Episode 38: Hush Little Magby
Night has come as Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Pikachu, Eevee, and Angel have set up camp to rest for the night after dealing with Primeape's rampage. They were all sleeping soundly in their sleeping bags, but Riku woke up in the middle of the middle and summoned his Keyblade.
Hearing the swings of the Braveheart Keyblade, Sora woke up and followed the sounds. He decided to let Kairi sleep, so he continued on. He saw Riku swinging his Keyblade as the coming rocks. He looked like a natural doing so.
"Riku?" Sora asked. He turned to see Sora coming right towards him. "What are you doing up?"
"I should be asking the same thing, Sora," Riku said.
"You're practice your Keyblade strokes, aren't you?" Sora asked.
"Yeah, I am. Helps if I stay in shape, and focused," Riku said. He turned to Sora. "You can train too if you want."
"Um, in the middle of the night? The girls are fast asleep," Sora said.
"It's okay, Sora. Nobody can see us, and it's a good way to practice. I can bet there are moves you haven't pulled off," Riku said.
"Like what?" Sora asked.
"Like this," Riku said, holding his Keyblade. Riku slides as he dashed and broke a boulder into pieces. Sora gave off an impressed whistle.
"Cool," Sora said.
"You can pull it off, too," Riku said.
"Okay," Sora said. He tried to do it, but he slipped on the first try. "Oomph!" Riku laughed as he got up.
"It takes some practice. Did you learn anything else?" Riku asked.
"I threw my Keyblade, but it came back like a boomerang, only without turning around," Sora said.
"You mastered the Strike Raid move? Wow, that's a sweet move," Riku said.
"Thanks," Sora said.
"But, let's see how you handle in actual combat," Riku said. He swings his Keyblade, and Sora blocked it.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Sora asked.
"Helping you prepare. You want to be ready for anything, no matter what it is, don't you?" Riku asked.
"I guess you're right," Sora said, pushing Riku back. Their Keyblades clashed at each other.
"This is just sparring, so don't go crazy," Riku said.
"Not a problem," Sora said. "You make sure you do the same thing.
The two boys clashed their Keyblades at each other. Riku was making good work of his swordsmen ship. He could tell Sora is improving so much, but he knew he could use some more practice. Sora kept it up, but Riku gave Sora a kick in the gut, knocking Sora's Kingdom Key out of his hands. Riku then points his Keyblade at his sparring opponent.
"And I win again," Riku said.
"I thought was a sparring match," Sora said.
"Yeah, but you gotta remember this: your opponent isn't gonna fight fair," Riku said, dismissing his Keyblade. He helped Sora up on his feet.
"I can take you again," Sora said.
"Not tonight, Sora. We gotta get some sleep first," Riku said with a yawn.
"Come one, just one mo-" Sora fell backwards and starts snoring. Riku chuckled as he started to help him up.
"Okay, you can fall asleep when we get back to camp," Riku said.
Not too far, we're close to a fiery area, where Fire-type Pokémon occupy. Dozens Charmander and Charmeleon are seen sleeping together. Watching over them is a draconic, bipedal Pokémon. It is primarily orange with a cream underside from the chest to the tip of its tail. It has a long neck, small blue eyes, slightly raised nostrils, and two horn-like structures protruding from the back of its rectangular head. There are two fangs visible in the upper jaw when its mouth is closed. Two large wings with blue-green undersides sprout from its back, and a horn-like appendage juts out from the top of the third joint of each wing. A single wing-finger is visible through the center of each wing membrane. A single wing-finger is visible through the center of each wing membrane. Its arms are short and skinny compared to its robust belly, and each limb has three white claws. It has stocky legs with cream-colored soles on each of its plantigrade feet. The tip of its long, tapering tail burns with a sizable flame. This Pokémon is Charizard. Charizard keeps a constant vigilance over the Charmander and Charmeleon.
Elsewhere, the Magby from before is sleeping right beside the Magmar that dragged it back. Along with them is a large, vaguely humanoid, red-and-yellow-striped Pokémon with an egg-shaped body. It has pink lips on its dark face. It has yellow, tubular arms with a black "band" on both and three small claws on the black part of each "hand". Its legs are small in proportion to its body with pink thighs, red feet, and black shackles around the ankles. It has one large yellow flame on its head, as well as large red flames on its shoulders and tail. Additionally, it has four pink spikes on its back. It has an organ that resembles a magma chamber. This Pokémon is Magmortar
The Pokémon were unaware of the activity going on below. The sounds of jackhammers are heard in the underground. It was getting more and more violent.
On the very next morning, Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Pikachu, Eevee, and Angel continued on their way. Sora has exchanged Golbat, Mime Jr, and Fearow for Charmander, Machop, and Onix. Speaking of which, they rode on Onix's back, taking them further through the path.
"Gotta hand it to you, Sora. This idea rocks," Naminé said.
"We should count ourselves lucky that Onix is big enough to support us," Sora said. "Isn't that right, Onix?" The Rock Snake Pokémon roared with agreement. As they kept going, sweat ran down Sora's forehead. He wipes it off. "Whew, it's hot here."
"I think we're on Charmander's path," Naminé said.
"Charmander's path? What's that?" Riku asked.
"It's a pathway that is home to Charmander, and its evolved forms, Charmeleon and Charizard. Also other Fire-type Pokémon such as Magmar, Vulpix, and Growlithe," Naminé said.
"I'll say it's home for them alright. Look," Riku said, pointing forward. They turned to see two Magby, playing together. "Those are Magby."
"Oh, look cute they are," Kairi cooed. Sora took out his Pokédex and scanned them.
Magby, the Live Coal Pokémon
Type: Fire
Magby are Pokémon that lives in volcanic areas. With each breath, sparks spurt from its mouth and nose. When Magby is in good health, its flames gain a yellow tint.
"They look healthy to me," Sora said, putting his Pokédex away.
"You definitely called it, Naminé. If there are Magby here, then Magmar shouldn't be too far away from here," Riku said.
"Eevee!" Eevee said. His ears perked up. "Vee!"
They all turned to see two Magmar, taking on three Charmeleon.
"Thos would be Magmar," Riku said. Sora took out his Pokédex again and scanned them.
Magmar, the Spitfire Pokémon
The evolved form of Magby
Type: Fire
It has been said Magmar have been born from volcanic craters. In battle, Magmar blows out intensely hot flames from all over its body to intimidate its opponent. This Pokémon's fiery bursts create heat waves that ignite grass and trees in its surroundings.
"Why are they fighting those Charmeleon?" Kairi asked as Sora puts his Pokédex away.
"They might be fighting over territory," Riku said.
"Should we step in, and put a stop to this?" Naminé asked.
"No. They'll just set their attention on us if we butt in," Riku said.
Just as they were taking off, Onix shook as a rumble begins. Everyone riding on Onix's back were almost thrown off.
"Whoa, what was that?" Sora asked.
"Must be an earthquake," Kairi said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Vee," Eevee said.
"We should get a move on before something else happens," Naminé said.
"Agreed. Onix, full speed ahead!" Sora said. Onix kept on going. Just when they kept going, water erupts from right in front of them. "A geyser!" Onix backs away from the water. "Easy, easy. I know you don't like water. Stay calm and you'll be okay." He looked for another passageway. "There!" He points in another direction. Water erupts right in front of them again, spooking onix. "You gotta be kidding!"
"Pika!" Pikachu exclaimed.
"We gotta get out of here before we get boiled alive like pork sausages!" Sora said.
"No kidding!" Riku said.
"Onix, hurry!" Sora said. Onix starts crawling as fast as he could with four people on his back. Geysers erupts from left to right. They finally made it out as Onix pants in exhaustion. Sora, Kairi, Riku, Namine, Pikachu, Angel, and Eevee all got off, so Sora took out Onix's Pokéball. "You should take a rest for a while, Onix." He called Onix back inside.
"I don't understand it. There shouldn't have been a geyser in this region," Naminé said.
"Someone didn't tell that to the water," Sora said.
"I think someone must have found it by accident," Riku said.
"It wasn't supposed to be found!" A man's voice spoke. They turned to see a man, coming towards them. "The hot water here is unpredictable. But, that ain't what I wanna say! I wanna say is, what are ya doing here? This area is off limits because the Fire-type Pokémon here gets quite hostile here!"
"We didn't know this was an off-limits area, but we were heading for Saffron City, and we came here after being chased here by a Primeape," Kairi said.
"Saffron City, eh? I reckon one or two of ya are heading there for a Gym battle," the man said.
"I am," Sora said.
"How many Badges do ya have?" The man asked.
"Five," Sora answered.
"Wow, you have to be a top-notch Trainer to earn five Badges already. Anywho, the name's Moe. Hothead Moe."
"Nice to meet you, Moe. I'm Sora, and this is my Pikachu," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"I'm Kairi, and this little Eevee is Angel," Kairi said.
"Eevee, vee," Angel said.
"I'm Riku, and this Eevee is my partner," Riku said.
"Eevee," Eevee said.
"And I'm Naminé," Naminé finished. "I hope you don't mind me asking, but what are you doing here?"
"I actually live in the area, keeping an eye on things, but somehow, some fool tapped into the water here, causing geysers to gush out," Moe said. "You wouldn't know who is responsible for this, don't ya?"
"No, but if someone is here, then we should work together and drive them out," Riku said.
"I appreciate the offer, kids, but this I think I can handle it from here. Besides, I don't want you to get hurt on my account," Moe said.
"It might go smoother if we work together. If it's a problem for the Pokémon, then we can't let whoever it is get away with hurting them," Kairi said.
"She's right. If someone is doing this and ignoring the Pokémon, then it's just unforgivable," Naminé said.
"If ya feel that way, then I'm not gonna say no then. And you're right. It might help if there were more heads looking into it," Moe said. "Let's get right to it!"
"Right!" Everyone all said.
Right over to the Magby from before, it is on a walk with Magmar, and they search for food. Just then, geysers goes off, making them scatter. They ran as fast as they could. They didn't seem to realize that they have been separated.
Meanwhile underground, two people are wearing construction outfits and they're carrying some jackhammers. It turns out to be non-other than Team Rocket.
"Prepare for trouble, we're in pursuit of a hot spring!" Jessie said.
"Make it double, and we'll do just the thing!" James said.
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all peoples within our nation!"
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Jessie!"
"James!"
"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now, or prepare to fight!"
"Meowth! That's right!"
"Mime, Mime, Mime!"
"Gotta hand it to, James, this hot spring idea is the hottest," James said.
"Well, the idea just came to my head," James said.
"After we get the place up and running, we'll be having more dough than a bakery!" Meowth said, laughing.
"Not only will we draw in a crowd, but we'll have some Pokémon coming in!" James said.
"And we will be stealing them," Jessie said. Meowth conks them both.
"No, you dolts! That's how we'll lose business that way!" Meowth said.
"Meowth, in case you haven't noticed, ever since Celadon City, we haven't made contact with the boss, and he's going to know something is up when he asks why we don't have any Pokémon to steal for him," James said.
"James has a point, Meowth. We're already in hot water as it is," Jessie said.
"No pun intended," James said.
"Fair point, but we should cool off on the stealing and focus on making some profits. We do need some money to get off the ground," Meowth said.
"We could just rob a bank," Jessie said.
"Jess, you scratched that idea because you said it's going to draw too much attention, and not the kind the movie stars make," James said.
"Oh, yeah," Jessie said.
"Let's get back to work! We still have some hot water to make us some hot money!" Meowth said.
"Yeah!" Jessie and James said, turning on their jackhammers.
Back on the surface, Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Pikachu, Angel, and Eevee joined Hothead Moe in search for the cause of the disturbance.
"Still nothing," Moe said.
"Just when exactly did this happen?" Sora asked.
"To be honest, I don't know. I first noticed this morning, and I didn't know what was what," Moe said. "And if I did, I would have already solved."
"Course that would have been too easy," Riku said.
"Eevee," Eevee said.
Just then, Magby ran right into Sora. He looked down and saw the Live Coal Pokémon right beside him.
"A Magby," Sora said. He bent down as Magby looked up. Magby looked around for Magmar and didn't see it. "Hey, what's the matter? You okay?"
"Magby, Magby, Magby, Magby!" Magby said.
"He must be worried about something," Kairi said.
"He?" Moe asked.
"Kairi has a way of telling if a Pokémon is a boy or girl," Sora explained.
"Maybe it has to be what's going on," Naminé guessed.
"Yeah, that could be it," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Hey, how about you stick around with us for a while? You'd be safer with us," Sora said. Magby looked up to Sora and smiled at him. Magby took Sora by the hand and they went further in.
Meanwhile, Magmar made it far enough, but it looked around for Magby. Magmar started to search for Magby. Magmar then slipped and fell right underground. Magmar heard the sounds of jackhammers going off, and it followed the sounds. Magmar saw Team Rocket with the jackhammers.
"Some spots over here!" James said.
"And some spots over there!" Jessie said.
"Spots everywhere!" Meowth said.
Magmar fired a Flamethrower at Team Rocket, making them scream.
"Where did that Magmar come from?" James asked.
"Who cares? Get the ice orbs ready!" Jessie said.
"Right!" James said, taking out tiny marbles of ice and threw them at the Spit Fire Pokémon, freezing it. "Wow, they really work just like that man said they would."
Team Rocket bought some from a mysterious man, and he told them that the orbs of ice can freeze just about anything that comes in contact with.
"Now to work without any interruptions," Meowth said.
Outside, jackhammers are heard from underneath. Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Pikachu, Angel, Eevee, Magby, and Hothead Moe heard the sounds.
"What in the world is that?" Sora asked.
"Whatever it is, that's gotta be the source of the problems going on around here. And whoever it is, they're going to be in a world of hurt!" Moe said.
Moe ran right in as Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, and the Pokémon followed him inside. They knew they were getting close judging by how loud it was getting. They came across the source of the problem.
"It's Team Rocket. I should have guessed," Sora said.
"You know those guys?" Moe asked.
"Unfortunately, yes," Sora, Kairi, Riku, and Naminé said in unison.
"They're trying to steal my Pikachu whenever we come across each other," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu deadpanned.
"They're in for it now!" Moe said, running towards them. He charged right towards them. "Hey!" Team Rocket turned to see him. "Stop what you are doing!"
"Who's that guy?" Meowth asked.
"A troublesome do-gooder," Jessie said, taking out a Pokéball. "Arbok! Go!" Her Pokéball opened and Arbok came right out.
"Cha-bok!" Arbok hissed.
"Arbok! Use Wrap!" Jessie ordered. Arbok wrapped around Moe. He grits his teeth as the Cobra Pokémon puts the squeeze on him. "Maybe that'll teach him to butt in our affairs."
"Some people are just pushy," James said.
"It takes pushy people to know pushy people!" Sora called out. They turned to see the four kids and the four Pokémon to coming towards them.
"The twerps again!" Meowth exclaimed.
"I should have realized this has your stink all over it; just like a Grimer!" Sora said.
"You again!" Jessie growled.
"You guys are the reason for the hot water shooting up at us!" Sora said.
"Stealing Pokémon isn't enough, but you have to boil us alive!" Kairi said.
"What's wrong with you?" Naminé asked.
"We were just trying to make some hot springs! We found it right here in these caverns and make some big money!" James said.
"You idiots!" Moe yelled. He struggled to get loose. "You're mining in an unbalanced area! That is why it's off-limits!"
Team Rocket weren't buying it one bit.
"You're just saying that just so you could muscle in!" Jessie said.
"Haven't you noticed how unstable it was coming out?" Moe asked.
"I wasn't going to say anything, but I did notice it," James said.
"James, you on our side or not?!" Jessie roared.
"Right," James said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Weepinbell! Go!" His Weepinbell emerged from inside. "Use Vine Whip!" Weepinbell extends its vines.
"Eevee! Use Shadow Ball!" Riku ordered. Eevee fired Shadow Ball and it struck the Fly Catcher Pokémon hard. "Use Quick Attack!" Eevee ran towards Weepinbell, landing a hit. James growled in anger.
"Weepinbell! Use Razor Leaf!" James ordered. Weepinbell fired Razor Leaf right at the group.
"Use Swift!" Riku ordered. Eevee fired Swift, and the stars cuts through the leaves. He turned to Sora. "Okay, Sora! Your turn!"
"Pikachu! Use Electro Ball!" Sora ordered. Pikachu forms a ball of electricity and it heads towards Team Rocket. They go flying. "Pikachu! Use Iron Tail on Arbok!" Pikachu heads towards Arbok and lands a hit on the Cobra Pokémon, letting go of Moe.
Over to Magmar, it defrosted and huffed in anger. Magmar starts running towards the sound of battling.
"Arbok! Use Poison Fang!" Jessie ordered. Arbok came at them with Poison Fang. Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it.
"Machop! Go!" Sora called out. Machop came right out.
"Machop!" Machop said.
"Machop! Use Karate Chop!" Sora ordered. Machop gave Arbok a chop, sending him back. Arbok got back up.
"Use Wrap!" Jessie ordered. Arbok wrapped around Machop, and squeezed. Magby fired Ember right at Arbok. Arbok lossened his grip. "Arbok! Use Poison Fang on that Magby!" Arbok came right at Magby with Poison Fang, but Magmar came and gave Arbok a Fire Punch, sending Arbok flying, and hits the wall. Jessie turned to James. "James, you said those ice orbs would freeze anything!"
"That man said did say they can freeze anything, but I don't think he said for how long!" James said.
Arbok got back up and darts towards Magmar, but it grabbed the Cobra Pokémon and gave him a toss at Team Rocket. Magby fired Ember as Magmar releases a powerful stream of red-yellow fire from its mouth at the opponent. As the flame travels at the opponent, the front of the flame forms into a 大-shaped blast. The combined attacks struck Team Rocket flying, hitting the ceiling.
"Blew it again!" Jessie said.
"That burns me up," James said.
"You think you're burned up, those two Pokémon did that for us," Meowth said.
"Team Rocket is blasting off again!" Team Rocket shouted as they go flying. A star twinkles in the distance.
"That takes care of those morons," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu agreed.
"Now to make certain the place stays intact," Moe said, taking out a Pokéball and he threw it. The Pokéball opened and lets out a long, serpentine Pokémon with a silvery-gray body made up of rock-like sections, which can possess chips and scrapes from fights and tunneling. Three of those sections have long rock spikes coming out of them on either side. It has a massive head mainly made up of its large, wide jaw with sets of large square teeth inside. Along its bottom jaw are ridges: there are two pairs of ridges on its jaw. Its eye sockets are slightly deep-set, and the eyes themselves are red. Its head has two long ridges going from the eyes up to the top of its head. The tip of its tail is conical with a blunt tip. "Steelix! Use Iron Tail!" Steelix swung its tail, making the rocks slide down, making it stable once again.
After everything was set right, they stood outside the cavern.
"Thank you for your help, kids. Everything would still be out of whack if you stayed out of it," Moe said.
"We're just glad we could help out," Sora said.
"Pika," Pikachu said.
"And the Pokémon won't worry about geysers going off at random," Sora said.
"And that's thanks to Magby and Magmar's help," Kairi said. "Right, Angel?"
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Anyway," Sora said, looking at Magby. "Take care of yourself." They were taking off, but Magby was watching Sora leave. He looked up to Magmar and it saw how it wants to go with him. Magby ran towards Sora.
"Magby!" Magby shouted. They all turned around and saw Magby coming towards them.
"Magby? What are you doing?" Sora asked.
"Magby, Magby, Magby!" Magby said.
"I think this little guy wants to come with you," Moe said.
"Is that right?" Sora asked. Magby nodded. He understood and he took out a Pokéball and held it. "Okay, you can come along. You did help out against Team Rocket, and that gives you a spot on the team." Sora threw the Pokéball and Magby jumped up. The Live Coal Pokémon pressed the button on the Pokéball and flows inside. The Pokéball lands on the ground as the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Sora's Pokémon Box goes off asking him if he wants to keep Magby with him. He chose to send Gastly to Professor Oak's lab to keep Magby in the team. He looked over to Magmar. "I promise to take good care of Magby."
With that said, they took off to continue their way towards Saffron City. What other adventures comes along? That's to come soon.
