Chapter One-hundred and nineteen: Reunion
After they had a... particularly interesting... night camping out somewhere in the middle of Unovan Route 5 between Nimbasa City and the Driftveil Drawbridge, Dawn, Kenny, and Trip were making their way through the rest of the route in order to reach the aforementioned bridge, where they would cross in order to get to Driftveil City, the location of their next gym challenge as well as getting them one step closer to catching up with Ash Ketchum and his group. For Dawn and Kenny it'll be a reunion with an old friend, and for Trip it'll be the first time he meets the person he idolizes in person. There's also getting to meet Ash's current companions, those being Cilan, Iris, and apparently Bianca.
"Sweetness!" Kenny cheered as he pumped a fist into the air when he and the other reborn trainers saw the Driftveil Drawbridge in the distance, "That must be the bridge!" Trying to pick up the pace, Kenny said, "All we have to do is cross it and-"
Kenny was cut off from moving forward when Dawn, noticing something up ahead, held an arm out to cut off Kenny's advancement. Looking on up ahead, the boys saw what had gotten Dawn's attention; there were a crowd of persons all crowded around the point of Driftveil Drawbridge that Unovan Route 5 ended at. Getting closer, Dawn and the boys saw it that a group of workers were trying to keep anyone from crossing the bridge. "...What in the name of Odin is going on..." Dawn said as she moved up to see the workers, getting Kenny and Trip to follow her.
Upon seeing the reborn trainers come up to him and his fellows, the first worker said, "Sorry kids, but we can't allow anyone to pass over the bridge into Driftveil City."
"And why is that?" Dawn asked, "Is the bridge out or something?"
"No, but there IS a valid safety reason," replied the second worker, "Suspicious looking persons wearing matching outfits were seen sneaking around Driftveil City. It's obviously a sign that Team Scorn is going to cause trouble in Driftveil City, so we can't let anyone in until we get reports confirming that the issue's been resolved."
"Team Scorn activity?" Dawn said, "Well that's all the more reason for us to head in. You see, my group here and I-"
Dawn was cut off when the third worker crinckled his nose as he swore, "Geez, where is that sudden smell coming from?" A few other persons in the area also crinkled their noses out of disgust. As everyone was looking around, it was Trip who spotted the source of the smell; a wild Trubbish was wandering up to the group of humans at the Unovan Route 5 end of Driftveil Drawbridge. It gave a friendly cry that made it clear the Trubbish had no hostile intent, and probably was only hoping that one of the humans might give it some food.
A teen girl said, "Eew, it's a Trubbish! Go away, you gross little-"
"Alright, Tsunade," Trip said as he sent out his named (east sea) Gastrodon, "Let's rock it!"
As the other persons saw Trip's Gastrodon getting ready to challenge the Trubbish, the same teen girl said, "Oh, good idea kid! We should beat the Trubbish up so that it'll leave us alone!"
"I... was actually planning to battle the Trubbish to weaken it enough so that I can capture it," Trip explained, "I actually kind of wanna catch a Trubbish."
"You're gonna catch some gross little weird Pokémon like Trubbish?!" the teen girl exclaimed.
Shrugging, Trip said, "There's all kinds of Pokémon in the world, so don't get your-"
Cutting Trip off, one teen boy in the crowd said, "Umm, your Gastrodon and the Trubbish are chatting amicably right now." Trip as well as everyone else on scene turned their attention to the 'battle', which was now just two Pokémon conversing sociably with one another. Sensing that the humans have stopped talking, Tsunade the Gastrodon turned around and, spotting Trip, said something in Pokémon-talk before jerking her head at the wild Trubbish and then giving a casual nod.
"...I think Tsunade had talked the Trubbish into willingly joining you," Dawn remarked. Looking over, Trip saw the Trubbish nod in agreement; shrugging, Trip took out a spare pokéball, expanded it, then tossed it at the Trubbish. It went into the pokéball before it fell lightly to the ground, where it shook for a few moments before it made a ping sound, indicating capture.
Trip then picked up the pokéball that held his newly caught Trubbish and scanned it with his pokédex. "...Huh, it's a boy," Trip said, then added while smirking in some form of self-amusement, "I think I'll name him Tinkerbell."
"Tinkerbell?" Kenny said questioningly.
As the pokéball containing the now dubbed Tinkerbell went to where Trip's Pokémon are kept, Trip explained, "It'll weird out opponents when I use Tinkerbell's name but then see what he actually is. That'll go double for after he evolves into a Garbordor."
"As... nice as that is," the first worker said, getting everyone else to turn back to look at him, "We still can't let anyone pass over the bridge into Driftveil City until we're sure the sighted persons of concern have been dealt with."
Pointing to the waters under the bridge, Kenny said, "Fine, all of us will swim across."
"We're not swimming that far, Kenny," Dawn said flatly. Turning to look at her sister-brother, Dawn said, "Hey Trip, mind giving me and Kenny a lift?"
Getting around the workers not letting them cross Driftveil Drawbridge, Trip simply called out Deelia, got on with Dawn and Kenny following behind him, then had Deelia take off into the air. Being a deity-level legendary Pokémon had its perks, it would seem. The workers began to object, but soon settled down considering someone who had friggin' Dialga was going in to confront the possible criminals; there was no way criminals would last long against such opposition.
Within short order, the reborn trainers landed in Driftveil City, landing right outside of the local Pokémon Center. They got off of Deelia who Trip recalled, then they all made their way into the Pokémon Center. After they had been able to rest their respective on hand teams, Dawn and the boys got to doing some party rotations in order to better help them against the Driftveil City gym, who Trip got (i.e. pointed out) was Clay, who uses ground type Pokémon.
Dawn only made two changes to her on hand line up; keeping Chi-Chi, Akiza, Leni, and Zancrow but rotating out Shadow and Germany for Fena and Tsukune, the former because she hadn't seen action in a while, and the latter because Dawn was actually a bit self-conscious about having to bum a ride off of Trip. Dawn kept Zancrow on hand because she's still training him, Leni and Akiza because they're helping with Zancrow's training plus Akiza would be helpful against Clay. Chi-Chi stayed because Dawn did have some sentimental attachment, also it helped that Dawn remembered from the anime in her previous life that two Pokémon that Clay had used also had some weaknesses that Chi-Chi could exploit with her varied moveset, despite how being part fire type with no mitigating secondary typing meant Chi-Chi could take a few hits in Dawn's challenge to Clay (if she chose to use the named Infernape, that is).
Trip rotated his party around so that he kept Deelia, Veda, David, and Tsunade, but rotated in Myde and Bashir. That was also the first time Dawn and Kenny saw the named shiny Tangrowth that Trip said that he had a while ago. As for Kenny, although he kept Giyu and Moista Fista on hand, he knew that his 'group of little buddies' weren't up to snuff for a serious gym battle, so he regretfully rotated them out to rotate in Roshi, Black (Kenny also felt bad about having to bum a ride off of Trip), Priestess, and because the fancy to do so had struck Kenny for some odd reason that not even he could explain, Elay. With their parties now ready, the reborn trainers took off to go look into issuing challenges to Clay's gym.
...
To the disappointment of the reborn trainers, a receptionist told them that Clay was currently refusing all challenges on the grounds that there was a vein underground that he was searching for. Annoyed that they couldn't challenge the gym leader right away, the reborn trainers decided to take off for the market area in Driftveil City instead. "Search for a vein my foot," Trip muttered, "I bet he's busy acting like a stereotypical rich Texan businessman. He's got the look for it."
Dawn, who was examining a shotglass made of pewter, looked over and said, "Did you say something, Trip?"
"It's nothing, Dawn," Trip replied, "I'm just annoyed that-"
Trip got cut off when he and the others heard a few people screaming in panic, then saw a few people flee from one odd direction. "Hey hey hey," Kenny said as he got a panicked middle aged woman to stop, "What's the sitch here?"
Pointing in the direction that she and the other panicked persons are fleeing from, the middle aged woman said, "Two members of Team Scorn are causing havoc in a giant mech robot they're piloting! Granted, both of them are wearing weird outfits that in no way match what Team Scorn members are known to wear, especially since both outfits lack any yellow and dark blue, but they're still causing trouble, especially since they're brazenly trying to steal Pokémon from other people!"
"...Can you describe their outfits, ma'am?" Dawn asked, a sinking suspicion as to who said (supposed) Team Scorn members were.
Nodding once, the middle aged woman said, "One's a girl with long red hair in a curve, one's a guy with chin length bluish hair, and they're wearing white outfits with black long gloves and boots, also both of their shirts have large red R's on them!"
"That's not Team Scorn," Kenny said, realizing who the middle aged woman was talking about, "That's-"
Kenny was cut off when Elay came out of his pokéball on his own, cried out, "SANDSLASH SLASH!", then proceeded to run off in the direction that most everyone else was fleeing from.
Chuckling a bit, Kenny said, "You think we should back Elay up, bros?"
Dawn took out the Master Ball that held Tsukune, wore a serious look on her face. "...I've got some grievances that I'd like to air, yeah."
"MUHAHAHAHAHA! Your Pokémon will be coming with us, twerps!"
"There's no way we'll let you get away with this, Team Rocket!"
Ash Ketchum, with Pikachu on his right shoulder and a female Jellicent floating before him, stood looking at the Team Rocket controlled mech before him. Standing with Ash were Cilan commanding a Crustle, Iris commanding her Excadrill, and Bianca commanding her Pignite. In the mech before the heroes, Jessie, James, and Meowth of Team Rocket could be seen through a large circular dome window while a giant hose that was attached to the tank below the cockpit was coiling around like a sinister serpent like Pokémon.
"Ash, we need to get our Pokémon that Team Rocket took out from the tank of their mech," Bianca said, clearly worried.
"I know," Ash replied, "We just have to hit them with everything we got and bust the tank open to free all of our taken Pokémon!"
"Like you twerps have the firepower to bust our mech up any!" Meowth taunted, "We'll be beating you all down, take all of your remaining Pokémon, and then make a clean getaway!"
"This does give us something to do between our current objective and having to deal with those troublemakers in Team Scorn who keep showing up," James remarked casually, "I have no doubt that the boss will be pleased to hear that Jessie, Meowth, and I scored a little bonus on the side while on our current objective!"
Clapping her hands together before raising one up into the air, Jessie clenched said raised hand into a fist as she cheered, "We're on the road to success here, and there is nothing that can possibly-"
"Sandslash slash Sandslash?"
Suddenly, Team Rocket all froze in place, looks of shocked, dawning horror on all of their faces as they heard something speak up from behind them in the cockpit of their mech. Ash and his friends heard it as well as it was on speaker from the mech, but while Ash's friends had no idea what was going on, Ash himself looked as if his memories were being stirred. In their mech's cockpit, Team Rocket, their shocked expressions making them look like characters from Jojo's, slowly turned their heads, somewhat jerkily as if they were robots, to see who it was that had gotten into their mech's cockpit with them.
To their heightened horror, it was a shiny Sandslash, its eyes going in different directions. When Team Rocket looked upon it, the shiny Sandslash made a tongue clicking sound, making all of them scramble back. "Oh no!" James cried out as he pointed a finger at the shiny Sandslash, "No, no, no, no, NO! You are NOT here! There is no way that you CAN be here!"
"Sandslash slash Sandslash Sand Sandslash?"
"We do not know the way and we are NOT your brothers!" Meowth yelled, "Now go a-"
*HACPTOOT*
"Why did he spit in MY eye?!" Jessie yelled, "I didn't say anything to him!" Suddenly, outside of the mech, Ash and his group saw a latch door open, only for Jessie (who had one eye winced closed) and James to pop out while holding a red spiky Pokémon and throw it to the ground before quickly closing the latch door behind them.
"That's a shiny Sandslash!" Cilan cried out in surprise as he recognized the shiny Sandslash, "Why would Team Rocket throw away a shiny Pokémon like that? They're incredibly rare!"
Ash, upon seeing the shiny Sandslash, suddenly realized something. "Oh!" Ash called out, "I recognize that shiny Sandslash! If he's here, then that must mean-"
"Tsukune, go free the captured Pokémon in that mech!"
"Black, go back Tsukune up!"
"Deelia, go back the others up!"
Ash and his group suddenly felt three very large somethings rush overhead. After regaining their bearings as they all heard and felt a few somethings land before them, it was Ash who first saw it that Team Rocket's mech was now surrounded by, of all things, the legendary Pokémon Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina in its Origin Form. The three legendary dragons roared angrily at Team Rocket as they began to tear at the mech to free the captured Pokémon inside. It truly was a sight to behold for Ash and his group, Iris especially as she was having a fangirl freakout over seeing three awesome dragon Pokémon ravage Team Rocket's mech.
As Ash's group watched what was going on, Ash heard a familiar female voice call out to him. "Hey Ash! Need a hand?" Turning around, Ash and his group saw it as Dawn, Kenny, and Trip all came running up to them.
"Dawn!" Ash exclaimed in surprise, "Kenny! A new friend of Dawn's and Kenny's I'm guessing! Boy, am I glad to see you guys again!"
"We can get down to reuniting later," Dawn said, "For now, I think we got a Team Rocket scheme to bust!"
"Hey Dawn, let Trip take this one," Kenny said, "He hasn't trounced Team Rocket yet."
Acting before Dawn could technically say so, Trip said, "Deelia, use Flash Cannon to tear a hole in the tank, then tear the hole open manually!" Doing so, the named Dialga used Flash Cannon to tear a line in the tank's side, cutting it like a laser. Then it used its front feet to rip the tear open wide, releasing a Pansage, Stunfisk, Axew, Emolga, Shelmet, Minccino, Tranquil, Palpitoad, Servine, and Scrafty. The freed Pokémon then all ran back to Ash and his group, which had just gotten three additional members just now.
Smirking, Kenny then said, "Hey Trip, wanna send those jerks packing?"
"...I think I have an idea on how to do so," Trip replied. Turning to face forward, Trip said, "Deelia, use Roar of Time on the mech!"
Deelia threw its head back as it charged up its Roar of Time attack, before firing the destructively powerful attack at Team Rocking, blasting their mech and sending them flying off with a trail of smoke left in their wake as they cried out, "Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!"
After Team Rocket disappeared as a twinkle in the horizon, the reborn trainers recalled their legendary dragons, as well as Kenny recalling Elay. "Not bad for your first time, Trip," Kenny remarked, "Sending those Team Rocket jokers 'blasting off again' as they put it is something of a rite of passage."
"It would have been nice if we instead captured them and turned them over to the authorities," Dawn said, "Or did you forget how they pulled a fast one on Bertha back in Sinnoh so that they could get away with-"
"HolycrudwheredidyougetsuchawesomedragonPokémon?!" Iris exclaimed excitedly, speaking a mile a minute as she ran up to Dawn and the boys and began jumping up and down in excitement.
Walking up to Iris, Cilan put a hand on her shoulder to get her to settle down. "Iris, calm down and let them explain themselves," Cilan said, "Also." Turning to face Ash, Cilan said, "You know these guys, Ash?"
Smirking a bit in amusement, Ash said, "Yeah, I know Dawn and Kenny at least." Turning to look at Dawn and Kenny, Ash gave them a warm, friendly smile. "It's great to see you guys again."
...
Since the situation with the Driftveil City gym hasn't cleared up yet, all of the heroes found an area to set up a picnic site. There, they let all of their Pokémon relax, although some of the Pokémon not belonging to the reborn trainers were a bit in awe upon seeing Tsukune, Black, and Deelia. Meanwhile, Cilan and Kenny got food for everyone ready while Dawn and Trip chatted with Ash, Iris, and Bianca. Dawn had caught Ash up with what all she and Kenny had done since they had last saw him over in the Kanto region.
Their own adventures through Kanto, their adventures through Johto where they first ran into Team Scorn, their adventures in Hoenn, the brief stop home in Sinnoh where they gained Trip as a companion, and their journey through Unova up until they met back up with Ash. Dawn, plus Trip when he was able to join in, did leave out a few details though, mostly some of Team Scorn's more violent and... permanent... actions. Dawn ended the story with how she, Kenny, and Trip ran after Kenny's shiny Sandslash when he got out and dashed off somewhere, which turned out to be were Ash and his group were being harassed by Team Rocket.
In turn, Ash caught Dawn and Trip up with what all he's done since arriving in Unova. As it turned out, Ash in addition to making some catches that Dawn never remembered Ash in the anime in her previous life making, also hadn't lost a single battle since arriving in Unova. "...The only battle I didn't win was when I confronted the Team Scorn officer who killed Bianca's dad," Ash said grimly, "And that was because the coward took off when I suddenly collapsed from a headache. I don't mean to come off as boastful, but I got a feeling I would have won that battle otherwise."
"I'm guessing that the headache occurred around when Team Scorn in Sinnoh captured Azelf for their plans to summon Dialga," Dawn said, "I got a similar headache when they took Mesprite."
Ash nodded in agreement. "The headache I had was similar to the one I got when Team Galactic was in the business of going after the Lake Guardians in Sinnoh, yeah." Turning to face Trip, Ash went on, "So you caught Dialga instead, huh?"
"And are you REALLY serious when you say you're a fan of Ash's?" Iris asked, sounding skeptical.
"Hey, he's done a lot of showings in league conferences," Trip defended, "And I have to admit that he's very impressive. It bites that he didn't win any of them, though."
Smiling out of a sense of appreciation, Ash replied, "Well it's nice to have another person in my corner. And the league conference here in Unova better watch out, because I'm going to finally score my league conference win here!"
"Not if I beat you to it, Ash!" Kenny said from over where he and Cilan were preparing the food.
"And as much as I respect you, I'm also aiming to win there," Trip remarked to Ash, "That being said, if you and I do meet each other in battle in the league conference here in Unova, I'm going to make you work hard for it if you wanna win, because I won't be sandbagging you."
The Kanto region native smirked in amusement. "I wouldn't have it any other way, Trip."
"You have your work cut out for you, Ash," Dawn said, "Trip has proven he can stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the strongest trainers that I know." Turning to look at where everyone's Pokémon were relaxing, Dawn added, "But I'd say you're no slouch as well." Aside from Pikachu who was always with Ash, Dawn saw that Ash's other on hand Pokémon consisted of Tranquil, Servine, Palpitoad, Scrafty, and a female Jellicent; Tranquil and Palpitoad were expected, but Servine, Scrafty, and especially Jellicent were unexpected. At least Servine and Scrafty could be explained, as they're evolved forms of Pokémon from the Unova anime in Dawn's previous life that Ash got. The Jellicent? Well there was that one episode where in one part Ash was bothered by a female Frillish; maybe he caught it here?
Turning back to look at Ash, Dawn said, "You're keeping up with training your Pokémon, I see. That's always good."
Ash nodded once in acknowledgement. "Well of course I always make sure to train my Pokémon." A hint of seriousness entered Ash's expression. "...Challenging gyms and fighting off Team Rocket aside, there's also Team Scorn to worry about now. Cilan, Iris, and Bianca have dealt with them a lot here in Unova so far, and we saw a lot of our Pokémon grow stronger and evolve as a result of all of those battles."
"Hopefully we can do some regular training as we journey through Unova," Trip said, "Umm... provided that you don't mind Dawn, Kenny, and I imposing on you guys."
"Are you kidding?" Bianca said, "We've got Team Scorn running around Unova to deal with! Not to mention those Team Rocket jokers! As far as I'm concerned, you three totally ought to join us!"
Ash nodded in agreement. "Yeah, safety in numbers and all of that good business." Within short order, the food was ready, and all of the heroes sat down to eat. Cilan's cooking was a treat for the reborn trainers, and Ash, Cilan, Iris, and Bianca got to enjoy Kenny's cook out curry. The combined seven of them had something of a little banquet to celebrate the joining of their two groups into one, their solidified alliance against the evil teams plaguing Unova a stronger force than ever before. It would take a lot to keep the heroes occupied for very long, but even if wild legendary Pokémon suddenly started going on a rampage, the heroes would stand united.
All seven of them.
END, CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND NINETEEN
Author's notes;
Wahbam! The reborn trainers FINALLY catch up to Ash in Unova in this chapter! It's been ages since Ash had been seen, and a part of me is glad he's back in focus! To put things in perspective, Dawn, Kenny, and Trip meet up with Ash, Cilan, Iris, and Bianca between what would be the end of BW057 and the beginning of BW058 (meaning that Dawn and the boys arrived in Driftveil City not long after Ash's group did). I'm going to skip covering the events of BW058 and skip straight to BW059, which is the beginning of the arc involving Thundurus, Tornadus, and Landorus before Ash is able to battle Clay. The events of that arc here will play out similarly, changing to account for the extra characters; there will even be a wild Pokémon involved that originally didn't appear in those episodes of the anime, but given that the Forces of Nature are going to pop up, it's only fair if she pops up as well.
Anyway, there's also a few changes here regarding Ash; unlike in the anime, here Ash did NOT get that infamous reset, meaning he retains all of his competence and maturity, as well as some influence from Dawn and Kenny, he cultivated in Sinnoh here. Because of this, there are a number of changes, a lot of them ranging from mild to kind of big;
Point one: Ash won here a LOT more often than he did in the BW anime; to point, the only (canonical) battles between BW001 and BW057 that Ash here didn't win are the rematch with Lenora (that never happened here as Ash won on his first try against Lenora) and all battles with Trip (Trip here is a reborn trainer, so those battles never occurred). Ash also didn't win the battle with Team Scorn Admin Swordsman in Nimbasa City, but that's because Swordsman took off when Ash collapsed from a sudden headache during their battle (Ash got the headache when Team Scorn in Sinnoh took Azelf).
Point two: Ash here, in addition to bringing Pikachu, also brought Infernape and Gardevoir, and he also rotated in Swampert to help with training Palpitoad. That extra power is part of why he's seen more success than he normally would, also they helped with certain catches.
Point three: Ash, due to the above point and how he didn't suffer that drop in intelligence, successfully caught the Deerling he tried catching in BW002. Ash also caught the female Frillish that bothered him during the events of BW037, and was able to keep her.
Point four: Due to Team Scorn being a thing, Ash and his friends got a LOT more battle experience than they normally would have. Because of this, the Deerling and Frillish that Ash caught here evolved into Sawsbuck and Jellicent (the latter being seen in this chapter), also his Oshawott, Tepig, Snivy, and Scraggy that he got by this point have evolved into Dewott, Pignite, Servine, and Scrafty (the latter two being seen in this chapter); Pignite evolved earlier than in canon. Cilan's Dwebble evolving into Crustle also occurs here earlier than normal.
Anyway, there might be some more points later, but this is a general list of what all took place during Ash's romp through Unova so far prior to Dawn, Kenny, and Trip catching up to him. See you all later.
Dawn's Pokémon: (on hand) Chi-Chi (female Infernape), Zancrow (male Volcarona), Akiza (female Roserade), Leni (female Lucario), Fena (female Leafeon), Tsukune (Palkia)

Trip's Pokémon: (on hand) David (male Gliscor), Tsunade (female Gastrodon; east sea), Myde (male Empoleon), Veda (female Abomasnow), Deelia (Dialga), Bashir (male Tangrowth; shiny)
Ash's Pokémon: (on hand) Pikachu (male), Palpitoad (male), Scrafty (male), Tranquil (female), Servine (female), Jellicent (female)
