And eliminating so many of Hoenn's wealthy elite, who have a lot of thumbs in a lot of pies so to speak, will help to destabilize the Hoenn region to an extent. Also..." Ninja's eyes narrowed, his brows furrowed. He reached down to his waist, reached under the side of his haori long coat, and pulled out his large kunai from the sheath on his left side. Ninja's melee kunai, as large as a bowie knife, durable and well made, perfectly sharp and polished so that it reflected some light and gave off a gleaming sparkle at the point when some light reflected onto it.

"...I'm going to find out the identities of all persons responsible for murdering Sakura that night, so that I can introduce this to their throats."

END, CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED

Author's notes;

Woo-hoo! I finally got a story to reach one-hundred chapters! That's got to call for something of a celebration! In all seriousness, this chapter shows that Team Scorn, if anything, isn't anywhere near the level of incompetence that the Team Rocket trio tends to show in the anime, with Team Scorn here succeeding in their job of securing a Castfrom from the Weather Institute despite Dawn and Kenny kicking the asses of all Team Scorn members they fought during the raid. The end also shows that Admin Ninja plans to recreate events in Hoenn from a few years prior while focusing said events on 'wealthy families who have it coming', saying it'll lead to destabilizing the Hoenn region at large. Ninja also implied he intends to... have a chat... with all persons responsible for killing a girl he had fallen in love with a few years back.

Anyway, the next chapter will begin on a bit of a sad note before seeing Dawn and Kenny off to Fortree City, given that the both of them are going to be having some business with Winona. Don't turn that dial.

Dawn's Pokémon: (on hand) Chi-Chi (female Infernape), Souji (male Rampardos), Zatch (male Hariyama; shiny), Tsukune (Palkia), Luna (female Luxray), Germany (male Garchomp)

Kenny's Pokémon: (one hand) Shallot (male Glaceon), Juan (male Pikachu; Libre), Android 21 (female Weavile; shiny), Godzilla (male Tyranitar), Sophie (female Lileep), Priestess (female Liligant; Hisuian; alpha)
