Chapter One-hundred and twenty-two: Chargestone Cave two- Electric Boogaloo
After many of them found victory over at the gym in Driftveil City, the heroes continued on their way through the Unova region; their next destination for earning badges was over in Mistralton City. This would see the heroes have to pass through Chargestone Cave which, according to Cilan who was checking a map that he had, was just up ahead. As the heroes progressed, however, they stopped short when Ash suddenly called out, "Whoa, Pikachu! Are you okay?"
The heroes all stopped short when they heard Ash call out in concern for Pikachu; it was thus that they all saw that Pikachu wasn't doing so hot. "Is Pikachu okay?" Bianca asked, clearly concerned for Ash's first Pokémon.
It was Dawn who first spotted a Joltik stuck to Pikachu's back. "There's a Joltik stuck to Pikachu's back," Dawn pointed out, "I say we-"
*FLICK*
Kenny walked up to where Pikachu was hunched over out of feeling unwell, knelt down and, with a truly powerful finger flick, flicked the Joltik off of Pikachu. After the Joltik was sent flying away, Kenny said, "I say we try to recharge Pikachu."
"Good idea, Kenny," Cilain said as he and Iris called out Stunfisk and Emolga respectively, but they were both sick and worn out as well. Realizing that things were not looking too good, the heroes all took off for the nearest Pokémon Center, in the hopes that their electric Pokémon would be taken care of.
...
A short while later, the heroes made it to a nearby Pokémon Center that they found, and all of their Pokémon were taken care of. "Oh yes, there's been a lot on instances of electricity draining recently," Nurse Joy said.
As the heroes recalled their Pokémon, Bianca tried calling Professor Juniper on her Xtransceiver, but saw that the battery was dead. While Nurse Joy fixed it after she had offered to do so, Bianca decided to use the video phone at the Pokémon Center to Make the call. "Oh, Bianca!" Professor Juniper said, "What's up?"
"I'm at a Pokémon Center near Chargestone Cave," Bianca explained, "I'm on my way to Mistralton City to earn my sixth badge."
"Oh, you got five badges so far!" Professor Juniper said, "That's wonderful! And I'm actually located close to Chargestone Cave myself right now! I'm currently in a base camp located just outside of the caves, you see. I'm studying the electric rocks here that-" Professor Juniper was cut off from talking when the video phone suddenly turned off, because the power at the Pokémon Center went kaput.
"Sweet Artemis, we're blind!" Kenny exclaimed.
Sighing, Dawn replied, "No Kenny, the power just went out."
As (most of) the heroes began to panic, one of Nurse Joy's assistants came over. "I got it that the problem's stemming from some occurrence over in Chargestone Cave," the assistant said, "I figure we can get things back on track if someone goes out there, sees what's wrong, and resolves it."
Gesturing to himself and the other heroes, Ash said, "We'll go check it out. I'm sure the seven of us can fix what's wrong, and I fail to see anything that could stop us."
Pointing at something outside the Pokémon Center door, Iris said in a somewhat worried tone, "What about a horde of Galvantulas?"
As the heroes tried staying still, Trip slowly took a wrapped melon bread out of his bag because he was hungry, being careful not to make any noises. "...No one make a move," Kenny said, "Or a sound. Their vision is movement based." Soon afterwards, the Galvantula horde all left, save for one who just sat right outside of the door, staring directly at Trip. As Trip took another bite out of his melon bread, the lone Galvantula made an excited movement before it forced the doors open and quickly got inside, making at least Iris and Bianca cry out in alarm and Dawn ready the Net Ball that held Zancrow.
Surprisingly enough, the Galvantula just stopped right before Trip and looked up at him expectantly. "...Yes?" Trip said to the Galvantula.
"Trip, make it go away," Bianca hissed, "It's a big scary-"
"VANTULA!" the Galvantula cried out upon seeing Trip take another bite from his melon bread.
Seeing Galvantula get excited upon seeing Trip eat some melon bread, Dawn was able to put two and two together. "...It's hungry and wants some of Trip's melon bread because it was able to recognize it as food since Trip's eating it."
Trip, acting on the moment, offered the rest of the melon bread to the Galvantula, who quickly snatched it up and ate all of it. When it was finished, Galvantula proceeded to rub the side of its body up against Trip's left leg, like a pet being affectionate, while looking up at Trip and crying out happily. "...Looks like Trip had just tamed a Galvantula," Ash said in amusement.
Seeing the opprotunity, Trip took out a Net Ball, expanded it, and used it on Galvantula. It went in, fell to the floor with a light clink, then shook for a bit before making a ping sound, indicating capture. "Sweetness!" Trip said, "I actually wanted to get a Galvantula!" Trip scanned the Net Ball holding his new Galvantula with his pokédex, saw that it was female. "I'll name her Metroid," Trip remarked before one of his on hand Pokémon was sent to where Trip's Pokémon are kept, so as to make room to put Metroid in the party right away.
"Maybe your Galvantula can help us with figuring out what's wrong at Chargestone cave?" Cilan suggested.
"It's worth a shot," Trip replied before the heroes all took off to investigate what's going on at Chargestone Cave.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket was in one of the cave rooms of Chargestone Cave, working with the charged up rocks. "These rocks will really help us out with our work to steal the twerps' Pokémon," Meowth said, "As well as fight off those wannabes in Team Scorn."
"Oh yeah, Meowth," James said, "Things are going to be smooth sailing from here on ou-"
"Hey, get out of here!" Jessie said, cutting James off and making him and Meowth turn to see Jessie arguing with a wild Joltik. Jessie called out her Woobat and said, "Woobat, use Gust on that annoying little Pokémon!" Doing as it was told, Woobat used Gust and struck Joltik, sending it flying away and hitting the ground. Right as Jessie was about to boast about defeating the Joltik, a pokéball flew in and hit the defeated Joltik, taking it inside before landing on the cave floor with a light clink. The pokéball shook for a bit before making a ping sound, indicating capture. "What?" Jessie said, "Who just-"
"Thanks for saving me the effort," a young female voice called out before stepping from the shadows, revealing the speaker to be Hidaka, Fourth Captain of Team Scorn's Longsword Sector. Hidaka was followed by the same dark-haired female Team Scorn grunt from before, as well as half a dozen other Team Scorn grunts. "I've been wanting to catch a Joltik, you see," Hidaka said, "And lo and behold, you weakened one for me to catch."
"Team Scorn!" James scowled as he, Jessie, and Meowth all braced for battle, "What are you doing here?"
Shrugging, Hidaka said, "That's none of your concern, although I see that you Team Rocket jokers are working with the electric rocks that we're after as well."
"We'd like to see you try to take our work from us!" Jessie said, prompting another Rocket versus Scorn fight.
...
Meanwhile, the heroes are approaching Chargestone Cave, with Trip having Metroid out to help guide them. Surprisingly, Metroid ended up striking up something of a solid friendship with Zancrow, as the two seemed to be amicably talking to one another in Pokémon-talk. "Aww, well isn't that sweet," Bianca said, "Dawn's Volcarona and Trip's Galvantula are friends."
"Hey Ash," Kenny began, "Dawn and I met that Misty girl in Kanto, and she freaked upon seeing bug Pokémon. You think she'd freak if she saw the Volcarona and Galvantula?"
Smirking a bit, Ash replied, "Yeah, she'd probably faint on sight at them." Turning to look at Iris, Ash said, "It's kind of like how you're afraid of ice Pokémon, huh Iris?"
"Although Misty being afraid of bug Pokémon is less justified that Iris being afraid of ice Pokémon," Kenny said, "Misty's choice of using water Pokémon means that bugs won't be all that big a deal, but Iris who wants to use dragon Pokémon has at least a passable reason to be scared of the cold."
As Iris hummed in an annoyed, bemused tone, Bianca said, "Dang it, the battery on my Xtransceiver died again." Bianca then called out her Cinccino so she could have it use Thunderbolt to try to recharge the battery on her Xtransceiver. As she did, however, a group of five Galvantulas came out to confront the heroes. "A horde of Galvantulas had shown up again!" Bianca cried out in alarm, "Go Emboar! Hit the closest wild Galvantula with Flamethrower!" Bianca's Emboar came out and, acting as directed, used Flamethrower on the closest wild Galvantula; Bianca had to specify that the WILD Galvantulas were the enemies in case her Emboar tried taking aim at Metroid by mistake.
Emboar struck the closest wild Galvantula with Flamethrower, hitting it hard and sending it flying back into a tree. The other four wild Galvantulas tried attacking as well, but an explosion coming from the direction of Chargestone Cave caught their attention. The four wild Galvantulas that weren't under attack scuttered off, but the one that was thrown against the tree by Emboar's attack had just barely picked itself back up, standing there and swaying from side to side. "...Imma wanna catch a Galvantula too!" Bianca said as she took out a spare pokéball, expanded it, and threw it at the wild Galvantula her Emboar attacked. The wild Galvantula went into the pokéball, which fell to the ground lightly and shook for a bit before making a ping sound, indicating capture.
"Not bad, Bianca," Dawn said, "Galvantula is a solid bug Pokémon that-"
"That bastard who killed my dad owns a Sceptile," Bianca said, "It's a grass type that's weak to bug. Galvantula here can help take it down." The other heroes were taken off guard by how vengeful Bianca seemed right now, using her capture of a Galvantula as an opportunity to strengthen herself in order to be able to eventually take down Team Scorn Admin Swordsman. It was at that moment that the heroes were met up by Professor Juniper and one of her assistants.
"Kids! Glad to see that you're all alright," Juniper said, "I was worried that you might have run into Team Scorn in Chargestone Cave!"
That revelation took the heroes all by surprise. "Team Scorn is in Chargestone Cave?!" Ash exclaimed.
Juniper nodded in the affirmative. "Yes. One of the assistants that I have at the camp base outside of Chargestone Cave discovered that this Team Rocket group that you Ash warned me about was up to some manner of scheme, and had deduced that Team Rocket's scheme is responsible for power going out at nearby locations such as the Pokémon Center that's nearby."
"Team Rocket's here too, huh?" Trip asked.
Once more, Juniper nodded in the affirmative. "Yes, but then Team Scorn showed up and got into a fight with Team Rocket. I think it's safe to say that whatever it was that Team Rocket was up to, Team Scorn showing up to do their own thing scuttled it." Gesturing for the heroes to follow her, Juniper said, "Come I'll take you all to the camp base I got outside of Chargestone Cave. We can discuss things more there." The heroes all nodded in agreement, thusly they all took off with Juniper to head on over to the camp base outside of Chargestone Cave.
"So what do you think it is that Team Rocket and Team Scorn are both up to?" Ash asked once everyone was at the camp.
"Well we've confirmed that both groups are after the electric rocks in Chargestone Cave," Juniper said, "We're not quite sure what exactly Team Rocket has planned, but one of my assistants who was able to spy on things confirmed that the Team Scorn group, led by one Captain Hidaka and her Captain's Assistant Saori, are aiming to take whatever electric rocks they can carry. Supposedly, the electric rocks can sell quite well on the black market."
Cilan scowled at the news. "Figures that criminals like Team Scorn are after a paycheck."
"And that Captain Hidaka girl," Dawn said, "Kenny, Trip, and I saw her back in Nacrene City. They ruined a Hisuian period exhibit that was going on display in the museum, wrecking a few of the displays, stealing a suit of armor, and even using the museum's fossil revival technology on the skeletal remains of an alpha Hisuian Typhlosion which Ideku ended up catching. Last that I heard, the people running the Hisuian period exhibit are attempting to sue Lenora over what happened."
"They're trying to sue Lenora?" Ash said, "How is what happened her fault?"
"Maybe it's because all of that happened on Lenora's watch," Dawn replied, "Look, the point is that we got to confront both Team Scorn AND Team Rocket over at Chargestone Cave."
Pounding a hand into his fist, Trip said, "It's time to knock some criminal heads." The rest of the heroes all gave cheers of agreement, and thusly they took off for Chargestone Cave, with Juniper leading the way."
...
When the heroes got to Chargestone Cave, they wandered inside as a group with Juniper leading the way. "By the way Bianca," Juniper said, "Remind me after we're done resolving things here to do the trade of Shelmet for Karrablast."
"Oh yeah," Dawn said, "I got it that Shelmet and Karrablast can only evolve if they're traded with each other, resulting in Accelgor and Escavalier."
Bianca nodded in the affirmative. "Yeah, and the only thing I'm wondering will be if Professor Juniper and I will trade Pokémon back after Shelmet and Karrablast evolve, or if we keep the Pokémon we get in trade."
"The next gym you're expecting to challenge is the one in Mistralton City, right?" Juniper asked, then after Bianca nodded in the affirmative she said, "Good, then we'll keep the Pokémon we get in trade without trading back. That'll leave you with an Escavalier, which will be a somewhat better option to use in the Mistralton City gym than an Accelgor." As the heroes went on, they heard some klinking sounds that seemed to be like the distressed cry of a Pokémon. Worried, the heroes ran on in to see what the problem was. To their surprise, the heroes found a wild Klinklang, swaying from side to side as its gears seemed unable to move properly.
It fired a random beam of electricity at Kenny, who ducked down so that the attack passed harmlessly overhead. "That was Charge Beam," Juniper said, then turned her attention to Klinglang. "It must be in distress because it can't rotate its gears. We need to-"
"There's a pen stuck in its gears," Bianca said, pointing to Klinglang. The heroes all zeroed in on Klinglang and, true to what Bianca said, there really was a pen stuck in Klinglang's gears. "...We need to calm it down first before we can try to remove the pen," Bianca said, "Maybe some music that can-"
Bianca was cut off when Dawn suddenly began singing a song that she knew. A song from the previous life of her, Kenny, and Trip. A song sung in a foreign language that no one else aside from Kenny and Trip recognized as a foreign language from their previous lives. A song sung in Swedish (a language that Dawn was fluent in back in her previous life), a song that Trip knew as a folk song that was called Vanner och Frander. Looking over, everyone saw that the wild distressed Klinglang was calming down, enough for Bianca to go in and remove the pen that was stuck in its gears. With the pen removed, Klinglang was happy again.
Seeing that Klinglang had been pacified, Dawn stopped singing. "...I didn't know that Champion Dawn knew a foreign language," Iris remarked in amazement as Dawn caught her breath a bit, "And her singing was beautiful. Music soothes the savage beast, huh?"
"Well we saved Klinglang from its troubles," Ash said, "Now we can-" Ash was cut off when the Klinglang, focusing on Bianca who pulled the pen from its gears, nudged her affectionately. Seeing an opportunity, Bianca asked Klinklang if it would like to come with her. Klinglang happily agreed, and soon Bianca used a pokéball to capture the now formerly wild Klinglang.
"Bianca seems to be on a roll with decent catches," Dawn remarked, "But that's be-"
"Hey!" Bianca said, looking at the pen she pulled from Klinglang. "This is a Team Scorn pen!"
Everyone gathered around and saw that the pen was indeed a custom company pen, with the company being Team Scorn. "It must be evidence that Team Scorn is nearby," Cilan said, "Maybe Klinglang can lead us to where it got the pen stuck in it?" There was merit to Cilan's idea, so Bianca called her Klinglang out and asked it if it could lead everyone to where it got the pen stuck in its gears. Klinglang agreed, and soon everyone went deeper into the cave, following along behind Klinglang to see if they might hopefully find Team Scorn.
After running through the caves for a bit, the heroes came to a stop when Bianca's Klinklang screeched to a sudden halt before making some angry noises while facing forward. "Hey Klinklang, what's wrong?" Bianca asked her Pokémon, "Did we get to where that Team Scorn pen got stuck in you?"
"Well obviously you would-be heroes did," a young female voice spoke up, making everyone look over and see that they were met up by a host of Team Scorn members. Dawn, Kenny, and Trip saw and recognized Fourth Captain Hidaka, as well as the dark haired grunt that accompanied her as her (supposed) Assistant. Off to the side, Team Rocket were all hog-tied and laying in a pile, having been defeated and taken prisoner. "And wouldn't you know it," Hidaka went on while gesturing to Juniper, "You would-be heroes brought my group's other target right to us. Thanks for the delivery."
"You guys are after Professor Juniper?!" Ash exclaimed.
"We figured that she'd make some great bait to make her daddy, the other Professor Juniper, act more amicably with us," replied Hidaka's Assistant.
Juniper scowled bitterly as she saw that Team Scorn was actually truly after her father. "...What do you villains want with my dad?"
"We got it that he's got a lot of research going that involves the legendary Pokémon Reshiram," Hidaka said, "As well as other potentially valuable research. We want all of what he's got so we can use it to lead to, among other things, getting Boss's Assistant Ayane set up to capture Reshiram."
"The last time you Team Scorn jokers tried getting Ayane set up to capture a legendary Pokémon," Trip began pointing out, "It blew up in your faces because Ayane only had basic pokéballs. She's going to need something a lot stronger than run of the mill red and white pokéballs if she wants to have a shot at capturing Reshiram."
"Which we WON'T let her get away with!" Iris yelled, "Not if I have anything to say about it!"
Shrugging, Hidaka replied, "Well it's a good thing that Admin Hero, the head of Team Scorn's Shield Sector which operates over in the Kalos region, was able to raid a local pokéball factory over there and get a Master Ball. One was given to Ayane to use to capture Reshiram."
The heroes all looked shocked by what Hidaka said; Ayane, who had fallen in with Team Scorn and is pretty much the boss's right hand woman, now has a Master Ball. If Team Scorn is able to get to Reshiram and are able to get Ayane into position to use the Master Ball, then Team Scorn will end up scoring some serious power. Hidaka had also mentioned Team Scorn operations in the Kalos region, mention a Shield Sector headed by an Admin Hero. Since Kalos came after Unova, the reborn heroes had a good idea on what to look out for.
"Now then, would-be heroes," Hidaka said, "Hand the good professor here over to us so we can coerce her daddy into giving us what all research he has that we'll be wanting out of him."
Stepping forward, Trip said, "...I don't think so. Alright Metroid, get in there!"
"You too, Zancrow!" Dawn called out as she sent her Volcarona into battle.
"Klinklang, you help out as well!" Bianca said, prompting her Klinklang into battle.
"Pikachu, I choose you!" Ash said, sending out his Pikachu.
"Go Pansage!" Cilan said as he sent out his Pansage.
"Okay, Zarbon!" Kenny said as he sent out his Machamp, "Let's make it cringe!"
"Go Excadrill!" Iris said as she sent out her Excadrill.
When everyone had Pokémon out, the battle began upon the Team Scorn grunts sending out their own Pokémon to confront what the heroes sent out. Although the members of Team Scorn had the heroes outnumbered by a noticeable bit, the heroes were far stronger, thanks in part to all of the excessive training they had done as they took turns challenging Clay's gym back in Driftveil City. In fact, Zancrow alone was easily handling both Hidaka and her Captain's Assistant, Saori, knocking out what all Pokémon those two sent out into battle.
Despite how many persons were involved, the mass battle soon came to a close with victory resting well with the heroes. Hidaka scowled as she recalled her defeated Flapple. "...It looks like we have to bail," Hidaka remarked, before she and the others used smoke grenades to mask their escape. When the smoke cleared, the heroes saw that all of Team Scorn was gone. At least they left the captured Team Rocket.
...
Since the situation was resolved and everything set back to as it should be, the heroes took off from Chargestone Cave, even freeing Team Rocket in the process. Dawn honestly didn't want to given that she's still sore over Team Rocket successfully stealing Pokémon over in Sinnoh despite Bertha trying to stop them, but she knew that there really wasn't much choice in the matter. At the very least, Team Rocket said that they'll help out against Team Scorn if they, the heroes, and Team Scorn ever get into another three-way melee. It was just like how, when Dawn and Kenny were still traveling through Sinnoh, Team Rocket sided with the heroes against Team Galactic when they got up to their schemes.
After everyone returned to the camp that Juniper had waiting outside of Chargestone Cave, she and Bianca got to trading Shelmet and Karrablast, evolving the both of them into Accelgor and Escavalier respectively. Escavalier was acting somewhat disrespectfully towards Bianca at first, but during a battle Bianca and Juniper had against Dawn and Trip who used Zancrow and Metroid, Bianca despite her and Juniper losing was able to get Escavalier to begin respecting her. Although it was actually due more to inspiration from Dawn.
"Part of the reason why you and Accelgor lost, Escavalier," Dawn began, "Is because you failed to respect Bianca's authority as your new trainer. Zancrow and Metroid have no problem taking orders from me and Trip. And wouldn't you know it, Zancrow and Metroid both won. The wonders that listening to your trainer can do to help you achieve victory."
With Escavalier now obeying Bianca from here on out, everyone seemed to be at ease, feeling that nothing could go wrong. ...At least, that's what all of them thought, up until one of Juniper's assistants pointed out that someone had just stumbled out of Chargestone Cave and was now heading right for the camp. Everyone braced for the worst, even another attack from Team Scorn. However, all tension had fled from the heroes when Juniper saw who it was and ran forward to greet the person, even helping them back to the camp. When Juniper and the mystery guest reached the camp, they all saw who it was.
"Everyone," Juniper said as she supported a tired looking older man, "This is my father, Professor Cedric Juniper."
END, CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND TWENTY-TWO
Author's notes;
This chapter sees the events of BW episodes 062 and 063 more or less combined into one, mostly due to Team Scorn interference. Trip catches a Galvantula, as does Bianca who also catches a Klinklang. Bianca is also able to get Escavalier to respect her, and the heroes soon received Cedric at the Chargestone Cave camp. However, not all is well; Team Scorn is gunning for the older Juniper professor, and they revealed not only some hints about Team Scorn's presence in the Kalos region, but also that said presence was able to raid a Master Ball from the pokéball factory in Kalos and send them to Unova, where Boss's Assistant Ayane got the goods and will use it when Reshiram comes about.
Things will be getting heated in the next chapter, given that Cedirc's got a target on his back.
