Chapter One-hundred and three: Riot in Lilycove City, part two
"Zatch, use Rock Slide!"
A shiny Hariyama used Rock Slide at the command of the girl who owned him. That girl, Dawn Berlitz, was up above the violence below her as she rode on the back of her Palkia. Down below her, Dawn's shiny Hariyama Zatch, alongside Kenny's Tyranitar Godzilla (Kenny flew in place near Dawn on the back of his Giratina Black) was also using Rock Slide at Kenny's command. The two Pokémon with the co-op Rock Slide took out many of the opposing Pokémon that were sent out against them by the rioters that had swarmed into the one percent neighborhood in Lilycove City to riot.
The two reborn trainers were just wondering why. Why was this not only happening, showing that the wealthy elite of Lilycove City oppressing the lower and working class as they had been did indeed lead to a repeat of history, but as explosively as it was? The numbers were way greater than what was estimated out of the lower and working class rioters if the numbers from the last time something like this had happened were accurate.
"Yo Dawn," Kenny called out while the rioters below recalled their fainted Pokémon, "Something don't add up here!"
Dawn nodded in agreement. "Yeah. There's way too many of the guys down below. I don't-"
Dawn was cut off when the rioters below sent out another wave of their Pokémon, as well as some of the rioters slipping past and rushing on to get to the large manors that the wealthy elite lived in within Lilycove City's wealthy elite neighborhood. "Kenny, can you go after the ones who slipped past?"
"On it, chief!" Kenny said as he signaled for Black to follow; seeing his trainer turn around to fly off somewhere, Godzilla likewise turned around to follow Kenny off.
Dawn had Tsukune go down a bit before she sent out Albedo and Souji to back up Zatch. "...Looks like Albedo and Souji are getting some practice for when I use them in the Mossdeep City gym battle," Dawn muttered to herself. Calling out, Dawn shouted, "Alright, you jerks! Bring it on!"
"Godzilla, use Brick Break on Magnemite! Android 21, use Night Slash on Baltoy!"
A short while after he had left Dawn, Kenny had been able to chase down most of the rioters that slipped past his and Dawn's initial defense, and had just issued orders to his Tyranitar and shiny Weavile to attack the last of the Pokémon that the rioters he had chased down had sent out against him. Seeing that they were all out of Pokémon that they could use, and what few blunt instruments they had would prove ineffective against a Tyranitar whose armored hide had well earned the reputation it has, the rioters had no choice but to turn tail and run away.
Seeing those rioters turn tail and run away, Kenny turned back to look in the direction what few of the rioters that were able to slip past him a second time ran off in. He fully intended to chase those rioters down, but a voice called out, "Hold, Kenny Harris!"
Surprised to hear someone call his name out, Kenny turned to see two guys he didn't recognize come out to confront him. These were Admin Ninja and Admin's Assistant Goemon of Team Scorn's Kunai Sector, not that Kenny could tell as the two of them wore plain clothes disguises. "We can't really afford to let you go chase down those others," Ninja spoke up, showing by his voice that it was him who had called out to Kenny, "We'll hold you here in battle, or at least we'll do so for as long as we can as I know there's no way my partner here and I can best you even together."
"You know who I am?" Kenny said, sounding suspicious.
Gesturing to the Pokémon that Kenny rode on, Ninja went on, "You caught the legendary Pokémon Giratina. And my partner and I saw as we were coming in that your friend Dawn Berlitz was riding on the legendary Pokémon Palkia. To think that the champion of Sinnoh and her companion would be here, meddling in the plans of the Anarchy Party."
"Anarchy Party?" Kenny questioned.
"We basically wanna stick it to the man," Goemon spoke up, "And helping these oppressed lower and working class dudes along with getting revenge on the money bags who oppress them will speed things along to what we want. At least that's what we believe."
Kenny's eyes narrowed, his brows furrowed, as he directed Godzilla and Android 21 to turn to face the disguised members of Team Scorn. Ninja sent his Ninjask out while Goemon sent out his Shedinja. "Ninjask, use Double Team!" Ninja called out.
"Shedinja, use X-Scissor on Weavile!" Goemon ordered.
"Godzilla, use Crunch on Shedinja!" Kenny commanded, "Android 21, use Aerial Ace on Ninjask!"
The opposing Pokémon all rushed at one another, with Android 21 going in and striking true at the real Ninjask just as it got up two Double Team doppelgangers. Aerial Ace doesn't miss its mark, so the attack not only was guaranteed to hit, but it took Ninjask down, busting its few Double Team doppelgangers it had up at the same time as they busted upon the real deal's defeat. This left Godzilla to rush up to Shedinja and crunch down on it, taking it out in one hit; Kenny was both wise and lucky to have dark type Pokémon out at the time he was challenged by Goemon's Shedinja, whose Wonder Guard ability wouldn't save it from the darkness.
The two disguised members recalled their fainted bug Pokémon before Goemon sent out Sableye and Ninja sent out Ninetales. Gesturing forward, Kenny called out, "Godzilla, use Rock Slide! Android 21, use Night Slash on Sableye!"
"Ninetales, use Flamethrower on Weavile!" Ninja ordered.
"Sableye, use Shadow Claw on Tyranitar!" Goemon called out.
Android 21 rushed in and slashed at Sableye with Night Slash so hard, she pushed Sableye back as it held its arms over its stomach as if in pain. However, Android 21 ended up getting pushed back as well when she was hit by Ninetales's Flamethrower, and although she didn't go down or was burned, the attack still did a number to the shiny Weavile. However, Godzilla then came in and summoned an avalanche of rocks to fall down on both opposing Pokémon, striking both Ninetales and the injured Sableye. Both were taken out by the Tyranitar's attack, Ninetales due to being weak to rock, and Sableye due to being previously injured by Android 21.
Ninja and Goemon recalled their fainted Pokémon as Kenny recalled Android 21 to send Cell out in her place. "A shiny Weavile and a shiny Scizor?" Ninja remarked, "Well we did get it that you own a number of shiny Pokémon, Kenny Harris. We got it down that you tend to have the most incredible luck when it comes to chancing upon shiny Pokémon in the wild." The disguised Team Scorn admin almost continued speaking up, but he quickly caught himself because he knew that if he didn't, he would have accidentally revealed the presence of Team Scorn in this riot.
Kenny's eyes narrowed in suspicion. "...You anarchists are interested in the business of shiny Pokémon?"
"Who wouldn't be?" Goemon replied, "They are rare. But that's not here or there. Go, Banette!"
"Go, Greninja!" Ninja said as he and Goemon sent out Greninja and Banette respectively.
Now it was Kenny's turn to be surprised with what he saw. "A Greninja outside of the Kalos region?" Kenny remarked, "You don't see that everyday." Kenny was for reasons he couldn't quite pin down reminded of when he and Dawn had fought against the attack launched by Team Scorn on Blackthorn City in the Johto region, but neither he nor Dawn had seen or heard any signs of Team Scorn involvement here. Still, he had anarchists to fight off, so Kenny had to put what concerns he had to the side for the time being.
Gesturing forward, Kenny called out, "Godzilla, use Rock Slide! Cell, use X-Scissor on Greninja!"
"Banette, use Shadow Claw on Scizor!" Goemon ordered.
"Greninja, Double Team!" Ninja commanded.
Greninja quickly wove hand signs as it conjured multiple Double Team doppelgangers, with one of the doppelgangers getting taken out by Cell's X-Scissor. Godzilla was able to summon down another avalanche of rocks before Banette got close to attacking Cell, hitting Banette and making it flinch while also taking out two of Greninja's Double Team doppelgangers. "Godzilla, use Rock Slide again!" Kenny ordered, "Cell, use Aerial Ace on Greninja!"
"Greninja, use Waterfall on Tyranitar!" Ninja called out.
"Banette, use Shadow Claw on Scizor!" Goemon commanded.
Greninja, with a few of its doppelgangers, rushed in towards Godzilla and jumped up, getting cloaked in violently surging water, before slamming down right onto the named Tyranitar, dealing a solid hit to the pseudo-legend and making it cry out in pain, as well as making him flinch. Cell was able to rush in and swipe at the real Greninja with Aerial Ace, which flew in and struck true. However, Cell took a grazing hit from Banette, who was able to strike at the shiny Scizor uncontested.
"Godzilla, use Rock Slide!" Kenny commanded, "Cell, use Aerial Ace on Greninja again!"
Ninja scoffed a bit in annoyance; his Greninja had upped its evasion with Double Team, but Aerial Ace, an attack that always lands on its mark, ignores evasion boosts. Kenny was taking advantage of Aerial Ace's perfect accuracy to ensure hits landed on the evasive Greninja. "...You certainly are more of a strategist than what some folks would say," Ninja commented, "Given your reputation for your 'cringe' as you put it. But it won't be enough." Gesturing forward, Ninja called out, "Greninja, use Waterfall on Tyranitar!"
"Banette, use Shadow Claw on Scizor!" Goemon ordered.
Greninja rushed in with its dopplegangers again and struck down on Godzilla with slams of violently surging water. Godzilla was doing poorly at this rate, but not poorly enough as he was able to avoid flinching. As he summoned down some rocks to cascade down upon Greninja and Banette, Cell rushed in and struck at Greninja with Aerial Ace, dealing it another solid hit. Then the Rock Slide fell; two more of Greninja's doppelgangers were taken out but the real deal wasn't hit, and Banette got hit and was knocked out before it could hit Cell, prompting Goemon to recall it. Seeing the disguised Team Scorn Admin's Assistant not send out another Pokémon had told Kenny that Goemon was out of Pokémon.
Jerking a thumb at Goemon, Kenny said to Ninja, "Looks like your buddy there is out of Pokémon."
"That may be so," Ninja replied coolly, "But we don't go down without a fight." Gesturing forward, Ninja called out, "Greninja, use Waterfall on Tyranitar!"
"Godzilla, use Brick Break on Greninja!" Kenny called out, "Cell, use Aerial Ace on Greninja!"
Both of Kenny's Pokémon rushed towards Greninja and what few doppelgangers it had left active, while Greninja and said doppelgangers rushed towards Tyranitar. Greninja was the first to strike, slamming into Tyranitar while cloaked in violently surging water again, and this time scoring a critical hit that made Godzilla fall over and pass out in defeat. Cell, being uncontested in this instance, rushed in and struck true at Greninja with Aerial Ace.
"Oh hell no!" Kenny said as he recalled his fainted named Tyranitar; again, Kenny felt reminded of when he and Dawn tangoed with Team Scorn in Blackthorn City, but there was clearly no Team Scorn presence here in Lilycove City. Kenny sent Android 21 back out, even though she had previously taken a solid hit from Ninja's Ninetails earlier in the battle. "Android 21 and Cell," Kenny said, "Both of you use Aerial Ace on Greninja!"
"Greninja, use Waterfall on Weavile!" Ninja commanded.
The Pokémon all rushed in towards one another, but with Android 21 as the fastest. She struck true at Greninja with Aerial Ace, and was lucky enough to score a critical hit that, though it didn't defeat Greninja, it did stun it momentarily. Just long enough for Cell to rush in and strike at Greninja with his own Aerial Ace and hit it solidly enough to finally knock Greninja out.
As Ninja recalled his fainted Greninja, Kenny upon seeing Ninja fail to send out another Pokémon cheered, "Ah ha ha! Looks like you and your friend here are defeated! I'd like to see you and all of your anarchist bum buddies try to do anything to the upper crust guys now!"
The disguised Team Scorn admin looked up at where Kenny sat on the back of Giratina, gave him a curious but firm look. "...You think me and my group want to strike at the wealthy elite of Lilycove City, same as the lower and working class rioters?"
Kenny looked surprised by what Ninja said. "Whachu on about?"
"My and my group don't really wanna 'stick it to the man'," Ninja said, "We don't wanna loot from the wealthy, nor even physically harm them in any way. All we're doing it clearing the way for the rioters so that they can do all of that."
"Then what is it that you 'anarchists' really want?" Kenny asked.
"What all will happen as a result of the rioters giving the wealthy elite the royal Kalosian treatment," Goemon answered.
Kenny looked surprised by what Goemon had said; what did he mean by 'what all will happen as a result of the rioters giving the wealthy elite the royal Kalosian treatment'? He could figure out what was meant by the 'giving the royal Kalosian treatment' part, but what had Kenny confused was what Goemon meant by what all will happen as a result.
As the reborn trainer tried thinking about it, he heard a familiar male voice call out, "Admin Ninja! Admin's Assistant Goemon!" Looking over in the direction that the call came from, Kenny saw two of the 'anarchists' who were dressed similarly as the plain clothes disguised Ninja and Goemon, a man and a somewhat younger woman, come running up. The woman of the pair, even with her outfit disguising herself, was still clearly that Felecia woman from Team Scorn who was able to give everyone at the Weather Institute on Route 119 the slip and steal Ayane's Castform. And looking at the man of the pair, Kenny saw how he could be that Captain Katou guy.
"Hey!" Kenny exclaimed as he pointed at the new arrivals, "You're those bastard Team Scorn bastards from the Weather Institute!" Turning to look at the disguised Ninja and Goemon, Kenny went on, "And what's this about you two being an Admin and an Admin's Assistant?!"
Ninja, realizing that the Delcatty was out of the bag, turned to scowl at Katou, who had been the one to call out. "Damn it, Katou," Ninja scowled, "You just blew our cover here in Lilycove City." Turning back to look up at Kenny, Ninja in one swift motion ripped off his plain clothes disguise, revealing he wore his custom Team Scorn outfit underneath. Following Ninja's example, Goemon, Katou, and Felecia ripped off their plain clothes disguises, revealing their Team Scorn outfits as well.
"So you Team Scorn bastards WERE involved here!" Kenny swore.
Nodding once, Ninja said, "Yeah. Team Scorn was backing the rioters here for what it stood to gain as a result."
"And that would be?" Kenny asked slash demanded.
Ninja said nothing at first, merely pointed up at Kenny. "...Let's just say that Hoenn as a whole will feel the sting of this attack for longer than after any deaths that occur here are smoothed over."
Felecia moved to look like she was about to challenge Kenny, but Ninja seeing this called her off immediately. "...Kenny Harris just defeated Goemon and I, Felecia. He still has Pokémon who can fight, especially Giratina who still ought to be fresh. You would stand no chance." Turning to look up at Kenny, Ninja went on, "We'll be taking our leave now."
"Hold it!" Kenny said, "What makes you think I'll-"
"If you wanna stop the rioters who slipped past you," Ninja interrupted, "And them unlike Team Scorn have hostile intentions for the rich living here, then you best get moving towards stopping them now." Kenny realized that Ninja had a point; as much as he wanted to hold up some of Team Scorn's command structure, he knew that he had a moral obligation to save (arguably) innocent persons here.
Having no choice in the matter, Kenny had to let Ninja, Goemon, Katou, and Felecia go so he could rush off to save as many lives as he could manage. Recalling Cell and Android 21 first, Kenny then had Black fly off in the direction he saw some of the rioters rush off in earlier before he was interrupted by disguised members of Team Scorn. Kenny knew that he had a lot to tell Dawn when things here were finally settled.
Late that afternoon, getting close to evening, the rioting had settled down, but that was mainly due to how word had gotten out that the 'Anarchy Party' that was backing the rioters was actually members of Team Scorn in plain clothes disguises. The shock of finding out that they had been working with such reprehensible villains had really done a number on the enthusiasm of the rioters. Even the rioters who were... sadly successful in giving the royal Kalosian treatment to some of the wealthy elites living in that upper crust neighborhood... willingly turned themselves in to the authorities, disgusted with themselves with having worked alongside terrorists.
Speaking of said actions, some of the wealthy elites did meet their ends in the riots, mainly due to how many persons were able to slip past what few defenders there where who stood up to try fighting them off. Dawn could count the number of wealthy elites who survived the rioting with just the digits on one of her hands, and she'd not need to use all of those digits. Luckily, Bean was among the wealthy elites who survived, and she was able to use her influence as the richest survivor (plus what happened as something of a warning to the others) to influence the other surviving rich to shift gears and align with her way of thinking.
...But that wasn't much consolation considering how many rich had met their bloody, violent ends. To make things worse, only ONE of them had things set up for an heir to inherit, meaning the estates of many of them were now up for debate; with how much there was to claim in all cases, there were going to be a LOT of arguments, and things would go on for quite some time. Additionally, many of the rich who perished in the rioting not only were leading members of many ventures in Hoenn, but none of them had anyone lined up to take over for them if they left for good; the only qualified persons who could take over said ventures were persons living in foreign regions (Dawn and Kenny were amused to hear that two such persons were from Sinnoh), but none of them wanted to come over to Hoenn, due to a mix of fearing that they'll be victims of another riot and fearing Team Scorn.
As a result, a lot of ventures in Hoenn began to crawl to a standstill. This in turn also led to how the region's economy also started taking a hit. "...So you're figuring that Team Scorn was trying to cripple Hoenn's economy to any degree that they could manage," Kenny said to Dawn as they relaxed at the Pokémon Center in Lilycove City following the riots being drawn to a close. Kenny told Dawn what all he had learned during the riots, as well as how he had fought off what command structure from Team Scorn was present in Lilycove City during the riots.
Dawn nodded in the affirmative. "The regions of the world are starting to band together to fight off Team Scorn. It would make sense for Team Scorn to want to try weakening the regions in any way so as to stand a better chance." As Dawn and Kenny talked, they heard some other persons in the Pokémon Center get excited, so they looked over. As such, they saw Steven Stone enter the Pokémon Center. The champion of Hoenn spotted Dawn and Kenny, then made a beeline right for them.
"What happened here in Lilycove City is all over Hoenn regional news," Steven said, "I can't believe that I wasn't here to try helping out with stopping the riots. I also got it down that Team Scorn was involved."
"Yeah," Dawn remarked in a dry tone, "They were secretly backing the rioters while disguised as some sort of 'Anarchy Party'. Kenny found Team Scorn out when that Captain Katou guy unknowingly revealed to Kenny that he was battling an Admin Ninja and Ninja's Admin's Assistant, some guy named Goemon."
Steven immediately turned to face Kenny. "You battled a Team Scorn Admin?"
Kenny nodded once in the affrimative. "Battled and defeated. Granted, his Greninja defeated my Tyranitar before I won, but I still brought the pain to both Ninja and his assistant."
The champion of Hoenn nodded in acknowledgement before he folded his arms over his chest, his expression turning grim. "...Team Scorn might actually see some success due in their goals here. The rich who died in the riots today will be leaving a lot of wealth behind, and there's bound to be arguments in courts over who gets what and how much."
"Especially since I got it that only ONE of the rich people who kicked it had an heir set up to inherit," Dawn pointed out.
"Indeed," Steven said to the Sinnoh champion. To both of the reborn trainers, Steven went on, "In addition to that, most of the people who died not only had controlling interests in a lot of ventures here in Hoenn, and no-one's set up to take over any of that. There's also a lack of persons qualified to take over coming in from foreign regions. That lack of running what was left behind will have some detrimental effect on Hoenn's economy, mark my words."
"So what can Dawn and I do?" Kenny asked.
Sighing, Steven said, "The only thing that I can suggest is that the two of you continue your Gym Challenge tour here in Hoenn, and let people well versed in how to run an economy try to get things back on track."
Dawn nodded in agreement. "Yes. I believe the next gym that Kenny and I can go after is in Mossdeep City."
"Oh!" Steven said, "I actually live in Mossdeep City. I can give you two a tour, and even introduce you to Tate and Liza, the twin gym leaders of the Mossdeep City gym."
Having someone guide them like that would be a big boon to the reborn trainers. "Yeah, that sounds pretty tight," Kenny remarked, "Dawn and I just need to wait for the Nurse Joy here to clear our respective Pokémon before we can set sail for Mossdeep City."
Steven, looking confused, replied, "We... were going to take a Devon Corporation helicopter. I don't have a boat waiting."
"Kenny was using a figure of speech," Dawn pointed out, "Also, Hoenn has a lot of sea and ocean area to travel through, so one can't blame him for thinking that travel along water might be involved."
"Ah, that's fair," Steven replied, looking like he now understood, "And I can see why one would think water travel can crop up here in Hoenn. There's a lot of sea and ocean area like you said Dawn." With an amused smirk on his face, Steven added, "In fact, Winona says that Hoenn might possibly have too much water."
Dawn and Kenny had a bit of a laugh with Steven when he said that, then shortly afterwards the Nurse Joy came up and informed Dawn and Kenny that their respective Pokémon were all fully treated and ready to go. The reborn trainers collected their Pokémon, then left the Pokémon Center with Steven, followed him out to a Devon Corporation helicopter that he had waiting outside, then they all took off to fly right on over to the large island in Hoenn that Mossdeep City was located on. Mossdeep City, in addition to being where the seventh gym that Dawn and Kenny were going to challenge was located, was also the location of the last discussed target that Team Scorn might try targeting in some way, the Space Center.
Given what had just happened in Lilycove City, the reborn trainers were fearing the worst.
END, CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND THREE
Author's notes;
This chapter wraps up Dawn and Kenny's time in Lilycove City, dealing with the riots and discovering that they were (at least partly) instigated by Team Scorn in a bid to ultimately compromise Hoenn's economy to at least some degree. All that Dawn and Kenny can do for now is continue to focus on the Hoenn portion of their Gym Challenge tour, and Steven's giving them a lift right on over to Mossdeep City, where the seventh gym is located. Mossdeep City is also the location of the Space Center, and who knows what sort of evil shenanigans Team Scorn can get up to if they can screw around there.
Also, I'm thinking about having Dawn and Kenny get some outfit sets of old Team Magma and Team Aqua uniforms, mostly as a for fun bit. Hey, they got those Team Galactic uniforms a while back; why not make a theme of them getting copies of the uniforms of the various bad guy teams (sans Team Scorn) from the various regions they go to?
