Episode 27: Koffing It Up
Just before we get right to the chapter, I thought I should include the city of Odaiba in this fic since it's the DigiDestined's hometown. I did say the human characters of Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Bakugan. And I figured the characters of Digimon Adventure 01/02 making an appearance earlier than in the original, so enjoy the chapter.
A few days came and went since Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel have seen an actual dragon with their own eyes, and they made it to another city. This city is known as Odaiba City. It was some days down a way from Porta Vista by foot.
"Odaiba. It looks better than I thought it would," Kairi said.
"Eevee, vee," Angel said.
"My first time here, too. What do you say, Pikachu?" Sora asked his partner.
"Pika, Pika, Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"We should find the Pokémon Center and rest for a while," Sora said.
"Good idea. All of our Pokémon could use a rest," Kairi said.
"Vee," Angel said.
As they walked right down the streets of Odaiba, they went past a boy who has tan skin and chocolate brown eyes. He has spiky brown hair that sticks out wildly in three distinct triangles. He wore a green shirt under a blue T-shirt with a yellow border on the top and a triangle on each sleeve and in the middle, which is cut by a yellow line. He also wore yellow wristbands on his hands, light brown shorts, gray socks, and blue and yellow sneakers with white soles. He spots the four of them walking by him.
Elsewhere in the city, a gang of Koffing are eating their fill of garbage in an old warehouse. Once that has concluded, the ring leader floats forward.
"Koffing! Koffing, Koffing!" The leading Koffing shouted. The other Koffing complied with their leader. All of the Koffing started to float out of the warehouse and right into the city.
Meanwhile, over at the Pokémon Center, Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel have arrived and had their Pokémon checked in.
"Good thing we found this place," Sora said.
"It sure was," Kairi agreed. "It is on the way to Fushia City."
"Where do we go from here?" Sora asked. Kairi took out the map and looked over it
"Well, we're here. And to get to Fushia City from here, we should go towards Gringey City and right through these mountains. And we can reach Fushia City within a matter of days; that is long as nothing crazy happens," Kairi said.
"With our luck, I wouldn't hold my breath," Sora said. Kairi looked right at Sora. "Just saying."
"Well, if you say so, Sora," Kairi said. A jingle is heard. "That has to be us, Sora." They stood up as Pikachu, Angel, and their Pokéballs have been brought to them by Nurse Joy and her two Blissey.
"Your Pokémon are both fighting fit," Nurse Joy said.
"Thanks, Nurse Joy," Kairi said.
"Yeah, thanks," Sora said.
Pikachu and Angel returned to their Trainers as they took their Pokéballs back from her.
Unknown to them, a girl with short brown hair and eyes is eyeing the two of them. She had a red hair clip on the left and wore a sleeveless white and pink turtlenecked shirt, pink fingerless opera gloves with an oval cut from the top of the palms, yellow shorts with a brown belt, white stockings, and pink and gray boots with black soles. She carries a digital camera hanging from a yellow cord from her neck. She took the camera and she takes some pictures of the two of them.
They see the girl, taking the picture, making Pikachu nervous.
"Pika," Pikachu nervously said.
"Chill out, Pikachu," Sora said, calming Pikachu down.
"Sorry to surprise. I just noticed and I've been taking some pictures of the various Pokémon and their Trainers. For some reason, your Pikachu and Eevee caught my eye," the girl said.
"Thanks," Kairi said.
"I should introduce myself. My name's Kari Kamiya," Kari introduced herself.
"Sora Ketchum," Sora introduced himself.
"I'm Kairi, and this is Angel," Kairi introduced herself and Angel.
"Eevee, vee," Angel said.
"Angel, huh? Such a cute nickname for your Eevee," Kari said, petting her. Angel found it to her liking. "And that little bow is adorable."
"Thanks. Angel likes it very much," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"I can tell," Kari said. She sets her attention to the Mouse Pokémon. "Your Pikachu is really cute, too.
"Thanks," Sora said. Pikachu shivered at the sight of the camera.
"Is your Pikachu okay?" Kari asked.
"He's fine. He's just nervous around cameras. Not sure why," Sora said.
"Oh, I see. I won't take any pictures if you don't want me to," Kari said. "What brings you two here in Odaiba City?"
"We're just passing by while heading for Fushia City," Sora said.
"Are you collecting Gym Badges, if so, how many do you have?" Kari asked.
"I have four under my belt," Sora said.
"What about her?" Kari asked.
"No, I'm not," Kairi said.
"Since you're Trainers, I was wondering if you would like to come with me to the park," Kari said.
"Sure, why not?" Sora and Kairi said.
Meanwhile, over at the local park, Team Rocket are hiding in the trees, looking down. They could see Trainers and Pokémon walking along each other.
"Tee-hee! Just look at all those Pokémon. It'll be a crying shame when we steal them all," Meowth said.
"Oh, they're going to be crying when we take them all," James said.
"And the best part is, we're the first ones here for a change," Jessie said.
"Yeah, no twerps, and no problems for us for once," Meowth said.
"Let's just hope it's more than once," James said. Just then, a Koffing bumps James on the head.
"Koffing!" Koffing said.
"Koffing, what are you doing out of your Pokéball?" Jessie asked.
"Hold on, Jess! I don't think that's James's Koffing!" Meowth said. James looked at the Koffing floating above them.
"He's right, Jessie. My Koffing is right here," James said.
"Look, another one," Jessie said as another Koffing floats by. A whole bunch of Koffing floats upwards. Most of them were purple while there were three Shiny Koffing with them. "A whole bunch of Koffing."
"Looks like my Koffing's kind of crowd!" James said, letting his Koffing out.
"Koffing!" James's Koffing said. Just then, the other Koffing started to ram right into him. "Koff?! Koffing, Koff, ing, ing, Koffing, Koffing!" James Koffing smacks right into James's face. "Hey, you can't do that to my Koffing and walk away!"
"Koffing, Koffing, Koffing, Koffing, Koffing, Koffing, Koffing!" The leading Koffing said.
"What did that Koffing just say, Meowth?" Jessie asked.
"That Koffing said that Koffing is a wimp, so he had no business hanging with the likes of us," Meowth translated.
"So, we got a bunch of snobs!" James said. "Koffing! Use Sludge!" All of the Koffing sent waves of purple sludge towards Team Rocket, sending them flying.
"We got wiped out by their Sludge Wave!" Jessie said.
"How dare those Koffing just attack my Koffing and call him a wimp right in front of me!" James hissed. "I won't forgive this!"
"Maybe we can worry about that after we land!" Meowth said.
"We're blasting off again!" Team Rocket shouted as a star twinkled in the distance.
Over to Sora, Kairi, Kari, Pikachu, and Angel, they made it to the park, but at a different place than Team Rocket were in that time.
Upon arriving, Kari bumps into a boy with blonde hair and light skin, and blue eyes. He wore a beige bucket hat. He also wore a yellow and teal long-sleeved shirt with a high collar, a pair of teal shorts, dark purple socks, and green boots with grey soles.
"Hey, Kari," the boy greeted.
"Hi," TK. Are the others here, too?" Kari asked.
"They got there before I did," TK said. He looked at the two additional kids. "Who're they?"
"Meet Sora and Kairi. I met them at the Pokémon Center," Kari said. She turned to TK. "Sora, Kairi, meet TK Takaishi." This struck a cord with Kairi.
"Wait, did you say Takaishi?" Kairi asked.
"Yeah, I did," Kari said.
"Would you by any chance be related to Nancy Takaishi, the newspaper reporter?" Kairi asked.
"Yeah, she's my mom," TK said. "You interested in her?"
"How do you know about his mom, Kairi?" Sora asked.
"My dad is always reading her articles every morning at breakfast," Kairi said.
"Is that right? My mom would be flattered to hear that, if she wasn't out of town, looking into Team Rocket's activities in Celadon City and Lavender Town," TK said.
"Actually, I just saw her a little while before meeting Sora and Kairi," Kari said. "She told me to tell you that she's going to be late coming home."
"Right," TK said.
In the Odaiba City newspaper building, a woman is seen walking in, wearing a light green turtleneck, over a red-violet jacket. She wore a black, long skirt, and dark brown boots. She's carrying a tan purse. She has light skin, dark blonde hair, and blue eyes. She sat down on her desk and took out the notes from her purse.
"Let's see, according to witnesses, two Pokémon Trainers, a boy and a girl, were both seen entering the Rocket Game Corner, the rumored Team Rocket hangout, and the same two Trainers were seen exiting the Pokémon Tower soon after," the woman said in her thoughts.
(Flashback)
The woman knocked on the door, and Reina answered it.
"Yes?" Reina asked after answering the door.
"Hello, I was wondering if I could speak with the owner of the Pokémon House, please?" The woman asked.
"Um, sure. Mr. Fuji is tending some Pokémon at the moment. Would you like to come in, miss?" Reina asked. Reina sees Mr. Fuji feeding a bowl of Pokémon food to
"Thank you," the woman said as she stepped inside. She smiled when she saw how many people were playing with the Pokémon. "Are you one of the volunteers here?"
"I am," Reina said. "Believe it or not, this is actually Mr. Fuji's house. He altered it to tend to the needs of the Pokémon that comes here. The Pokémon here are either abandoned or orphaned."
"I think it's a good thing you're doing for all these Pokémon," the woman said. Reina sees him feeding a teal Pokémon with a cream spot on its chest. Its round head is teal in the top half and cream on the bottom half. It has big, round eyes and large pointy ears. It has five-fingered hands and cream feet with three clawed toes. The bottom fur seems to resemble a dress. This Pokémon is Munchlax. It eats the food happily.
"Eat as much as you like, Munchlax," Mr. Fuji said, kindly. He smiled, seeing Munchlax enjoying the food.
"Excuse me, Mr. Fuji," Reina said. Mr. Fuji turned to see Reina and the woman.
"Yes, Reina?" Mr. Fuji asked.
"This lady said she came to have a word with you," Reina said.
"I'm Nancy Takaishi. We spoke over the phone the other day," Nancy said.
"Oh, yes. I believe you said you were going to interview me about being held captive by Team Rocket," Mr. Fuji said.
"That's the one," Nancy said.
"Reina, would you excuse me, please?" Mr. Fuji asked.
"Of course," Reina said, taking her leave. Nancy took out a notepad and a pencil.
"Mr. Fuji, it's my understanding that you went into the Pokémon Tower to persuade Team Rocket to leave the Pokémon Tower," Nancy said.
"Indeed I did. The Pokémon Tower is a place for people to pay their respects to deceased Pokémon, and they had no right to use it however they wished. When they refused, they took me as their hostage. I did not know what they were going to do after they have completely taken over. There I stayed until two young Pokémon Trainers, along with Reina have come and driven out Team Rocket," Mr. Fuji explained.
"Did these two Pokémon Trainers have a Pikachu and an Eevee by any chance?" Nancy asked.
"Yes, they did. I can never thank them enough for their selfless act," Mr. Fuji said. "Why do you ask?"
"I interviewed some people who were present at the Rocket Game Corner at the time, and they said they saw the two Trainers you have described to me," Nancy said. Mr. Fuji knew who she was talking about.
"I see," Mr. Fuji said.
"While you were in Team Rocket's hold, did you overhear something else?" Nancy asked.
"Not that I am aware of; except for the ghost that haunted the Pokémon Tower for a short time Team Rocket has arrived. And that was about it. I'm sorry I couldn't be helpful about it, Ms. Takaishi," Mr. Fuji said.
"No need to apologize, Mr. Fuji. I think I got what I need," Nancy said with a smile.

Nancy sat at her desk, thinking about the interview.
"The two kids who stood up to Team Rocket. I wonder who they are," Nancy said in her thoughts.
Back in the park, Sora, Kairi, TK, and Kari have met up with nine other kids in the park.
One was a boy with light skin, his blonde hair combed down and he had blue eyes. He wore a black short-sleeved button-up shirt, wine-colored pants, and cream slip-on shoes.
One was a lightly tanned girl with her orange hair combed to the right and with Maroon eyes. She wore she wears a pink T-shirt with a yellow oval with light purple borders with two pointy tips and the word "circle" on the chest. She also wears a wine-colored skirt, white socks, and gray and cerulean sneakers.
Another boy had light skin and short red hair and thick eyebrows, and dark hair. He wore a short-sleeved orange shirt with horizontal lines under an open green short-sleeved collared shirt. He also wears brown shorts and purple shoes with bright purple soles and a bright purple stripe motif.
There was another girl there, and she had long wavy brown hair and brown eyes. She wore a large cowgirl hat with a white drawstring. She wore a red midriff-baring tank top with yellow and white stripes, a brown string necklace with a golden pendant, light blue jeans held up by a brown belt with a golden buckle and white shoes with brown soles.
There was another boy who seems to be the oldest of the group he had dark blue hair that grew to chin length and dark eyes. He wore small oval glasses with silver frames. He wore a dark blue short-sleeved button-up shirt with black pocket linings, cream pants, and brown sneakers with cream soles and laces.
Another was a boy with tanned skin, frizzy burgundy hair, and dark brown eyes. He wore a pair of goggles on his head. His goggles were oval-shaped. He wore a blue short-sleeved open vest over a dark blue shirt with long sleeves, a thick white stripe across the chest, and thin yellow stripes over and under it. He also wore dark brown shorts, dark blue socks, and orange and white boots.
There was another girl and she had straight long purple hair and brown eyes. She also wore a pair of large round glasses. She also wore a pink short-sleeved overshirt over a red dress, dark blue shorts, dark blue socks, and pink slip-on shoes with white soles. She also wore a blue bandana on her head.
There was a small boy who appears to be the youngest in the group. He had light-colored skin and a bowl-cut haircut and green eyes. He wore a purple turtleneck sweater, grey pants, black socks, and brown and white slip-on shoes.
And there was one more boy and he had pale skin and had blue hair a little long reaching his shoulders. He even wore a gray uniform, both his shirt and pants. And he wore black shoes.
"Hey, Kari. Glad you made it," the boy with the goggles said.
"You know, I'm here, too, Davis," TK said.
"Didn't even notice you, TZ," Davis said.
"It's TK," TK annoyingly corrected him.
"Whatever, TE," Davis said.
"Oh, shut up for once in your life, goggle-head," the girl with the purple hair said. She noticed Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel with them. "Who are they?"
"Kari brought them here. Meet Sora and Kairi," TK said.
"Hi," Sora greeted.
"Hello," Kairi added.
"Pika," Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"So, another Sora, huh?" Davis asked.
"Another Sora? What do you mean?" Sora asked.
"He's talking about me. My name's Sora Takenouchi," Sora said.
"My name's Matt Ishida. I'm TK's older brother," Matt said.
"My name is Izzy Izumi," Izzy introduced.
"I'm Joe Kido," Joe introduced.
"I'm Mimi Tachikawa," Mimi introduced.
"I'm Yolei Inoue," Yolei introduced herself.
"I'm Cody Hida," Cody introduced.
"My name's Ken ichijouji," Ken introduced.
"Davis Motomiya. But you can call me Davis," Davis introduced himself.
"I don't think that's gonna be hard," Sora said. "Right, Pikachu?"
"Pikachu," Pikachu agreed.
"Just so we don't have any confusion, why don't we call you Sora 2," Yolei suggested.
"Sora 2?" Sora asked.
"It's okay, Sora. I know the difference," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"I appreciate it, Kairi," Sora said with a smile.
"So that we have the introductions out of the way, is Tai here yet?" Kari asked.
"No. We're just waiting on him," Matt said.
Just then, the boy who passed by Sora and Kairi earlier came on the scene.
"Sorry to be late," the boy said. Everyone turned to see Tai coming.
"It's about time, Tai," Sora T said. "We were close to calling in a search party."
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Sora. My mom wouldn't let me leave just yet," Tai said. He spots the two extra kids and the Pokémon with them. "New kids on the block?"
"Sora 2 and Kairi," TK said.
"It's Sora Ketchum, actually," Sora said.
"Okay, Sora Ketchum. You two are Pokémon Trainers, aren't you?" Tai asked.
"Yeah, we are," Sora said.
"And if you are, then you wouldn't mind having a battle against me, right?" Tai asked, taking out a Pokéball in his hand.
"Me?" Sora asked.
"Yes, you," Tai said. "What do you say?"
"Um, sure," Sora said. "Okay, I accept."
The two of them got in a position to have their battle.
"Let's make it a one-on-one match," Tai said.
"I'm game, Tai," Sora said.
"Glad to hear it, Ketchum," Tai said. "Okay, Flame! Go!" He threw it and out came a Charmeleon. It has an orange wristband on its right wrist. Sora took out his Pokédex and scanned it.

The evolved form of Charmander
Type: Fire
In the rocky mountains where Charmeleon live, their fiery tails shine at night like stars.
"I think I'll fight fire with fire," Sora said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Charmander!" His Pokéball opened and Charmander emerged from inside.
"Char, Char," Charmander said.
"A Charmander against Flame, huh? You look like you took care of it," Tai said.
"Thanks. Okay, Charmander! Start things up with Scratch!" Sora ordered. Charmander came right at Flame with Scratch.
"Dodge and use Dragon Claw!" Tai ordered. Flame dodged its hands become surrounded in a light green, claw-shaped energy. It then strikes Charmander with them. Charmander fell on his back. "Great! Dragon Claw again!" The Charmeleon came running towards Charmander with another Dragon Claw. Charmander fell right on his back.
"Flame is putting the beat down on Charmander!" Davis said.
"Charmander is at a disadvantage battling its evolved form," Ken said.
"You can do it, Sora," Kairi said.
Charmander stands back on his feet.
"Charmander! Dragon Rage!" Sora ordered. Charmander fired Dragon Rage at Flame, landing a hit. "Use Fire Fang!" Charmander came right at Flame with Fire Fang.
"Use Mega Punch!" Tai ordered. Flame lands a Mega Punch on Charmander. "Use Flamethrower!" Flame fired Flamethrower right at Charmander, landing a hit. "Use Mega Punch again!"
"Dodge and use Flamethrower!" Sora ordered. Charmander dodged and fired Flamethrower at Flame.
"Flamethrower!" Tai ordered.
Flame unleashed Flamethrower and they hold on until an explosion occurs between the two of them.
Unknown to anyone, the battle was drawing in quite a crowd. Among the crowd are two people out on a walk. One of them is a man with the appearance of Tai, except his brown hair is short. He wore an olive green shirt and blue jeans, and brown shoes. The other is a woman that resembles Kari to a demeanor. She has her hair long and in a low ponytail. She wore a blue-white striped shirt and a dark blue skirt.
"Looks like Tai's in a battle with that kid," the man said.
"And they're going neck-to-neck," the woman said. "Tai, Flame, take them down!"
"Flame! Use Dragon Claw!" Tai ordered.
"Dodge and use Dragon Rage!" Sora ordered.
Flame missed when Charmander dodged and fired Dragon Rage, landing a hit onto his evolved form. "Use Scratch!" Charmander came at Flame and scratched it repeatedly.
"Use Mega Punch!" Tai ordered. Flame lands a Mega Punch on Charmander. "Use Slash!" Flame slashed across Charmander. The flame at Charmander's tail starts to burn fiercely. Charmander's body starts to glows with a red aura.
"Why is that Charmander glowing like a red Christmas light?" Davis asked.
"It's Charmander's ability, Blaze," Izzy said.
"Blaze?" Davis asked.
"Blaze is an ability that certain Fire-type Pokémon like Charmander and Charmeleon have," Cody said. "It boosts up the powers of Fire-type Pokémon when their stamina is low."
"Charmander! Fire Fang!" Sora ordered. Charmander came right at Flame with Fire Fang, but it was so much stronger than normal. Charmander lands a successful hit.
Flame's body gave off the same red aura and its tail burned just as fiercely as Charmander's.
"Flame!" Tai called out.
"Charmander!" Sora called out.
"Flamethrower!" Sora and Tai ordered. Charmander and Flame unleashed right at the same time and they collided with each other. An explosion occurs between them. Both Charmander and his evolved form took some heavy damage. The smoke cleared to see Charmander and Flame were both knocked out. The battle ends in a draw.
"Flame!" Tai exclaimed.
"Charmander!" Sora called out.
Both Trainers ran towards their Pokémon and picked them up.
"You doing okay," Flame?" Tai asked.
"Charmeleon," Flame said weakly.
"You were awesome, Flame," Tai said. "You always will be to me." This made Flame smile.
"You did great, Charmander," Sora said.
"Char," Charmander said.
"You'd do fine in your next battle," Sora said. Kari walked up to Sora and Charmander.
"You don't mind if I pet your Charmander, do you?" Kari asked.
"I don't mind, Kari. Go ahead," Sora said. Kari starts to pet Charmander. She smiled.
"You remind me a lot of Flame when he was a Charmander," Kari said.
"Mander," Charmander said.
"You're just as cute as Flame as a Charmander. Especially with those adorable little eyes of yours," Kari cooed.
"Charmander, Char," Charmander said.
Joe has treated both Pokémon for their injuries.
"There. That should do it," Joe said after he was done. "You should give your Pokémon a good rest for the night just to recover their strength."
"We'll be sure to do that," Sora said.
A few seconds later, Pikachu and Angel's ears perked right up.
"Vee!" Angel said.
"Pika!" Pikachu said.
"Angel, what's wrong? What do you hear?" Kairi asked.
"Eevee!" Angel said, pointing forward.
Kairi looked up and saw the Koffing coming right towards them.
"What in the world?! Are those Koffing?!" Kairi exclaimed in shock.
"Yeah. They've been a huge problem for the city!" Davis said.
"And they're going to be a problem for us all!" Cody said.
The Koffing all charged right at the group.
"Pikachu! Thunderbolt!" Sora ordered.
"Angel! Use Swift!" Kairi ordered.
Pikachu fired Thunderbolt as Angel fired Swift at the Poison Gas Pokémon. Many of them were shocked while others were struck by the stars. Tai took out a black ball with a yellow stripe. It has a black and yellow top, often with the yellow forming an "H" on the top of the ball. Like most other Balls, it has a white bottom area. This type of Pokéball is an Ultra Ball.
"Drake! Go!" Tai called out. His Ultra Ball opened and out came a Dragoniar. "Use Dragon Pulse!" Drake forms a ball of multicolored energy in front of its main stinger or its two-side stingers and fires a multicolored dragon-shaped beam of energy from it or them at the attacking Koffing, hitting them. The leading Koffing charged at Pikachu and Angel, landing a hit. The leading Koffing then fired a Sludge Wave in the face, poisoning Drake. "Drake, no!"
"Pikachu! Thunderbolt Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Pikachu tackled into the leading Koffing, landing a hit. The leading Koffing charged right at Pikachu again. "Use Iron Tail!" Pikachu swings his tail, hitting the leading Koffing. Pikachu then forms a ball of electricity and then hurls it right at the leading Koffing, landing another hit. The leading Koffing wasn't done yet. The Koffing fired a Sludge Bomb at them.
"He's using Sludge Bomb!" Kairi gasped.
"Dodge and use Thunderbolt!" Sora ordered. Pikachu lands a Thunderbolt on the leading Koffing. He fell on his back, beaten. Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it. Koffing flows inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Sora's Pokémon Box goes off asking him if he wants to keep Koffing with him. He chose to send Koffing to Professor Oak's lab. The other Koffing saw their leader being caught and they started to retreat. They float right out of the city, feeling lost without their leader.
The people watching were when they witnessed Sora making the catch.
"Wow, that kid is good," the man said.
"I'll say he is," the woman said.
"That was a great catch, Sora 2," Matt said.
"Um, thanks," Sora said.
"You think we're still gonna have a problem with those Koffing?" Mimi asked.
"I doubt it. Judging by how they took off, with their leader gone, they see no point in staying here any longer. Also, they'll be lost and confused with their leader," Izzy said.
"Good riddance to them anyway," Yolei said. She turned to So "Just why did you catch their leader?"
"I figured he would be a good addition to the team. I also saw how he wasn't willing to stay down, so I went for it," Sora explained.
"That makes sense," Sora T said.
"Now that the Koffing are gone, where are they going to go?" Kari asked.
"Who knows?" Izzy asked.
Over to the Koffing, they floated throughout the Kanto region's skies and they came across an abandoned building and made themselves at home there. They began their new life in their new home.
